The character was a little girl abused by her biological mother who eventually got adopted by Willona. Janet proved herself as an actress of amazing depth for someone so young. So she achieved fame-- and "Fame"-- on her own merits, thank you very much. P.S.: Michael had his problems, but he was not mad.
Shouldn’t even be a competition, but Janet did have success before this show was even on. Sad part is that Janet was going through a bad time in her life this whole season.
