You're the most "personal" of all the other UA-camrs with similar content And I really think that is One of the things that sent you apart. Kind of makes me feel like I'm right there tagging along while watching.
Loss of "high gear" - sounds like a "fluid pressure" problem - it takes 2x the pressure to go into reverse band (which normally is a forward band moving in the opposite direction) then high forward band. I'd check the "viscosity" (feel/color) of the fluid & change the "screen" before writing it off.
So on the drivers side of the transmission (700r4) theres a governor, most likely in your case you broke the gear itself (5 dollar part on amazon), also the valve could be sticking if theres some gunk in the fluid. The governor lets you shift into 2nd gear basically, without it you only get 1st and reverse(know from experience). Also in your video you say you had second but from looking at the RPM's and speeds you're only getting first.
Randy, I don't know anything about C4s. I have a 1968 C3 that has been in a barn and my garage for the last 5 years that I am trying to get on the road. So the only input I have is to be patient, save both of them, no matter how long it takes. I know you're more in the car business than restorations but I love what you are doing with these two old beauties. Hang in there, man!

I have a 1985 too. Ive got c6 rims and near decade old tires on it, and it is not scary in the rain or on moist roads. Feels planted. Ive got a hilly and windy road by my house, and it runs 75+ all the way through. Same as my 2015 mustang and 1994 vette. its a very decent car.
Cold start issue: there is an 'extra' fuel injector in the intake - often people change the port injectors chasing this problem down, but don't change the injector that's causing the problem....look up 'cold start injector' and TPI.
Im confused why you would ever part the red one for the silver one. The silver one is WAY to far gone. Find a wrecked one for the silver, fix up the red one.

Alignment issues will make a car slip if the camber is off or wonky, as well as old tires. They could be the best tires in the world, but if they are 5-10 years old, the rubber gets hard, and will refuse to grip anymore.
My mustang exhaust got really rich smelling when I got a set of cams, headers, off road catless h pipe and a heavy tune. I’m sure it’s just fine 👍🏼 looks like a good 2k purchase
TPI engines use a cold start injector. Not uncommon for it to get stuck if its been sitting for a period of time. May be the cause of hard start when cold on the silver one. Good luck with both of them.

I remember when I was a porter for a summer at a Chevy dealer back in 85, those tuned port engines wouldn't start when new either after sitting a while. The mechanics showed us a trick. To loosen the ring holding the sparkplug wires on top of the distributor and lay it loosely on top of the connections which forced the current to jump accross the gap creating a surge of current which would allow those engines to start. Hope this hack helps.
Running to rich -Fuel pressure may be turned up way to high -bigger injectors with no tune or bigger maf I know on older ford (fox and sn95) if u put bigger injectors with no tune on a stock motor theyl run super rich (need a maf so the ecu knows what size the injectors are. Also sometimes guys will turn up the fuel pressure to 80-100 psi so the injectors are overloaded (makes a 24lb injector flow like a 42lb ) just a couple tips to check

Randy, CHECK THE A/C! In these older GM cars, the cooling fan automatically comes on whenever the A/C is on, even is it’s on very low... especially is the A/C-blower motor does not work, you won’t know that the A/C is on, but the cooling fan will still come on! Now that may NOT be the issue, and ppl (especially in Florida) will Hotwire the cooling fan due to overheating in traffic during the summer. But before you start troubleshooting the wiring, check to see that the A/C is not on!
As a C4 owner. You will learn new ways for something to always go wrong haha. These like getting into your wallet lol. As far as cold starting. I haven’t had trouble with mine 🤞

I just looked up the picture of the Vette and it looks like they put the stripe on it in the wrong way. Most people put them over the top and they put it around the edge. I guess that was the point though.
10 Corvettes later: Ok... Now we need to buy an 11th. Not that we need an 11th. But we need the rims, horn, steering column, t-tops, lights, heads, transmission, glass, door panels, and glove box to finish Vettes 1-7.
If you're having trouble getting locking lugs off, find the correct size 12 point socket (maybe 11/16 or so). When you find the right size socket, pound it on with a hammer and then use a ratchet and pipe to back off the locking lug.
Seeing those wheels makes me miss my old '89 Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo. They used the same wheel design, but smaller...so I called them mini-Vette wheels.
My first thought too, had the same issue on my 70's Camaro that got LT1 swapped, has the 4L60 gearbox. It drop the sprint that holds the plastic gear in place and so the result was the same issues as this Corvette. :D
Real test is to drain the fluid, look for metal shavings and chunks in the old fluid and filter, if it's not that bad clean the solenoid screens, get a new filter, fluid top it up and see if it's any better, if not the things been neutral bombed lmao

Had to replace the 700R4 in my 1984 vette. The bell housing bolts are damn near impossible to get to with how tight the tunnel is.

He misspoke. He meant Lafayette Louisiana. He said it earlier in the video and it has a Louisiana inspection sticker on the windshield.
Bad throttle postion sensor will make the transmission go to safe mode where you don't get high gear. I would check that again.

Real test is to drain the fluid, look for metal shavings and chunks in the old fluid and filter, if it's not that bad clean the solenoid screens, get a new filter, fluid top it up and see if it's any better, if not the things been neutral bombed lmao
