Ninety minute playtime is pretty cool for what looks like a solidly heavy euro game. I loved A Feast for Odin, but this seems different enough to be worth its own slot in the library.
Picked this up and played it at Pax Unplugged. Really fantastic puzzle with a great game length. The dial mechanic is fantastic, and paired with the worker movement it's a great addition to the library.
I have this one on pre-order and cannot wait to get a chance to play it. I love the resource dials in Glass Road and am sure I will love them in this one as well. Thanks for the video, Paul.
Thanks for the video! I just finished a 2-player game. It was a low scoring endeavor. I won with a score of 22 against my opponents 17. I'm sure with more experience we'll improve our efficiency.
Reminds me a little of the 'Queen's Architect' (2015), what with the resource gathering, moving around a hexagonal landscape and the job completion. You can't beat the Glass Road Resource Dials though - they're the bomb.
Thanks for this playthrough, always great to see a boardgame in action before playing it myself. One question, at 19:54, you state that ponds, wheat fields, _and_ forests can be removed from the board to make space. However, in other tutorials, it's mentioned that while ponds and wheat fields can be freely removed, forests can only be removed using an action card. Now I'm curious to know which explanation is correct.
I may have misspoken in the video. Let me check the rulebook. "• Removing Landscape tiles (Fields, Ponds, Pastures) from your Domain. This can provide you with the space you need. You cannot remove Forests or Buildings in this way." So, my bad. It's Fields, Ponds, Pastures. Not Forests.
I was on the fence about getting this since I already own enough (8) big-box Uwe games and Glass Road is probably my 2nd least favorite among them, after Atiwa. But I saw enough positive buzz about it and saw a pre-order from a US retailer for $50 shipped and couldn’t pass it up. Got invited to a group meet to teach and play this next week, really excited to get it to the table. Thanks for uploading a playthrough, using it to make sure I know the rules well enough for the teach :).
I just pre ordered this Paul cause I always wanted to like glass road solo but I think this is just more interesting and the graphic design smashing. Will play this solo. Can’t wait!
Never looked at GlassRoad but this seems to be very fun. Really enjoyed the wheel mechanics. Might keep an eye out for this one. Thanks for another stream Paul!
I really like Glass Road but can also see the issue with guessing what your opponents are playing. This looks like a really fine reimplementation of that. Maybe slightly more complicated and I'm not sure I like the forced player interaction where you have to pay resources to go to an occupied town. But besides that I would probably love this game
Thanks Paul; finally got to watch the rest after I had to leave early on Friday. I didn't need convincing to buy this one, like I said, it's been on my watchlist for years now (because already love Glass Road). Feel like I'm buying this one as much for solo as I am for the multiplayer game. I'm expecting this to be my top Uwe game, finally dethroning Glass Road.
I wish there was a different setup for 2 player. The amount of buildings stay the same for every player count. With less players it will be less of a "race". Also I think neutral meeple wont do much in a 2 player game. Almost every turn in your game the tradesperson could be moved so if in a 2 player game the other players blocks you, you can easily move the neutral player again at the beginning of your turn.
I really like the role cards and the mind game in "Glass Road". The landscaping with tiles and variability in the buildings are also great in "Glass Road". Therefore "Glass Road" is in my top 5 favorite games. The resource wheels are fine and fairly unusual, but also a bit nerve-wracking. "Black Forest" took out the role cards with the mindgame that I liked and it changed the landscaping to a somewhat worse version and reduced the variability in the buildings. :/ So, "Black Forest" will very likely not surpass "Glass Road" for me.
I was hyped, now I am over 9000. Like Paul I didn't like the cards part in Glass Road so it was already a winner but there is more: - Damn that's fast - The flipable buildings (à la GWT) makes it a lot replayable. - Is it the most interactive Uwe's game? This last point is the only question I am left with: what about the solo mode? I've read the rules but I wonder how much you will lose with the required changes (no payment to other players, fixed number of rounds)
So there are more large buildings for variability but those are ALL small buildings (similar to Caverna where all are out each game), except here they are flippable? Or are there more in the box? What about the town tiles? Is this all of them or are there more in the box (flippable?)
The game hopefully comes with player aids for all buildings in one concise place. The buildings really needed to be in a tray so it can be passed around
Thanks for the video, Paul! I will preorder this game as soon as I can here at my FLGS. One question, isn't that the 1-3 player board for the large player buildings? I don't have the game and can't see the other side of the tile.
I too dislike the card guessing in Glass Road -- I'm playing on BGA and I just pick the cards without trying to anticipate what others might play. Maybe I'm lucky I but I did win a game that way..
I'm a little concerned about the end game trigger, it seems like you can just go round and round converting X into Y forever without any player moving their wheel to that point.
As mentioned during this video, this was a sponsored playthrough. As such, I will not be releasing a "review" video for the game specifically. I will talk more about my thoughts on it in my monthly VLOG at the end of this month.
@@GamingRulesVideos Got it. Thanks! I didnt understand what you said in the video, I thought you said that specifically in this video you wont be sharing your opinions because its sponsored, but that there would be a review later. Thanks for clarifying.
@@Duxa_ I don't generally do review videos any more. I share my honest thoughts on the game with my Patreon supporters on my Slack channel and yeah, I will talk more about it at the end of the month. In the meantime, I can tell you what the other players thought of it, and what two people who I played it with last weekend said. They all REALLY enjoyed it.
@@GamingRulesVideos Thats what I was hoping to hear! Great! Did they like Glass Road? Other than theme (and wheels) I didnt see any more connection to Glass Road than other Uwe games like Fields of Arle for example. When you do your thoughts please touch on the speed of the game, it seemed like it ended rather abruptly without anyone doing much (mostly empty boards with very few things built).
We actually spoke about how quick this game was at the end of the video. The game in the afternoon was longer and the winning score was about 10 points higher.
This looks good, Mr Rosenberg is one of my Favorite designers anyways so I am predisposed to liking his designs. Think you just cost me about 60 bucks! I thank you, wife not so much. Ha
I don't think that will be an issue because of how smart the organization is. I really like the look of how they did that, looks so easy to find what you're looking for at a glance.

Thanks Paul, game looks great, and the play through was entertaining as always. This game is on my most wants list.
Excellent playthrough and rolling teach! This is a lovely, top Uwe game. I think the depth to complexity ratio is superb 🙌
It's one of those games where every turn is a small step for a meeple, but a giant leap into analysis paralysis.
I have this one on pre-order and cannot wait to get a chance to play it. I love the resource dials in Glass Road and am sure I will love them in this one as well. Thanks for the video, Paul.

@GamingRulesVideos thanks for checking and responding. Now I'm totally ready and prepared to play the game. Thanks.
Glass Road is one of my top 5 games, so I was already excited about this. Your video made me that much more excited to eventually get myself a copy.
even though they removed the phenomenal card play of glass road?

The worker placement looks so much more fun than the Glass Road card play, I can't wait!
Great video as always Paul ! I saw it, I liked it, now I will get it
Glassroad is one of my fav Rosenberg’s. So I’m here to look how this works. Thanks
I really like Glass Road but can also see the issue with guessing what your opponents are playing. This looks like a really fine reimplementation of that. The wheel movement keeps the choices on resources interesting

I'm from the black forest, so I kinda have to buy it...helps that it looks nice and seems like a good game 😅
BTW, looks like you had the big building 'barn' the wrong way around - says 1-3 players. I assume the other side has 5 slots?
Correct. Wasn’t spotted in the practice game nor the actual game! Silly me.

Fun watch, game looks fantastic!
This looks like the Uwe to end all Uwes… I want it.
What’s the solo like? An automa or ‘beat your score’?
Count me among the people that enjoy the card selection in Glass Road. This one might be a miss for me. At least it is a try-before-I-buy for me.

They are all explained in the rulebook on a summary page.
Pre-ordered a few days ago once I got the email from Capstone - great timing! Thanks Paul!
Thanks for the video, Paul! I will preorder this game as soon as I can here at my FLGS. One question, isn't that the 1-3 player board for the large player buildings? I don't have the game and can't see the other side of the tile.
Rats. Yeah, sorry. There should have been 1 more building. I’m so used to playing 3 player games.
@@GamingRulesVideos No worries at all! Thanks for the video!
I too dislike the card guessing in Glass Road -- I'm playing on BGA and I just pick the cards without trying to anticipate what others might play. Maybe I'm lucky I but I did win a game that way..
watching English dudes play this and say porridge seems like the correct way to watch it played
Nice Rosenberg game. Looks better than Glassroad for me.
I'm a little concerned about the end game trigger, it seems like you can just go round and round converting X into Y forever without any player moving their wheel to that point.
You need provisions to move, and you get provisions by moving the wheel on the right. So I don't think that will happen.
And since I would have no idea how many points *I* had, let alone the other players...
@@GamingRulesVideos Ah, looking more closely the wheels only ever move in one direction, I think that was what I missed initially.
When should review video (with opinions) of this be expected? At release? Or sooner?

Does the game come with the Black Forest Cake?
what cake? I don't see any cake.
The cake is a lie!
I really don't like that there so many small tiles on the table with text.
The text isn’t that small compared to some other games
I don't think that will be an issue because of how smart the organization is. I really like the look of how they did that, looks so easy to find what you're looking for at a glance.
