my wife asked me why I was all YESSSSSS! this morning... I told her -CGQ BABY! I'll tune back in after the chores and such, video games (and this comment hahaa), lunch, then watch this, and maybe even a nap as I have the weekend off, (as most folks I work most weekends) YEP, weekends off always remind me of like, 1986-91 or so. Being a kid, having a sleepover, pizza, mowing the lawn and other chores to hopefully convince the parents to bring us to Go-Video to rent some video games! And playing outside of course...so.... Seeing as you uploaded a new video that brings me back to those days, today just keeps getting better! thanks man!
    Cheers all

Rich Hughes..... that's the thing, what drugs did any kid need in graded school, these trips down memory lane bring about that excitement we used to feel after a week at school, here comes the weekend full of playing outside, ride your bikes, play video games, sleepovers, building forts, crab apple fights, baseball cards...whatever, the concept of this channel brings me back to those fun times... Nostalgic memory lane. One should embrace that, at least I hope we all can anyway... Thanks for the reply dude

Thanks again for doing another one of these videos. I love this stuff, seeing it pop up on my recently uploaded list makes me very happy. I had most of these magazines you've done so far when I was young, seeing them again I can practically feel the pages and remember the way they smelled as I opened them up new. Like lots of people into games back then I wore them out from reading the things over and over. Keep it up, great content. Edit: holy crap the Dragon Warrior manual! Wow the memories! I got that game free too of course, and I remember that summer playing it every single day for weeks. I was addicted to it. It wasn't my first rpg, I had played some stuff like King's Quest and Ultima on the PC, but it was my first jrpg and I loved it. I would just mindlessly grind for hours. The patience I had back then! I was so proud of myself for beating it. I wonder whatever happened to my copy of that game...

    Chris,
When you started talking about some of the things Mega Man 2 introduced to the series and then said something along the lines of “but something I didn’t know was...”, for some reason I thought for SURE you were about to mention the fact that the rather famous Mega Man 2 intro theme is the same theme Capcom used as the ending credits theme for the first Mega Man game - thus, in a sense, connecting the end of the story of Mega Man 1 to the beginning of the next story in the series - where Mega Man 2 picks back up. Personally, I have always wondered why they didn’t continue doing that on down the line, at least with the “classic series” Mega Man games - to me, it seemed like it would have been such a cool way to low-key ‘link the chain’ of successive Mega Man titles on the NES, and, in my opinion, a neat little tradition could have been started had the idea played out beyond merely Mega Man 1 and 2. :)
Love the channel, keep up the great work, and I think it’s excellent that you picked up a sponsor for the show! After all of your hard work, you deserve it! Can’t wait for the next “Let’s Read”!
    - Derek

Awesome episode Chris! Just got done waching it all and it was super enjoyable. Faxanadu is a minor classic as far as I'm concerned. It got a decent bit of press back in the day. I had it growing up and am very attached to it (still have the beautifullt illustrated manual, with passwords writen in by my 8 year old self). The ambiance is stunning, the game lenght is just right for me, not too long, it's just a joy to play. I'll always be a very sentimental game for me, one that give me warm feelings of nostalgia.

I was already a Nintendo Power subscriber, but added another year just to get Dragon Warrior for free. Otherwise, I would not have purchased the game. I was new to RPGs, so I’m glad they also included plenty of reference material and guides with Dragon Warrior, to essentially tell you exactly how to beat the game. I still have all this stuff now. Thank you for this video, and bringing back memories!

Very cool to see another original Dragon Warrior fan from back in the day. It was my very first RPG and is what got me absolutely HOOKED on the genre to this day. Can't believe that you didn't like the original TMNT tho, I freaking LOVED that game and still do! I think many ppl don't like it solely because of it's difficulty. That jump control tip is actually not useless at all, it is in fact probably one of the best pieces of advice you can get for that game, as it is absolutely essential to just lightly tap the jump button any time you are trying to cross tough platforms like in the sewers. Simply tapping the button to do short jumps makes those areas rather easy when most ppl seem to struggle with them. I think ppl that really struggle with that game tend to be ppl that aren't very good at video games in general, as it really isn't THAT hard once you get the hang of it.

I remember rushing to the store to buy it with newspaper route money only to find out it wasn't out yet, so being a kid who needed to go home with something I bought Rad Racer instead. Great game but no Mega Man 2. I did end up getting Mega Man 2 on the day of release a couple weeks later and it was as amazing as the magazine made me think it would be!

What was everyone's first RPG? Mine was Final Fantasy for the NES in 1991. But I wasn't addicted until I tried FF2 (FFIV) on the SNES a year later. By the time Chrono Trigger was around, I was addicted. And I never played a Dragon Quest (Warrior) game until DQ8, which I bought solely for the FFXII demo. And wow, talk about a game that was WAY better than the demo it came with. Love that game.

Mega Man 6 is my favorite, super refined designs, nicer graphics, more secrets, better sound design for the soundtrack and the melodies are more sublime instead of pumping and in your face throughout the whole game.

Yeah, Mega Man 6 is great. I found my copy in the clearance bin at Kay-Bee for $5. Couldn't have been *that* long after it came out. Maybe late 94?

I like MM6 too. I'm not fond of the fourth and fifth games, but six has a kind of charm to it that works for me.
