A quick explanation about the editing for those who care - the footage is taken from a docuseries about the making of the programme. Unfortunately the narrator carried on continuously from the behind the scenes footage to the interviews, and as the whole documentary would inevitably be taken down if I uploaded it, I thought some people may appreciate just seeing the outtakes. So this is exactly as they happen in all three documentaries, in chronological order. You're very welcome. The full documentary series can be bought on NowTV.
Connie Gavin I’ve recently watched all the series and enjoyed them so much. I feel so sad that Victoria Wood is no longer in the world, a huge loss to us all. Great to see her giggling and having such a good time in making the series. Thank you for sharing.
@@jackiecopeland1835agree it was a very sad day when I heard Victoria Wood was no longer with us. So much laughter she brought to the world. May she rest in peace
Victoria Wood was very poorly-served by DVD releases of her fantastic shows. This shows there is a wealth of additional material that could make a new DVD release that *every* Wood fan would buy. All we got on the Dinnerladies dvd was a static menu and the episodes. They didn’t even put subtitles on as an option. Victoria Wood deserves so much better, as this fantastic video shows! Many thanks for posting 😃
I don't understand how it can move up the list. Is that just to make room for the lesser efforts? This was, then, now and always will be No.1, too of the tree. We were so incredibly blessed to live in a time when Victoria Wood was creating gems like this!
@@PercyPruneMHDOIFandBars - What I mean is that DINNER LADIES find new audiences and is appreciated more than it was. I agree - it should be right at the top with Fawlty Towers.
I still miss Victoria Wood and when I see something like this, I also remember Caroline Aherne, who died a few months after Victoria in 2016. They were two of the funniest women around, immense talents.
I think, of all the celebrities that have died in recent years Victoria Wood has to be the most heartbreaking. She had so much more to give. it would be difficult, if not impossible, to find another woman, or man, that has her talent, and generosity.
This was such a fantastic series, just look at the cast! Wood and Walters, Celia Imrie, a very young Maxine Peake, and so many more. A classic in all senses of the word. I remember seeing it when it first aired, decades ago, and its lost nothing over time.
I like the way she wrote. She didn`t as the star, reserve all the funniest lines to herself. She shared them out and gave everybody a chance to be funny.
100% brilliant, fantastic, and a BIG thank-you to whoever put these clips together. Victoria on top form as ever - almost as good as watching an actual show. Well done everyone 😉 xxx
Vic was the only comic whose shows I wouldn't miss, be they on telly or on stage. It was like losing a member of the family when she died. Her brilliance was made so obvious here when stalwarts of British comedy, each highly successful and influential in their own right, were queuing up to work with her. Eric Sykes was a comedy genius in his own right (should that be write?), and both Thora and Dora just oozed comic timing and perfection. An ensemble cast second to none. Sublime comedy. ❤
we still watch any reshowing of this series as it still has us in fits of laughter a great cast and an amazing writer, much missed Victoria and the dinner ladies (and gents!)
Been away from UA-cam for six weeks. Came back, searched first for VW (of course), and WOW! great NEW item. Thank you very much Connie. Hey Aussies - most episodes are on YT.
British comedy at its best, the genius of Victoria Wood. She created magic with Julie Walters and the cast of dinnerladies. Watched the box set several times and it never fails to make you laugh out loud. This must have been a gift and a joy to all involved in production
She really was a comic genius, but to take nothing away from Julie Walters. How she managed to say some of those lines, even after multiple takes, without collapsing is beyond me.
This programme was so good, and so funny thanks to UA-cam I still enjoy it. I miss Victoria Wood she was so talented, the Angels must be enjoying her❤❤❤
Having read Julie Walters biography this summer & now in the middle of Celia Imre's, there has been many outbursts of laughter in the works canteen. almost ready to bust my slats reading Victoria Wood's story.
Brilliant series, she should have made more of dinner ladies. She captured the atmosphere of a factory canteen great and the interaction of the staff with the factory workers. Brings back memories
"This is Maxeane, she hasn't done any acting before ... not even this afternoon" But once Maxeane got going there is no stopping her, a fantastic actress
Victoria Wood visited the factory where I worked to get some ideas. Two of the characters were based on real people from our canteen (the manager and the maintenance man).
Lovely footage. Thank you for sharing Connie. I note parts of the studio eg. doors etc. that were (perhaps) being used as part of the set. TC8 was always very much in demand. Studio audiences should always be made to feel part of the show - which indeed they are. If numerous re-takes are needed they might miss the last bus home. Thankfully most are perfectly happy to go along with it all.
I probably need to upgrade my laptop but I could barely hear this. That said, it was still a joy to watch. I've got the series in a box set and must have watched each episode numerous times. They never get old.
What really comes over is the fantastic atmosphere on set. They are having the best time and obviously adore each other. The mistakes must have been so enjoyable for the audience.
Thelma barlow was really funny shes such a great actor i wish victoria was still around so glad we can see her on tv regularly it feels like shes still here
I can imagine the scene "yes, I have done a sit-com, and yes, there's a role in it for you. Of course, you're my friend. Quite a big role. You're not going to... you play me mother."
As good today as it ever was, Shakespeare, eat your heart out Victoria Wood has you beat hands down. Her passing was a very great loss to the world of comedy.
Amazing, but not unsurprising, how many of the main cast (bar Victoria herself, Celia Imrie & Julie Walters) have featured in Coronation Street, either before (Anne Reid, Thelma Barlow, Maxine Peake, Sue Devaney) or after (Shobna Gulati, Andrew Dunn, Duncan Preston) dinnerladies, and most of them (bar Maxine) in multi-episode/regular appearances. Many of the one off guest artists also did prolonged stints on the Street. Unsurprising because Victoria knew class when she saw it, and it's been said that the people who work on Coronation Street are widely regarded in British TV as the most reliable actors in the business. And it shows. There's not a weak link in this cast. Like another brilliantly cast British sitcom, The Good Life, dinnerladies will be one I will always bemoan there are not more episodes of, but acknowledge how perfectly crafted it is as it stands.
People on corrie WERE the most reliable actors in the business. Not any more. If you watch corrie nowadays there’s only a handful of people amongst the 80 or so cast that can actually act. Eastenders is the place in modern time soaps nowadays to find talented actors, regardless of what you think of the plots, stories, tone etc. you cannot deny the people in that soap can act. Corrie though? The wheels have really well and truly fallen off acting wise
What's wrong with this? The commentary keeps cutting off abruptly and then it changes to another scene. Is it stolen from somewhere and re-edited to avoid copyright?
Thanks for uploading this, such a joy to watch! I was just wondering if you have all three full episodes? I’m situated outside of the uk so I can’t watch it on any uk streaming service and I would love to be able to see them somehow. I’m such a big fan of Victoria and of dinnerladies in particular!
When Victoria Wood introduced Maxine Peake (Twink) to the studio audience, she said she'd been to Rada but not done any acting. 14 years before dinner ladies she played Jonny Briggs' sister on BBC1
