    I've been watching your videos Joe for a while now. I'm realizing that, even at 60 and haven't played guitar in years, it is very possible to succeed...even at my age. I love watching you and learning from you. Thank you so much for all that you do. So greatly appreciate you ❤

    Thanks, Joe, for your videos.
    First off, they're very helpful. Secondly, you've got a wonderfully soothing voice and attitude (that's definitely part of the 10% talent!).
    As for singing while playing, early on - playing bass actually - I found that the hardest thing was the placement of the vocals on top of the played rhythm. Still the hardest thing for me, because luckily, pitch generally isn't a problem. And as I was struggling with it, I found that at some point, after a certain amount of hitting your head against the wall, two separate channels sort of magically build up in your brain. Synapses growing, I'm guessing. And having that happen the *first* time was a wonderful revelation, because it made me understand that it *could* happen, that if I worked hard enough, things would eventually fall into place. And that's so important because frustration is a great obstacle to perseverance.
    One other thing, is that learning in separate parts may be helpful. i.e. singing over and over the parts you are struggling with especially - it may be just 2-3 words that can't seem to fit in with the rhythm. Given enough time - they will. But better work on them separately rather than in the context of an entire song.

    A simple little advice , it makes so much sense , that sometimes we overlook the importance of small details ( write the lyrics ) or sing it naked , thanks a lot Joe .

      Hi again Jose, as you say many people can easily overlook the small details. I know you are not a beginner, however I have recently finished s free course for everything the beginner should know, again it includes many things that are overlooked. Just in case you are interested here is a link to the course joesguitarlessons.weebly.com/bonus-material.html

    Hey Joseph
    Great lesson. I have been at it for 3 months and set my goals to high, you have motivated me to try again with something simpler.

      Rod Will Glad it helped Rod, as you say, important not to set goals too high, this can sometimes make you feel like you are not getting much better. The secret is to set goals you can reach relatively quickly, that way you maintain interest.. Good luck

    Thanks for the tips joe, my problem is I never learn a song all the way through because I get bored as I can’t sing along, like you said, keep it simple and practice as there is no magic bullet which I guess I’ve been looking for.

    • @JoeMurphysGuitarlessons
      @JoeMurphysGuitarlessons  4 роки тому

      Hi Russell, yeah the best advice I can give you is to try and learn songs all the way through. That is the first thing you want to put right.

    I find playing guitar from tabs fairly easy but find singing along to tracks difficult. I think it's because my vocal range is quite narrow so If a song is not in the right key for me practicing by singing along to it doesn't work very well. Any tips on how I can work out what chords best fits my voice and what the best key for me to sing in is? Thanks. PS. I've just discovered your channel and I'm finding it really useful so thank you.

      Well that’s what you are doing essentially, but I take your point. Having said that I put a lot into my lessons and feel you can get as much out of these as you would one to one. Over at my Patreon page, you get to ask your questions which I can answer sometimes In dedicated videos. Anyways I’m always here to help, just keep playing, that’s the best thing you can do

      Hey music man, thanks for getting in touch, sorry to hear about your problems. Can I help, depends what you mean ? What do you most need help with ? I have arthritis which has affected my playing significantly, but I am now finding ways to overcome some of these issues. Most of my work is now done on Patreon, which gives me chance to help all those who help me ( pay my heating bill ) $5 per month price of a coffee ! Which I think is very reasonable. You can find it here if interested www.patreon.com/joesguitarlessons drop me a message there and let me know how I can help, as I don’t do too much here anymore.
