Back when I was 18 I used to go to an observatory at night to look at the stars, nebulae, galaxies etc. It was a ways out of town and up a winding mountain road. One night i came upon a car stopped with the hazards on. Being a pretty good mechanic, i had a habit of helping people with car trouble so I was already focused on that when I stopped and got out. It was at that point I noticed some debris had clearly been drug into the road to block the on-comming lane with the "broke down car" blocking my lane. It would be nearly impossible for me to turn around on that narrow mountain road. A lady steps out of the drivers side of the car and I ask if she needs help. Right then a man comes out of the treeline above the road to my left. He looks at me, his expression changed from somewhat menacing to sorta neutral. "Naw man, we're okay." He gets in the car and pulls it forward so I can drive around. Now, they may have just been cutting brush, in the dark, using a small car. Or they were setting a trap for someone and i wasn't on the menu. But I never forgot the way he startled me and particularly the facial expression he had when i first saw him, before it changed. There were no cell phones in those days and no pay phones on that long dark road either. When i came back down the mountain later, they were gone, the brush was on the side of the road. I got chills as I passed by.
Definitely. I would love to hear an incident in which he used deadly force from his own point of view. Is he not legally able to or is it a UA-cam thing?

I appreciate a gun channel that talks about the validity of a good old 10/22 and Beretta 92 and not some high end custom piece that may be out of reach of the average gun owner.
@@coolguy2475 a lot of really good deer rounds need faster, 1/8 is a good twist, 1/9 if you're only using up to 69gr lead core ammo, you dont loose much practical accuracy going faster on the twist, but you do lose a lot of practical accuraccy by going too slow. Also 1/12 twist barrels aren't nearly as common as 1/8 and 1/7 barrels are, and usually are more expensive for either being a "clone" barrel, or a target barrel that takes advantage of the the slight increase in accuracy for varmint/bench shooting where you're only using light bullets and are trying to squeeze the maximal amount of accuracy form then.
@Rocky Dog it's not "indoctrination," it's using what you're practiced at, as Paul has said every time. He's quite clear that the primary reason he uses them is because he is extremely familiar with and skilled at their use.

Lesson I learned long ago hunting deer on state land. Yeah I might be deer hunting with a shotgun and with the loads used have been known to be top notch fir defense. But when somebody is messing with you their eyes are glued to that long gun, they don't notice the 4" 357 coming out of the jacket pocket and going to a low ready. Me being right handed and preffering it to shoot I screw with alot of people that may not know me well enough, they think I'm left handed until I shoot because I've taught myself through instinct to always carry my long gun by the receiver in my left hand incase I need to get to my pistol. Never liked slinging a rifle or shotgun, seems like every time you see something worth shooting the guns in an impossible place to get to it without being noticed.
Paul, I need to speak to you. Any time you say, " I could bore you for hours with anecdotes," DO SO. Not one avid viewer of your videos would mind. Great post and thanks for the great idea. I already finished the video but I deem it's not too late to go pour a rocks glass full of rye. After all, there are hundreds more PH videos and I haven't seen ALL of them...yet.
Over the years I've somehow gotten the idea that Colt was the first company to jump on with this concept, chambering their SAA (Originally in .45 Colt) for the .44-40, in order to be able to use the same ammo as the '73 Winchester rifle. So this idea has been around since before smokeless powder. Some ideas stand the test of time, it seems. Another great video, Paul!
I use the .375 H&H with my Glock 27 in .40 S&W and Ruger 10/22 Charger in my backpack I call it the “kill any living thing on Earth hunting combo”. Lol.
For anyone asking to hear all his anecdotes, you have to realise two things: 1. That's not the kind of thing he does 2. These things happen (I figure) less frequently than how "often" he tells us about them, therefore if we knew all of them, there'd be nothing "new" left
Also, he clearly prefers to deliver his anecdotes within a relevant context to illustrate a point, as opposed to simply telling them to flaunt badassery. And that is why he's awesome.
Please! Make a video titled: "Boring you for a couple of hours with anecdotes". We demand it!!! Paul, you're the best storyteller in the history of the art!
So about eight years ago, myself, my two brothers and father drew out for archery deer. In the state that we live in, if you have a concealed weapons permit, you can carry a handgun while archery hunting, and since none of us had one, we only had bows. So we had a fairly successful hunt, but there was a moment when we were hunting a spot that we perceived as pretty far from anything, and we were for the most part alone in the woods. Well, when we came out of the area and moved on, my older brother who was 17 at the time, told my father that he'd seen people moving around, not wearing camo, not carrying bows, etc. it wasn't maybe a week later, that we were at the local gun shop and there was a big hubbub, turns out that the area that we were hunting was a "farm" where some less than reputable people were growing some less than legal substances, and they shot and killed someone who was hunting in the area. Anymore, I don't walk away from the truck without at least a reload for my rifle and one for my handgun.
"Let me tell you an anecdote" Me: ooh, this is gonna be good! I would totally watch an hour plus long video of nothing but Paul telling anecdotes and the lessons he took away from them.
Paul, please consider this. I would also like a video directed towards the daughters many of us have. I’ve already lost one daughter and don’t want anymore, and I don’t want anyone else to go through this. I believe Paul can make a great informational video for self protection and awareness. Many young ladies are oblivious to their surroundings and naive about the crazies in the world. These anecdotes can be pure gold. Please think about it and maybe bring in a lady to demonstrate how to be aware and prepared. Not all women are attacked with guns, my oldest daughter was stabbed while at work during a robbery at noon. I don’t think she was aware that a 21yo would be hiding a knife in his sleeve. Some people would say I should’ve bought her a gun,..I did and she wanted nothing to do with it and would never have carried it. The younger generation are brainwashed at school to think guns are only for murderers rather than tools of protection. Besides, a gun would not have helped her in that situation unless she was very observant of her surroundings. You can’t see danger coming if you are not watching for it. So... dads like me,.. . really want a good, (non-political) video that all of our daughters can watch (often forced to watch) for their own well being. My middle daughter loves the outdoors and camping and doesn’t think that she needs to carry her gun because the rabbits won’t attack her, not thinking about your store of the man ‘up to no good’ possibly on the same hiking trail that day. P.S. to get political for a moment.. she as stabbed by a 21yo whom as just released from jail on a PR bond, meaning no money bond, after the second or third time he stole a car, and had couple of drug/alcohol dui records and previously a Sex offender , yet released because of a democratic governor’s new law and now will also not be subject to death penalty also because of democrat governor. Our governor also decriminalized small amounts of meth, heroine, and some others. I think a lot more crazies are on the way. And to all the fathers out there, please take care of your daughters and teach the to protect themselves. Thank you.
Paul, I had a similar incident years ago walking my neighborhood, post operative lap surgery. A drunk cussed me and followed me 150 Yards. I never stopped walking. Just wanted to get away. He was cussing the whole time. I tried to explain, I had lived in that neighborhood all my life. Delivered papers in elementary school and practiced marching band. When he was tired of following me, he said something about causing harm to my mule. I drew my weapon, pointed it to the ground and told him to go home. I did not want a problem. Either he went home to chean his shorts, thank Jesus Christ for him not dying just then. I was not sure if he was gonna get a shotgun or play bumper tag. I decided to walk another street than that one to get my exercise.
The fact that you can go on for hours about anecdotes regarding encounters with other humans where you were happy you had a gun makes me curious why you have hours worth of anecdotes about that. I guess i’m lucky with all the hunting and hiking and general outdoors stuff I do that I’ve never had any situations like that. Keep up the good videos!

Ill make a long story short, I was camping in the mountains next to a stream in a canyon with a young lady this was some years ago at a place I was familiar with . When I heard a car door slam up the hill a little ways. Two men came toward my camp yelling that I was trespassing , at least one of them was carrying what looked like a shotgun.
"Naw man, we're okay."
He gets in the car and pulls it forward so I can drive around.
So did you have a gun on you or what bro
Paul’s humour is too subtle for most people to grasp, especially when coupled to his poker face 😊
Not judging from the comments.

I actually want to hear hours of Paul's anecdotes, I guarentee I wouldn't be bored
Yes, Paul is such a tease!
Seriously! Paul Harrell active self defense stories!? Yes please!
Agree 100%
Agreed
Definitely. I would love to hear an incident in which he used deadly force from his own point of view. Is he not legally able to or is it a UA-cam thing?
Imagine if Paul made a podcast of all of his “long, boring talks”. That would be amazing.
_Grabs popcorn._
Agreed!
Yes, a Paul Harrell podcast would be spectacular.
Outland, I hope you got some soda jugs to go with that popcorn.
Actually. As a huge Harrell fan i'd disagree. I think his candor lends itself to content video format as opposed to streaming. However, i'd love to see him as a guest a couple of times! 😊
The “Jim’s Ex-Wife” Target comment caught me off guard lol
He had a cave troll!
I’ve seen that lady out in the woods before.
She's actually my buddy Joe's ex-wife.
So, how is her cooking?
I got a good laugh out of that one.

I appreciate a gun channel that talks about the validity of a good old 10/22 and Beretta 92 and not some high end custom piece that may be out of reach of the average gun owner.
Had the privilege of going to the range and helping my first time firearm owning friend. Got home and got to watch this. It's been a good day.
Excellent. Glad you got to do that today. Awesome to help out a new shooter.
Make sure to show your friend Paul's videos.
What I like about Paul is that he's really just another guy... yeah, he's been around and has a lot of experience, but he's not pretentious.
That 20-inch AR-15 and Beretta 92FS are a GREAT combo!
yes, though I prefer an AR without a 1:12 twist rate
@@nickkastenholz3252Damn dude shooting tracers and 77gr only?
Must be nice.
That's my combo. Aero Precision M16A4 clone and a Beretta M9A1.
"What I'm doing is minding my own business!"
That's a great answer isn't it? It's an answer but also a non-answer. Too many people readily talk to strangers, giving up info that is no one else's business. Paul's stubborn methodology is a good thing to emulate....
I don't know about anyone else but I'm waiting for Paul to try and bore with his stories.

I think thats Heinlien.
double-edged sword when the non-polite actually follows through on their force, verbal, physical, or otherwise.
Bad people will always be around to do bad things... but in an armed society you eliminate helpless victims.
Looks like Ruger definitely made a winner if the 57 has so quickly become one of Paul's preferred sidearm choices.

This is only one of two channels whose videos I like before even watching. And I'm never disappointed.
Paul and Forgotten Weapons get the Thumbs Up from me before the video has finished loading.
I get so involved in the content I forget sometimes to do it after.
Had virtually the same experience in the San Isabel national forest. When I turned the individual could see in addition to a day pack I was wearing a shoulder holstered 1911. He became much more interested in wishing me well than finding out what I was doing.
Paul screaming "NO. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" had me busting a gut over here. 9:47
Same lmfao
Stranger danger, even as adults. Always educating us properly on paying attention and what scenarios to think about. Thank you Paul.
Paul, I need to speak to you. Any time you say, " I could bore you for hours with anecdotes," DO SO. Not one avid viewer of your videos would mind. Just now, when I saw you had a new video up, I poured myself a glass of whiskey to enjoy this video with. ESPECIALLY with these isolating and trying times, I implore you to "bore me" with anecdotes. Sincerely, your fanbase.

For anyone asking to hear all his anecdotes, you have to realise two things:
1. That's not the kind of thing he does
2. These things happen (I figure) less frequently than how "often" he tells us about them, therefore if we knew all of them, there'd be nothing "new" left
He could just make shit up and it’d still be worth it.
Also, he clearly prefers to deliver his anecdotes within a relevant context to illustrate a point, as opposed to simply telling them to flaunt badassery. And that is why he's awesome.
As soon as I got to the "1." I started reading it in Paul's voice.
I wonder, as I wander; if he would be willing to tell other peoples' anecdotes?
Paul is a legend.
I just discovered this channel and it's one of my favorite fun channels now! Great style and demonstrations!
Welcome. Pretty much every video is great, going back years.
You have a lot of catching up to do!
Got to love the nonchalant transition between "minding my own business" and hunting jackrabbit.
"Let me tell you an anecdote"
Me: ooh, this is gonna be good!
I would totally watch an hour plus long video of nothing but Paul telling anecdotes and the lessons he took away from them.
Agreed. Me too
At least we have the ‘why I don’t like Hyper ammo’ and ‘revolvers part 3’ just a half hour of talking
Thank you.
Very good point.
Very sorry for your loss, Dad.
" Minding my own business " . The perfect answer to nosy questions .
Great video Mr. Harrell, thanks for posting!!
The fact that you can go on for hours about anecdotes regarding encounters with other humans where you were happy you had a gun makes me curious why you have hours worth of anecdotes about that. Well as the men approach to about 30 yards and within eye sight I yelled back to hold it right the he’ll their and put my hand on my dads 38 police special . I told them this was national forest land and to stop right there and by the way my grandpas 30-30 was in arms reach.
