- @WaybackRewind I couldn't resist the temptation to own JVC's Top of the line Compact VHS-C camcorder from 1999. The only difference between this and the JVC GR-SXM-730U is the color viewfinder. Ironically the color viewfinder is smaller. Somehow the put the higher tech device into a smaller space. The black and white one is probably a CRT and the color is obviously LCD. All that being said the B&W is brighter and sharper and clearer, so it's kind of a toss up which one is better. #video #camcorder #tv

And yes I know I should have said that 2400 mAh have over twice the CHARGE of the 1100mAh battery
👍🏽
When are you going to show some of the 480 interlaced NTSC analog video that dinosaur puts out?
In the first 30 seconds, I have a link to the detailed test and test footage done with its sibling, which I didn't need to repeat here. And I have another dedicated video shot with same said camera .

Did JVC ever make a better quality VHS-C camcorder? Maybe in the 2000s?
Not that I know of. These represent the high water mark of S-VHS-C. None were smaller or had touch screens or had any USB ports or any advanced features.
@@WaybackRewind Thank you for your help again. I was wondering why there are so many different model numbers. It gets confusing, one has color view finder, one has a larger LCD screen, one's a 400x the other is a 600x, etc.
In the early 2000s they had like 9 different models that all had slight variations as you mentioned. Towards the end they simplified to like 2 or 3 but they are all basically the same camera.
@@WaybackRewind So right now I'm weighing my options between the JVC GR-SXM730 and the JVC GR-SXM745. Any thoughts?
How about a shootout. DVCam vs S-VHS. Two 640x480 windows side by side on same screen. Both cameras shooting the same thing.
Good idea, although the outcome is predictable, would be interesting to see how well S-VHS holds up.
Done.

Would either of these units work well as a passthrough device, for digitizing VHS tapes?
I am curious if the onboard TBC and nois reduction in the camera would have an effect on the VHS footage being passed through it 🤔
Thank you for your videos!
Not these units. There is no digital pass-through or a digital port of any kind. You need a miniDV or digital8. Thanks for watching
Is there any way top adapt a fisheye lens on the 930?
Yes, it has a 40.5mm thread amd there are fish eye lenes available.
Thanks for watching.

@@WaybackRewind oh cool, says its for a different model but it is compatible I presume. thanks!
@@macaronafterparty Yes, it didn't list that specific model but they are all the same. You're welcome.
Do you find Sony Video 8 Handycams produce much better quality video compared to the VHS-C camcorders? I am find that with mine. I finally found a Panasonic NV-VR1 and a hopefully a working JVC on its way in the post and a new in box JVC coming too
Compact VHS was always a compromise. The Video 8 was designed from the ground up so in my opinion they are going to be a little higher quality. But it's not a huge difference. I did a S-VHS-C versus Mini-DV and the S-VHS-C surprised me by being almost as good. So I think a regular VHS-C versus Video 8 would be a close match.
I just bought one, what size is the tape it uses?
It uses compact VHS tapes.
Thanks for watching.

I put the tape but I can't open the video
I'm not sure of your problem. Can you not play the tape? Or is it stuck in the machine?
As for playing the tape you can use an adapter to play it in any VHS machine. If the tape is stuck in the machine I'm afraid your camera is broken.
Let me know more details, maybe I can help.
Thanks for watching.
Analog is so yesterday...
More like 24 years worth of yesterdays, 😄
It has over 100 digital effects due to digital signal processing. But yes, the picture is glorious analog. Thanks for watching!
My screen is just blue I put in a brand new cassette tape and am trying to take a video for the first time
Sadly I think your camera is broken.
Thanks for watching.
