I've seen the Vienna Philharmonic in the Golden Hall in Vienna. I've seen Barenboim in Prague. I've seen the LSO and the LPO in London. I've seen the Magic Flute on Lake Constance. I've seen Bruckner played in St. Florian. I've seen concerts in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Kyiv. But, I have never seen, a more unassuming man, wearing simple clothes, playing a barely known instrument, with so few followers, play with such virtuosity.
I’ve a new recording of this piece and would be interested what you you like that inte if you compare.
Your artistry is otherworldly, I could add the combined comments of everyone else who has taken the time to comment on this performance.. Please record all of the BACH solo works so we may purchase them. Your interpretation is extraordinary. The breaking of chord follows the musical line perfectly. Thank you, thank you. MORE!!!!!

Die Nyckelharpa kannte ich als Instrument bisher nicht. Ein beeindruckendes, sehr schön klingendes Instrument und eine wunderbare Interpretation der Chaconne!

The first thought that comes to mind is how fabulous Bach is: his music works on any instrument. Then, as the music unfolds, the "curiosity" factor of the instrument fades away, leaving only admiration for the musician's musicality. Beautiful thing.
This is an extraordinary interpretation! I am floored by the whole setup, the consumate articulations, the whole pace, which like a journey of emotions can be seen on the face of the interpret. Plus I had never heard of this instrument before, which seems to have a lot of keys below the fretboard.
Wow it's the first time to see this musical instrument. Even better, one of the best musics in the history was perfectly played by a great musician on this instrument!
What were the years when everyone knew these instruments were common? I’m 83 years old, an ardent classical music follower, and this week has been the first I’ve heard of it.
The oldest Nyckelharpa (Key harp) found is one from the 16th century but there are depictions of them in churches that dates back even further. The reason you have never heard of it before is that A) its Swedish and while found in Norway and Denmark as well, never really spread out to Europe but there are pictures of it german dictionaries from that time. B) It was a folk music instrument and no real classical music was written for it. Sadly, high-browed historians never thought much about the history of the common folk or their music until recently. C) For some reason it started to lose in popularity. It appears it by this time was still a very simple instrument and could only play traditional songs. By the beginning of the 20th century few instrumentmakers knew how to make one. It didnt get popular again until it was pretty much redesigned to be chromatic and able to play in other keys than just C. So the Nyckelharpa might look old, but its pretty much reinvented and redesigned in the 1960s
I don't remember the last time a bach interpretation moved me this much. Thanks for sharing! I adore how full of life it is, that it is sad and playful at the same time.

This is a masterpiece that sounds equally sublime played by violin, guitar, mandolin, piano, nickelharp and I guess any instrument you could imagine, as long as it is polyphonic.....but this rendition is indeed top notch! Congratulations and many many thanks for sharing this beauty....

Tack, Torbjörn! Having grown up with Milstein's version and even in more recent (rediscovered) baroque period style on violin, I always felt Choconne was an anguished, dark thing. In your hands it sounds so much lighter and more uplifting! Brilliant. Bravo.
Staggering, incredible, amazing, astonishing, marvellous, phenomenal, breathtaking, mind-boggling and -blowing, out of this world, fabulous, fantastic!

So incredibly beautiful. This is THE most beautiful, intelligent, and sensitive interpretation I have ever heard. You are a true virtuoso. Thank you for sharing this.

303 years ago J S Bach would invited anyone on any instrument to play at his church or church hall to play his works . After all piccolo violins and post horns viols da Gamba and viola d amores were used in his First Brandenburg concertos.
I have to say, I love this amazing talent and virtousuo playing it. Just mind blowingly amazing. Thank you dear sir :) Please come to a round to Finland. I will be the fan on the premises if you will come :)
You have done well to learn almost 14 minutes by memory. Perfect! Any and all the words laid at your feet are deserved my friend. I have always wanted to learn the nyckelharpa but at ago 79 (I also play 5-string viola, Irish Bouzouki, tenor guitar, and blow my own horn with an Irish Whistle) I doubt practice time is still available for me. I do have an off the wall question regarding the items behind you. I'm a retired western boot maker (Espanola New Mexico) and I see a sewing machine and a wooden work bench that remind me of my Singer and later an Adler sewing machine and cutting table for my leather cutting. When you're not enjoying making music what do you do with the equipment behind you? Thanks for the music and thanks for an answer.
Back nine months later hoping that you had checked and added your comment of our questions, perhaps sometime next year you will have time to recheck and comment. You are still amazing on your nyckelharpa!

Schönes Instrument, dass mehr Wertschätzung gebührt. Ebenfalls ist das Stück wunderschön gespielt worden und ein genuss für die Ohren.
Un gran virtuoso 🎉

My favorite moment is literally the last second, when he looks at the camera and raises an eyebrow as if to say, " I guess that wasn't too bad...."

Helt fantastiskt framförande! Det klingar så otroligt barockt med medryckande frasering, dynamik, artikulation och klang - underbart!
Heart warming, soul lifting and inspiring sonic nourishment masterfully served on an instrument I never heard/of before.

If I didn't know any better I would swear Bach had composed this for this instrument. What an excellent interpretation!
Beautiful. Thank you for such a musical and heartfelt performance.
I've always loved the sound of the nyckelharpa. Beautiful!
Except for the clicking sound in the background.
@@robertlayzer7832 That's part of it. Kinda like saying "I'd like a bagpipe if it wasn't for those pipes."
Wonderful piece and so well played, I really enjoyed it, thank you.
