For anyone worried about the longevity of the prints, if you are really keen on keeping them (or printing other images) it comes with a micro SD card that stores all of the images. Please be aware that most conventional thermal paper is covered with lots of Bisphenol-A (BPA) as a reactance agent. The excessive handling of such paper is connected with higher intake of BPA. Possible negative health effects of BPA (and BPS for that matter) are discussed in science and BPA in thermal paper is prohibited in the EU. Plus, the images will be very sensitive to light and grey out over time.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, the rolls I bought specifically are BPA free (all the photos you actually see in the video). According to the roll paper manufacturers, they last up to 10 years if they are not in direct contact with the sunlight Also I have tried to rub the image with my fingers and there was no effect. I'm not sure about light, but it has been 2 months, and the photos still look exactly the same to me.

The fact that I recognise where some of the shots were taken (Brussels), was an added incentive to get this camera or something similar. Especially architecturally, could view these spots in a different way, again. Great video and great explanation! Looking forward to experimenting.
As a photographer and lover of lateral thinking cheap awesome things, I LOVE the idea of this camera. All the charm of Game Boy Camera candids but with much better clarity and wide or tall rectangular shots. But then, as someone who is very acquainted with thermal printing at this point, a lot of thermal print paper and printers are extremely susceptible to fading over time, sometimes even fading almost 100% of the image after a year or two. Not that I have a problem with the idea of making art that's only temporary/ephemeral, or that I'd have to scan or re-photograph to keep long-term, but this is the one hesitation that comes to mind for me.
I agree these things are great fun, I've had a few thermal printers that hooked up to my phone over blutooth, but realistically they are kind of just toys. Thermal prints don't last well, they ultimately fade with time, and even worse with exposure to pretty much anything. Even adhesives and laminates will fade them, so you cant protect them with that. Great fun though, especially for the price and the camera in this one seems great.

I actually bought one of these for my nephew a few years back after he took a liking to my mirrorless camera and took burst shots of everything. He loves it, and I have to say, its super cool just to have the fun point, shoot and print like a polaroid, but without the worry of about wasting a shot. Thermal paper for it is so cheap.
Got one of these second hand a few days ago and have been lovin it: The physical prints just have this super nice quality that i cant describe Also really surprised by all the features this little thing has Zoom, 5sec Timer for setting up pictures, Effects(Picture frames were to be expected but there are also symmetry ones and I really like the silhouette/outline one), it can do video and even has a selfy cam I also got a DSLR, heavy and big and when I take pictures with it, I push myself to take pictures that are "good" but with this things I just pick it up and start to wonder "How would this look like on Thermopaper?" and start trying things already have a jar of collected images. I'm really happy to have found this video, this things is no gimmick but actually a camera which is super fun to play with and definetly not just for kids
That sounds great. What is your experience about the battery: how many photos / prints can you make with one charge? And how long takes it to be charged?
@@michaelh.gerloff3659 charging takes a couple of hours and it does take&print a good few pictures per charge, the only problem I have run into is that picture quality/print darkness deteriorates when the battery gets low Also probably really depends on the *print density* setting, which basically sets how dark the image taken is printed. I got mine second hand for 20€ and the previous owner sold it to me thinking it was broken/ had bad print quality but really it was low on charge and the print density setting was set to 2 but goes up to 7. Now it prints well, or as well as you can expect this little thing to, it does struggle with contrast some times. (e.g. the timestamp is illegible most of the time on a low print density setting)
I NEED ONE STAT. no but this video made me feel hella "nostalgic", it made me want to take pictures again or shoot film again or shoot anything again. what a great video dude! keep it up
I got this camera for my sister last Christmas. Can confirm they are pretty fun. But i haven't seen her play with it in a while. You can also get sticker paper for it.
I made a camera like this six or seven years ago as a raspberry pi project. Kept the photos as long strips, like a photo booth, on the fridge. Unfortunately after several years they’ve all faded and I keep them as rolls in a box hoping they won’t degrade any further. If you figure out how to preserve thermal paper prints please post a video.
this was my first thought. you can of course scan them but it's more fun to have the physical photo preserved. It's worth trying a UV protective coating like MSA by Golden. I assume that would help extend their life
@@mrchops same paper, the camera uses a standard receipt thermal printer and paper. The photos on the fridge were definitely exposed to sunlight, faded to a light yellow. The prints degrade over time, I don’t know if they can be preserved.
hmmm one thing i noticed was that the paper the camera uses has a different texture from the receipts we get at the store, im unsure if they are exactly the same. The thermal paper manufacturers claim that it lasts up to 10 years in optimal conditions. In a photo album would be the best, but you can always reprint them?
@@mrchops 10 years is not that long. I just wouldn’t treat these prints as something precious that would last. I have a couple of special shots of my kids that I know won’t last and I should print them on something more permanent. The prints are literal fleeting moments.
So glad I found this video! I'm going on a trip in January and even though I love my film camera there's so many pics I don't take just because it's so expensive 😭. This is perfect and I can just take a bit of tape and my journal with me in order to keep track of everything I see
Just bought one for my friend's kid. Before giving it away i tried it and instantly decided to buy one for myself. This video is just perfect timing for me and really inspiring! 🍻
I might just get this! I was really into film photography a few years ago but it got too expensive. This looks like a nice cheap way to get back into photography :)
Such a good idea! I always hesitated to buy the instax for example because of the cost and I was afraid that the fun wouldn't last long, but with this cute kids version, I am seriously reconsidering😊
I got my hands on a thermal printer with an app for your phone. it gives a bit more control on the dithering, but it's not as instant as this camera. Also, I found rolls of sticker paper, so instant photo stickers I guess ?
I’ve been looking for a little camera that I can take with me on walks because I’m just so tired of my phone 😢 I love this, and I love the philosophy behind it. I think I’m gonna get one 😊
This is wonderful. I love my Polaroid camera(passed down from my grandpa). But it’s increasingly expensive to buy an 8 pack of film for nearly $35 CAD. This seems like a ton of fun and black and white is fine by me because I honestly prefer black and white for instant photography.
Careful with the thermal prints, the keyword is thermal. Improper storage and exposure to heat will make the photos disappear. The only downside that keeps me to not get one 😢
Reminds me of that series on youtube, no idea if its still up, where professional photographers were given cheap toy cameras and the results were so interesting. One photographer was given a barbie camera and made the creepiest short film with it.
It has been more than 1 month since I took those pictures and they look exactly the same as in the video, they have been in a photo album and some extras in a memory box. The paper manufacturers claim in optimal conditions (away from direct sunlight) they last up to 10 years.
I have a version of this camera I got from 5below for $25 under the brand called up-tech and I’m in love with it. I don’t think they make refills for the one I have but can use the same ones from that camera on it. The sticker paper doesn’t work as well tho
How long will those photos last before they fade away like an old receipt? I would love something like that for journaling and my sketchbook, but would be afraid the image would deteriorate over time. Is there a way to coat the paper to keep the image permanent? Would this be an easy way to transfer the image to make a linocut print? So many possibilities!
This could be an awesome camera for making fun(ny) zines! Printing the zines afterwards it ist not that important if the original will fade away one day. What is your experience about the battery: how many photos / prints can you make with one charge? And how long takes it to be charged?
ohh good question! I barely had to charge it to be honest. I use it in social events and forget to charge it between those weeks and its completely fine! I would roughly say 1 full charge for 100 prints
I already own an Instax 300 Wide and was thinking of adding an Evo due to the LCD option to be able to view the image prior to printing, however, after seeing this I’m going to try and snag one of these first
You can search for Bluetooth thermal printers and just print photos you take with your phone. You lose some of the media, but can work the same. You can also look for Sticker thermal paper
I just watched a 4.23 ADVERT for a camera ! Well done. I'm guessing the print roll paper is just a Supermarket Receipt printer which means that the paper once printed is 'Toxic' to handle like shop receipts are. ""Toxicity. The liquid chemicals for the developing process contained in the more common instant photo sheets are caustic and can cause chemical burns. If these chemicals come into contact with skin, they should be washed off immediately"" Did you even consider this when making your marketing video ? Not All print rolls are BPA free so you might have mentioned this.
Thanks for the great video :) Back in September I bought a heavy, bulky DSLR because I was briefly interested in photography, but I quickly became bored of it and now it's just collecting dust on my shelf, so I've also been considering buying something like this lately. However, I thought about buying a Canon Zoemini S (or C) camera instead, which goes for around 35-60$ on my local used market, and paper costs 40,75$ for a 100-pack which works out to about ~0.41$-ish per shot. I thought it would be a nice compromise between this ultra cheap B&W thing and expensive stuff like Fujis and Polaroids. Do you think it would be able to spark my interest in photography again? Thanks for reply in advance :)
My honest opinion? I think each of the cameras you mentioned have their own places. More specifically, the "kids" camera I usually use it in any social events (parties, weddings etc.) and dont mind shooting as much as I want or letting others use it freely (because its so cheap) and giving the shots away (again, because its so cheap hahah). I also made labels (check my latest community post on my youtube profile!). What you mentioned seems like a good middle point, if i were to have it, I would use it more sparingly for my "nice" shots. Maybe for bigger projects. I hope you understand the differences in mentality! In any case, if you think it's fun then definitely it will spark your interest in photography! Again I still bring mine to any event, so it will never be collecting dust!
@@mrchops Thanks for the quick reply, I'm trying to be as frugal and "minimalist" as possible and minimize all unnecessary purchases, but I'm really tempted to get one now :) Labels turned out great btw! I'm really happy to have found this video, this things is no gimmick but actually a camera which is super fun to play with and definetly not just for kids
That sounds great. What is your experience about the battery: how many photos / prints can you make with one charge? And how long takes it to be charged?
@@michaelh.gerloff3659 charging takes a couple of hours and it does take&print a good few pictures per charge, the only problem I have run into is that picture quality/print darkness deteriorates when the battery gets low
Also probably really depends on the *print density* setting, which basically sets how dark the image taken is printed.
(e.g. the timestamp is illegible most of the time on a low print density setting)
thank you for showing me this! i’ve wanted a cheap more vintage camera for a long time and this showed me which one is the most fun!
I'm really glad, enjoy!
This was an excellent video! Thank you!!
I never bought something so fast. 2 minutes of the video, went and bought it, came back! Thanks for showing it!!! Can't wait to get it
I NEED ONE STAT. no but this video made me feel hella "nostalgic", it made me want to take pictures again or shoot film again or shoot anything again. what a great video dude! keep it up
Thanks for the idea! I bought one and I love it!
hey, that's great! I hope you have lots of fun :)
Neat little camera. I also really enjoyed this video - visually and the feeling expressed in it.
I got this camera for my sister last Christmas. Can confirm they are pretty fun. But i haven't seen her play with it in a while. You can also get sticker paper for it.
Careful with BPA/BPS papers. For the rest looks interesting 😊
Just bought something similar from Amazon and also got 50% discount on it. Love the photos you took and the composition
I assume that would help extend their life
Interesting! In your project did you use the same rolls as these cameras do? Also were the photos exposed to direct sunlight?
This is perfect and I can just take a bit of tape and my journal with me in order to keep track of everything I see
I ordered one. Excited to make a B&W collage. 📸😀
Just bought one for my friend's kid. Before giving it away i tried it and instantly decided to buy one for myself. This video is just perfect timing for me and really inspiring! 🍻
The format is also really cool! Like a movie still
I might just get this! I was really into film photography a few years ago but it got too expensive. This looks like a nice cheap way to get back into photography :)
This does look fun. I would love to see someone do a long term project with it. Might do it myself.
Inspirational video
Thank you ❤
Thank you for making this video!!
youtube send this to me. I love it! Great work and camera. Love every second of it
Once i saw that printer feature, instantly brought me back to the Game Boy Camera
Nice, that’s one holiday gift for my kids figured out!
Duuuuuuuude. This is so fun! I'm totally getting one right now from your link. So thank you! Wooooo!
Such a good idea! I always hesitated to buy the instax for example because of the cost and I was afraid that the fun wouldn't last long, but with this cute kids version, I am seriously reconsidering😊
Honestly go for it! I still take it in my pocket when i go out or any event. Priceless memories
This looks perfect for collage art
I got my hands on a thermal printer with an app for your phone. it gives a bit more control on the dithering, but it's not as instant as this camera. Also, I found rolls of sticker paper, so instant photo stickers I guess ?
I’ve been looking for a little camera that I can take with me on walks because I’m just so tired of my phone 😢
I love this, and I love the philosophy behind it. I think I’m gonna get one 😊
Letterbox format helps as well. Really cool.
This is wonderful. I love my Polaroid camera(passed down from my grandpa). But it’s increasingly expensive to buy an 8 pack of film for nearly $35 CAD. This seems like a ton of fun and black and white is fine by me because I honestly prefer black and white for instant photography.
This proves that photographing is just about framing and texture
Awesome! Is the medium plastic or paper? Also, do the prints fade over time?
Being a broke PhD student, I can't afford an Instax or a Kodak long term. This is a great cheaper alternative to play around with.
That image quality is pretty astonishing!
This would be sick if you could export the color images too
Subscribed! What a lovely video!
Careful with the thermal prints, the keyword is thermal. Improper storage and exposure to heat will make the photos disappear. The only downside that keeps me to not get one 😢
Yeah...like receipts I guess. You can keep them legible for years but you really have to care for them.
Amazing video, would be interested in how a slightly more engineered version would turn out
I really like your video editing and i'll definitely check this camera out! Great video and message!
thank you so much ian!
I just bought a crab one. Thank you! Excited to use it!!!
hahah awesome! I hope you have lots of fun with it :)
Reminds me of that series on youtube, no idea if its still up, where professional photographers were given cheap toy cameras and the results were so interesting. One photographer was given a barbie camera and made the creepiest short film with it.
the golden days of digitalrev tv! I watched them all hahah
first time i see this and i already want to buy it 😆good video!
I love it! These photos don’t vanish over time like receipts do?
They don't! If you keep them in an album they stay (according to the thermal paper manufacturers) up to 10 years
"it's fun" i love that
usally thermal paper prints dont last so long and fade out. How long have you had your photos for and have they faded at all?
It has been more than 1 month since I took those pictures and they look exactly the same as in the video, they have been in a photo album and some extras in a memory box. The paper manufacturers claim in optimal conditions (away from direct sunlight) they last up to 10 years.
@@mrchops thank you! Great video! Thinking of getting one.
Definitely buy one
Got myself one instantly and it's AMAZING! 😍🔥
awesome! I think its also such a hidden gem for a gift, enjoy!
I have a version of this camera I got from 5below for $25 under the brand called up-tech and I’m in love with it. I don’t think they make refills for the one I have but can use the same ones from that camera on it. The sticker paper doesn’t work as well tho
I love this idea. I bought one for my business.
Reminds me of the old gameboy camera and printer. Uses thermal as well I think
In got one of the temu thermal printers and it was fun but didn’t have as much color, it was all gray and less clear
did you check the settings? This one you can print either full or dotted. All the pictures in the video are in "full"'
How long will those photos last before they fade away like an old receipt? I would love something like that for journaling and my sketchbook, but would be afraid the image would deteriorate over time. Is there a way to coat the paper to keep the image permanent? Would this be an easy way to transfer the image to make a linocut print? So many possibilities!
if they are in a sketchbook you dont need to worry about them! As long as they are away from direct sunlight they should last for years
Since it’s termal does it get easily affected by being exposed to the sun/heat?
Do you store them differently?
There is also a slightly higher spec'd 20MP version of this camera as well. Only available though in Dinosaur.
Wait for real or is it interpolated? Link please?
I think he is talking about this one: amzn.to/3XTc1ua
But to be fair I think they all do about the same?
@@mrchops They are all the same lol. Ive got a few that are 48 megapixels, photos all look the same as my 12 megapixel cameras.
does it save the images in memory as well beside printing it out?
This is amazing!
Great, love it
Thx.. you made the price GO UP! Lol... Also, love how FAKE those photos on the Amazon ad are... if ONLY they could print out that wonderful...
what is the name and make of this camera? , because i like the wideness of the photo
Any idea what the best way to store the prints would be? Worried they would degrade quite quickly!
This video was so beautiful omg
This could be an awesome camera for making fun(ny) zines! Printing the zines afterwards it ist not that important if the original will fade away one day. What is your experience about the battery: how many photos / prints can you make with one charge? And how long takes it to be charged?
ohh good question! I barely had to charge it to be honest. I use it in social events and forget to charge it between those weeks and its completely fine! I would roughly say 1 full charge for 100 prints
I already own an Instax 300 Wide and was thinking of adding an Evo due to the LCD option to be able to view the image prior to printing, however, after seeing this I’m going to try and snag one of these first
Disappointed that it’s not $30 in Canada, it look super fun!
If these chemicals come into contact with skin, they should be washed off immediately""
Did you even consider this when making your marketing video ?
@@mrchops Thanks for the quick reply, I'm trying to be as frugal and "minimalist" as possible and minimize all unnecessary purchases, but I'm really tempted to get one now :)
Labels turned out great btw! Gym checklist is a great idea, I can't count the number of times I found myself in the locker room, already changed into my running clothes, and found out that I forgot my bottle once again for like the hundredth time lol
Saw this and instantly ordered one - now it’s here I was just wondering if anyone’s found a way to upload photos you’ve already taken to print with the camera?
Yes! you can just put any photo to the microsd card and print it in the gallery, just make sure to that the photo has the same dimensions. I'm currently using it to do custom gifts where I add text and photos to print them!
this so cool! thanks for sharing it with us!!!
Cool video, with a great message!
Beautiful vid, I subscribed
They should make an adult version
was is the longevity of the prints? Store receipts fade pretty quickly (like less than 10 years, sometimes much faster then that).
I see that is has memory card, so I believe you can print it out again when the first copy fades
for some reason this feels like an extra appropriate way to photograph Brussels
