- out of curiosity, i compared a 12 megapixel camera to a 61 megapixel camera to a 33 megapixel camera! A7S III vs A7R V vs A7IV . I was shocked by the results! really want to know what you guys think about this! do we really need a 61 megapixel camera or a7siii's 12megapixel is good enough?!

So many people have lost their minds over high MP cameras unless you're into deep cropping. A HD computer monitor only shows 2MP, 4K shows 8MP and Facebook/Instagram displays 2MP photos. Considering PPI and DPI, a comparison of MP is better on a printed photo from a normal viewing distance relative to the size of the photo.
youre 100% right, pal.
I wonder if anyone has seen a giant 1mp print 😂 They'd probably lose their mind. These marketing departments are something else.
A Nikon D2Hs and all of its 4.1mpx 😅 is still completely usable. You simply need to be an expert at composition.
I swear if I were running a photography class, I'd make all the students shoot on a D2Hs 😅 The only cropping you get is to straighten the image.
I think the US and Global market for 4K monitors sold is only around 2% as of 2023 🤣 The only folks buying 4K and 8K monitors are either in the business or hobbyist/gamers. Normal people look at 0.8mpx images all day long.
well the thing is, i love shooting EVERYTHING from farther away so i can crop perfectly. I never do portraits where the subject is going to be always centered. Mainly for video as well too. With everything being vertical, 61mp you can shoot horizontal and still have plenty info to crop in! Cropping is the best thing imo in photography and videography and not alot of people utilize it well with larger mps
I printed crazy small picture less than 1 mp ( far far less) and they print really good at 4x6. I was astonished. So my Sony a7c at 24mp is the best ratio low light performance, sensor size, pixel count. A lot of high end canera stay under 24mp. I can get a nice background photo for 32 inch 4k screen monitor, i can still crop pictures a bit, to fix incorrect framing. Normally the initial framing should already be well set but there is room to crop. And like i said for 4x6 it is always good. For bigger 5 x7 and 8,5 x 11 i would use 12/24mp pictures above that you need 24mp for best result.
Great videos. been very helpful while thinking of buying things i dont need
Yes! I am a beginner photographer/videographer. And this video helps me focus on my skills rather than a lot of big budget gear at the moment. Thank you, Love from Nepal 🇳🇵❤️
Mad Respect to Nepal!
and youre 100% right!
That is reassuring that I cant go wrong between those.
Did you shoot that video on the a7siii?
Constructive criticism: the audio couldve been better synced here.
Just output from raw to the MP you want. In Adobe Camera Raw for example you can set your output resolution. I have compared R6 II files output from ACR to 45 MP to the R5 and it's very hard to tell the difference, even viewed at 100% on a 5K monitor. If you use the "Enhance" feature first, in my case the R6 files actually looked more detailed than the R5. Thus I save $2000 by getting the R6 II which I could spend on lenses AND I save file space and only uprez when I need to (to crop or print very large).
how do use "Enhance"?
i am subscribing your channel because of genuine review and i was planning to buy a7r4 but after watching your review i am happy with my a7s 3 with 120 fps shooting, now a days nobody needs more pixels people are happy with iphone cameras. thanks alot ermia take care.
thanks a lot for watching, my friend.
im 100% agree with you, a7siii's photos are very good and 12mp is enough for 99% of the time
Can you do the same test with better glass? The 50mm 1.8 doesn't have the ability to really take advantage of the resolution of the R series cameras.
for the second test in the video ( outdoor shots ) i used my SIGMA 85MM F1.4 DG DN, thats pretty sharp imo
3:35 you can see that even with the 50mm f/1.8 you take advantage of the R serie camera with better sharpness, it even looks like you need a better lens for 12MP than 60...😉
What about when you shoot a wide composition with the model taking up only about 10-20% of the frame?
Been doing constant research on a new camera, and this video helped tremendously. You sold me on the A7S III
Its a great camera!
Thanks for watching
nice review man appreciate it
Thanks for watching bro
Is there any reason to get 61mp?
Those high contrast shots look almost identical but why does the A7RV look 10x better than the other 2 in that outside shot with the 85mm
honestly i didnt noticed a very big diffrence between a7IV and A7RV in the outdoor shots
Its really good that you focus on cameras that regular people can afford , i myself see that as a very useful one ,thank u babe💋👏👏👏
🖤🖤🖤
I can tell you as someone who's first commercial camera was a canon 30d 12 megapixel camera that it still takes perfectly good photos as long as you don't need to crop. I(f you shoot wildlife and have to crop 80% of your pictures then megapixels count.
As most lenses are resolving 20+mp the 12mp may appear sharper, does it? Obviously the 61mp sensor will have more detail, but does it loose the edge on sharpness as it may pick up on softness of an inferior lens. I am curious because I recent used some images from a 4mp sensor which seemed almost sharper than than a 24mp, Topaz made them almost jump out at you when I wanted a little more detail.
I've experiened this, although I would not consider the lens inferior, but more like a result of the improved quality of the camera.
Sony A77 combined with Sony 2.8 24-70 ZA Zeis lens is a very good to excellent combination. However using the same Zeis lens with a Sony A7RIV (using LA-EA3 adapter) I noticed softness / lack of sharpness. This became more clear when I switched to FE 24-105 F4 G lens, which showed razor sharp results compared to the Sony 2.8 24-70 ZA, which remains performing very well on my A77.

I did pick the 61 mp sensor. I noticed the difference but it was in her face
its a lot sharper on the face
Agree; can’t believe that he didn’t notice that
where did you get those cool signs in the background the chinese letter one etc
i made them myself, bud!
@@ermiaramez976howwwww
You can see the difference looking at the eye. The Photo A was obviously the lowest one. Photo B and C got me good, but I think above 33 MP is the kind of thing that will only notice if you use for a larger area, and it doesn't need to be an outdoor. It can be a family album, a frame on the wall. And you will need it if you have to crop, so... Yes, it does make difference. Really.
I agree with you 100%
its the lens that matter right??
Good video but you are comparing a portrait images!
Go out, shoot some landscape, crop and zoom in and you will know the difference
But I think one benefit of 61mp is that even in apsc mode you still have 26mp. You can even just set at med raw and both your full frame and apsc mode will have same 26mp.
The low megapixel camera has less noise but it's not as sharp.Image quality will always be better with a high megapixel camera. More pixels gather more light. It's a complicated subject. Tony Northup has made several very good videos on this subject. Movies shot on video are shoot at very high ISO. Noise can be cleaned up, sharpness can't be changed.
its 100% true. but even low megapixel ( 12mp for example ) doesnt look bad at all in case of sharpness if youre not zooming too much
@@ermiaramez976 We obsess about megapixels only to view on Instagram or FB.
Perfect👍🏻
I'm confused between. Sony a7r ii and a7iii. I want the best photo quality with cheap price. Can you help me guys
the autofocus of a7iii is a lot better than a7r ii, it has the lower megapixel but the 24 megapixel on a7iii is pretty good. i think you should consider a7iii or a7r iii for that purpose.
@@ermiaramez976 thank you so much ❤️
a 4k monitor is just 8 megapixels and only if you use every single pixel in the screen. high resolution is just for cropping
61 is A. No wait is C or B 😅 Great content 🔥🔥🔥
thanks for watching, man
When you put them side by side at 100% crop, I am shocked the difference is small.
A7siii sensor is really good. Isn’t this why the stills also look good? I don’t know, I am asking here. So, isn’t it about the sensor quality also and not just MP count?
youre 100% right
Thank you for this review
at this moment i'am standing to buy a new camera !!! i wanted to buy a SONY A7SIII But now after seeing this video i don't know which one to buy (price does not matter)
After 1 year of posting this video can you just decide which one to buy for the while time ? --------------SONY A7SIII ------------- OR ------------SONY A7RV --------------
Please Answer
Thank you
If you mainly shoot Videos, A7S III has a lot better dynamic range, rolling shutter and low light performance, but if you mainly shoot photos, A7R V is designed for photography at first and video is second. so it has a lot more photography features and also higher megapixel
crazy i actually guessed the photos correctly :o
very helpful video! shocked by the results!
thanks for watching, bro!🙏

If you are doing big enlargements the megapixels matter. If you are only viewing on your computer screen you are right, you will not see much of a difference. My laptop screen is about 2 megapixels in resolution. Even high resolution monitors can never resolve a 24 megapixel camera, let alone a 61 megapixel. You simply will not see a difference until you print a large image.
I have the Sony A7RV and I have done enlargements up to A1. I could go A0 or larger, no issues. The images on my monitor look rather ordinary, but print super large prints and that’s when the megapixels are a bonus. I purchased a 4x5 large format film camera and seriously after having big enlargements done I truly believe the A7RV is sharper and able to render better images. I guess that is due to better lens technology in addition to the high megapixel count.
Still use my Nik D90 and the quality is fantastic...
thats exactly my point!
D90 is 12megapixel too, and its super good even after all these years!
A7R5 or FX3 or A7C II ?? Which is super good option??
A7cii
The best hybrid is a7cII.
It is a bit expensive though. I would have prefered to see it at the price of the original a7c. You have an improved evf ( i have a7c, it is clearly visible ), Active stabilization handheld (again really visible), 10 bits 4:2:2 (slog can be fully used now), a really improved grip (compared to a7c but still not yet perfect), touch menu, and they kept the evf on the left and the small size/weight (perfect on the gimbal or in the bag or pocket like my a7c or the flash on camera) , works well with flash (60rm2). They can improve it like the flash sync limited to 160 instead of 240/400. The shutter speed in efcs mode is limited 1/4000 Instead of 1/8000) and the 4k60 is with a 1.5x crop. Also it is a micro hdmi (i don’t use it so it is not an issue for me and one card only). The a7cII is not yet perfect. The a7cIII or should be perfect. I bet at this time , there will be a new processor to reduce overheating even more, 4k60 no crop, and a new shutter mechanism 1/8000. 1/240 flash sync, 8 stops stabilization, even more magnified evf, 4D screen and more detailed external screen, deeper grip like fx3-A6700. Maybe 1 more customizable button. I don’t think they can put the joystick on such small body.
If they can put faster readout sensor and 4k60 4k120, with a new processor, it would be top notch.
@@CC-gt3ro Usually I found my a7C11 heat up a lot here in Pakistan where temperature is 40 C during the month of April to mid Sep. So I replaced it with a7R5, I am very happy. It is beast and temperature remains very balanced in hot environment. Second reason a7c ii was so bad in battery management.
I have a feeling that the 12 megapixel photo was over-sharpened in post-processing.
I'm still with A7s for my astrophotography and II or III is not even better in this matter... but declass all other cameras on the market anyway.
UA-camrs, Influencers, Freelancers and camera enthusiasts: You dont need more MP, 12mp is enough, you can't tell the difference?
Actual working Professional photographers: Uhh No.
And by professionals i mean the people actually working in Magazines from beauty to cars to animals, sports etc.. Will never suggest 12mp unless your just doing it for Instagram Facebook YT. There is an industry standard for certain MP within companies. The exception is your already famous and they trust your process then you can use whatever you want. but anyone not at that level i strongly recommend you not going lower then 24MP.
The people saying you cant tell unless you zoom into 300% are the problem. You dont know the reason why people need this and you believe its for pixel peepers or those who like to crop in? Lol.
This is advice for Photos only not Video.
That's why the A7iii is such a great camera at 24mp. No need to upgrade to the A7iv. A7siii image does not look good, but it's for videos. The 61mp allows you to crop and the image is kinda better but the A7RV is the perfect hybrid and its more than it's mp. If you can't afford A7rv get the a7iii.
You are right on most parts, but after this review, the a7siii image doesn't look low quality without a heavy crop, its very campable even in 12megapixel!
but 24 on a7iii and 33 on a7iv is pretty awesome
I have to agree with you there, I have A7siii and A7IV and only really post stuff to the web and if I don’t crop heavily I really can’t tell the difference. For my needs the 12MP is more than enough.
@@jamessonfield thats right, I didn't notice they were so close until I tested them side by side.
In fact, 12 MegaPixels seem better when you don't Zoom .... XD But I'am Glad to have got 45 mega Pixels for my Dual Fisheyes Lens... But, VR it's a complete different story and like John Snow, you probably don't know nothing about ^^
Get a Nikon D2hs, and Canon EOS 5D 😅 now lets see the real test, b/c they're going to look better than all 3 of those bodies, especially on YT 🤣
“A7IV OR A7RIV” which camera are you talking bout lol
both lol
A7S is low light king
