About them not asking God. I don't think they can. They don't have much of clue what's going on and they figure shit as they go. Like Sera said: "We know when a soul arrives, we know when they pass divine judgement, it's our job to protect them."
It's quite clear that it's all they know. Some souls arrive in heaven, others arrive in hell and no one knows what even are the rules.
Sera's such a bitch too. In the show, Lucifer wasn't banished by God, he was banished by the elders of heaven. Meaning, mostly by Sera herself. When she says that Emily could end up fallen like Lucifer if she starts to question. She phrases it as a warning, but it's actually a threat. She's straight up telling Emily to stop questioning her, because she doesn't want to have to cast her out like she did her predecessor...
The elders of heaven are the next step up in the hierarchy, 6 angels directly bellow god

So if we go by the intro of the show, it's Sera and three other angels who banished Lucifer.
Honestly it's up in the air whether there even is God in this universe. Only time God's even mentioned (AFAIK) is in Helluva Boss pilot when BlitzØ says "I guess there is a God"....which implies that even they don't know if God is real or not (or at least some of the citizens of Hell are unsure).

General consensus seems to be that it's the same hypocrisy governing everything that happens up there. It's okay for Adam to do it because he's an angel - a high ranking one, at that. But Charlie is a demon, so any lapse in her behaviour is unacceptable.

I think the reason they don't bring up what angel dust did when alive is because the entire concept they are debating is over the idea if sinners are actually able to change and become better people regardless of their past (though there is definitely no redeeming shit like valentino). So unless angel did some truly heinous hitler level crap (I think he was a gangster in life, his most of his family was, they have a whole "spider" motif because they were in a web of crime) his past is not necessarily relevant for the trial, just the fact he is in hell and is still able to become a genuinely better person in spite of is the focus here.
you can still find an autistic person funny while at the same time not being an asshole about it. i actually enjoy when people with certain disabilities become comedians and use their disability as part of their act, it helps to ease that line of "oh i laughed at this person who is different from me so that must make me an asshole" when in fact it just allows people who are different to connect more easily and to feel more at ease with each other.
Regarding the autism headcannon, if you look at it from the perspective of the neurodiversity movement it's less problematic. That concept being that differing neurology is actually part of normal genetic variation rather than a kind of sickness. There is some evidence that, on a population scale, the disabling aspects of things like ADHD and autism are an adaptive tradeoff for the advantage of having access to the differing perspectives that happen when your brain works differently (a lot of historical trailblazers are now retrospectively considered to likely have been neurodivergent). It's just in modern day with philosophies like eugenics that the benefits of diversity aren't acknowledged so people only see the disability. Bringing it back to Lucifer, the fact that he went against the status quo of heaven, even when it cost him everything, to do what he thought was right is actually very much in line with the idea of neurodiversity and I'd say another point in favour of that theory (ftr I have both autism and ADHD)
Also worth noting that a lot of diagnostic criteria is based on things neurodivergent people do when we’re upset, or when our needs aren’t being met. That severely skews people’s perspectives of it.

I have an actually plausible theory.
What if the angels only decides who gets to go in heaven based on the person's belief on whether or not they should go to Heaven or Hell.
Case A: Adam, as he is basically a narcissist, so it makes sense why he believes he should be allowed into Heaven
Case B: Angel Dust, as he was a mobster in his human life and probably thought that he didn't deserve to go to Heaven, but rather Hell was where he thought his soul should go
I had the same theory for a while now. The problem though is that we see things that contrast this theory as well (cannot say anything more without spoiler).
Lucifer being coded as Autistic (not explicitly stated as such, but has so many traits that he’s clearly intended to be seen as such) could also be a good metaphor for how neurodivergent people are deliberately marginalized by society. He’s explicitly stated as having been a “dreamer” whose dreams were perceived as a threat to the “order.” So as punishment, he was cast out and forced to only ever see the negative results of his dreams, never the good.
That’s pretty consistent with how a lot of neurodivergent people start off as idealistic kids who very quickly end up completely broken as society repeatedly punishes them for being different, for pointing things out that society wants kept quiet, for not being able to just be like everyone else, for sticking out and not just blindly accepting what we’re told to believe.
Autistic and ADHD children in particular also tend to have an extremely strong sense of justice and can react almost violently at times when that sense of justice is violated. It’s next to impossible for an Autistic/ADHD person to just accept that “this is just how things work and you have to put up with it even though you can see how much it hurts people.” Which means, if Lucifer was Autistic and noticed other angels being hypocritical? He would not have been to keep quiet about it, and eventually they would have retaliated against him for speaking up.
It also goes well with the general theme of taking a very critical look at the concept of sin and how wrong it is to condemn someone without examining the nuances of how they ended up like that. So far in Charlie’s hotel especially, we’ve seen a lot of characters who aren’t inherently bad…but who were dealt a very bad hand at life, and ended up falling into the cracks and making bad choices as a result. They never really got a fair shot at life, because life isn’t fair. Which means a lot of the people in Hell aren’t there because they’re evil; they’re there because hey, life is complicated! As Charlie said in the first episode, everyone makes mistakes, and many people never even have a chance to make better choices because the choices of those who came before them stacked the deck against them before they were even born.
Like, should a baby who was born addicted to crack or with fetal alcohol syndrome by sent to hell for being an addict, even though it wasn’t *their* choice at all? They were quite literally born that way! Punishing them with eternal damnation because of a prohibition against drugs or whatever is effectively punishing them for someone else’s crime.
Or, how about people born in poverty? Or in an active war zone? Or any place where the basic necessities for daily survival are next to impossible to find, so it’s either “steal or die”? Or where you’re forced to kill others because if you don’t, they’ll kill you instead?
Or how about human trafficking victims? Or people who turn to prostitution because it’s the only way they can get money for food or rent? Do they really deserve eternal damnation when they made the only choice that was really available to them?
Put another way, there as a 90s movie called Ever After (loosely based on Cinderella) where the main character calls out the prince for upholding a system that basically forces the poor to become thieves and then punishes them for doing exactly what that system forced them to.
Sorry, this is turning into a bit of a rant, but I do like the idea of Lucifer being Autistic because I feel it ties in nicely with the larger critique that Vivzie’s show is making regarding the nature of morality, society’s treatment of marginalized groups, and the inherent hypocrisy of Christianity.
Another thing worth noting:
How many Autistic/neurodiverse people end up homeless or in forced treatment for substance abuse disorders.
I’ve been through a (thankfully short) “Grippy Sock Vacation” and let me tell you - I would not wish that on my worst enemy! It’s seriously like sticking a high-energy dog in a 5x7 concrete kennel with no toys, no blankets, barely any food, no time outside, no exercise, no entertainment, no interaction of any kind…and expecting them to somehow, miraculously come out of there behaving better than they did before they went in. It doesn’t fucking work!
Because it doesn’t address any of the reasons WHY that person ended up homeless, suicidal, or addicted in the first place!
That person is still going to be struggling to hold down a job, keep up with bills, manage their physical health, etc when they get out. Which means they’re going to burn out *again,* and end up right back where they started…or worse.
People don’t just end up homeless because they’re lazy. People don’t get addicted just for shits and giggles. And throwing them in an institution because we’re too stubborn to fix the *systems* that caused the problem in the first place will never actually help them to be better.

Just going to mention this once again just in case.
Personally, I do believe that everyone in the show hears the beat and the song. The reason why is because it'd be just REALLY weird to see some people randomly burst out into song with NO music around (hell, even with music that'd be weird), meaning that we would most definitely see people reacting to that (ie, weird faces, questions, etc) and I highly doubt Vivie would just leave that out (though I could be wrong).
Another thing is that reality bending exists in the universe. We see it pretty darn often (example: "Inside Every Demon Is A Rainbow" (pilot episode). Everything you see in there is actually happening).
So, even if the music DOESN'T just appear randomly, there is a chance that people could just be reality bending. (I'm about to slightly break down this particular point here. I've realized that some characters who wouldn't be powerful enough to use reality bending, still sing songs. (Ie, Carmilla))
Anyway, I highly doubt they'd break the fourth wall too in a show that's on an actual streaming service. It wouldn't fit.
One last thing too. Lillith in the first episode (or pilot) was shown influencing demons with music(?) so I'm pretty sure it's a canon part that they do hear the music considering that she literally used song to influence people in Hell.
Ok, I've grown to really like your reactions over this series and wouldn't say this is something I've noticed you even doing in the first place, so I don't mean this as an attack on you, just wanted to point to something you've said that doesn't sit right with me:
About the thing you described with how headcanoning Lucifer as autistic, is making joking about him feel weird: I feel like that's kind of the point in a way. As in, even if he wasn't autistic for one reason or another, laughing at the behaviors that correcpond to autism that people point out to support the headcannon, is still doing the same thing, just in a more roundabout way. The source of the laughter is still the same source that will get autistic people in real life laughed at, and it's perpetuating that, so I'd say it's good to analyze the jokes in that light, because maybe the behavior just isn't laugh worthy. There's a flip side to this tho: if you don't mean laughing at specifically something related to those behaviors being weird, but just joking about the character in general, I don't think that's wrong in any way, equally, regardless of if they're "actually" autistic or not
And for example the duck thing would be a combination of the two:
If the jokes you'd be referring to were nefarious jokes in the spirit of "wow, this guy is weird for this and I will make fun of him for that" then I'd probably assign that to that first category of maybe the laughter is coming from a bad place, but from what I've noticed, the jokes you were making are of the second kind, which is laughing with endearment and understanding, it's hard to define the line specifically, but it's the same place from which I'd say laughing at autistic people's behaviors isn't a problem, it just comes down to if it's malicious or not really...

Great reaction and I don’t know why, but in this one your fixation on the hearts was a lot funnier to me.
And to build on something someone else already said, the reason they don’t ask God is because in this setting God may not exist. God isn’t mentioned at all in the show’s lore or in Charlie’s “The Story of Hell.” The closest we have are the Elders of Heaven (which includes Sera) who decided to banish Lucifer and Lilith to Hell. One theory I’ve heard that I kind of like is that God in this setting may not be an active, sentient deity as per tradition, but may instead be kind of a passive force of Creation and Good/Order.

Hey Ryan, usually I don't feel the need to comment but what you said at the end really interested me. First of all, thank you for your approach to Lucifer and how to interpret character quirks in a cartoon. I understand that for many people can find themselves relating to his actions and behavior, but the right thing to do IS IN FACT not establish or canonize these behaviors as something concrete or else it will draw the wrong intended attention to the character in question and his story.
Here's where I actually think they were approaching with his character: There IS truth in the fact that he's actually both the ruler of Hell AND the ruler of Pride. It's a common conception for most people (and you should always research yourself first) of the seven deadly sins that Satan represents Wrath and Lucifer represents Pride, which is where the irony of his character lies, because he turns out to be a very anxious and self-conscious character that has trouble communicating and acting in a way that has people like him. He's desperate in the episode to have his daughter want his help and feel like he's needed for what HE can provide rather than what she actually wants from him, while struggling to keep his passion and flair visible under his lower self-esteem. It makes more sense to me to make his character under the poetry of his narrative approach rather than establish a trait that is disconnected to that intent, which is why I believe we should focus less on the mental spectrum side of things.

While the story takes big inspiration from biblical canon it's not meant to be fully accurate (if you somehow couldn't tell). To my knowledge god doesn't exist in that universe and angels aren't perfect beings, they're just the most powerful. Though this part is kind of accurate since Lucifer didn't rebel alone in some versions of the story and the deadly sins are other high-ranking angels who were defeated alongside him. I personally don't think making him autistic would ruin anything since the whole show is literally about humanizing demons (and angels) to the audience and making them relatable helps with that. We don't know anything for sure regarding this but seeing as there were other disabled characters in Helluva Boss it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
29:02 No, Emily and Charlie don't have the same voice actor. I thought they did too when I first watched, but they just found two voice actors that sound very similar probably because they wanted the two characters to kinda mirror each other.
The premise of the show is redeeming demons. What they did while living is irrelevant to Charlie's mission.
from what i understand of angels info. angel is a son of a mob boss who died in 1947 by a drug overdose he also is gay. so most likely him being in hell is a mix of being in the "family business" ( and considering he abandoned that to become a pornstar in hell he probably didnt wanna do it)being gay in a time when it was considered wrong (not saying being gay sent him to hell the "wrong" part probably lead him to do things to send him to hell, like drugs and killing himself probably had him sent straight here

this is definitely one of the better episodes, though after hearing what other reviewers and friends think of the show recently it definitely sucks because it feels like i'm enjoying something that isn't good, like i'm blind to it's flaws or something. that's just me though, i still like the show and personality enjoy it a lot.
i agree about the music, definitely think shorter songs or just one long song would be better for the show, though then we wouldn't have some of the bangers we got. perhaps the episodes should be longer and more paced out, i dunno
i don't think Lucifer is autistic but i can see why that could be possible. i also don't think that laughing because an autistic person does something quirky is rude because you aren't intentionally making fun of someone who is on the spectrum. i had a talk with my mother about my old ADHD meds and she briefly mentioned me being on the spectrum, plus my parents quite literally gave me a book on Asperger's as a child which at the time i did not comprehend lol. i'm not 100% confident i am autistic and should probably get a proper diagnosis to be sure (though i probably did when i was an early teen and simply didn't realize/remember) but regardless i know i wouldn't be upset if someone laughed because i did something "quirky"

The show is by no means bad just has it's flaws. I think people are way more critical of the show because of how hyped up it is but dont let that ruin it for you bud. There is nothing wrong with you liking the show and there nothing wrong with not seeing the flaws and just enjoying it. I would be the same way if I wasnt reacting to it.

I hope it's ok to write some of my thoughts about this episode here:
- The first song „Welcome to Heaven“ seems kind of... unnecessary? It's the shortest song by far and it doesn't really add anything. I mean yeah, we know that heaven is paradise.
- Vaggie being an angel has actually been foreshadowed in earlier episodes. For example, in episode three, Vaggie said something like: „How long are we going to watch YOUR people get killed?“ She said „your“, not „our“.
- So Vaggie killed thousands of demons and the reason for her hesitation is... a child? Has she not killed a child before from her thousands of victims? Why is a child even in hell in the first place?
- I'm sorry, but I don't understand Angel Dust's redemption. I mean sure, he changed, because we saw it, but when did that happen? They were talking about his drug storages in the hotel in epispde 5 and how he still uses them and now he's just... got better. Out of nowhere. Why did the hotel work all of a sudden if Charlie literally had a crisis in the last episode, because the hotel wasn't working?
- I also don't get Valentino's contract with Angel: If he can only do to Angel what he wants in the studio, then... why doesn't Angel just never go to the studio ever again?
- Pentious getting a r*pe joke after we saw what happened to Angel is a little bit... off.
- Emily (the smal angel) is cute and adorable, no questions about it. With that being said... I don't know her. She had like 2-3 minutes of screentime and then she got her emotional song about finding out the truth. There's no secret, that the show got some pacing issues due to its short episode count. And personally, you can really see that in Emily's part of the song. You're supposed to feel with her, but... we only saw her for 3 minutes. How are you supposed to get invested in a brand new character we only saw for a very short amount of time?
- Charlie's shocked face also confuses me. Isn't the whole purpose of her plan to redeem people who feel guilty about their actions? She can forgive Alastor for his actions but not her girlfriend? I mean yeah, it's more personal, but still.

so my theory is that god isnt a physical being. when charlie was reading her story she said the angels worshiped good. that image technically had a face. I think good IS god but not in the same sense as people see god. I think their version of god is just a force, something intangible but still existing. The angels dont have someone they can ask "What should we do".

Hey Ryan 👋 I do like your style and reactions 😅 I also know I had some "wtf" feelings when you started roasting the show from the 1st ep.... until I started seeing the over the top responses some others gave you.
That's not cool. So what if you're not a "I love musicals" guy. So what if some if the aesthetics and character designs leave you mind boggled and laughing. So what if you obviously had some kind of traumatic experience in your past involving hearts ❤🤔😒😏🫡.... You're reacting to a show for us you wouldn't have normally watched, AND you're exhausting yourself listening to the complaints and trying your best to factor them into your reactions. Also yeah, it is weird that Adam can swear all he wants but Charlie can't. But that's the point, it's supposed to be weird, it's highlighting how Heaven is very hypocritical and nepotistic, Adam is given more freedom to do what he wants because of his status, while Charlie is looked down upon for being hellborn and discriminated against. Heaven does not apply their rules consistently, a clear indicator of a corrupt and despotic institution.

As someone who's been fired from several jobs and thrown into the depths of depression due to feeling like a failure before finally being diagnosed, I feel like autistic Lucifer is a pretty relatable character, even with his implications in lore (at least, in Hazbin lore). As for the "now you can't laugh at the ducks anymore" concern, I would still personally laugh at the ducks. It's clearly a coping mechanism or hyperfixation that got out of control to an unhealthy level. Something even Lucifer seems to understand to some degree as even he thinks his "fire breathing backflipping rubber duck" is silly. I feel like it's ok to laugh at someone's mental condition if they themselves express that they should know better or are implied that they have the capacity to know better, in addition to measuring the actual detrimental effect of that form of expression. Lucifer's duck obsession and Angel's drug/sex addiction are not on the same detrimental level. Also, they're rubber ducks. I think the creator made them to be laughed at.
I say all this while also not 100% believing Lucifer being secretly autistic. I've seen other users suggest he actually just has ADHD, but I feel like we don't have quite enough information about him to make a definite call. I also don't think every character needs a definitive diagnosis, canon or otherwise. Plenty of people irl go their whole lives without knowing what they have, so it's almost more realistic that way. I think saying "this character gives of autistic vibes" is fine, especially if it's someone like the commenter who said it's cause they're autistic as well and can relate to the character that way.
(I have thoughts and feelings in the same vein about Alastor's LGBT representation, but that might be for another time if it ever comes up. Also, notice how Alaster isn't seen even once in this episode? It's not a spoiler. It's just very uncanny.)
seeing as how Alastor is a serial killer kinda makes sense there are a fair amount of them that feel little to no attraction to people they often appear charming but its just an act they put on to lure in their victims to trust them.
