    You are a fantastic teacher! I love the way you break everything down into simple kindergarten terms. I'm over 65 but I've never learned music theory and it is a lot to grasp! I'm self taught and never learned to read music so thank you so much and keep up the good work. I'm sure my ukuele playing well improve greatly from Watching your videos.

    I can relate Gracie, and I empathize with the challenge one faces while trying to sing and play simultaneously. I always used to tell people that singing while playing drums is like trying to recite “Little Miss Muffet” while flying a helicopter! No, I’ve never flown a helicopter, but you get the gist. Keep up the great work! You’re awesome!

    I didn't express clearly in chat. I play guitar and learn song's and know it's hard to sing and play at same time. At any parties I am usually the one who knows all the words and what is especially annoying is once someone hears beginning hooks of songs they blurt out lyrics and don't even come in with the first word of the song which of course is very important...I try to play note for note renditions so I rearrange for example leads separate of lyrics when words normally sung on top of. Rebel Rebel (Bowie)...same riff, I can play for hours so cool but singing on top isn't the easiest but the 3 intro lines of just do do's and lyrics start on 4th is a natural transition and totally compliments your approach to singing and playing. What a marvelous coincidence..me learning the Rebel' and you having complimentary advice live premier. So cool!🤙😎.

      @@GracieTerzian I was thinking the same thing. You have a way of singing that seems effortless but a voice as beautiful as yours is evidence of much effort. Can you give tips on how you do that?

    This method helped me so much when I was just beginning my Middle Aged Musical Mystery Tour and learning to play the ukulele. 10 months later, I’m back, because what’s happened is that I’m so locked in with the island strum, I keep defaulting to it when trying to learn a new strumming pattern/rhythm when singing a new song. So, I have to start all over to break my voice free again. 😂

    Can’t wait to share this with my ukulele club. This is a frequent topic that comes up with beginning players. Recording yourself and then playing along is a great idea. Going to try this with some tricky strumming patterns tomorrow. Thanks!

    Thanks, Gracie, for the great tips! I love playing the song, "That's the Way" by Led Zeppelin, but find it impossible to sing to while strumming along with the guitar. The guitar definitely has a different cadence/rhythm from the sung melody. I am going to try your suggestions of recording the guitar part with a metronome then try to "dry strum" and sing along with it. I think with a lot of practice I can get it. (Geddy Lee of Rush would play bass with his hands, organ(?) pedals with his feet AND sing a melody at the same time. Amazing.) P.S. The main thing I took away from this video is, "PLAY WITH IT!!!" Try different combinations of singing and strumming until you finally get the sound you want.

    I’m having the same problem with piano playing too. Left & right hand with different rhythms, but trying to add the vocals just throws me off. I’ll try this on piano.
    Could you do this lesson on piano too?

    👍🙂/ That was the most beautiful voice I've ever heard singing that tune ...and you are the most graceful human being/ musician/ teacher I think I've ever seen! That was excellent! ... And that was the first time in all my year's I've ever come across anyone showing how to sing/ play at the same time! That was miraculous!
    I'm actually not looking to sing and play 🎸 at the same time but thought I would check out the vid as I find/ found it interesting indeed !
    I could never sing/ play 🎸 at the same time ... I'm ambidextrous (some kind of strangely odd ambidextrous anyway ha! ... I have it pinpointed to that and the reason I could never do both at the same time! ...I think that has a lot to do with it anyway ... : singing and playing ain't happening ...my brain and hand's stop/ shut right down ...I've tried! ...I don't think I'm the greatest sounding yodeling yodeler either ...so I'll stick with the playing only thank you ha! 😀.
    This was an excellent vid/ lesson!!! 👍!
    You are gifted beyond Gracie ... thank you for the lesson's I've seen 🙂-
    Have a wonderful Merry Christmas ahead to you, your's and all 🎄🙂

    I guess music is just mechanics.

    • @GracieTerzian
      @GracieTerzian  Рік тому +4

      We have to practice the mechanics so that we don’t have to think about it anymore.. then we can then get lost in the musicality and expression of what we are playing. But the mechanics have to be confidently there underneath.
