Thanks. There were six little details about the rules that would have gone forgotten without this video : 1) being able to bump tribes despite there being free encampments, 2) The level 3 boat transport counting boat goods as ANYTHING regardless of territories neighbouring the water, 3) A single sale including up to two different types of exchanges. 4) Being able to voluntarily pay card costs as if a higher stage (without left-to-right skips), 5) No discounts for cards with a single stage cost, 6) A cave connecting territories adjacent to the same cave. The video also hammered home needing to check for various site bonuses when procreating, producing and hunting. The first two could easily be missed, at least. The rules are not a short set, but they are very easy to understand and to remember, once committed to the mind. The main rulebook is also flawless. It's a really really good one. And this video is extremely meticulous in its structure. Very finely polished. Nice.
How you can make a complex game like this feel pretty straightforward to learn is impressive. Thanks Paul for yet another great, thorough how to play video 🎉🎉
I already played it 3 times and lost miserably on easy setting :-) but i can tell u that this is a brilliant game and worth every penny. Great teach Paul.
unbelievable effort you made with this video! just watched it on my way home from my FLGS where I just bought Civolution! 😅😍 can't wait to dig into this game, it really ticks a huge amount of boxes I love in games, what a great game by Stefan Feld! 🥰👍🏼
So excited for this, as hopefully my preorder will arrive this month. Thank you for your great work! Your coverage is why I chose it as one of my three “not going to Spiel consolation buys”, with Spectacular and Ark Nova Map Pack 2 being the others. :)
As usual, you deliver in spades! I was surprised that one “reminder” was omitted at 50:00. When you ignore one of the costs, you also don’t score any points shown in the cost bar you ignored. I’ve seen more than one person tripped by that, including me! Also, at 53:19, you are not required to flip the stage 4 tile first. I’ve had a situation when it was more advantageous to me (for a few extra points) to flip stage 5 first, usually in situations when you’ve run out of time to flip stage 4 as well. Once again, Bravo!! for an A1 video.
Decent points, even if minor. Nice. The "cost ignoring" counting as turning the cost-space inactive/empty (no points scored) is clearly stated in the rulebook though, as is pretty much everything. I know that the glossary has a few errata. But the main rulebook looks ridiculously well proof-read. Paul could have reaffirmed these things. But he did voluntarily clarify a huge number of similar edge-cases that he could have chosen to leave out.
Thanks for that, yeah, when you skip one of the cost bars, you skip it completely, not just the "cost" part. And thanks for the clarification on the stage 5 tile. I didn't think that was a rule, and I did have the script and video checked by the publisher, so I thought it was ok, but interesting you got into that situation (I guess one big column of cards, so you only had 1 chip in stage 4 and 1 in stage 5)
@@GamingRulesVideos Something like that. I was ambicious and built a goal tower up to stage 5 thinking that I had enough time to flip both stage tiles. In the end, I only had enough time to flip one of them so flipping the stage 5 tile scored me 3 extra points. Wasn't enough to win though. :)
@@LarrySchneiderI was thinking about this more yesterday. If you’d built one column to stage 5, if you flipped your stage 4 tile, it would have been 14 points. Because your starting income chip is at stage 4
Hi Paul! Thanks for another fantastic How to Play video. After watching this has shot right to the top of my acquire list. I can see why you have rated it so highly this year. Look forward to the next one!
I've been wavering on the fence about this one as I have several other heavy games pre-ordered and on the horizon (Galactic Cruise, Doggerland). Watching your playthroughs and tutorials is makIng me excited for this one as well and my local game store had it in stock.
My favorite game from Essen. This video is so much better than my very basic short review i did on my channel. One day i hope to have your setup and confidence to shoot videos like this one.
@@GamingRulesVideos Thanks. I believe I learn the most from making my own mistakes and shooting videos and looking at how others film and talk on their channels such as yours. One of the best parts of board games is the community which is often really helpful. You are really pedagogical and your way of teaching games helps me in my day job as a teacher.
Paul As usual. Awesome video. One question though. You showed a card that required 1 feature to play in first and second row. Does it really require 2 of the same feature to play it in second row? Thanks Bruce
What if in the weather phase, I'm already at the penultimate place, and the card show's 2 steps down? I loose one meeple, i get back 1 step, and over again?
Am i correct that if I want to install the card @47:27 at stage 2 and I have 2 settlements, I only need to pay 1 clay? Because of the cost of stage 1 and not having 3 settlements.
Just realised that my game came completely without any settlements. So I had to use tribes face lying on the side. Any idea how to resolve this for the long term? I heard this was an issue when I picked up my game in Essen.
@@GamingRulesVideos I have to admit that I didn't check all the comments, just the time stamps of the first couple of them.😀 Anyway, your rules videos are extraordinary. I don't think any other channel comes even close to that.
At 1:07:50 an advert for the Aeon Trespass Odyssey pt V video pops up. Was this something you did, or was it me? (If I rewind it comes back at the same point)
@@krissiewright3413 That's why I thought it was noteworthy - I don't expect to see mid-roll ads. But coming back later and after a browser refresh there is no ad. Weird!
@@GamingRulesVideos I guess I should have been more explicit in my description: what I saw was what you often see at the end of a video - a large thumbnail of another video(s) from the channel, but this also had the Gaming Rules logo on-screen. It was weird.
It is a long ruleset due to extreme freedom of choice, but it's very digestible/memorable with a few plays. It's not as tough to run a Civolution (at 70 minutes) as it is to run a "40 minutes rules video" Lacerda game. Civolution actions are very very short and simple. But there are Many of them to choose from, dice allowing.
Yes - but that is because I chose to go into a lot more detail than I normally do for these games. It's actually a lot lighter than games which I've done a 45 min video for. But in this video, I explain everything.
Thank you for your support, Paul! We're so happy we got you on board for this one, great explanation!
It was an honour.

Thanks for the comment. Those things are clear in the rulebook, but there are a lot of rules :)
Thanks! Turns out I missed 2 and 5 as well.
What, 1hr 10mins….worth every second. Thanks Paul for yet another saving of my mind.

I like the idea of consolation buys. I didn't go to Essen either, I think I deserve a pressie from myself.

Perfect timing! Just recieved the game. This will help tremendously learning the game. Thank you Paul! 👍🙏

I did end up buying this ( or rather I'd forgotten I'd already pre-ordered it). Surprised how easy the mechanics actually are in practice.

Right, now I can get it off the shelf!! Thanks Paul, so clear and concise
Thanks for this! After reading the rules, this is exactly what I needed to remember and memorize everything.
Time to play now :)
Brilliant. I've already played the game, learned via your playthrough video. Thanks so much, Paul!
My game of the year! Superb tutorial video! Well done Paul.
One of the most exciting releases of the year. Thanks for the great teach!
The video or the game? :D

Just in time! My copy arriving this Friday. Thank you !!!
Great job Paul! This will help my group tremendously to tackle this game
Thanks Paul. Hoping to get a game of this in soon. Thorough how to play as ecer!

great explanation - can't wait for my copy to arrive!
Very clear rules explanation. Now I just need my copy to arrive. 😀
Can't wait to watch this in full
Outstanding tutorial video of a complex game!

Great video for a great game!
This is the teach I’ve been waiting for. Another great job!
Just curious… what’s the shortest teach time that you’ve experienced?
When I teach this in person, I do NOT teach it this way. I get people playing in 15 mins. No need to explain most things up front.

Yes. That is explained at 46:50.
Great solo experience
What if in the weather phase, I'm already at the penultimate place, and the card show's 2 steps down? I loose one meeple, i get back 1 step, and over again?
You just move it the one step.

Correct.
I need this game

It’s a known issue. Check DPG’s Facebook posts about it, or there are some BGG threads. You need to contact Pegasus.
This looks interesting, but it's making me feel like Stephan and Vital Lacerda should get a room.
34:47 You don't have to flip stage 4 first, the choice is up to you.
Yep. Someone else spotted that too. There is another comment below. Thanks!

There are no mid roll ads in this video. I will log out and check the timestamp you mentioned because I have a premium YT account.
Checked in incognito mode and no ads anywhere around that timepoint. Only at the start of the vid.

Yep. But in 10 games, I think I've looked at them once.
