- The Kichwa of Ecuador use the strong fibers of the agave cactus to make shoes, rope, and other building materials. "They're the only shoes without a right or a left foot." www.lorisentmee...
You will see producers of agave fibers slightly roast the leaves over a wide ,but low fire ,which makes the process faster . Thank you for an excellent video.
My Spanish isn’t great, but believe he said for indigenous people it’s not just about artisanry but about taking care of the land. It was interesting that that part was lost in translation.
Thanks for posting this up! This is gold. This is the fastest hand method I have come across for processing the raw fibre so far.
Thankyou for posting this, I have some huge agave leaves and just processed 2 by beating with a stick and soaking in water ( i am yet to see how they turn out). I didn't realise I could process them this way, I will try it on them.
I cut down some agave and the juices burned me quite badly, how are they handling it without gloves?
This doesn't show anything about the weaving process for creating sandals other than processing for fiber
Anyone know if there's a blade on that tool or if it's just a stick with square edges?
It looks to me like just a stick with square edges, I’m sure that’s all you need, I’ve processed fibers from agave with a stone
Was his blade pretty sharp? I've seen vids where they use the back of their knives to scrape. Thanks for posting!
If this was used for soap, it would most likely be yucca because all agave does is give you a bad rash.
pretty bad hangovers too
I bet you treat dry or boil away the juice so it won’t burn you
How do we stop the rash??
Who is that hateful woman who keeps interrupting to talk about how poor the working man is? Eww?
