  • Come along as Matt explores a brand new lake! He's got one day to find fish and put together a pattern. Learn how to break down your own lake as he explains his mindset about best locations, bait selection, how different species of bass position, and more!
Showing up to a new lake is always intimidating. Doing it without mapping is even scarier! But Matt was determined to learn this lake and put together a pattern to catch quality bass. Watch the highs and lows as he struggles, breaks off fish, then turns the corner and begins dialing in a pattern for bigger bass. Its a fun day on a new fishery that we'll be sure to return to in the future!
Below you'll find links to the exact baits and gear Matt was using in the video. We've included his exact colors, sizes, etc... so you can see exactly what he was using. We've also included some of the rods and reels he used to catch these fish throughout the day. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

There's a great lesson to be learned here, grind it out. Instead of going home or going somewhere else take what you know and try different things until you figure out what works.

Those days I have to grind it out on my home lake are some of the best days you have!!!!!! Figuring out new things and patterns, spots, all you learn by not catching. Then the puzzle pieces click together and you go home smiling and wiser!!!!! That's what keeps me going back is the unknown if I'll catch one or not.

100%. Last time I was on a lake for the first time, fished from 6AM to 3PM with one fish that got off then all of a sudden found the right bite. So satisfying.

Your reactions to the fish on this new lake are exactly what it's like fishing our local lakes. 😆
I see them. I give them what the want. They laugh at me. 😂😂😂♥️♥️♥️🎣🎣🎣
I think bass are smarter than we give them credit for and on pressured smaller fisheries they learn fast.
I mean they fall for stuff and I do thankfully catch em but it's not like some of the lakes and ponds I see on UA-cam where bass hit everything.
The challenge is pretty exhilarating and when you DO slam a hog it's really rewarding!!!
Thanks for the informative and enjoyable content!

Love seeing these ones, really enjoy seeing how you guys approach new lakes and adapt when things don't work from the beginning. Ended up getting a 4lber on a frog yesterday!! Been having a ton of success this year and I gotta say most of it is because of the tips you guys have continued to give year after year. Appreciate everything the Tactical Bassin family has given us and all that is still to come, Thanks so much!!!

I usually catch largemouth bass in my middle to large sized pond but since the water is over 83 now in Southern Florida the bite has stopped almost completely. I have tried top water, crank baits, swim jigs, chatter baits, square bills, senkos and even curly tail Yamamoto grubs on jig heads and the bite has been off for well over a week. Tried morning, day and night and I am surprised that no fish are biting. On a fish finder, I see the fish are a bit deeper in 15-25 feet depths (the pond averages 15-25 feet within feet of the shore line and has two deep holes of 40-45 feet and 50-53 feet. Some fish are in weeds along the edges as I see them move when I get close but they aren’t hitting poppers or frogs. Any recommendations?

Matt, do the shad spawn all night during the full moon on a clear night. I had a spawn Saturday morning and threw everything and never got bit nor did I see any bass in them, I know there are fish in this creek also. I just think they fed all night and were do e feeding, is that logical?????

I think so, we have smelt up here in nys, my dad and I went out on one of the warmest days yet, conditions were perfect for a good day, partly cloudy, 5-10mph wind with the start of some high pressure weather but it was the morning after a full moon and we knew the smelt were running the night before. The fish just acted tired and full, i literally got the sense that they were up working/feeding all night. I had something move my line about 3ft with a ned tied on and i think it was a bass just moving it out of his bubble just like we’ve seen on underwater footage. We threw every technique we could and almost every jerk bait in the boat. Haven’t been double skunked like that in forever

I was out last evening, 5/16, and found some shad schooling in a cove. This place gets overlooked because in the summer it's dead water, but it supports lots of life in the spring. I was able to get a few decent fish using a white/clear glitter fluke that was of similar size. The color contrast seemed to help, not outrageous but noticeable. Also, as I've learned on this channel, I tried to have it a bit lower in the water column doing its fluke thing. It was at the start of that night feeding window.

@@mrkmkr99 down lower is where the action is right now, probably why ive been doing better with a fluke than a jerk bait, i don’t have to worry about getting snagged

It’s because that warmer water has made the shad spawn start. Shad spawn is in low light conditions, so early morning, and the bass love it.

At least 10 rods on the deck, a boat full of tackle, but next time you are going to come back a "little more prepared"??? :)
