I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I am a former catholic in Austria who left this man made institution studying the history and comparing it with the bible. What all happened under the name of God and Jesus since the 4th century for about 1500 years is simply a shame and prevent many people to believe. "Have a look on the fruits" Jesus said. And the fruits of this power and money oriented "church" still claims to be the only true one. What a contradiction. It is the worst thing if a little bit of truth is mixed with lies. And this is also a problem/danger of all new christian denominations. Therefore I will never again join something like that. Jesus, the bible and the community with humble people who believe the same is enough.

And the Catholic Church is the reason anyone is Christian. If you go back far enough everyone in Europe was Catholic. It’s the largest religion in the world. Your claim of the Church being the reason so many don’t believe is the exact opposite. No one has evangelized and converted more people than Catholicism. It’s the one true faith. I hope you repent and come back to the Church. There’s no salvation outside of it.

This sounds typically catholic. With the same threats and keeping people away from reading the bible this "church" was able to dominate kingdoms and finally people. Study the history and then write an educated interpretation of the faith Jesus spoke about and what the RCC practiced.

I keep faith even as I constantly struggle to provide for my kids and I constantly struggle to buy groceries. My husband is with you God. At times I feel so alone especially as a single mom. Since suffering a heart attack two years ago and my on going battle with lupus I’m overwhelmed. Both of my sons are autistic. I’m now homeschooling them so my hours to work are limited. Exactly!!! I was talking with an Atheist trying to explain that to him but at the end I figured it out . God saves who he wants to save and hardens the heart of who he wants. Going forward I have decided that I will share the Gospel with an Atheist and move on not going to have a back and forth because it may not be in God's will for that person, but once they are judged they cannot say they never heard the Gospel.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, and those around me, that I've talked to about it.....but, for me, my biggest obstacle is that in my 56 years, I've never, if I'm being honest with myself, felt that He is here, there, or anywhere having ANY involvement in the world. Perhaps you can ask the questions: what do you expect to feel from God and why did you come to that conclusion? Also, what do you think God's involvement in the world will look like, and why did you come to that conclusion? If you expect God to move in a way that you expect Him to, then why does He have to work according to your standards even if He loves you? What led you to that conclusion? Is your reasoning sound and any evidence you have strong enough to be believed in beyond a reasonable doubt? These are not easy questions to answer and all people regardless of belief should ask them of themselves. As Socrates said, "An unexamined life is not worth living."
For example, a Christian would say God is involved in the world through Christ's resurrection and the Holy Spirit which brings people from all walks of life to repentance of their own free will. Not everyone will repent, but those who do testify that it is through the power of God. To them, this is God's involvement in the world, and Christ claims that we can see the evil of how the world works through following His guidance and wisdom. This means that even the way the world works and where it is leading to can be a sign of God's involvement and divine planning. The question then is about the credibility of the evidence.

That was a good example of not seeing what's right in front of our eyes. We visited Tucson and we were told that across the road was a lot of pottery. I went over to look and saw nothing in an hour of looking. I was looking for pieces resembling China fragments. The person took us over and as soon as they showed us what the fragments looked like all of a sudden the pieces were everywhere including under our footprints from before. Knowing what the evidence is makes a massive difference.
Ok. But using that analogy, talk of God is like talk of pottery being everywhere. Which does not seem to be the case at all, and indicates that there either is no such thing as God or that God is, or can be, largely hidden.

This isn’t to say that the evidence of God is only in one place, and this isn’t to say pottery is everywhere. The analogy isn’t perfect, but it’s conveys that evidence is there, you just may not see it initially.

Matt definitely dropped the ball in that debate if he claims he doesn’t know what good evidence would look like. I can come up with thousands of specific things that would convince me; one of those being someone regrowing a limb. I would claim as a skeptic that I am ALLOWED to have gap arguments in such a way as theists are making a claim in the affirmative. Every academic, scholastic, and legal entity of the modern world recognizes that the burden of proof falls on the accuser (the affirmative party). Beyond that? How about 3-4 non Christian accounts, legal records, recordings not in the Bible, that have claims people saw a resurrected Christ? But you don’t have that do you? You have nothing beyond one source, and I look an any evidentiary claim with skepticism with only one source, theistic or otherwise.
All human beings were given lives and free will by the Creator, which means, all human beings are not ignorant and unaware but KNOW and fully aware that all are free to believe what they want to believe and worship whoever they want to worship.

For me the biggest obstacle is that God does not reveal himself. He remains mute when there is suffering in the world and he does not intervene in his creation. In addition the creation looks like it has just evolved without any specific plan.
How could a god find it pleasing to never do anything?
He also remained mute while His son Jesus was brutally beaten and crucified to the point he became unrecognizable. He did intervene, using Jesus, so we can have eternal salvation. He never said he'd take away the suffering in this world, only peace in the next.
In order to ensure that our choice is truly free, God puts us in an environment that is filled with evidence of his existence, but without his direct presence- a presence so powerful that it could overwhelm our freedom and thus negate our ability to reject him.
In other words, God has provided enough evidence in this life to convince anyone willing to believe, yet he has also left some ambiguity so as not to compel the unwilling.
In this way, God gives us the opportunity either to love him or to reject him without violating our freedom. In fact, the purpose of this life is to make that choice freely and without coercion.
For love, by definition, must be freely given. It cannot be coerced. God isn't going to stalk you, because stalking isn't love.
We humans have a fatal tendency to try to adjust the truth to fit our desires rather than adjusting our desires to fit the truth.
BTW... do you want God to intervene in your life when you are preparing to lie to someone? You claim you want God to intervene, but he'd better not intervene when it comes to stopping you from doing evil. Can't have it both ways.

To add to what Trent said, one of the self-refuting pieces of Dillahunty’s “science” of labs and beakers and material evidence is that he can only believe what he personally measures and verifies. I really don’t mean to seem prickly or “edgy” (believer here, by the way), but having viewed and engaged with a ton of comment sections in videos like this over the past couple of years, I’ve noticed a preponderance of comments from Christians that are, quite frankly, not helpful.
I love the Lord too. I believe in him and trust him too, however weak my faith may be. And we should all be talking about this. But we should *also* be providing well-reasoned arguments that the atheist can engage with. When I play atheist in my own brain, which is a problem I have because I’m so hyper-critical of everything, I find myself scrolling tbr comments and saying “that’s nice, but what does it prove to me” again and again.
I don’t want anyone to take this the wrong way. There’s not only nothing wrong with professing our faith; it’s absolutely what we are called to do. It’s just not all that we are called to do.

My conclusion is that Christianity is false since their claims don't seem to be true.

The big bang itself is just a theory and not fact (see JWST findings) so I don't see why anything "needs" to conform to the worldview that it presents given the proceeding claim doesn't inherently defy logic. But regardless, a creator and a big bang can absolutely be true together, in fact it's basically implied by the big bang theory itself because it posits a temporally finite universe and based on all known laws of physics, something cannot come from nothing.

His early followers died for their belief, that's not something that people normally do when they're lying. How was Paul converted? The spread of Christianity seems to be a phenomenon that can't be explained by simple manipulative liers and bouts of mass hysteria. Many many people clearly truly believed.
We don't "know" that beings require a physical brain and body to exist that's just an assumption you've made based on observation. What if someday we create consciousness in a computer? You don't know that that's not possible. That would be a being without a biological brain or body. Also there is tons of testimony of things like ghosts and spirits which would constitute a "being" that doesn't have a physical manifestation, and you may doubt those claims, but ghosts are as observable as consciousness in the brain, in other words there is no physical proof of either. We assume others are conscious, it's not a testable phenomenon. So to make claims like it's impossible for consciousness to exist outside of physical reality is absurd when we don't even know how consciousness manifests in the brain in the first place.

I loved this interview, very informative and eye opening. One of the obstacles not mentioned in this diacussion is pride. Going from atheism to theism means you have to acknowledge that there is a supreme omnitient being and you are his creation. It means he is in the position and authority to tell you what’s good and evil, he can judge you on the basis of the law he presented to follow. Also that he is a loving person deserving your love and respect. Accepting that idea requires humility and understanding that you actually need God. I think that can be difficult and perhaps that is the reason why faith is grace.
If he's so powerful why is his only method of communication the words written by ignorant men thousands of years ago? Surely he could just talk to each individual at some point and be like "hey, I'm here, you have the option of grovelling at my feet and worshipping the horrible acts I condone like slavery, or just do what you want and I'll torture you indefinitely for all eternity because I'm a real nice guy!", but he doesn't. To say that one person not seeing the evidence of the resurrection, could mean his observations of that evidence are flawed is all very well. The problem though, is that it's not just one person. There's billions out there that have seen no evidence of the resurrection. The claims of the resurrection in the Bible were written nearly 2000 years ago, and observed by a handful of quite uneducated (by our standards) people, and documented decades later by second-hand teachings. This is the ultimate issue that I struggle with in believing, and I don't think that was fully addressed here, and nor can it be as it happened 2000 years ago. So whilst I am in no doubt there's intelligent design in our universe, I'm still struggling with the idea of the resurrection.
I think part of the problem is that people don't want to commit themselves to believing. They also don't want to do the work of studying or finding info on Christ. Most young adults no longer have the attention span to care to know.
As one such Atheist who's mind was changeable given sufficient exploration, it wasn't evidence, per say that was the sticking point, it was my understanding of truth.
The reason I was never convinced before was that I did not have a framework built in my head of truth as a fractal, hierarchical structure. I was never satisfied with the materialist explanation of truth as a set of objective facts either, but it was something Jordan Peterson said in his first ever debate with Sam Harris, where he elucidated that the truth which is also self replicating is of a higher order of truth than that which is self destructive and the whole nature of reality shifted instantaneously into greater alignment.
As if I had been squinting through a badly focused lense that had suddenly come into focus.
Once you actually understand that embodied action is inexorably linked to the transmission of ideas and philosophy and morality, then it's like, yes, there is an objective way to measure which set of ideas is better and it isn't just all relative. And that understanding will inevitably lead to some form of Christianity, I believe.
I think one big difference is to come to reason that God exists beyond, outside of science and the physical realm. There is a broad inability to conceive of a larger reality the transcends our physical reality. Assumptions in our world view are taken as an unquestioned foundation while we try to compare in consistently in our world (universe) view. A component in our limited understanding of suffering and the existence of evil is that humans have no view of reality that extends beyond mortal life.
I honestly think people find Christianity unbelievable because they don't want to be held accountable by something they can't see their arrogance says that I have to control my life nobody else nothing else. In the process of doing that however they lose the ability to listen to the science that they so fervently call for that tells them you are special. They can't see that the being they are goes beyond this world. Because they're too wrapped up in the material world. Or going back to the basics, as my Dad used to say they can't see the forest for the trees. 💯!!! Finding God is like finding the forest All you have to do is open your eyes. 3. The second point is relevant because morals are ideas. So it doesn't contradict materialism if that person admits morals (principles of right/wrong behavior) exist; people can and do have those ideas (those principles).
4. 5:30 what's the biggest obstacle? Lack of evidence of any gods. We don't know gods exist. The "evidence" theists present is staggeringly bad and anyone who pursues truth with truth as the focus must be honest enough to admit that.
Trent is right to bring up morality, given the Problem of Evil is a major self-contradiction in Christianity and therefore a major cause of people abandoning belief. (Trent was correct that if you can show self-contradictions in a worldview, you've proven that worldview is wrong. We saw (in points 2-3) Trent was wrong in his attempt to show a self-contradiction with Materialism. Meanwhile the Problem of Evil is a self-contradiction in Christianity which says an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-good god caused everything, yet if such a being caused everything, reality would be entirely good.)

Love it, thank you. WLC and others say: without God (that is without eternal life) everything would be ultimately meaningless. I think that's true. Some people respond by saying something along the lines: things that are temporary can be very meaningful or even more meaningful than eternal things, in other words temporary things are more precious precisely bc they are finite. What would you say in response? Maybe: if you were yourself temporary, there would be nobody to find something precious or meaningful in the end. And without God you would be just a bunch of chemicals and chemical reactions are neither good nor bad, meaningful or meaningless.
Most evil things can be done without real consequences if God is not real. For example, you can basically just torture someone without regard to how they felt for the entire duration of the torture. This is because even if the victim was suffering, it's not like they're going to remember it after they die. Some may also think that without God, they are free to be hedonistic to the extreme because no one is going to judge them and nothing matters after they die, even if it means self-destruction using dangerous drugs. Unfortunately, the natural reaction of most people when presented with this meaningless end is despair. They may not admit it but ever since the actual rise of atheism and anti-theism, depression and suicide rates also went up. For me, I do very much like the hope given to me by Jesus Christ.

@Maranatha-rk7lh Actually your premises are flawed in a number of ways. Firstly people do blame lions when they kill someone, they mostly just put them down. Sure you can say they did just because they were animals but that doesn't necessarily equate to animals being amoral. This consideration is mostly the case because animals are driven by necessity. It's also difficult to say we have true free will in deterministic universe. For clarity I'm a compatiblist. It's pretty clear to me that any logical evaluation of God and his morals finds him wanting.

They played a slight of hand in this video when talked about the extra evidence necessary for sustaining the claim. It's when they talked about having a dog vs having a dragon in the house. It's easy to believe the claim of having a dog, it's enough a testimony of it, but if one claims to have a dragon in the house, need more than that. This analogy is also applicable for the resurrection of Jesus. They discussed this analogy without making a proper analysis. The dragon claim was analyzed in one way, but the Jesus resurrection claim was analyzed in a different way. They said about this analogy without applying the same analysis of those two claims. This way they kind of deceived the audience by talking about one claim in one way and about another claim in another way. They said that we have reason to doubt the dragon claim, because we have good evidence that there aren't dragons out there in the world. They supposed to apply the same logic to Jesus's resurrection, as we require more evidence of that claim, because we don't have the competing evidence of dead people being resurrected. So, it's the same problem with the dragon claim, but they didn't want to go there so it was disingenuous. They didn't want to open that can of worms, so they didn't go there, because they tried to avoid the possibility of having a challenging view against the resurrection of Jesus, so that's why it was a sort of a slight of hand played in here intentionally or unintentionally.
The biggest obstacle to belief in god is the Christian bible, which actually debunks god, and is actual evidence for man creating god.
Trent is so full of it. He knows exactly what "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" means. Testimony from 2,000 years ago isn't sufficient to convince thinking people that someone rose from the dead. Jesus can come back any day now and prove he's anything but dust. But we all know deep down that he's dead, gone and never coming back.
Try a more personal approach to recognizing the presence of God in this world. You're depending on other people to convince you but it doesn't work that way.
Testimonies are meant to strengthen faith, not create it from scratch. Try a more personal approach.

I am a former catholic in Austria who left this man made institution 33 years ago studying the history and comparing it with the bible. What all happened under the name of God and Jesus since the 4th century for about 1500 years is simply a shame and prevent many people to believe. "Have a look on the fruits" Jesus said. And the fruits of this power and money oriented "church" still claims to be the only true one. What a contradiction. It is the worst thing if a little bit of truth is mixed with lies. And this is also a problem/danger of all new christian denominations. Therefore I will never again join something like that. Jesus, the bible and the community with humble people who believe the same is enough.
Can't call science knowledge, as it keeps changing with each scientific revolution. The previous known truth is thrown out for the new truth and knowledge as we learn more.
Science doesn't ask for extraordinary evidence that the first cell necessary for evolution to even start. Dr. Tour does a great job showing the chemistry speaks strongly against evolution.

The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.

Big bang didn’t cause itself and the laws of nature make it impossible for random interactions to take place in the universe. Random chance is a failure of our own theories to take the full picture of natural reality into account. These theories take intellectual shortcuts and set limits that don’t exist within the universe. The biggest obstacle I find is the church! People are taught one thing in church and seemingly another in schools and they reach a point where they have to choose religion or science. It took me until late adulthood to learn the science of flood geology, the comparison of the big bang to Genesis, the archeological evidence available. For myself and the people I know, the church sold us a story and my friends are blown away when I show them Jabal Maqla and flood geology evidence at mt. St. Helen's. The church needs to realize in Sunday school what kids are learning Mon-fri and meet that with the Biblical view so it's not either you believe one or the other.
The problem is there is no evidence for a god. Kids see the lies the church tells them.

I'm only partway through the video right now but this is what caused me to doubt and then finally completely lose my faith and any belief in the supernatural:
1. God is completely silent and indistinguishable from something that doesn't exist: He never spoke to me. Never unambiguously made himself known, despite my pleading, sincerity and tears. I observed that as humankind learned and grew, our best explanations for the world around us all came from scientific discoveries rather than theology, hence the notion of the "god of the gaps". My parents and minister told me that he makes himself known through the Bible, however...
2. The Bible: The more I studied it, the more it seemed to be developed by an ignorant bronze/iron age culture, with all of the appendant social mores and structures and cosmic understandings we would expect from such cultures. Not to mention that it is tedious, confusing and contradictory - having spawned a thousand or more denominations since it was compiled that all disagree with each other on one or many points...
3. Mythological creatures + miracles: As I grew into a young man, I just did not find these to be remotely plausible. Other religions and cultures have these as well. Somehow *those* weren't real, but the ones in the Bible *were* real? It just completely failed the sniff test for me. And obviously there is no evidence for any of them beyond the kind of evidence we also have for vampires and goblins (ie: they're in books, people claimed to have experienced them).
4. Moral issues: These can be mainly be summarised by:
a.) Various genocides commanded or undertaken by God (Amalekites, Canaanites, Egyptian firstborn, everyone in the flood), and specifically the wiping out of innocents - babies and toddlers.
b.) Chattel slavery (not jubilee bondservant arrangements) instructed by god in Leviticus, the terms of which were in some respects even worse than that of the Hebrews' neighbours
(Again, both of these what we would expect to see from a brutal bronze age culture rather than a bronze age culture led by a supposedly omnibenevolent deity)
c.) Hell: ie, eternal torture for finite wrongdoing. This was compounded for me by the fact that God made hell with the apparent foreknowledge that the human creation project would fail, and that billions of us were essentially born for the purpose of being tortured for eternity. With Jesus, there was a way to avoid it and be with God, but this seemed to be a solution to a problem that God, in his prescience, created in the first place. That seemed downright sick and deranged to me. Yes, I know it is said that we can't know the mind of God, but he created me with this mind that now I'm using to assess things. It all just seems grotesquely unjust and bloodthirsty, and designed to subjugate and control a population.
These are my most honest thoughts about my former faith. I would love to believe that there is an order and design to everything, and a loving benevolent deity that cares for me and mine but, in a universe where a thousand stars collide and explode every second of every day, and almost all of it is completely hostile to human existence except for certain land masses on one planet, and where our best answers come from scientific discovery, it all seems indistinguishable from a universe where that deity doesn't exist at all. Especially when there are similar deities dotted throughout the globe among other cultures (but which, remarkably, *aren't* real even though they share many traits and are likewise completely silent...)
It seems to me now that religion was our species' first shot at a cosmological explanation, but that it is completely unfruitful and obsolete except as a moral framework for certain people who need it arranged that way.
Thousands of years and nothing has changed..... planet Earth

But in the case of Jesus, he works the evidence against resurrections into something positive that aligns with the story.
Unfortunately, that merely sidesteps the argument because it doesn’t change the fact that we still have tons of evidence that people don’t rise from the dead. That means we still need extraordinary evidence for the resurrection to counter the evidence to the contrary. Saying it’s narratively supposed to be a miracle doesn’t change that.

5:57 Trent missed a big one here when he describes moral objections. Yes, people leave over things like same-sex marriage, but a bigger moral problem is that the prophets actually commanded serious crimes against humanity, like slavery and genocide. Today we regard these are atrocities, so the humanist argument is that people actually derive their morals from something other than the Bible.
To add to the comment that you have to worship something, you become like what you worship. If your god is one of love, forgiveness and hope with patience you will become like him. If your god is angry, unforgiving and believes in murdering and torturing as well as forced obedience and sees all non-believers as enemies you will have what we have in the middle east.
Mathew chapter 27, verse 52. This passage describes dead "saints" lurching out of their tombs, shuffling into town, and preaching the Gospel to horrified onlookers. So do we actually believe THAT?
