We are all so fortunate enough to live in the time of Rush. There is so much to be said, but there are just not enough words to capture the essence of Rush.
As Neil Peart used to say about Buddy Rich: The Apprentice takes the easy and makes it look difficult, while the Master takes the impossible and makes it look easy. RIP BUDDY AND NEIL ❤
I became a Rush fan in 1980 when I was 11 years old. When asked what is my all time favorite band, someday I say Rush, on other days I say Pink Floyd. Both bands were so intellectual and profound!
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
Neil was a huge reader his entire life. Alex and Geddy always say how he was absorbed in books while on tour. Three great musicians and friends their entire lives.
Seen Rush many times as I live in Toronto Canada where they formed there band many years ago. I've been listening to them since a teenager 40 years ago. Best 3 man band ever. Luv your reactions enjoy the ride. Rush is Timeless. Listen to Xanadu live from Exit Stage Left 1981 from Montreal.
They would write together and apart at the same time and place where Alex and Geddy would work on the music while Neil would work on lyrics and when one thought they were done they would exchange notes to see if anything sparked. Sometimes they got completed lyrics and then fit music to it, or have a completed piece of music and fit the lyrics in🤯THAT WAS a real special thing those three had🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎹🎤🥇🇨🇦🎼
"Natural Science" just might be the best song RUSH ever composed.! To answer one of your questions, I once heard Geddy say that all of RUSHs' songs begin as instrumentals, with Neil adding the lyrics afterwards. Keep the RUSH reactions coming! 😄☮
"wheels within wheels in a spiral array. A patent surrounded complex" some of the most imaginative lyrics I've ever heard. Gives you an image. And their musicianship is uncontestable.
"A simple kind of mirror to reflect upon our own...living in the pools they soon forget about the sea" This song has so much to it, as so many Rush songs seem to...
Neil was an avid reader on many subjects, fantasy, sci-fi, politics, environmental, etc, the diversity in his lyrics spans so many topics that are still relevant today. This is why the fans refer to him as "The Professor". Great reaction as always thx.
One of my top Rush songs for sure... I was at this show, last of 5 or so for us this tour. So glad this performance made the light of day considering what was to happen later that summer.
Fell in love with Rush in 1978, back when they weren't accepted because they made you think! 30 some odd concerts later, they still amaze me. Neil will be greatly missed, there will never be anyone like the Professor again. May he rest in peace.
A forty + year Rush fan here and veteran of 17 shows, Natural Science is in my top 5 Rush songs of all time. R.I.P. Professor Neil Peart and long live the mighty Rush. Fun reaction and review
I was at this concert, Toronto 1997, I've seen many bands live, they were never as good as their studio version an but rush? Greatest live band I've ever seen...
GREAT reaction! I was at this very show in Toronto (1997, Molson Amphitheatre), my first Rush show...and this was actually my first time hearing this song! Talk about life changing. I had never heard anything like it, and you're so correct - how can 3 guys make such an amazing sound! This show definitely made me want to get anything and everything that they did. It was the beginning of a true love affair with a band! You will never go wrong with reacting to anything these 3 do!
The thing is Rush writes a song that is always executed in a way that is always in service of the song. They don't have an ego. They don't step on each other. It's all about the song.
RUSH is amazing definitely my favorite band & one of my biggest inspirations for my music i make to try being unique. So proud to be from Toronto were Rush is from RIP Neil
Hey guys, I watch all reactions to the best Band ever and I must say I enjoy how you perceive all of this complex music and revealing lyrics. I was about to suggest this particular song, it is mind blowing. I am so certain that most of the people who follow you will ask you, like me, to check Xanadú from the Exit Stage Left 1981. You will see and hear perfection and what they do in this particular song ... no words can describe such greatness.
Great reaction guys. It’s amazing how varied their catalogue is as well. They were willing to take chances and explore different musical directions and still managed to remain relevant with amazing songs throughout their career. Dominika, since you are so enthralled with Neil’s lyrics, you should check out his books. They are quite insightful, mostly based on his travels yet are very introspective with his views on life, friendship and touring.
One of my very favourite Rush songs which they wrote in two days! Brilliant! Usually Neil would write the lyrics and Alex and Geddy would write the music then Neil would send Geddy some lyrics and then Geddy and Neil would go back and forth on the lyrics as Geddy once said they had to be something he could relate to as he was singing them. Great reaction as always. ❤
From what I know of the group, after listening to them for 40+ years, Neil would write lyrics and then Geddy & Alex would work on the music, with help from Neil. But there were some songs that started as just music. To get an idea of what Neil was reading in his early years with RUSH, just look up Ayn Rand. He attributes a lot of the songs like 2112 to her writings. She was a Russian-born (in St. Petersburg) American writer & philosopher.
"They are a force of nature", so true. Been lucky enough to see them live several times and it really is just these 3 guys making all this noise and they were soooo LOUD! Neil's lyrics (The drummer) were next level. Geddy playing bass, vocals, foot pedals and keyboards is just a genius and Alex is a seriously under rated guitarist.
This is such a hopeful song for today, and THANK YOU for doing this version, I've never seen it and it's awesome! First time watching your channel, I subscribed. Very nice.
I remember seeing this tour and it was a fantastic show!! I was so mesmerized watching Neil just stay so focused on the drums. Granted, the dude had his hands full, but his expression never seem to change. He was just in the zone! Seen Rush 7 times and was never disappointed.
This song Natural Science from Permanent Waves is spectacular in that it has ALL of the elements that make Rush so great. I don’t think they left ANYTHING out when it came to this song.🤘🖖✌️🥁🎸🎤🎹
I Love you guys so much. fun to watch. You need to watch: Rush for dinner" It is hilarious to watch these 3 guys having dinner together and being themselves!
Neil Peart is an author of several books.and a writer of poetry. Very smart and centered human. RIP sensai For Rush, it was Neil submitting lyrics and building off of that.
The two best rock bands of all time are Pink Floyd and Rush. Both were incredible live. Bands that can do it live this well are in a class of their own. Rush's output was more consistently high quality imo, and there's only three of them, while later Floyd shows needed 6+. Y'all are such a cute couple and so genuine and thoughtful. Subbed!
That was a fantastic reaction 👏!! I enjoyed watching both of you appreciate their talents and ability to be so cohesive, yet shine individually. This album is my all-time favorite, by Rush. Do yourselves a favor and listen to the album, start to finish and you will find it even more amazing. See what you think...
This is my favourite song from my favourite album, permanent waves. I love this so much and I'm so glad you have the chance to experience this masterpiece ❤
You stumbled onto One of their best…with super meta, deep lyrics. Only Peart could see the parallels between a tidal pool and the Big Bang spreading Galaxes before eventually contracting and starting all of creation over again. We are the tiny creatures with our little causes that can’t see the big picture effects of creation! And the waves just keep crashing into the shore in the end, endlessly. Peart was a self-taught intellectual giant.
About playing a song over and over. Neil mentioned Tom Sawyer as a challenge. It never got old for him because it was so difficult to play correctly every night, and said he rarely made no mistakes. It was a rare occasion where he nailed it. That’s Rush! Weird. Wonderful!
Usually Neil would pen the lyrics, and Alex and Geddy would put music to them. Typically, that was the process, but certainly not all the time. Some songs came from rehearsal jams like YYZ. If you listen to some interviews with the guys you will see how intelligent, articulate, and humble Neil was. Its one of the reasons people idolized him (which he would have hated, lol). All three guys are master musicians, but egos never got in the way - that’s why these guys worked for 40 years. Beyond the Lighted Staged is an excellent documentary you guys will have to react to eventually. Cheers!
🤗 Pay no attention to us Rush weirdos and just enjoy Rush your way! 😊 Sometimes it's all about the music. Sometimes the words because they tell a cool story. 😒 And honestly, sometimes it's just about 🎸 Alex's wicked solo. 🤔 Live Dave Gilmore's solos. 😉🥰🐰
They don't have a bad song so just pick whatever catches your eye.most of their songs have a live video to watch . I like to watch you guys react to Rush live videos cool...... My favorite band since 1975 . 3 bitchin dudes.....😊
This song is about how nature and science are intertwined so deeply. (nothing about god) As is often the case with Neil, There is almost a warning to pull our heads out of our ass and pay attention to the effect we are having on the planet. Ultimately, we will need both Science and Nature to put ourselves on the right track. Amazing lyrics from Neil, and amazing performances by all. In the top 5 of all Rush songs in my opinion. "Sensitive, open and strong"... if we could all live this way a bit more often. Great reaction!
"Science like nature, must also be tamed, with a view towards its preservation". Damn if he wasn't prescient. Science has gone off the rails in many ways and that undermines ALL science by creating a world of cynics...sigh.
If this is your first time with this song you should do the studio version first. I don’t understand reviewers that do the opposite. They omit an entire guitar solo live. I guess I can give a pass to new Rush listeners because they just don’t know. For example, the Exit Stage Left live version of Xanadu is awesome, but still, you should always do the studio version first and live to supplement that, not supplant it.
We are all so fortunate enough to live in the time of Rush. There is so much to be said, but there are just not enough words to capture the essence of Rush.
Out of 160+ songs in the Rush catalog, Natural Science is my favorite. It’s absolutely brilliant.
I would say the same .... and then some days I would say Porcupine Tree.

I agree. RUSH never did things the easy way. RIP Neil Peart!
Neil was a huge reader his entire life. Alex and Geddy always say how he was absorbed in books while on tour. Three great musicians and friends their entire lives.
Best ever!!!!!

Rush was, is, and always will be... truly magical.
I love watching your reactions! RUSH has been giving me the same joy for almost 30 years now.
They were on a different planet! Incredible!!!
"Natural Science" just might be the best song RUSH ever composed.! To answer one of your questions, I once heard Geddy say that all of RUSHs' songs begin as instrumentals, with Neil adding the lyrics afterwards. Keep the RUSH reactions coming! 😄☮

Its always a toss up between Natural Science and Xanadu as my favorite song.
Xanadu.....by a whisker

the word is MASTERFUL,,,🤘🎸🥁🎸🤘 masters at work,,,
One of my top Rush songs for sure... I was at this show, last of 5 or so for us this tour. So glad this performance made the light of day considering what was to happen later that summer.
i love you both! the joy i see from you is what this band showed the world.

Boooom!! It's always great! Thanks for sharing. 😊
PERFECT!! So glad you did this one!!
RUSH IS EPIC. I really wish you could have experienced them live in concert. Great reaction.
Watching Rush is so much better than just listening to them. You also get to see their genius at work! Thanks for the reaction!!
Great song.....Great band......Great reaction👏
I am 46 years old and been a huge Rusf fan since i was like 11 years old.
Best rock band in history. R.I.P Neil "The Professor" Peart!

Best band I ever saw live…. by a mile 👍
Three virtuoso musicians in the same band, just epic talents.
Masters of their art!

Another great reaction! And as a retired ESL teacher, you are both doing a fantastic job! Keep up the good work.
I really love how you react to the live shows. They are one the best live bands in history. It's the right way to appreciate them.
A wonderful way to hear music about life 😊
Another wonderful reaction, you guys are so fun !
The composing of the music and lyrics for the most part coincide, a natural science itself.
RUSH is amazing definitely my favorite band & one of my biggest inspirations for my music i make to try being unique. So proud to be from Toronto were Rush is from RIP Neil

El maestro de maestros Neil Peart - R.I.P.
Fun song to listen to.
I hated to take you from "420" likes...lol but I love your reactions. You genuinely appreciate the ridiculously amazing band. ❤

From the drumkit it looks this was on the Test For Echo tour, so 1996 or 97.
I thought Geddy was hitting those highs relatively well.
They said the melody would come first on guitar or piano, then build the song based on the music sound. 🎵
Your reactions are amazing 🤩! And this song is top notch❤
Great +
Marillion “the space” live at the Albert hall. I think you’ll enjoy it :)
Your wife is soooooo cute!!!!!!!!!
Thank you 😊

One of the best prog bands. RI P Neil.
You should do "Secret Touch" from the R30 tour in Frankfurt next
I still can't believe you didn't know what subdivisions was about
neil wrote the lyrics and geddy and alex put the music to it.
Guys I think you should read the lyrics with rush
My favorite Rush track? Ask me ten times and you might get 10 different answers.
Hii it would be great if you react to Two of Us by Louis Tomlinson, thank you! 🙂
The gist of the song is how nature is either trampled on or ignored by modern life and technology......I think.
Just listen to Rush first then comment bro
Remember when 'Rush' was considered Canadian wanabees. Pepperidge Farm remembers.
