Ryan Leaf stared into the abyss. But it didn't swallow him whole. He kept staring into and through that abyss until he could start to see some light. He made his way through it out into the sunlight and he's redeemed his mind and his soul. Ryan Leaf's story at first appears as a story of failure, but Ryan Leaf's story is actually a success story.
He was a bad draft pick, never should’ve been drafted 1st, but that was Al Davis for ya. Busts actually have the talent, but fail to live up to it- Russell never had the talent which is why it was just a bad draft pick. No different than drafting a 10 year old 1st- not a bust, just a baaad pick.
I like Ryan Leaf. Doesnt mean a person is a bust in the sports they are in, they r bust in other areas of life. Sometimes life is like that n u move on

I was playing golf at Torrey Pines Golf Course when he was the number one pick of the Charges. He hit into our group on the first hole on the north course a par 5. I waited for him to say what the fk are doing when I recognize who it was. He apologized and I responded I hope you’re a better quarterback than golfer. I guess he wasn’t. 😢😢😢
What I hate most about this argument is that everyone assumes Ryan and Peyton would have had the exact same career arc even if they went to different teams. We might not be talking about Peyton the same way we do today if he instead went to SD.
Was SD that bad for young QBs? Drew Brees quickly followed and Phillip Rivers after him. I mean it's not like SD was the Jets or Browns in terms of habitually destroying the futures of new QBs.
His only credential is being the biggest bust of all time. And he won't let us forget it. As hard as we all try to forget Ryan Leaf, he just won't let us forget his bust status. I wish there was a bigger bust, so he would stop claiming this status.
@@joenobody5631 then you don’t understand. If a long-snapper is drafted #1 he’s not a bust- just a HORRIBLE pick, same thing as Russell. He never had the talent to be drafted #1. All busts actually have the talent which is why they’re able to be considered busts in the first place.
Dudes been through the wringer….let it go……there have been soooo many busts in the nfl……having said that….i lived in San Diego at the time…….and it was a train wreck…..
Honestly happy for him and he is a legitimately great dude. However I am getting tired of him repeatedly sharing this story every single time he is on one of these shows.
Nobody would remember Ryan Leaf if he wasn't in the Peyton Manning draft. Best of luck to him, but let's pump the brakes on the working class hero angle.
Ryan Leaf can have his bust. I personally would choose Tony Mandarich over him. But absolutely no: Michael Jordan was not the greatest basketball player of all time. I would make him first team tho.
I never get this one because Mandarich got back on the field and had a good career by any standard, other than being such a high draft pick. If he'd been a 3rd rounder, they'd make a movie out of his comeback.

The talks Ryan Leaf gives are invaluable- and the redemption story will be his legacy. Bust in football but not in life. God Bless!
His criminal record says otherwise
@@frank5503Its called redemption for a reason ☝️🤓
Love RL. Dude is a straight shooter and has been through it.
Everyone deserves a second chance in this life.

Well said.
Ryan might be my favorite NFL analyst currently
I like him lately too!
Jarmarcus Russell is 100% the biggest bust in NFL history
He was a bad draft pick, never should’ve been drafted 1st, but that was Al Davis for ya.
Busts actually have the talent, but fail to live up to it- Russell never had the talent which is why it was just a bad draft pick. No different than drafting a 10 year old 1st- not a bust, just a baaad pick.
Leaf is a HOF when compared to Russell
If you're going by mass it's not even close
@@InUteroKDC Dude you forgot the Russel hype obviously.
Cade McNown
What a character Ryan leaf is... props!
Caleb Williams soon to take the award for biggest NFL bust of all time.
He needs to write a book about taking accountability and responsibility for your life
Born and raised in SD as a die hard chargers fan…that said, you killed it hosting buddy
I really like Ryan Leaf!! I’m happy for him👍🏽
I would argue Jamarcus Russell was the biggest bust mainly just due to how physically gifted he was and he didn’t even try just pissed it all away.
100%+
That’s the wrong narrative. It’s not that JR didn’t try, he did but he was clinically unwell and didn’t get the proper treatment needed to get better.
@@SiDung-qg7rnBeing clinically unwell might be the reason he didn't try, but don't lie and say he did try. That's utter nonsense.

Any time I see a Ryan Leaf guest hosting spot, I instantly click. Dude has quietly become one of my favorite guys to listen to in the industry
S-Tier redemption arc. Takes balls to live through this publicly. Big big ups
It's staggering how unlikable he was 20 years ago compared with how likable he is now
Jamarcus Russell, Andre Ware, Akili Smith, Heath Shuler among others. He s got PLENTY of company

Good to see Ryan doing well!
I’m glad Ryan Leaf turned his life around. Happy for him and I really like his analysis of football.
Congratulations Ryan!!!
I love how Ryan has embraced the mistakes he's made in the past and moved on. I really enjoy him as an analyst.
What I hate most about this argument is that everyone assumes Ryan and Peyton would have had the exact same career arc even if they went to different teams. We might not be talking about Peyton the same way we do today if he instead went to SD.
Yeah we would
Peyton was always better than Leaf. Peyton had a bad rookie year, he didn't implode and always consistently improved
Was SD that bad for young QBs? Drew Brees quickly followed and Phillip Rivers after him. I mean it's not like SD was the Jets or Browns in terms of habitually destroying the futures of new QBs.
making a career out of being the biggest tool in the nfl is amazing and a God Bless America moment.

I’m a husky fan….his last year in wsu was epic though…..
Oh wow college, so impressive
You lost me at “Nick Wright”
That situation happened in the NHL when Alexandre Daigle went first and Chris Pronger went second.
Johnny Manziel is the biggest bust in NFL history. Dude spent more time partying than on the field.
He had 14 more interceptions in 4 less games than Russell😂
Jamarcus Russell wasn’t a bust- he was a HORRIBLE draft pick. He should’ve never been drafted that high.
"Jamarcus Russell wasn't a bust"

Respect
Tony Mandrich for the Green Bay Packers
No he wasn’t, he actually had some solid years as a Guard for the colts. Do some homework
I met Ryan a long time ago at an apple Cup, and he was a pleasure. Sims is a douche!!
Vegas baby
Leaf just wants to not be forgotten 😂😂
I don't need Ryan Leaf to confess to being a bust. Chargers fans would rather forget it.
Leaf looks better now than in his 20’s
Russell and Schuler heath brutal

Sorry, Ryan Leaf. Johnny Manzeil and Jamarcus Russell have surpassed you as being bigger busts.
Naw... Jamarcus Russell and Johnny Football gotta be in the running as well.
JaMarcus Russell is worse than Ryan Leaf.
Uumm JaMarcus Russell is up their too.
That thumb nail ain’t lying.
Tim Couch was a VERY, VERY good QB for a few seasons, but on an atrociously bad team.
Sure, he was a big one -- but I think Jarmarcus Russell holds the title.
Biggest bust to biggest recovery- great to see. :)
1. You wore Steve Pelluer’s number.,
2. Steve Pelluer is the suckiest QB that ever sucked. (Gary Hogeboom is a close 2nd.)
