Thank you fella. Whenever I look at fishing vids, and come across yours it's always a real treat. I'm a total novice; two months fishing now, and live by the sea in South Wales, where all the regular guys seem to feel the need to cast out to the end of the world, with expensive gear, and huge baits. I always enjoy talking to them, and they're always very generous, and encouraging, but they seem to 'blank', (a term I've learned) more often than catch. I much prefer, and employ, your approach, as in fishing small, and catching more, using a wider variety of methods, and fishing for the sport. Thanks again, and keep 'em coming. Ray
jammy .i spent 4 hrs in the harbour last night and got squat lol was rained on and freezing ,i might out it up on my channel ,dident catch owt but a cormorant came close and got a huge eel filmed it trying to chugg it down . i probably have to check the tides out maybe . The harbour seemed ideal with a river coming into it and a great marina ,this is aberystwyth by the way ,if ever your down this way give us a shout gladly go fishing with you ,give me some tips well done on all the species you cought id be happy with just one ,cheers Ant
Nice video mate. I have recently moved down to the coast and just started sea fishing. I do a lot of coarse fishing and do love a bit of float fishing. How would you rate my chances fishing float and rag this time of year (early spring) off the shore? thanks
Thanks Laurence, I think the water is still a bit to cold and there aren't many fish about at the min but still worth a shot you might pick up the odd Pollock or wrasse depending where you will be fishing.
Hi mate, nice video and advices,I m a novice and wanted to know where about were you fishing?I live in Suffolk and don t see much rocky places like you were, many thanks and thanks for sharing!👍
Nice fishing ,your like me just smashing them in as others looking in their box for something float like to rig up cause they only fish the bottom ,night time is a killer for a float ,try this get a pike drift Cork float and hollow out middle enough to put old rod tip about 12" or slightly more ,epoxy swivel at bottom and fix float midway and attach a rod tip light onto top( one from clip and bell type) ,tape to seal light as they not ment to be submerged and your good to go for 100m visual plus the elevation from float makes good for less than fair weather ,looks a good place there and should be easy double figure at night
Watched a lot of videos explaining float shore rigs Thanks my friend you've put all the pedantics away and explained in layman's exactly how to rig Appreciated
Hi man, I loved your video keep up with the good work! If you allow me to ask, how do you guess the depth of your fishing spot to set your float to it?
Hi, i just do it by trial and error. I usually set my depth to about 6 foot when i start. if i don't get any bites i i bring the float in for a change of bait and i adjust the depth deeper by about 1 foot at a time until i find what depth the fish are feeding at.
That was a nice eel mate, I see it slimed you up to the elbow, if you grab them with newspaper they go all still and you can get your hook out (slime free)
Nice video, a very good Wrasse bait is cooked icelandic Prawn, you need to put some elastic on it as they will nip it off immediately. I fish in Norway, but don't use prawn that often as it attracts the Wrasse and Coalies, which I class as a nuisance.
Excellent video I really like your easy going style it makes watching a pleasure, down in Dorset were I regularly rock fish we catch lots of wrasse (Ballan) my pb is nearly 5 lb on slipper limpet tipped with a rag worm tail, but I've never caught a cod or codling from the rocks. How big do they get were you fish off of Whitburn ledges?
enjoyed video and a nice eel on float out the river if the hook is showing just grab hook with a pair of pliers turn hook upside down and shake eel falls off no slime lol
Hello from Spain, Beautiful float fishing video. Like! One question, I see in this video you hook nose the long ragworm with just ONE hook. Did you miss any fish for just using one hook with the long ragworm? Don't you ever use two hooks (when hooking a long ragworm), one main nose hook and a second assist hook, in the middle of the ragworm or near the tail of the ragworm? Thank you very much and keep it up.
Hello Jose, Thanks for the comment. I haven't tried using an assist hook when float fishing but I could see how it would help. I usually only use one hook because it allows the rag worm to move more naturally under the water sometime I do miss fish this way as the little fish tend to bite the tails off the long worms but the bigger fish have no problem taking the whole worm and the hook in one go.
Think it's the towel people dislike. I do. There's no need, it harms the fish unnecessarily. Wipe the slime off your hands with a towel, not off the fish!
I've never been there before, where abouts are you on the ledges or is it simple to see when you're there? I can't find where u were fishing from on google earth, only whitburn, so i'm not exactually sure where in whitburn you were fishing. Thanks

using a towel wipes off protective slim from the fish causing less protection from disease .
Fantastic video! Keep it up!
Thanks.
Thanks for the great tips!

Thanks for sharing again!

Ps it's a slider float but instead of going through the middle it has line to run swivel at base
Thanks Paul, I’ll give that a try next time I’m out float fishing.
I'll be using that method now I keep getting snagged when fishing from the rocks here in Perth.
Watched a lot of videos explaining float shore rigs

hi mate, great video, gonna have to try the ledges sometime this year, whats the best depth to fish on the float there?
Hi mate at high tide I usually set the float between 6 and 10 foot.
Great that u explain...please do more when u have time...
Thanks, will do.
Another great vid mate, keep it up. I love the sub titles lol.
Thanks Ian.

Thanks. Excellent tip I'll do that next time I catch one.
Another question, what's the lenght of the leader you were using in this video, from the float to the hook?
Thank you.
I'm not sure on the exact length i think it would have been between 1 and 2 foot.
I have the exact same stand only found out you could extend the main part the other day lol

Thanks for the tip Scott I'll have to try that next time I go fishing for wrasse.

Thanks, Cod season is just starting up here the biggest I've heard of being caught from around Whitburn ledges is 5 to 6 lb.
enjoyed video and a nice eel on float out the river if the hook is showing just grab hook with a pair of pliers turn hook upside down and shake eel falls off no slime lol
Thanks. I'll try that next time to avoid the slime lol
Nice video. Well done mate.
Thanks mate.

float stopper with rubber band...........good idea
Where is this place I want to go here after covid
Whitburn ledges.
What's there to dislike! Subscribed. Missed the beginning and thought he had a rat in the towel! LOL
Lol thanks.

Great video Gary..can I ask what rod, reel and line you are using?
Thanks Peter, we were using carp rods with 15 lb main line and cheap fixed spool reels.

Hi Alex if you copy and paste these coordinates into google maps you should get the location 54.966467, -1.358057
I copied and pasted them and it doesn't work, not sure why.
try pasting them into the google search bar that might work
