I'm glad he has a happy ending after all.. it's not easy losing everything you worked and trained for years, it can be soul and mind crushing, but he bounced back and I'm happy for him
@iamhungey12345 of course he did. No one claimed different. They just said they're happy he's better now, which he clearly is. Why are you so against giving him credit for that? It doesn't require you to just pretend he was never a dick. That isn't what he does, so why on earth would you think he expects you to? He'd tell you straight up that he brought all he got upon himself. No shit Sherlock. Any truly recovering addict will tell you the same. They don't need weird insecure keyboard warriors to remind them. Why am I wasting my time? You're clearly only like this because you're jealous that a guy described as "the biggest bust ever" is more successful and better at life than you. That must really sting.
Wow. I wasn't expecting to come away from this video *respecting* Ryan Leaf, but here we are! Dude really turned it around, from one of the deepest, steepest falls one could imagine. Fucking good for him.
And the thing with the Chargers is if they did some more research on Leaf, they probably would've known his reputation as a bad teammate went all the way back to high school. One of his old coaches admitted that he had pissed off his teammates so much he got exactly one vote for team captain.
Dear god - he finished AHEAD of RANDY MOSS in Heisman voting! I didn't realize just how far he'd actually fallen (in the end). Glad to see him recover, though.
I understand him better than most as my story is quite similar. I was a hs athlete and had the world given to me. I had an ego that was out of control and I cared about nobody but myself. I sufferer an injury which led me to lose everything. The injury i came to find out later was intentional as my own teammates were so sick of me that they designed our entire practice to injure me. Yes my own guys took me out. It was a blessing. I had to refocus. I found myself. I got 2 degrees. Went to law school. Became a politician. I help others. I truly care about people and dedicate my time to volunteering and helping. Its truly so satisfying. Happy endings can happen as long as we strive for it. Takes strength. At the time I thought getting injured and losing everything was the worst thing ever. It turned out to be the biggest blessing.
Dude's name is charismatic and this reeks of humble-bragging. Doesn't sound like your ego shrunk at all bud, you're just a douche bag in a different way now.

Thank you for mentioning how close it was on who the better prospect was between him and Peyton. People rip the Chargers as if the whole world already knew he would be a bust
In retrospect the Chargers should have known Leaf would be a bust. Sad as it ruined the legacy of Bobby Beathard, who may have been the best GM in NFL history. Glad Beathard finally made the HoF.
But yes it was close between Manning and Leaf. Alot thought Leaf had more upside. Glad that Leaf has turned his life around. If you get the chance, listen to his podcast series. It's rather fascinating.
I'm glad to see him alive and well. But damn I hate to see such blessed opportunities pissed away. That being said, his testimony is saving lives now, so his purpose was meant to be bigger than football. Keep writing your story, Mr. Leaf!
I can give you $32,000,000 reasons why JaMarcus Russell is the biggest bust in NFL history and its not even close. Six years at $61,000,000 with a fully guaranteed $32,000,000 signing bonus. Ryan Leaf's rookie contract was a paultry $13,200,00.
Anybody said JaMarcus Russell was worse must’ve not been around for this guy. No other guy went from hero to zero so rapidly. 1-15 4 yards and 6 turnovers against KC his third game. You can’t make that up.
Yup. 6'4". He was gifted with the genetics of a superstar. He was born with the talent. He didn't earn a damn thing and it showed in his immaturity. He got what he deserved.
It should've been painfully clear to the Chargers that he wouldn't ever be an NFL QB. He had more arm talent than any QB I've ever seen play the game, but the dude had nothing going on upstairs and just didn't gaf. He was lazy and had achieved everything he wanted to in life, the second he became the #1 pick. There was nothing left to work for.
I remember that game against the Raiders. Nolan Harris the defensive end split Ryan Leaf's chin open on a vicious hit. None of the Chargers Oline ran to his defense. It was Crazy the Raiders players showed more concern than the Chargers players on the field. It was a surreal game. The Chargers literally imploded on the field and on the sidelines. That's how toxic the relationship was.
Chargers brought it on themselves by ignoring the signs from doctors that he was ill suited to be an NFL quarterback. They have up a lot to move up 1 spot in the draft. Could have done nothing and taken Randy Moss.
Chargers didn't draft #1 that year. Leaf was taken after Manning. The Chargers only swapped #2 and #3 picks with Arizona. This was of course a mistake, as was not drafting Moss (or Charles Woodson, or Alan Faneca - Steeler guard, and probably the best G in the NFL for a decade).
I never really bought into Manziel being in that conversation. Dude was picked the 20s, so people were already seeing the red flags with him before he ever came into the league
@@bigbearkat2010 if you looking at it in draft numbers perspective then yeah i see what your saying, however throughout college he was commonly referred by many different league QB coaches as one of the best QB's they have ever seen, looking at it from talent/potential wasted he is definitely up there with Russell and Leaf imo.
I’ll never understand Trey Lance. Three years at a FCS school where he passed for 2,700 yards - and he goes in the 1st round of the draft. Now, he has already crashed and burned in the NFL. Great pick SF!
Ryan Leaf is the biggest bust in NFL history, so he only played 4 seasons before he retired. He threw more interceptions than touchdowns through his career.
Leaf is clearly the biggest bust of all-time. People thought he was in the conversation with Peyton Manning then went on to have the career he did. Love his redemption & happy he got the help he needed to deal with his actions & addiction
Leaf was arrogant because he played his highschool and college football in northern Yankee country, and in a weak football conference,he never would have had success in the toughest conference in the nation, the SEC
He’s definitely not the biggest bust anymore not after what the NFL has produced since, This unnecessary hate towards his football career has been way overblown.
Players, coaches & owners can & will at times become distracted (blinded) by hype it’s really an odd thing because I was merely a kid at this time & even I knew Peyton was far more fundamentally sound & just an all around better choice & Leaf wasn’t ready..
Even though Ryan Leaf did eventually turn his life around after going through a lot of shit, much of it his own making, he, and many other infamous busts, show there is a dark side to high school football in which these toxic cesspools are creating massively overinflated egos to dangerous levels
Being the best on the field in GREAT FALLS MONTANA is not anything to brag about 😂😂 I say this as someone from Montana that went to school with 2 future NFLers. I get why he got to play in college but it shouldn't have given him that much confidence.
This misses the real problem. Biggest problem for him was his underlying bipolar disorder that had not been treated. Drugs are disabling but often the real elephant in the room is untreated mental illness.
I never made this connection before, but I believe that Leaf was an even more immature version of Jeff George when he came out of college. Both were talented, but they had poor attitudes.
I think that distinction should really go to JaMarcus Russell. Leaf had all the talent, juat let the fame get to his head, same with Manziel. I think had both stayed more grounded and had better influences and people around them giving sound advice, they could have succeeded. Russell for all his talent, didn't have the work ethic and it showed with his weight. Not making an excuse for either Leaf or Manziel but their upside, in my opinion, was alot better given the right advice.
Tebow has got to be in the top 5, right? Most of the other's didn't even try. Tebow tried really hard and has the worst pass completion percentage in league history. Both Leaf and Russell had a better passing %
Idk how people can say anyone is a “Bust” ???? If you can make it to the nfl which is basically every little boy who grows up in America dreams at some point to be a nfl player ! If you can get drafted , or sign a contract in the nfl then your not a bust ! Obviously!
I'm sure he's probably tired of it by now. I think it's time to let him live in peace. Leave Ryan leaf alone. It's time to pick on Zach Wilson as he's a bust not just on the field but off the field too. He's just a horrible person.
I'm glad he has a happy ending after all.. it's not easy losing everything you worked and trained for years, it can be soul and mind crushing, but he bounced back and I'm happy for him
He was a bully, he deserved everything that came to him
You made it sound like he got screwed by unfortunate circumstances like an accident or something. In truth, he did this to himself.
@iamhungey12345 of course he did. No one claimed different. They just said they're happy he's better now, which he clearly is.

Never judge a man on how far he has fallen, but only on how far he has risen. Proud of you RL, ignore the detractors
I’m glad he’s doing better.
At least Leaf was serious about the game. Jamarcus Russell didn’t even care about his weight😂
JR had addiction issues and was going through a ton of personal shit at the time

@@ebmax55Did you watch this video? Are you human? We all go through issues in life, and Leaf himself had addiction issues. Excuses man, just excuses.

Agree 💯 LEAF biggest BUST in NFL history 🔥💪🔥
Idk I’d still label Jamarcus Russell as the biggest draft bust of all time
Instead of talking about superbowls, hes talking about drug addiction

It’s possible that Jamarcus Russell and maybe Johnny Manziel could be worse. All 3 have great arguments

Leaf had toxic behavioral issues that bumped him to the top😂
Zach Wilson and Trey Lance-hold my beer
I’ll never understand Trey Lance. Three years at a FCS school where he passed for 2,700 yards - and he goes in the 1st round of the draft. Now, he has already crashed and burned in the NFL. Great pick SF!
God can use anyone no matter what u done he can use your mistakes for his glory
Him retiring before the Seattle training camp started was probably the 1st time ever that was self aware.
The biggest bust in the NFL was Jamarcus Russell.
Zach Wilson has taken over. Leaf can rest easy
Ryan Leaf is the biggest bust in NFL history, so he only played 4 seasons before he retired. He threw more interceptions than touchdowns through his career.
he still ended up a millionaire. So at least there’s that.

"God doesn't think He's Ryan Leaf" ??? That is the dumbest quote I've heard.
Guess Ryan never turned over a new Leaf.
Trey Lance has entered the chat
TheScore: 8:44-8:51....
Ryan: (to TheScore) 0:19/6:25
There’s still a big difference between Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf
Remember always that Luck is in charge. You can be talented, prepared, disciplined; and still fail. You can do nothing virtuous and win
Shouldn’t the teams face more scrutiny than the players? I mean Leaf took Washington St. to the rose bowl that is huuuuuuuge
Yeah, I think Ryan’s greatest talent, is his ability to be self reflective.

Sorry, Jamarcus Russell was much bigger of a bust than Leaf.
But Jamarcus Russel was ok (relatively) in 2008
I would say leaf is because coming into the draft people thought he was better than peyton manning
Yep
In fairness, Jamarcus was going through a ton of shit off the field.
As a Raiders fan I agree with you guy 🤦🏿♂️
Leaf had the talent and the skills. He just couldn't get his head out of his ass.
Tony Mandarich. And anybody the Jets draft.

Right. I made that comparison too a couple days ago. Jeff george was just a more successful version of ryan leaf.
Glad he turned over a new leaf.
Imagine if the colts drafted him
I’d like to know whatever happened to former Chargers quarterback Stan Humphries the only quarterback to lead that team to a superbowl
Colts dodge a bullet. 😂😂😂
I thought he was hockey player …..😅

Manziel?

Everything being equal, Manning was the pick due to his Father. Leaf seems like a Trailer kid.
This shows how the draft is pure luck. On the flip side, 3rd string Brock Purdy was taken last overall at 262

Jamarcus Russell is a bigger bust
Remember that Zach Wilson actually has worst stats
He doesn’t. I’m a bills fan, he really doesn’t
Yeah I looked it up on PFR they’re really not even worth comparing 😂 but Wilson’s are slightly better
It was enjoyable watching him falter through his career. Not enough teammates whupped his ass and it showed
johnny football ??
Leaf was drafted #2... They thought he was better than Manning. Manziel wasnt even supposed to go in the 1st.
