@@yukiko_5051 I'd disagree. Whilst you can get cheaper alternatives from unknown brands and even mainstream shops like Decathlon, you'll struggle to find the same level of support and parts when the bike gets more than a few years old. There are people using and servicing their decade(s) old Bromptons. I think that's where the value is.
That's a great event - would like to film that one again - we covered it back in 2008, I think. Here you go if you fancy watching it - ua-cam.com/video/kpmlJAOzCUA/v-deo.html
I have had my Brompton since 3 months before the pandemic hit. It was invaluable as the means to my exercise/recreation during lockdown. Now, with each passing day of riding the Brompton, it seems more and more of a good deal. My only real gripe is that keeping it in tyres is at LEAST four times (4×) as expensive as for a bike with full-sized wheels.
Tyres? I’d just got to work one day on mine and the back wheel went bang. The brakes had worn through the rim. I was commuting about 8 miles a day for 2 years on it (bike -train-bike). That bike (bought in 1996) was stolen in London last year but I have bought a new one. They use better quality components nowadays - lights, brakes, tyres and rims.
In Norway they for years had a Contest, rolling a tracked van down a hill, and then sailing out to ring a bell on a pole in a lake below the former version of The Holmenkollen Skijump in Oslo! It was also very funny and a rather useless exercise. I myself own a former top and now extra light, 2019 Superlight Brompton, presently just over 9 kilo, with mudguards, so I do know it is a "horrible bike" to actually ride, as a bike. Its only good side is the smal size and low weight when folded. Finn. Denmark
@Britclip the organiser didn't made it mandatory due to the hot and humid weather, as long no sport attire. Here is the safety briefing ua-cam.com/video/ZBlMbcBUaEQ/v-deo.html
I don't see the point. Why not just ride a normal road or cross bike? Is it that you can fit them in a boot of a car? I have a people carrier car (Toyota Noah/Voxy) and my road bike fits in the back, and it will fit in the back of taxis if I remove a wheel. I can take my road bike on Japanese bullet trains if I put it in a bag.
You can put 3 of these inside the trunk of the average car. And you can take them with you into the shop instead leaving it locked outside. You can just get a storage bag and sling the whole thing on your shoulder. It also has a trolley mode where you can attach a basket and use it like a shopping cart) Google "travelling with Brompton", people take these on airplanes and they fit in the overhead bin.. These can fold within seconds, so you can jump on a bus, use it for a mile or two, and then onto another bus, and then with you at the destination. It's for people who practice true multimodal transport.
2:38 “standard must me maintained” this is one of the most British line I have heard
Absolutely spiffing, old chaps!
Requiring a jacket and tie is truly what makes this work! lol
Brilliant. I'd love to have a Brompton, but to be able to afford one I'd have to have a job that required a suit and tie.
Just get a Dahon and wear your blue collar 😂
Yep, Bromptons are like Bentley bike prices
Brompton are a prestige yet shitty bike with low tier components. Unless you have money to burn, it's not worth it to buy one

The jackets are a great touch!
They are aren’t they.
Very impressive folding bike race,we are enjoyed thanks for sharing 👌
Appreciate your feedback, motivates us to cover more of these unusual events that we feel are worth bringing to a wider audience.
brompton folding bike world championship? I got to see this! wasn't disappointed. :p
Fun, old-timey bicycles with old-timey 480p video resolution.
Outstanding , we are the Brompton team😊😊😊
I love that you have to wear a suit and tie. 😂 Very good this is.
had a single day trip on one of these that I was loaned, but the memory is sweet. :) British style as always! Thanks!
The guy in a kilt!!! Oh this is brilliant
Not really a fan of the Brompton but this looked like a lot of fun
Couldn’t afford one even if you were a fan lol
I expected to see John Cleese, Eric Idle, or Rowan Atkinson in the crowd.
One of those people riding into the finish looked like Rowan Atkinson!
It does indeed start out looking like the twit of the year show
2:58 wow Louie CK was there 😅
I did this in 2019 on my Brommie, great fun!
im jealous 🥲
Crazy brits, it's awesome
That was fun. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I remember when Eddy Merckx won this event in '72... what an amazing ride it was!!
I remember Big Mig turning up to one of the early events. Dunno if he won tho'.
Winning an event more than thirty years before it started requires mystical powers !
@@hb1338 Truly shows how good Merckx really was.
Andrew Ritchie started Brompton bikes in 1995 in London…Eddie Merx as I recall did not ride and win on a Brompton in 1972…
1972..???? Would love to see the news clipping of that!
;) i was hoping they'd have to transport a briefcase and prove they had a working umbrella with them ;)
Great video. Thanks.
This must be so much fun
You Betcha.
This looks like such fun
It is.
Brampton riders consider Champagne and caviar as doping
Love it, I raced my penny farthing with vintage attire in Tasmania Australia for the National Championships in 2020 - just as quirky 😜

amazing brompton
A pinky blinders outfit would be cool. 😂
GCN did a video about stovepipe hats. They're actually super aero. Pogacar is getting one.
Got to race a borrowed Brompie on the Richmond VA USA world champs circuit, the year that Sagan won his first. Great memories.
Great fun aren't they.
Definately an event to have a defibrillator or two at I think!
Haha love this race
Can anyone guess what might be the average speed of the bicycles here in this race ?
I will show this video to people who want to know what British culture is like

I had a Brompton. I am a triathlete. I was thinking of organizing a Brompton Duathlon.
Go for it Edward.
@@Britclip , but should people have to run in suit jacket and tie?

This is so stupid and i love it, i need to stop racing road bikes and get a brompton. I think ive been doing this bike thing all wrong.

You can take a folded Brompton onto crowded underground trains and buses during rush hour in NYC. Something you can't do with most bikes.
