Aside from being an old man, Hughes also was a really bad drunkard and junkie for more than 20 years, probably smoked too. Gerontologists should study him.
@@nicksm7980 It's no wonder he become religious/spiritual. If I still had a voice like that after the battering it took I'd probably believe in God too.
I've been rock drumming for 45 years and let me tell you it takes stamina to rock out like that. Ian and Bill Ward of BS and of course Johnny B. of LZ were my idols. I spent many nights trying to copy their styles and when I got close cause you never really get it, I became a premier drummer. I'm 64 now and I doubt highly I could physically match what Ian is doing today. But if I lost a few pounds and practiced like I did when I was 15 to 21, I think I could pull it off if no one was looking. Love true rock and roll. And always remember this: ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER DIE BUT IT'S ALWAYS BEEN A LITTLE BIT SICK!!
I come back to this performance almost every week. I'm a huge Coverdale fan, but Hughes blows him out of the water with this rendition. And at his age! Mind blowing and unbelievable. I only wish the guitar was a bit higher in the mix.
Yeah he played real good he looks like he's trying to hide under his hair I never understood I saw that whole concert and he made the part really good even had a strat I don't know something might have been up
I drove the band van for their last tour in Sofia, Bulgaria back in 2017. Ian Paice was so fine and polite man - seeing him at these drums is insane :-))).
Came for Bruce, think I'm actually most impressed with Ian Paice. Always admired his drumming, and a lot of guys in his generation have really lost the energy but he's still beating the shit out of those drums.
5:13 my God Ian Paice!!!!!!! What the hell!!!!!!! Never heard that fills before!!! It's damn awesome combined with that bass slide!!! Never heard it in the recorded version nor in the 1974 California Jam where it's the first time I see you and your monstrous performance. That fills sounds so today and yet still mixed well with the song!!! Ian Paice is my firts favorite drummer. The second is John Bonham. And so on...
The unmistakable solid, tight, powerful, creative, crisp sound of Ian Paice on drums!!! One of the absolute best drummers in rock and roll history! My favorite Deep Purple song as well! Of course Glenn is incredible as well, especially for a guy in his late 60's!!! He's been through a lot of shit in his earlier years and it's good to see him doing well!
man is there anybody more rock and roll than glen hughes...i mean come on when you can bury bruce dickinson in the mix..then you are legend..man they all killed it...glad i found this.

I met glen outside the royal Albert hall just before the gig .such a nice guy signed my ticket and shook my hand What an amazing day , hearing this live was probably the day of my life.
Poor wonderful Ian Paice, the other band members get a break while it's someone else's turn. It's ALWAYS his turn since he has played on EVERY Deep Purple song since their inception.
Every time I see and listen to this performance I am left speechless by it and the amazing wall of sound. It's that one performance that I wish I could have been there for. So thanks for posting, definitely one of my favourite clips on YT
Glenn Hughes has been amazing forever! Here he's due to collect his bus pass and pension for crying out loud, and he still is in my humble opinion the undimished VOICE OF ROCK!
Paice is really so good here. Doesn't seem to have lost anything. Unfortunate about the guitar being lost in the mix though. It and Lord's original keys were so vital to the overall sound of this very under-appreciated song.

Ian Paice in full throtle, one of the best drummers ever.
If only Bill Ward would've kept himself in playing shape like this.
hell ya right
most underrated drummer ever.
@@openstagedenver6257 he was never underrated in my crowd I saw them live in 1973
❤️🖤♥️❤️🖤♥️
I don't think Ian Paice has missed a beat in his life. His fills are just incredible!! I agree with comments below "One of the best ever!!
Bruce Dickinson. On stage with Glenn Hughes. And Ian Paice. Playing my favorite Deep Purple song.
Is this heaven?
Dawson Lee kind of...but i saw burning there
Yes child, please step in.
YESSSSSS
It is
If it isn`t , it must be the nearest thing to the heaven
Glen Hughes is the bass-playing chuck norris of rock-music. Awesome
That's not a compliment.
Glenn was murdering that bass, amazing!
Ian Paice is a fuckin' monster! Amazing!
And Hughes still got it.
Monster! Forget Powell or Bonham. Paice is just better :)
The best drummer of all time.
THEY ARE LIKE A ROBOTS, LIKE A MACHINE GUNS -- NO CREATIVITY ANYMORE :))
Hughes's vocals are amazing...but please note his bass playing as well!
-stunning!
yea the singing might make u forget. Wow man such talent
The bass solo is really great.
He's a demon musician.
Hughes is out of this world, he's got to be the only howler from the 70s who kept his voice ! Gotta catch him live one day.
bry94360 Wow!!
And Steven Tyler
Caught his show last month - amazing that he can still belt out the screams like he was in his 20s. Great show.
Caught him last night in Dublin, Wow! What a night. "The Voice" still has it!!
incredible! O.O
Ian Paice still one of the greatest all-time drummers!
The fact that Glenn can STILL hit those high notes (at this point in time anyway) is mad impressive!
Both of these singers shouldn't sound as good as they do at their ages...Hughes somehow tapped into the fountain of youth.
Aside from being an old man, Hughes also was a really bad drunkard and junkie for more than 20 years, probably smoked too. Gerontologists should study him.
yes gillian will never ever gonna sing burn
@@nicksm7980 It's no wonder he become religious/spiritual. If I still had a voice like that after the battering it took I'd probably believe in God too.

Paice plays insanely good. How does he nail all that furious drumming flawlessly?
Glenn hughes is not human. What a voice. Incredible
Asi veľa Líže ,mal by som tiež.
Ian Paice played his heart out. Everyone on that stage did. What a beautiful tribute to Jon.
Ian Paice one of the originals and still one of the best ! Unbelievable
L D the best drummer ever wow the metronome man
The engine of whole thing !
Ian Paice was also Jon Lord's brother in law - they are/were married to twin sisters . Nobody else could possibly have played drums for this concert
L D
What an animal! None like him...

God Glen Hughes you never loose your scream !!!
Dickinson and Hughes on stage together performing one of the best from Deep Purple, what a treat this is!
What a study in contrast - and that's just the teeth

Ian Paice really kicks ass here. Playing like a madman, and he was 65 when this was filmed.
Easy for Paice!
Ian and Neil Peart.. the two best rock drummers ever
Check out Ian Paice reviewing this 17-year-old girl drummer from Germany - Sina Doering
I drove the band van for their last tour in Sofia, Bulgaria back in 2017. Ian Paice was so fine and polite man - seeing him at these drums is insane :-))).
You are a lucky man! 😊
Came for Bruce, think I'm actually most impressed with Ian Paice. Always admired his drumming, and a lot of guys in his generation have really lost the energy but he's still beating the shit out of those drums.
Ian Paice was on fire!
And still is
Yes he was!!! He is the best!!!!.
As always and Don Ariey
Rodrigo Algarte - REALLY? No he was not! You fibber, I did not see any smoke or flames...were you on drugs?
Mark brown - Not you as well!!! I did not see any smoke or flames, so stop saying that chap was on fire...maybe you were on drugs!
Mr Airey pays a real tribute by playing the solo exactly as Mr Lord originally recorded it. He really nailed there!
Doubled by Mr. Wakeman!
Ian Paice is insane! No doubt, one of the best ever!
Amazing tribute to the late maestro John Lord.
OMG Glenn Hughes what a voice!!
Glenn is still The Voice after all these years!!!!!
Hughes, Dickinson, Airey, Wakeman... and a full orchestra backup - John Lord, RIP - and smile.
Two of the greatest rock and heavy vocalists together on stage. Glenn in his 70s and still belting out the high screams. Awesome!!!
One of the very best renditions of this DP classic. Hughes is unreal after all of these years and Paice - well I'd argue for best drummer ever!

Special mention to Don Airey. Purple don't play Burn, it's a Mk III song. But Airey nails Jon Lord's solo perfectly. That's respect.
I think he really enjoyed the chance to do a Mk III classic with Glenn & Ian. Also as you said reverence to Jon.
Tocou muito bem o Me airey
How is it that Glenn Hughes sounds better now then he did in the 70's? ;p)
Cranston Snord he changed his cords!
He was on drugs in the 70s.
He doesn't, you're fanboying.
He sounded great in the 70's but there was Coverdale who interfered )))
@@greatunz67 yes, he does. He has more control over his voice to a point were he can add a nice vibrato there.
Hughes is immortal! unbelievable voice for your age!
Don Airy on the solo, with the famous Marshall/Leslie "Lord" tone. Awesome!
Damn...Bruce and Glenn sound really damn good together. Mad awesome version of this track!!
Ian Paice + Glenn Hughes: Two of rock's national treasures and perhaps the most underrated percussionist and bass player in the history of music.
Glenn Hughes is absolutely killing it!
Glenn Hughes IS the voice of rock for so many years !
