I have a story to cheer you up: New Years Eve 1985-6, I was a bouncer at the Hollywood Palace on Vine. All the other bouncers lived out in the valley, I lived a few blocks away on Highland. My boss, Julio called me up to open up around 10am for Teena to do her sound check. I told her I sang in metal bands growing up. She rehearsed 3 songs, square biz, out on a limb, and lovergirl. She invited me up on stage to sing lovergirl again, I knew all the words. Working at the Palace I met so many famous musical acts, but Teena was THE coolest, funny, polite, humble, with an incredible voice. A super great memory for me because we sold out her concert and reached the fire codes maximum capacity. I was letting people in the side door for $100 per head, I went home with about $2000.
R.I.P. Teena Marie, when I first heard you sing you blew me away with with beautiful voice,Loved You so much, I was devastated when you passed, hurt so bad, miss you so much.
I 've loved her since I was a little girl. My first 45 record purchased with my allowance was Square Biz in 1980. I was 7yo. She is an icon in R&B music. RIP Lady T.
Me too! I was 11 when i first saw her on SoulTrain performing You Make Love Like Springtime and i fell head over heels and obsessed ever since Heart broke when she died 💔
She should’ve gotten way more recognition😢 if you heard her on the radio and not knew who she was you would’ve thought she was automatically a black woman ! she had soul raging in and out of her ! And it shouldn’t matter about race it’s all about the music and what you like and how it makes you feel 🤔Her music still is amazing to this day 2023 🎉
she got as much recognition as any black female singer did, not sure where you got that from. maybe you feel she should've gotten more recognition than black women, that's always been the standard right? btw, she didn't sound black to my ears!

So glad she did not fall for pretender RJ. Some women fall for the male bs. I love Teena for being a strong, intelligent & talented woman. May she rest in peace. Loved forever but never forgotten. Tysm for all the good songs & lyrics, lady Tee. Ty for sharing this.
I LOVE TEENA MARIE! To me she isn’t dead and shall never die.,I play her music every weekend on blast and dance to her songs! Her songs never get old And Her energy was contagious! I love how she expressed herself With all her heart and soul as she sings each song!
👉 She isn't dead to the almighty God of Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Moses and Jesus Christ either. She's merely *asleep* in death (there's a huge difference).🙏 Teena exists in almighty *YHWH/JEHOVAH* God’s perfect memory and He will awaken her and MANY others from sleep within His foretold global paradisaic new world of righteousness during the resurrection (2 Peter 3 : 13). "But that the dead are raised up, even Moses made known in the account about the thornbush,+ when he calls Jehovah ‘the God of Abraham and God of Isaac and God of Jacob.’+ 38 He is a God, not of the dead, but of the living, *for they are all living to him."* *~ LUKE 20 : 37, 38*

Thanks for putting this video up on here. I am from London. We in London followed here from the late 1970s thanks to the Rick James connection. Anyone reading this from the UK will remember her I’,m Just a Sucker your Love, Portuguese Love, Square Biz, I need you loving amongst other hits. I saw her play the Hammersmith Odeon concert in the 1980s and sadly, she was not on key when singing but to be there after years of buying her records was enough for us. Rick’s contribution was obvious over the years and I like many have never stopped playing her records. Her daughter should be as popular as Teena, for some reason it has not happed…Yet. I am waiting for that!
I'm a huge fan! I started hearing her songs in 1980! Square Biz! I was 9! In the mid 80s she exploded! Out on a Limb had me in tears! She would bring you in when you hear her sing! She was definitely our strong Ivory Queen!! RIP Teena!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊

I see so much love in these comments from all walks of life and no judgement. This is the America I love. I’m a 45 year old man visiting his mother for Christmas watching this video with tears streaming down my face as I read all this love in the comments.❤❤❤ as a white boy raised by rap and hip hop…, I feel Teena Marie validates my path to where I am
Tell Marie with one of the most phenomenal performers of the late 70s and early 80s. Her music with fuel rating, powerful, and very very soulful. I will always love and respect her talent and her achievements throughout her career.
I was fortunate and blessed to see my idol perform live in NYC in the mid 90s. She was promoting her "Passion Play" album. One truly underrated song...a duet she did with Lenny Kravitz..."Main Squeeze". I remember when she passed, friends called me to see if I was okay...like a family member had died. I loved her music since I was about 10 years old. I believe she was the first to incorporate rap in a R & B song. My nickname back in the 80's...Lady T! I'm rambling...LOL. Rest in power Teena.
I truly liked her. My favorite songs by her, are ooh lalala, and square biz! Everybody get up! When I heard of her passing, that blew me away. Rest in Peace, Miss Teena.🕊🪽
Teena was such a dope soul . Square biz will always be the anthem for me . Dont care where im at when I here that "everbody get up " better believe imma start dancing ! I always loved her music and still listen to this day . I cried the day I heard of her passing
Good God, what a force of nature our Lady T proved to be!! The unstoppable tenacity and vibrancy she exuded was captivating. Gutsy and gifted. Truly uplifting. Sadly, another one of the greats, who was taken from us way too soon. Her catalog is hefty and vast, packed with hits. So much talent was inside of such a petite physique.
Still hard to accept she's gone, one of the best R&B/funk musicians and singers ever, she really knew how to talk to men in particular with her music. A substantial loss indeed!😒
"If I was a bell" is such a beautiful song. Glad her music still puts me in the mood. May she rest in peace and always influence positive careers in music.
I loved Teena from the first spark of her voice on the radio! She was theme music for me in my 20s and on. She can NEVER be forgotten for true music lovers. She showed her soul to the world 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤🎉🎉
