listened to the new album today. was blown away. trans punk rock is what we have all been waiting for without knowing it. the music sent shivers down my spine. a hint of old berlin cabaret. a hint of the old hollywood. and down and dirty rock'n'roll and awesome punk rock. and they don't get it even a tiny bit wrong, its hitting all the right nerves and gives 101% . i'm ravin about it. as you can tell. wow wow wow
I seen a lot of hate from now ex fans when it was announced the process was going to take place. If you are true punk at heart you would have welcomed this. Be who the fuck you want to be and fuck the rest.
If you want to be one, if that's what you are go ahead but don't be surprised when you realize the only people who care about you are others like you who no one likes.
In writing a song, you write what you know about. Laura writes about something that is one of the most difficult things in the world - changing ones gender to match what ones gender identity that has been written / wired in one's head. Such a transition has been proceeded by years of guilt, shame and fear of the highest order. Transition is survival for many transgender people, if the transition is not done suicide often follows. It is that difficult to live being inauthentic to oneself at such a fundamental level. In order to do a transition one must go from fear to having a backbone made of steel and an ability to say, now I live for myself, now I rip out the bars of this personal prison that are the expectations of others. Laura Jane Grace has taken an unbelievable step, where she has put it in front of the fans and the whole world. That is turning fear into courage and no one can say that is stupid or meaningless. Congratulations Against Me! and Laura Jane for taking this head on and showing this type of support for others that are still living with fear, guilt and shame because they are also afflicted, people like me. This is a powerhouse of an album, it thunders like a freight train, it shatters convention like a daisy cutter. And it triumphs over small, hateful minds because it says I don't fucking care what you think anymore.
I am of the opinion that literally everything they've put out has been pure gold, barring MAYBE White Crosses which is still a pretty good time, and I can't really knock that album because it has "Bamboo Bones" and my literal favorite song "I was a Teenage Anarchist." I mean favorite next to literally everything off of Transgender Dysphoria Blues and New Wave and Reinventing Axl Rose and...just listen to everything X'D
It's Pink Shirt Day here in Canada... This song and video is such a great remember that we never know what another person might be going through. I'm probably paraphrasing, but I believe the expression is "Be kind always; for we all are fighting a great battle". LOVE THIS.
seeing these guys perform live always puts the biggest damn smile on my face, plus Laura looks so happy during every performance and ugh I love her so much she deserves nothing but happiness
I can't possibly comprehend how it feels to be transgender. I have so much respect for anyone for coming out, whether that's trans*, gay, etc. Personally I believe that if people are more open about issues or topics like this, things will be easier and lives happier in the future. I myself identify within the LGBTIQA community.I genuinely feel one day we will walk down the street as ourselves, holding our partners hands and not get questioning looks or verbally insulted, or be worried about disowned by family. I also I think that within parts of the UK, that will be soon or at least with the next generation.
Best ever response to this song. Thanks. And I don't identify within the LGBTIQA community - but support it! There was a great interview on CBC's Q about the support the band members give one another. Too bad it was on Q, in hindsight, as it would be hard to watch now.

She's the absolute pinnacle of "not giving a fuck", aka true punk. Is she taking or planning to take hormone treatments? I'm wondering if her voice is ever gonna change. I hope not because I fucking LOVE that voice so much. But I hope ever more that she just does whatever is right for her, and I'm pretty goddamned excited for the new album. Especially with Fat Mike on bass for the recording? Yes, please.
Good luck! And, I say this as a precautionary, because *everyone* will encounter haters, but sadly, people in your shoes even more so... FUCK the haters. Let their hate remind you that you're doin' something right, and that they're just ignorant, and scared of anyone who is proud to be themselves.
You just accused her of 'making fun of fags', yet you just called her 'tranny' - a term that's a derogatory slur and actually taken as a hatecrime in more developed regions of society. Also, there's no 'want', only a 'need'. Apart from the fact she uses 'fag' in a completely different context, you just put yourself across in the worst possible way.
Against me are pioneers. If it wasn't for against me, the world would never have accepted Fat Mike's Sex change, I mean just look at the amount of singers in punk bands that have had sex changes since laura did it.
