That fight in the sunset is gorgeous.
JB_onfire I doubt this is how the fight will actually look. That angle seemed purely for cinematic purpose. Not for people actually playing
Alex Jamesc idk about that. the way the character was moving was if some one was controlling his movements whilst locked on to the enemy ai. Like he was pacing around to strike the enemy....
probably camera option : cinematic view, classic view
Actually they said they'll change some things, like camera angle, during duels to create proper ambience.
So yeah, duels will likely be like this.
The trailer left me positively gobsmacked (seriously, I couldn't form coherent words from start to finish). And after seeing the character use iaido (quick-draw technique), I knew Sucker Punch had really done their homework. And those leaves! Yes, this a Day One buy.
otterpoet i had goosebumps during the whole thing it was amazing
otterpoet
Well I'm pretty much sure it wasn't "Sucker Punch Studio"
But "Soccer Punch Studio" sir!
Mahdy Hah, that would be a timely name change XD
There's a really awesome 40 min interview with the devs from a few months ago where they discuss their attention to realistic and accurate flora/fauna.
Doing research on the island and its inhabitants, even the game map is loosely based on the real map of Tsushima.
Imagine it in glorious hdr
I saw a few people saying the combat look clunky and not smooth but I still have no clue what there talking about. It seemed pretty smooth to me. Maybe a few frames or certain moves but it all seemed pretty smooth to me.
Ineedmoney the enemies standing around waiting for you kill one guy at a time was kinda awkward
icant thinkofanything It resamples the reality of Samurai and that time. One vs. One without others interrupting. The combat looks that way because it's the way Samurais fought. They didn't fought like in "Nioh".
i am aware it is clunky. it lacks of fluidity. Very slow for a samurai genre. Saw the trailer many times trying to convince myself but being able to one shot enemies, or them waiting for their deaths isn t cool.
Kiba Kasuga i am not talking about the difficulty, that’s a setting, I am talking about gameplay; especially combat gameplay. It resembles very like an AC where when you kill the first opponent the rest is like one button, one shot. Take the 3 kills in the temple for example. And also the game can be beautiful but when you are not confortable with the gameplay; It doesn’t sound right in a game where killing would be necessary.
xbox and pc fanboys dude
This DEMO is the best thing I've seen in years and convinces me even more now is also the time for a HIGHLANDER game.
Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2 and Sekiro... are we in samurai heaven??? I'm really looking forward to next year
Yea, this year's E3 really satisfied my samurai/ancient Japan boner, haha :D
Deathbrewer Dude, exactly
Not quite yet....once Capcom quits playing around and gives us a new Onimusha then my friend....we will be in samurai heaven 😎
Hazel Fury I couldn't agree more
Whats everyones favourite japan/samurai style games and any recommendations? Because im hyped for this game and would like to play something to warm me up.
Mongol Invasion of Japan, they really picked a very good era for this game. Not many details on this part of history, devs have more flexibility and creativity to make this an amazing game.
Nick Wong there is a ton of detail on this part of history, you just have to do your research.
Ricky Loves You Mongol Invasions of Japan as a whole, yes there's definitely tons of it but little is known about the battle on Tsushima Island which this game is based on that.
I think he meant that this is a very unique game setting.
Japanese audio and subtitles for me just like Yakuza.
TheCosta5000 I think they said that they’d have the option to use Japanese audio.
Stanley Cole ?? Didn't I say that I'd use the Japanese audio? Im confused what you are trying to say buddy.
TheCosta5000 just bought Yakuza 0, playing before I start Yakima 6. I currently have Kiwami. Love those spiritual Shenmue games.
TheCosta5000 Sorry I thought you were wondering IF there was gonna be Japaense Audio like Yakuza
JB_onfire yakuza 0 is great
Everyone should watch a Kurosawa movie and see some of the greatest films made. Seven samurai on criterion edition is one of the best Blu-ray I own. Can’t wait for this game.
Nigel Veasey The Samurai Trilogy (Criterion) though not Kurasawa, is also dope.
Or they can watch a real master filmmaker, Kenji Mizoguchi. :) LOL. JK, Kurosawa is good too.
One trophy i'd love to see in this particular kind of game is a no HUD story completion. So it forces you to immerse completely, seeing the absolute beauty of the game, like what we had in this demo.
Thank god I own a Ps4
Ndera Maharie Thanks to Sony, you and I both buddy. 😄
zanychelly if that's the case then I'm gonna be a proud ps5 owner
+zanychelly The hell are you on about? It has not been stated once that this is a ps5, an UNannounced console, game. Idk if your trolling or just misinformed but that’s completely incorrect, thankfully bc I think everyone wants this ASAP.
+zanychelly stop spreading false information
zanychelly dont worry i will buy ps5 also
Japanese voice cast is the cherry on top of this amazing looking game. By far my favorite game of e3.
13 Assassins is a great film and a love letter to Kurosawa. The ending is insane so if Ghosts is like that, it should be very special.
That's how samurai actually fought duels. Kinda like cowboys the one who was quickest to draw won. You can't sword fight with katanas or they'll break.
HelkernVuur kenshin says otherwise
HelkernVuur -_-
Most hyped for this game.closest thing to tenchu in the last decade
Yes!!!!!
I hope there are ninjas in the game and not just samurai
Ryan Sanders Im pretty sure the main character turns intp a ninja
Close to Tenchu????? Not at all man....tenchu is ninja stealth....this is samurai action. I hope he turns into a ninja over the course of the game or I'm out
It wont turn into tenchu . because they want a samurai game with simple stealth mechanics i thin. it s not bad at all there are no other games set in feudal japan except tenchu :) so it is the closest you will get to Tenchu feeling.
I just think it's cool that it's a game set in feudal Japan made by an American developer. Doesn't happen very much.
xevious21 indeed
xevious21 I just hope whiny SJW’s don’t complain about it.
+Zombiemess872 oh they will and political correct historians
The devs did a lot of research and also have some Japanese team members, so I trust them.
mtp685 we need more African-American Africans
It is definitely the most beautiful game showcased in entire E3 this year
The spaghetti western observation thing was brilliant.
In fact spaghetti westerns are inspired by Samurai movies.
TonyRedgrave1501 yes, a fist full of dollars is a remake of yojimbo, and the magnificent 7 is a remake of 7 samurai.
the actual content of this video aside...robs head looks majestic here, like in that patrick stewart way
*SIR Patrick Stewart.
This game shows what ps4 has to offer
NO. DOWNGRADE INCOMING
That’s pretty much a given. When they start trying to make it stable in QA visuals will have to be sacrificed. But with this as the target we are going to get a pretty game regardless.
People said all these things about Horizon too. Does it have an open world? Yes. Did it get a downgrade? No. It’ll continue to be the best graphics on PS4 till this game comes out.
Pretty sure it was shown Horizons graphics were altered between 2016 & 2017, albeit not much & Geurilla denying the fact, but still..
Just checked they were indeed, plenty of comparisons videos that clearly show it. Yes it still has some of the best visuals yet to be sure but that wasn’t in question here.

Best of E3 in my opinion
Michael Sierra nope that was last of us 2
Lord Bolton without seeing a gameplay that game doesnt even exist for me
Well, the last of us 2 was expected to be great.
Ghost of tsushima was the big surprised to the PUBLIC for this e3 I believe.
nope. That goes to Resident Evil 2
i want to hear him say NANI ?!
Mr Man Omae wa mou shindeiru
Lol
Mr Man lol and BAKA
Then you have to switch the audio to japanese. Which is a good idea for a game that takes place in feudal Japan.
"everything is deliberate and purposeful" if only Ubisoft got that message when developing For Honor
Sean Dennis, I mean, they kinda did.
My god, this game looks gorgeous!
Y'all are so lucky, I'm pumped the Japanese culture is so expansive and deep rooted. This is the game for me!!
Facts 💯
This game looks amazing! Ever since I saw it for the first time last year. I knew it would be an amazing game. I love it when developers do their homework and use History for a game. Can’t wait for it to come out!😀
Looks like another masterpiece from Sony :) One thing that struck me (like a Samurai sword) was that none of the fighting games such as Tekken or Mortal Kombat have graphics anywhere near as good as this, yet they're based around fixed combat areas, not open worlds like the one we see in Ghosts of Tsushima. Fighting games with fixed combat areas ought to be able to push the graphics to this same level, or even beyond.
Japanese VA with subtitles is the way!
Feels more authentic for me.
Dave's hair looks great!
Xgamer2462 , So does Rob's hair! 😉😊😋
I love hearing people reference these films, I love 13 assassin's, Takashi Miike is an absolutely stunning director especially from the realm of visual control. He can masterful work your emotions or views with imagery in his films you may not even notice the first time you watch them.
Your hair looks awesome Dave. Your head looks awesome Rob.
The dev tool you guys described I would love for a photo mode! Characters are frozen but the weather and foliage and stuff continues to move. We need that now!
Can you imagine if the dev tool pause function is in the actual game as the pause menu :o
Am I the only person that flashed back to the MGS 3 fight with the boss during this trailor? Loved the mix of stealth and direct confrontation! Great depiction of the "one blow, one kill" philosophy of samurai combat.
I can't wait to play this
My God, this game looks beautiful. I don’t know what you two are talking about. I can’t wait to play it.
13 Assassins is a great movie for a Samurai...I hope you can get different swords of Samurais
This and Spiderman are my most anticipated game's im more hyped for them than i am so for The Last Of Us II
Jack johnson so many good exclusives
I was worried that this game could be scary in places but to see Dave so excited about this game has made me feel better about it haha
What I think of Ghost of Tsushima? A can't bloody wait for it to come out. I got so hyped yesterday after watching Sucker Punch's presentation that I went to the library and rented "Shogun" just to have something samuraish at hand. :)
MrMayki89 I watched Last Samurai after that. Lol
I think the game looks beautiful, it’s one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever seen. With that being said I’d like to see a video explaining how combat works. When taking down multiple enemies is it as simple as highlighting them and then the rest is done for you or are their trigger buttons I have to hit, or some other mechanic?
So beautiful. Can't wait to play this amazing work of art.
ps: I've always played Japanese games (or games set in Japan) in japanese when given the choice, it just feels right idk
Hero and House of Flying Daggers are two of the most beautiful and awesome movies ever made! Great music soundtracks as well! Excited for this game!
Are guys all sharing one notebook?? Hey, we all need to pinch the pennies sometimes 😂
So pumped for this! Sucker Punch has made some good overall games and have no doubt this will deliver
I hadn't heard of this game until now, and it's not the type of game I would typically play, but that looks really well done. Can't wait to play it!
seth wintergerst I encourage you to watch the announcement trailer.
Takoshi Hitsamaru I just did--thanks for the recommendation. I'm trying not to get too hyped up but this looks really cool.
Shadow of the colossus vibe on the horse
I thought the same thing
I thought it was going to be a Shadow of the Colossus game at first haha
Because hes riding a horse? Well... i guess?
MikeM16 just the cinematic look lol not because he has a horse haha
Aaron Olijnyk no
Drink every time Dave says dynamic.
Dave's hair looks good. Lush!
Not as magnificent as Rob’s.
Japanese subtitles will be more authentic but then part of me wouldn't want text on the screen in the middle of a battle or scenery it looks really beautiful and I really like the look it has now with no UI, so I'm sort of in the middle between which dialogue option.
Joe
I've watched many films with subtitles, and though I get what you're saying, it doesn't take much away from it.
But I would like the option to choose font size. I don't think I've ever played a game with that option.
Joe , yeah I see both options, tough choice.
I'm *FAR* more worried about the English subtitles also translating the Mongolian language, making you able to understand them... when it's meant to be a period where violent invaders attacked Japanese land and the majority of them *didn't* speak Japanese.
It's kind of a big part to feeling immersion. Sincerely hope the Mongol speech isn't also translated via subtitles. Otherwise I'll have no choice but to play in English.
macdaddymario Fear not, the Mongols speak their own language.
Watch the gameplay trailer Japanese version.
Best game at E3
so hyped for this game!!! cant wait to see what kind of customization will be available.
Actually, the most famous spaghetti western was inspired by Akira kurosawa's films. A fistful of dollars is basically Yojimbo but with cowboys
I really hope there will be an option to toggle off any HUD/waypoint system. I would hate to clutter up the screen with that. Especially since the background is so beautifully rendered.
That's not just how Samurai fight, it's how you'd fight with a sword as well. You wouldn't want to hurt yourself, because unlike in video games, every little wound might stop you or slow you down.
Especially in an era before antibiotics; even small cuts and scrapes could get infected and lead to death. I used to do historical European fencing, and when we sparred (with blunted steel), matches were to 2 points. A hit to the head or sword-arm was worth 2, and a good hit anywhere else was worth 1. You don't muck around; one good hit will end a swordfight either through death or incapacitation, and every attack intends to do just that.
The two things I did notice in the demo that are more cinematic than practical during fights were a) spinning around 360º, and b) not grappling or trying for a disarm while the two swords are locked together.
Craig Judd
Very true, yes. The lack of disarming might be from the fact that he is a Samurai, but I think he would though maybe do it to the people who invaded his land, but who knows? But I did like in the demo here that the fights didn't take all the same time, a right hit or slash ended the fight quickly, as it would do irl
He does grapple and disarm with a throw that last time they clash, but practically speaking when the two swords bind in a real fight you don't just push together and glare at each other; that's entirely for dramatic effect. Plus don't forget he wants Masako to stop fighting him without necessarily killing her, so disarming should be a high priority. Although I used to fight with basket-hilt swords that are somewhat easier to grab safely than a katana with its small tsuba. IRL though, when blades bind you generally grapple or wind, or if one combatant pushes too hard the other can fall back to draw them off balance.
Speaking of which, you can definitely see those first few Mongols over-committing and displaying bad posture. The first guy does a classic "false time" by leading with his body instead of the sword (you can see him swing it around behind his head as he steps forward), which is what allows Jin to quickdraw him to death. If he'd attacked in true time, Jin would have had to use his quickdraw to parry (although he might have been able to flow that into a killing strike immediately anyway).
I agree, it's good that "mook" enemies can be taken down quickly. I'm interested to see how much punishment Jin can take in return, although I saw the devs talking about how you're always a couple of hits away from death. And I also take their point that they need to make compromises for the sake of gameplay (some of the parries in the Masako duel seem pretty passive to me), since you can't really do perfectly accurate swordplay using a PS controller.
Craig Judd That being said, unconventional medicine was very, very prominent back then, natural remedies were used for all kinds of ailments.
pfft, antibiotics.
Notice that after the first kill by our hero. The 2 Mongols took a few steps back.
Spagetti western? Hmm. I would more consider it a dance. They almost dance around, it is so artistic
Thor Hjorth nope. The spaghetti western and the samurai genre imitate each other, and at times influence each other. It's common knowledge for students of film.
I really won't to know when is ghost of tsushima release date is I hope not in 2020.
I'm guessing it's gonna be released either late this year or early next year. I've seen someone guess 26th of February 2019 and I've seen someone guess the 6th of December. 2018.
Kirishi Kaze that would make me and the fans so much happy if that really did happened.
so★ How can you say it looks done? We have only seen 10 minutes of the game! Days Gone gameplay was shown 2 years ago and it is still not released
I think summer 2019 because late this year has a lot games releasing and early 2019 has days gone
It's definitely 2019 - the devs have said it too I guess.
Days Gone is Feb 22, 2019. The Last of Us 2 would be September 2019 (my guess, as they won't release Days Gone and TLOU 2 too close to each other), which would put The Ghost of Tsushima somewhere between them. My guess is April/May/June 2019. At least, this is how I'd have done it.
Been waiting for a great samurai story game. Looking forward to this one
Subbed not dubbed is a gameplay option. I love it 😂🤣😂🤣
Hello Rob.... just love that voice...
I have never seen a game like Ghost Of Tsushima. I'm very intrigued by the realism and story the game has to offer. I'll definitely be buying this day one!
Can't wait to play this, I love what I saw
the art style is so cool! this game looks absolutely beautiful! I hope that the combat isn't disappointing
Samurai study and anticipate Every move of their Opponent, And they
(Nailed that on the head) Love the look of this Game are ready.
🀄CANT WAIT🎑
I wonder if there will be skill upgrades to where you'll eventually get to play as a ninja
Mr. Carter He becomes a ninja through the story.
It's part of the overarching plot.
As a practitioner of Bushido and Kenjutsu, it's so good to see Japanese culture being respected and celebrated.
Im so hyped for this. Looks truly amazing
After not seeing a proper tenchu game since wrath of heaven I seriously hope this lives up to the massive hype I have for it.
You know, even if they do end up downgrading the graphics from the demo, this game is still going to be beautiful. It's got the composition, color scheme, and atmosphere down to a t. A lot of graphically impressive games forget how important the artistic side of visuals is. There's a reason why games like Eternal Sonata, Riven, and Super Metroid can still make your jaw drop.
They have the speaker of Roronoa Zoro for the japanese speakers !!! He is the coolest !!!
Its cool how your iPad case looks like it has paper on it... like a book from the olden days
thank you youtube recommendations :)
I'm hoping you can invest in different fighting skills. mabe not just stealth samorie but actually building a more traditional ninja. different builds for multiple play throughs.
I really like that we’re getting a game set in feudal Japan, with a realistic looking Japanese protagonist. Last time I remember that happening was Onimusha.
XiongGou Tenchu Z.
One of the few preorders I'll do
Are there any special powers of some sort or is it pretty much trying to be more realistic? Either way I am stoked to see the trailer at the game awards tonight
Breathtaking
In fact I don't know what to say. I believe ghost of Tsushima will be one of the best rated game. Am so touched and I can't wait much too long for it to come out.
How can 32 people dislike this game or any video to do with it it’s fcuking amazing
PukkaDome Gaming I know right?!
It’s 4 now 🤣🤣🤣
they have xbox
Janis S you mean they're Xbox Fanboys I have an Xbox X and I can't wait to play this game on my PS4 Pro
They don't have a PS4 or mommy bought them the wrong console.
Looks great with the hud turned off. Be interesting to see more soon.
凄く綺麗な画像。σ(゚∀゚ )オレの御先祖様は鎌倉幕府の御家人です。三浦半島中心に領地を持っていたから。懐かしい。
This and Sekiro are, personally, the top upcoming games. Combat looks satisfying, and the gameplay seems immersive.
guys is their any new demo of Last of us 2 and Death Stranding behind close door
if so plz do tell more about them too
adeel abbasi yeah they went behind closed doors and watched another 10 minutes of girls kissing
The Critigamer really because it seemed like the most memorable thing about the entire presentation I can't remember the last time the only thing I could remember about a game shown at E3 was kissing
If that's all you remember from the trailer then they've either done their job, or the problem lies with you. The gameplay trailer was one of the best I've seen in a long, long time...
i read that there was RDR2 gameplay behind closed doors.
i agree that LOU 2 visually , level design and combat looks extremely polished and i is my game of the show and this game
And i have hard time buying into straight rushed couples romantics so i couldnt careless about two lesbs doing their make believe hormo exchange
Never in my life have I been so impressed by the visuals of a game. I hope the rest of the game is good as well.
I was so ready to get a release date on this game, but there's nothing specific yet. :| I just want to smash that pre-order button!
Rob and Dave!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
Looked at this game then looked outside. This game looks more realistic.
Excited for this game. I Just hope we can get nice badass armors/outfits, because this feather pyjama is... LOL
rob looks like a turtle without a shell
I like the combat. but as a 4 year old black belt at swordsman myself I hope they make sword swings a little more realistic
Guy, by all means watch the Kurosawa movies, but please read The Musashi. THAT's a samurai story.
I've been an avid Xbox fan/player since the OG Xbox but since I first saw this game last year I need a PS4!!
get it you'll be happy
Is there any other right way to play it besides Japanese audio with English subtitles?
Bobby Coghlan of course there is, wear a belt.
I’m glad this stands apart from sekiro enough for me to pick up both samurai/ninja games are always a favorite of mine stoked to play both plus nioh 2 of course
This has got to be the most beautiful game I've ever seen
Ghost of tushima
Cyberpunk
Red dead 2
I feel spoilt
This, Sikiro and Nioh 2.......gonna be samurai'd out......bring it on!!
So when is the release date what's the most important question the release date of this game
Traditional Shinobi outfit is all I ask for.
Looks like Arkham Knight in feudal Japan. Awesome!
The Critigamer the combat the stealth takedowns, the grapple
Vaas Montenegro dont remember being able to one kill enemies on arkham games this looks like bushido blade
Lol the batman anime movie. A coincidence.
It's nothing like Arkham Knight xD
The takedowns in slomo
Hero is a beautiful movie, would definitely recommend.
