The immortal soldiers of the Swedish Empire, a reminder that history is always full of stories that are just waiting to be picked up by those who are interested in learning about them. Cheers Jack and Tubby!
2:33 When he mentions we had low manpower in Sweden he means it. We had 1,4 million people living in the real and Denmark- Norway could rival us because they are closer to population center. And Russia at the time had 20 million people so you can probably guess why we couldn’t afford to fight long protracted wars like the other nations and fight the same way in long slow battles. That’s kind of warfare was too costly for us so that’s why we developed our own blitz of shock style doctrines where we wanna keep battles short and decisive so instead we then choose to fight much more aggressively than other nations. It worked well as long as we didn’t have long drawn our campaigns and suffer attrition or we didn’t face an equally as elite army as our own.
Finland was an integral part of Sweden at the time, the oldest military units in our defence forces trace back to the Great Sweden era as we call this. Alot of finns were cavalry, the Hakkapeliitta, we had the rote system too.
@@lazydazepodcast6052 probably not, necessity is the mother of all inventions ,the Swedish developed those tactics because of their low manpower, but if they had the same professionalism, determination and talent whith bigger manpower they would've been unstoppable
He explains bits wrong its three Volleys per fire, one rank kneeling and two standing. And if he wasnt already Injured Carl would always Charge in along with his men so if you dont want to loose your king you better fight for yours and his life. 🤣

An oldish nickname for the military is "Ruotuväki" Rote folk
Sweden was not in the position to fight a long and brutal war, they simply didn't have the manpower
The Swedish Empire would've been unstoppable if they had the same manpower as other European powers at the time, like Germany or France.
But would their tactics be the same?
