30 years on and it's just as clear a picture of today's "unscripted shows" as it was then. RIP Ms. Wood, you were an amazing talent and will be missed.
All these years after it was originally shown, I still giggle watching wonderful Acorn Antiques. Thank you Ms Woods for so much laughter (& tears from the more serious) over the years - R.I.P. 😢
Answering the phone in a family antique shop seems to suit you..what more do I need to say.the most gifted writer and comidienne in the UK .god bless you vic xxx
I loved Crossroads as a child, after school, we mocked it and then even better we saw Victoria Wood’s version in Acorn Antiques! I am sure you are loving your life in the hereafter, wishing you could send us a script on it!
Victoria Wood, what a genius. One thing that haven't managed to find anywhere on UA-cam. My mum certainly wasn't religious but she was a Harry Secombe fan, she loved his singing so she used to watch 'Highway ', just for that. She often used to say jokingly "l wish someone would buy poor old Harry a new anorak" He seemed to wear the same one every week! WELL l think Victoria Wood must have thought the same, she did a skit of this with Scottish tenor Ian Wallace, walking down a country lane, singing a hymn type song wearing an anorak a la Harry Secombe and the song ended with something like "God made me this lovely anorak for me to wear each day!" Both mum and l burst out laughing at this. 🤣
Celia Imrie is an absolute joy to watch,in anything & certainly in Acorn Antiques.Just finished reading her book,"The Happy Hoofer" which was a fascinating read.
acorn antiques was maybe the funniest and best parody of the traditional soap opera ever seen on our tv screens. a very gifted comedienne and comedy writer. she will be missed.
Leigh Richards The 1st Acorn Antiques was actually written by Victoria Wood on the spur of the moment, to fill in a 5 minute void in one of her shows. The rest is history
Despite my grimacing and gnashing my teeth at most television “comedies”, this particular stroke of genius always had me falling out of my chair. I was just this minute watching it on TV, just a couple of clips, and then had the brilliant idea of accessing it on here. Wonderful stuff! I feel an Acorn Antiques binge coming on! 🙃
Thank you so much for going through the effort to put all these up, much appreciated! This has to be my favourite series of VW sketches :) So many brilliant ones to choose from though!
I love the deliberately janky acting and wobbly sets/graphics. Getting the production to look cheap on purpose was a genius idea, including deliberate errors.
Brilliant acting, especially Julie Walters. Mrs Overall - brilliant name! Like the names in the Carry on films: Bill Boozey, Professor Inigo Tinkle, Citizen Camembert etc.
Acorn Antiques. - Episode 1 When Babs asked Mrs. Overall How’s your husband after his accident. - Dead , Is so final, isn’t it. Not a smirk between either of them. True actresses. What a genius show this was. When Clifford said to Babs, There’s something I haven’t told you, I go Bell 🛎 Ringing on Wednesdays. Haha 😂 You can’t do better than this show for a snigger 🤭 or two.
You should check out ''The shoe shop sketch'' from same Vic Wood series show if haven't seen. Bonkers with bells on..! ...we think we've got hens in the skirting boards..
Julie Walters "Stole" every scene. Her character was based on Amy Turtle (Ann George) in Crossroads. Coincidentally Julie and Ann shared the same home town of Smethwick, pronounced Smerrik.
Reminds me of the 'Supermarket Matters' audio podcast, and the old tv parody 'Soap' with Billy Crystal from ABC, but without the alien-baby and the guy that thinks he's invisible, or a set of Whoosh! doors. Is there a Mad Jasper, "The Major", loony, rambbling character?
I used to find Acorn Antiques a bit cheesy and Mrs Overall a bit sad until I worked somewhere the office manager was also PA to the director and volunteer manager and couldn't delegate much as if she was a martyr. She had spent her childhood taking care of her younger half siblings and step siblings and taking care of everybody else was her life script. She even did overtime as a cleaner in the same place when the cleaner was on holiday. Mrs Overall reminds me of her.
its like cheesy badly filmed loads of mistakes and wrong lines bad camera angles it can only be acorn antiques luv it loads its hilarious and i am only 13 so that is quite an unusual thing to say and yes i love the way how its meant to be crap it makes it more funny lol x
I watched a program about this, and they said just how hard it was to deliberately shoot this badly. Many of the people working on these shows were professional, so doing it right was second nature, but the humour was that it should have been shot badly, and it was hard to deliberately muck it up with school boy errors. But their effort really pays off.
'National treasure' is a wildly overused term these days but in Victoria's case it's so very true. That's life (Wish i was 14 again), those two tv plays with Julie Walters,Wood n Walters, As seen on TV, An audience with, Dinnerladies, Housewife, all TV gold. And a wonderful who's who stock company too..
never Mind just Victoria the beautiful miss Babs how alluring. and so talented + the superb Mrs bo without them Victoria would not be so great imrie is more talented. Just bring your antiques in byee😇
Oh abso-bleedin'-lutely,lol.It's one of the most fascinating biogs' of a 'celebrity' I've read in a long time. She is so much more than just 'someone of the box'.Not to spoil it for you,but she's actually from aristocratic birth through her mother's family! Yup,get hold of a copy, you won't be disappointed,or I'll give you your money back, lol. And no I'm NOT her agent, hahaha!
never Mind just Victoria the beautiful miss Babs how alluring. and so talented + the superb Mrs bo without them Victoria would not be so great imrie is more talented. Just bring your antiques in byee😇
Victoria Wood was a national treasure! Thanks for all the laughs dear Victoria x
Amen!

"I go bellringing on Wednesday nights" ,,, 30 years later,, that still makes me cry laughing.
Acorn antiques has been a guiding light for me. Rock on Mrs wood at her best.
All these years after it was originally shown, I still giggle watching wonderful Acorn Antiques. Thank you Ms Woods for so much laughter (& tears from the more serious) over the years - R.I.P. 😢
Rest In Peace the Wonderful Victoria Wood. Thank you for the laughter xx

They should have made a separate series. RIP, Victoria Wood, You were a comedic genius.
I was watchibh Upstairs, downstairs this afternoon & saw a very young Celia Imrie as a nurse!
Pure Gold Dust - All those laughs over the years and this still makes me curl up ! RIP Victoria

'His heart stop beating...sometimes that's gods way of telling you your dead' 😂
YOU'RE DEAD , not YOUR, which is a possessive pronoun!! GOD! WTF happened to the educational system?
acorn antiques was maybe the funniest and best parody of the traditional soap opera ever seen on our tv screens. a very gifted comedienne and comedy writer. she will be missed.

and the show was more 'naturalistic' than *real* soapies
Victoria was a great observer of life - and created it into such fun!
Crossroads was the obvious inspiration for this mini-series!!
Love Julie Walters 'the scene has finished' face at 2.12. Brilliant!!
Thank you so much for going through the effort to put all these up, much appreciated! This has to be my favourite series of VW sketches :) So many brilliant ones to choose from though!
'His heart stopped beating, yess well that's god's way of telling you you're dead. Never mind its bingo tonight.' lol
Bingo is god's way of telling you you're alive
this is timeless... bloody brilliant!
She defined a style of Camp.
And was one of the funniest people on TV ever.
Julie walters killed me in this 😅😂😅😂😂 ah god ilove her lol
I go bell ringing on Wednesday nights 😀 so funny...will miss her forever x
I’ve just realised the sideways closing credits are straight out of Crossroads!
So very sad to hear Victoria Woods has died at 62. Thankyou for so many laughs.
They broke the mould when they made Victoria.
She is an inspiration in so many ways.
A leader in the comedienne world!
What a cast in Acorn Antiques ❤
Came here to remind myself about the brilliant Victoria Wood. RIP.
this is so great...thank

Victoria Wood was fantastic loved her ❤
Thank you Victoria. Gone well to soon. You have inspired me.

I hope this is a send up of american soaps, cos they are spot on
"well they say things go in threes!"
"Why what ever is the matter now?"
"You forgeot my sweetner" LOL! I love that line!
❤❤❤ 2023 and miss you Victoria
I love how all the camera angles are set to be "very bad"
Ha ha!
Any man mad enough to 'leave' Celi Imrie by the handbags probably SHOULD take up bell-ringing (on Wednesday, and every other night) !!
Just pop back at five for the hoovering lol
Thanks! If you can, please check out the other Acorn Antiques episodes I've uploaded...
You're welcome.I actually bought my copy in WH Smiths though no doubt Amazon will stock it.Good luck and happy reading.

I love the deliberately janky acting and wobbly sets/graphics. Getting the production to look cheap on purpose was a genius idea, including deliberate errors.
Perfection.
Got the DVD, I absolutely love this, it is so funny.
She was one of the good guys! Goodbye Victoria and thanks.
It's official, Mrs Overall is Mrs Bird in David Heyman and Paul Kings adaptation of Paddington Bead, being released in December 2014!
LOL "They say things go in threes! "Why whatever's wrong now? "You forgot my sweeteners!" LOL!
Pure class.
Oooh! I love Acorn Antiques! Best show EVER!

Julie Walters "Stole" every scene.

Coincidentally Julie and Ann shared the same home town of Smethwick, pronounced Smerrik.
Is there any other way to pronounce Smethwick?
michelformika Smeth ick
@@benswindlehurst1857 Smeth-wick - if you’re American!
Absolute class
We fucking miss you and your talent Victoria ❤❤❤❤

love it. do the couple at the back ever buy anything?
Never once!
Hilarious!
Your missing a couple of episodes :(
Also you can watch this in higher quality if you add &fmt=18 to the address.
It's just like crossroads but better acted. 😌
I used to find Acorn Antiques a bit cheesy and Mrs Overall a bit sad until I worked somewhere the office manager was also PA to the director and volunteer manager and couldn't delegate much as if she was a martyr. watch Reginald Perrin.

Clifford and Miss Babs. Still a better love story than Twilight.
Manchester Ford? Fucking brilliant.
Oh abso-bleedin'-lutely,lol.It's one of the most fascinating biogs' of a 'celebrity' I've read in a long time. She is so much more than just 'someone of the box'.Not to spoil it for you,but she's actually from aristocratic birth through her mother's family! Mrs Overall = My Mum =3
Ha ha! Mine too!
check out Dark Shadows Bloopers #2 and it is like watching this show...only real mess ups! lol Funny stuff!
I will never be able to face another macaroon agin without tittering.
Still a better story than Twilight.
Since enamored came up on my smart phone I guess you must have got George Clooney before I told raz. So. How about this one?
Macaroons?
Rowena
From KUWAIT?? 😂😂
Acorn Antiques was absolute rubbish but in a brilliantly funny way!
It was mocking the poorly made soap operas of the time (e.g. Crossroads).
Rowena from Kuwait 🇰🇼 😂
:)
The inane canned laughter drowns out the dialogue. Why must they do that which spoils the clips.
Poor audience reaction!
never Mind just Victoria the beautiful miss Babs how alluring. and so talented + the superb Mrs bo without them Victoria would not be so great imrie is more talented. Just bring your antiques in byee😇
