Transcribed Gerald’s solo... can’t believe how it seems to flow out of him with such ease and delight
I was disappointed for about 30 seconds that this wasn't Mehldau's "Song Song"--and then I realized this is a really great tune, too, and sweet, tasteful performance. Into the rotation it goes.
Ben Wendel always plays with the best drummers
no surprise he's decided to pick it up himself 🤣 im excited to see where he takes it
A double man bun group with great music.
Vet Cool 🎷🎷🎷
Beautiful writing and playing! Love the group's sound
This is amazing, so simple yet so many intriguing harmony both melodically and rhythmically
Amazing Band. Would love to see you playing in Germany...
Absolutely wonderful. Great musicianship and wonderful rapport between Wendel and Clayton.
Great musicians! Great performance! Thank you!!
I woke up this morning with this groove in mind!! Thanks Ben cuz you're such an inspiration for me.
awesome!
Love when familiar faces pop up unexpectedly on youtube!
my journey:
Snarky Puppy -> Kneebody
Genevieve Artadi -> Knower -> Jacob Mann -> Ben Wendel
BOOM. Synthesis.
I just know Jacob Mann as the guy who does those really funny jazz tutorials.
The forks off Kneebody are plentiful and amazing.
Blumin wonderful. My heart is bursting
A beautiful homage to the Ahmad Jamal Trio (w/ Israel Crosby & Vernel Fournier).
Wonderful, inspiring music. I love this band.
This quartet is so fluid!
My Favorite!
Absolutely LOVE this!

Wow Wow Wow!
Absurdly hip.
You are lovely ; )
Can anyone or any drummers tell me what you'd call this groove? I have a hard time explaining it to people when it's what I'm looking for one of my own tunes.
Poinciana groove
wow! Great! What kind of microphone on the sax? Who knows?
Possibly AEA N22 Nuvo. Not sure though.
wow!
I feel like just based on his hands alone that this drummer studied with Jim Black. Any chance I'm correct?
That repetitive bass brought to mind, at first, Sing a SONG of SONG, by Kenny Garrrett. By the way, does anyone know who is that bassist?
no chance to see you in London ?
Yes maybe in October! Date will be announced soon.
thx
+Ben Wendel - Saxophonist / Composer will you ever come to Miami?
And back to New Orleans?
Berlin is an amazing city, too! We definitely lack Ben Wendel quartets here.
interplay stemming from sympathy with the vocabulary to express it and the appropriate
song upon which to do so. dang ben. as always.
This song has been stuck in my head for so long so I decided to do a transcription on alto! Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/19aBlKW1qjg/v-deo.html

Ben Wendel, Wayne Escoffery, Anibal Rojas, Victor Goines, Joshua Redman, Jerry Bergonzi, George Gergone, Chris Potter, Courtney Pine, Ed Calle, Michael Breaker, Ernie Watts, Bob Berg, Joe Farrell, John Coltrane ... modern tenorists.
James Carter is in a league all by himself on all saxophones and clarinets - yes, all by himself creatively and dexterously.
His Dolphian-Newtonian moonlighting on flute is yet in its embryonic stage of perfection - doubtlessly on account of his time inadequacy.
Obviously, on tenor saxophone, the modern lineage can be traced back to Dr. John William Coltrane, saxophonist par excellence.
Shawn "Thunder" Wallace has opted for professorial instructing.
wyndhl eodumegwu what is this bullshit lmao, James carter is nowhere near the level of Chris potter and you’re impressed by what? His ability to make weirdass noises out of his horn and playing some mild bebop lines? Love James Carter all you want, but never say he is above anyone, especially legends like berg, brecker, potter and others...
Honestly, when I saw the thumbnail I thought for a split second that post malone was on drums
Monk is in there somewhere.
Monk is everywhere ! ;^)
This reminds me of the Incredibles soindtrack
what are the chords to this song
Db | Gbmin(maj7)/Db | Gb/Db | C/Db ...OR
Db | Dbaug | Gb/Db | Gbmin/Db
ending vamp is something like: Db | Gb/Db | Ebdim7b5/Db | C/Db
Lots of little variations throughout, but that's some of the chords I can sort of pin down. The bass/sax line later gets more outside, with like Ebadd4/Db and Dadd4/Db. I think.
I believe Mr. Wendel sells charts of his tunes; drop him a line.
Or just transcribe it yourself - you've got the chords - you'll learn so much by working out other peoples music.
@@LukeTheringMusic I actually got to talk to Ben Wendel and Aaron Parks about after seeing The Seasons band in Santa Cruz. They played this tune. I really wanted to know how they thought about this song harmonically, because the chart sold online is just melody and the ostinato bassline.
They were saying they pretty much just think "Db | something else | Db | something else" ... Which was frustrating lol. But I think that freedom is part of what gives this song its magical quality.
That said, I definitely hear the harmony you transcribed various times. It's a fun one to reharmonize too, like Db | F7b13 | Gb | A7 | Db/Ab | G9 | Gb | Gb- ... etc. Absolutely adore this tune.
@@drewedwards1748 Sounds about right, haha, love it.

Great technician...good sound but where's the heart????
Are you kidding me? Do you hear his phrasing? I'm not sure how you don't hear the soul he's playing with.
