the-homework-g...
The Homework Guy Team publishes videos to help Car Buyers. We don’t hate Car Dealerships. Instead, we represent Car Buyers, a goal that’s often in direct conflict with Car Dealer goals.
A CAR DEALER WANTS TO:
1. SELL every car for the Highest Possible Price.
2. CONVINCE Car Buyers to use Dealer affiliated Lenders / Banks.
3. LOAD every Car Deal full of Fees and Finance Products.
4. OFFER Lowball numbers on every Trade Vehicle.
THE HOMEWORK GUY TEAM (THG) HELPS CAR BUYERS TO:
1. BUY a Car from Dealers or Private Party Sellers at the Lowest Price.
2. PAY Cash or Finance with their own Bank or Credit Union.
3. DECLINE Dealer Fees and Finance Products.
4. TRADE / SELL their current vehicle for the Best Value.
For more than 40 years, dealerships have EARNED their bad reputations by being the masters of predatory selling. They stalk victims relentlessly, often ruthlessly treating the most vulnerable car buyers (like seniors, for example) with little or no conscience. Car Dealers and their Finance Officers have no problem creating financial devastation for their customers with over bloated car loans, and often do. While the business has had record setting profits, Dealers never stop telling Car Buyers “We’re losing money!” That’s the bed Car Dealers custom built for themselves. We point out the traps and the flaws of the process, and help car buyers get by all the nonsense without being ripped off. We promote fairness, honesty, and transparency, and we’d love to see a few dealers join our mission!
The Homework Guy Team provides car buying consumers with information, automotive news and updates, industry outlook, buying and selling advice, and other help to level the tables. The public face of THG is Kevin Hunter and the master negotiator, Elizabeth. Tons of time and research goes into every show, planning for weeks, several projects always on the table, all with the goal of getting it exactly right. From Automotive News Updates to vehicle shopping advice and assistance, The Homework Guy Team is the best there is.

So she is training people to be the type of salesman people don't like, amazing.
Yes, exactly. She's focusing on the worst traits a salesman can exhibit while interacting with a potential client. The "don't let your customer lead you" is some of the dumbest advice I've ever heard given to a car salesman. Funny thing is... she admits what a terrible reputation the car business has, and then teaches the techniques that made it that way. Pretty sad.
You can’t make this up
Between this and Scottie Kilmer it's the best auto channel on UA-cam
As a Toyota and Lexus fanboy, Scotty is just our guy who tells anyone who doesn’t buy a Toyota or Lexus is a tool who are buying an endless money pits, as they are.
ChrisFixIt would like to have a word with you…..
Lol. Chris Fix is a good guy too!
I'd look up ChevyDude
Ahhhh, gotta love Scotty! 😂
I just got hired as a car salesman .my boss is honest man and he told me customer service is our number one priority. Listen to the customer needs and ask simple questions what they like to have . If a customer says I'll be back or think about it.. compiment them nice hand shake or fist bump .. and thank them for stopping by. No nonsense tactics.. honestly best
I honestly have to laugh at the advice to never let there be silence between you and the customer
I realize I'm a typical, but I am an introvert
The best way to sell me on something, is to leave me alone and let me sell it to myself
If I feel pressure for any reason, I will find an excuse to not buy unless I absolutely have to have the product
Same
Also an introvert, I need time, so shut up. I already know what I want and what info I need. Stop! do not present, answer me.
Same. Pressure, light or heavy, will cause me to leave.
Everyone needs silence.
We laughed at that too. When a person doesn't know when they should keep their mouth shut, they are killing the deal. Bad advice for anyone in sales.
The dealerships in Hazard, KY are owned by 1 man. They won't work on a vehicle if it wasn't purchased there. Unless it's a high dollar repair. Those go to the front of the line. I consider that BAD customer service as well. Thanks and I love your videos!! I catch myself binge watching them, lol
A customer that follows the salesman is a follower vs a leader. I had a car salesman walk away from me and sit down, wanting me to follow him. I told the sales person, I guess you do not want my business. Walking away and leaving, you should have heard the salesman trying to get me to return !
I was driving through a new car lot a couple of decades ago and it was a cold day in January. A salesman came out of the building and started chasing after my car so I went back and forth across the lot to play with him and he chased me all over the lot. PATHETIC.
a pitiful game of tag.....and he was IT!
Overload with kindness reminds of that scene in "pretty woman" --- "your not sucking up enough".
This trainer encapsulates everything I hate about dealership sales, and why I do not do business w them
She does tick all the "dislike" boxes, doesn't she? Interestingly, after she admits what a bad reputation the car business has, she doesn't say, "so we need to change how we treat people, and provide REAL customer service." Nope, that didn't occur to her at all.
As the words about tying the child's shoe were coming out of her mouth, I was creeped out and thinking the exact same thing as Kevin. The last thing in the world I'd appreciate is someone, she admitted already has a sleazy reputation, coming over and touching my child.
Interesting that she doesn't see that. Amazing how clueless these people are.
Absolute truth. Most people go along with those tactics. Your viewers are not average buyers. My first dealership I let a customer leave thinking nothing of it. The GM was so angry. He said "Next time you do that, you can follow them off the lot!". In front of everyone I said "You can only fire me once ". He never threatened me again. I am a car buying coach. I help people get clarity, explain the appraisal and explain the finance options. I want to quit everyday, but people need my service.
There were plenty of times we thought publishing The Homework Guy content was a waste of our time. Would anyone ever really be interested, or did customers prefer to have their heads in the sand? As it turns out, people loved our channel, and it took off.
Great line!
What i watch today was so on point. Back in the early 80's I went to a dealership recommended by a friend that was 25, maybe 30 miles down the road. Not only did the owner/selllsman treat me right, help me get the car I wanted (he got the color I wanted from another dealership) he also treated his workers like family. If I came by on Friday's around noon there was a home cook meal for everyone . Buyer's, sellspersons, machinists. Great man which I continued going to until moved. Thanks for all that you do to help in buying a car.
Your content continues to improve with every video. Your information is classic, rock solid and brimming with up to date knowledge. I would not want to be a big dealership with this data coming at me. Their future is looking grim.
Thanks, Dr Dan! Sometimes we wonder if we should hit a given subject, but tons of requests come in all the time from car buyers. We do our best. Lots of thought, planning, etc goes into what we do. Big dealers are a bit worried, and they should be. Their business model has to change, and the moment these influences pushing the car prices up are off... there's going to be big days of reckoning as buyers are back in the drivers seat, and will no longer accept the BS.
Hey Kevin and Elizabeth! I’ve been test driving and researching vehicles for a year now and am finally ready to buy my first new truck. In my experience so far I have been to over two dozen domestic make dealerships and each of them but two were exactly like the sleazy list. Not sure if it’s a coincidence, but the few Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Subaru dealerships I went to were all fantastic and I felt good about myself after meeting with them.
The best salesman I ever dealt with was I'll call him "Bob". I entered the showroom, he came over introduced himself and asked me to feel free tom look around and when I needed help to please ask for him. Bob left me alone while I browsed. When I was ready I got Bobs attention and we made a great deal. He never pressured me, he answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable. we purchased 2 new & 1 used car from him and I recommended him to my whole family and friends. I know he sold at least 8 more cars to the people I recommended. When a salesperson does to me what that lady is teaching I immediately tell then to cut it out and back off with the games. I have always dealt on my terms. If they kept up the pressure I would just simply leave.
Haha! Just bought your bright pink tee! I will absolutely be wearing it when we go car shopping this fall! 😄🤩🤣

Going to wear it car shopping when we go - HA! 😄
I had a work colleague years ago who had a great comeback to all the touchy-feely questions: “Let’s just keep in mind that I’m negotiating with you to buy a machine!”.
A world of information, my note book is filling up……. It’s back to school. Thanks for the help and helping others. God Bless.
Good luck! Thanks for stopping by!
My car finally showed up and went down to the harbor and picked it up. During the inspection we talked about the car buying process. After she dropped her eyes and mentioned how they "got" her. So I told her about your channel and informed her she could reverse some if not recover fees and junk service she paid for. One big point is to get a copy of the contract and compare it to the one she received from the stealership. This lady deals with people picking up cats and trucks all day. You guys rocks.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Great story!
Damn this channel is awesome. My sales person called today to see if everything was good and how I was liking the car. And if I needed anything else. I told him so far everything is great.
I am currently following Kevin's game plan and have been pre-approved for a car loan through my credit union, I know what my trade-in is worth and I went to test drive two cars today that I am considering. I completely avoided discussing price and monthly payments. I was fully expecting to get push back about just test driving but got none. I will test drive two more cars (I am waiting to get a little closer to the end of the month). One of the next two dealerships is a "no-haggle" and after those test drives, I will be making a decision and going for "Serious Leverage." Thanks so much for the advice, I am learning a lot during this process.
I just want to say I have tried to buy a car, but if your not laying down right away, they just want you to leave. And that is the truth, in this market, what a bummer! You would be better off buying a car with a blown motor and just pay a mechanic to fix it.
I’m a car salesman, but I’m an order taker/tour-guide. My goal is to honor my clients by answering their questions honestly to best respect them. As a result, God has blessed me by bringing good people my way who have bought from me. I don’t really “sell” anything. People choose to buy from me when I demonstrate our product can help them as I take their orders (as cheesy as it sounds) as a humble servant. I love your channel, and I’m grateful for your channel!
This is why I keep vehicles so much longer (15+ years). I just don't want to deal with this bullsh*t. Between this channel and Scotty Kilmer, I may never buy a new car again.
We'll keep you between the lines, that's for sure!
That lady is NUTS. Lmao. It’s almost like she’s afraid of silence because she doesn’t want a moment to stop and actually think or observe
commenting to just boost the algorithm. You guys deserve millions of subscribers for your hard work! I hate that the youtube algorithm makes it easier for youtubers who specialize in clickbait content to get more views and subscribers instead of honest hardworking people who put out quality information.
It's funny. We just sat through a one hour session with one of UA-cam's coaches today. They were actually recommending a "click-bait" type video. Hmmmm...
Yes, the attention economy, ad-based business models and outrage porn are wreaking havoc in our society. Awesome work, THG team!
Perhaps walking backwards should be an Olympic sport. 😆
I think it should be too... lol. Apparently, there'd be a ton of Car Sales staff who would come try out since they've mastered the technique.
"SHIT for car buyers"... I don't know if it's intentional or not, but I'm 1000% here for it! 😂
Thank you.
This is great listening... I would have fun with her. Because I now walk in to the dealership, tell them what they need to know about me and my needs/wants following up with I don't care what the cost of the car is, I want to know what is the Out The Door (OTD) price and I am not buying anything today, but I will take your OTD price and compare it to other dealers to make sure you do what you are saying of guaranteeing the lowest price. I also tell jokes of some of the salesmen tricks they use. I had several salesmen laughing while I was handing it to the salesman and his boss the other day 😜
Now if they keep you 8 to 9 hours .
You can order food to delivery and only for you and eat in front of sales person on there desk and stay focused on out thee door Price and you could Tell them you are taking thee hourly fee for stalling you from price of car and out thee door Price ... Interested how Fast they get Out the Door Price quickly .
When the OTD price is all you will discuss they usually get there very quickly.
Will has it right. Stay focused on the OTD price, and they will cut to the chase much faster.
The last time I was at a new car dealership was back in 2002......haven't been to a dealership since.
It's not a place you go to have fun or hang out, that's for sure. This video does nothing to make you want to go back anytime soon, either... does it?
WOW! Andy Elliott's latest video tells the salesmen to CRUSH everyone. How is that helping a car buyer? NOT! Good job Kevin and the amazing Elizabeth.
Andy Elliott is just trying to sell his training. I don't think he bothers to realize that what he's peddling is just the same old stuff they were teaching in 1980. Nothing has changed, no matter how much these car trainers try to tell people it has.
The problem with car dealerships is the problem everywhere, one person can be great, the rest, suck. Others aren't rowing in the same direction and the people shopping there can see it.
True, there are plenty of bad apples. With a little work and due diligence, you can find the good guys. They are out there!
I'm new to your channel and I love all your content. The information you put out is invaluable. If you keep producing videos, I'll keep watching. Thank you.
Do not touch a child without the child's explicit permission
I'd add... also the parents consent. A stranger starts putting their hands on someone else's child is asking for bad repercussions.
@@KevinHunter yes sir, a sales manager, smelling to high heavens of cigarette smoke like his staff, actually pitched my young daughter's cheek, after my wife and I already decided not to do business with his misogynist salesman. 😡
@UCfI78J-aFdN1CsBwabZjR4w He is an Idiot. Sorry that happened to you.
Ah, the "order taker and tour guide" line, that was the insult management would frequently at Schier's Nissan. They drove away people like me who were lackluster salesmen but actually did research and knew all the ins/outs on all the Nissan inventory on the lot.
Their management drove away a lot of good people and then they wondered why they went out of business.
Yes. Customer Service oriented sales staff are constantly mocked at many car dealerships. "You're not a champion! You're not being tough enough!" they'd say. I heard a lot of that nonsense the first couple of months I was in the dealership, and then within 90 days I was number one on a staff of 26 sales people. That left them scratching their heads... lol
@@KevinHunterby chance did management or other reps bother to learn your approach? Or did they just continue business as usual?
My buddy worked in the car business for a few months. He used the 'tour' guide approach. Oh he even showed them the service dept, etc. After 3 months he had a total of 4 cars out at a place when the top Honda guy sold 35 and most averaged 20. Yea, he got launched.
Great video! I like going to dealerships, because I love cars!
Great information!
Way way back when I was just starting to sell cars around 86 or so, my manager told me "If you ever let a customer walk without TO them, then hold their hands and walk with them, because you will be fired on the spot"
When I go to a dealer showroom and I am approached by a sales person and they start babbling I usually tell them "I am here looking, if I want to talk to you, I'll let you know." If they continue babbling I walk! See my previous post!
And they will do the exact same thing to the next person without ever figuring out why they left.
She sounds a lot like Andy, actually. Just keep talking. And talking. It's about energy, and keeping customers back on their heels, even if you're just babbling.
At least she doesn't seem like she's on far too many uppers like him, despite the never-ending droning of hypocritical ideas being spewed left and right, lol.
😂😂😂😂She sounds very uninformed and ignorant what she teaching is going to make dealerships broke.
I had my keys taken right off the sales person desk,,.he grabbed them and said I will be your car appraised …I said fine but as the deal fell apart I ask him several times to get my keys…he said let me get my manger…when the manger came I said sorry it didn’t work can I have my keys….i started laughing and finally said listen give me my keys or I will use the spares in my car to leave and call the cops for theft of my vechike…he turned and ran…got my keys and said thanks for coming in ….lol to much fun. I only wanted the lease rates and payments of one car and the salesman wouldn’t give me either….amazed.
The last car I bought, the dealership would not give me my keys back after they assessed its value for trade in. I kept asking for the keys and nobody knew where they were. So after a while i went to the counter and asked the person there if I could use their phone, she said she could dial the number, who did I want to call. I had my cellphone in my pocket, but I told her to call the police, to tell them someone was in the process of stealing my call. Every manager in the building came running and after I got VERY loud I received a better deal than I thought I would.
How ridiculous! The attitude of this is my turf. It should be more like this is my money. Don't waste my time and don't waste my money. I work sales and I don't do that at all.
I've been a paint salesman for 40 years and you can literally ask me anything about your upcoming paint work. Something I do frequently after I explore the situation, ask questions for clarity about the job, and suggest the right prep and products for the job, is ask them to tell me how the job turned out. I have had many happy faces with this technique not because it makes me happy but because I truly want to know that they were successful with the fix for the problem. For painters and homeowners alike.
I know that this is anecdotal to this channel, but selling is selling. Forty dollar paint or forty thousand dollar car.
Loyal subscriber.
I am glad I never had to be in car sales!
When will you be producing a video on how to buy a Harley-Davidson. The charge almost $500.00+ for a prep charge on the bike tire insurance $900.00 for 2 years. I’m sure other motorcycle salesman have a whole host of charges. I do know that ceramic on a Harley-Davidson is $800+. Please we beg you to expose these guys! Thank you 🙏
I agree with you! Harley Davidson is always putting the squeeze on us financially!
We will put it on the schedule in the near future.
On a Saturday when I go out my wife tells her girlfriends that I went to see my other girlfriend and spend at least $100.00 every time I go! It’s crazy. $424.00 for your first 1000 mile service and that will take 3 hours out of your day!
@@KevinHunter Great, Thanks!
You guys are really great 👍
Ms. Elizabeth and Mr. Hunter, I spent 20 yrs as a corporate sales person. I represented a company that sold word finishing products, custom loose leaf binders, laminating machines among other products. I wasn't with a prospect to just close a sale, I was there because the prospect had a problem that I was to solve. I have found that the car dealers I do business with are very different then the ones you describe. I know the people at the dealership, they know me. I also have my vehicles serviced at the dealer. When I get my vehicles serviced it is not just a service visit, I am visiting friends. I choose to do business with smaller family owned dealers. That could be the difference in my experience. One of the dealers has been in business 90 years. I love your videos, but my personal experiences have been different. Oh, I still negotiate the sale.
The smaller family owned dealers is where the good guys can be found, no doubt. Unfortunately, they are being bought out at alarming rates. That's not good for the consumer, and not good for people like you and me who like to do business with people we've come to call our friends.
I just dealt with a skeevy dealer, found a car i had researched, was interested in and could afford - told him I had 20% down and showed him the blue book price, no trade initially offered on the deal. Told him no front loaded insurances, no extended warranties etc. Did the credit app, he messaged me back via text that the bank was willing to give me prime rate (no rate given) and as long as I was ok with bi-weekly he could get me at / under the price ceiling payment i'd stated.
So I told him i'd think about it and gave him 5 days to produce details
He kept badgering me to sign, BUT never told me the interest rate, never told me the final price, age of the car, trim model, or length of term.
When 5 days was up and I still had NOTHING beyond your payment is xxx bi-weekly, I told him no thank you. He immediately came back and said ' what if I give you 3 months no payment ' with no information. I still said no.
The best takeaway that these videos have given is the power move, say no, leave.
I would not want to deal with that lady at all. I do not want to be led anywhere. I'm the one wanting to buy, I don't need or want to feel like I have a bull-ring in my nose. Glad I found your channel so I know what to be aware of and have a "way out". I wish p[laces had "Transactions Agents" so I can get the service I need for the thing I want to spend money on.
#thehomeworkguy There is no better content out there for car buyers... and NO... YOU GUYS ROCK!
To expand on something I saw in the comments...
Beware of Auto Malls where various dealerships are owned by the same person/company.
They are less likely to deal to keep you from shopping other brands/dealerships when they
know the sister dealerships will hold the line on dealer markups.
Of course, do your research on various brands of comparable cars ahead of time anyway.
This woman is repulsive . Do these people really think we can't see through FAKE friendliness ?! Just absolutely terrible advice regarding a car shoppers child !!! TERRIBLE . That could get someone in the Hospital .. FAST . Would of for me and my kids . Good . as per . Be safe out there ... Gubs
She demonstrates what I refer to as a "plastic banana" friend. A plastic banana looks real until you have any interaction with it. In this case, the pretense is so thick, there's no doubt that an average person would be checking out the moment she got started.
@@KevinHunter Well said ! Exactly !
Very good.
I buy cars from a friend who owns both the Toyota and Hyundai dealers. I call him and tell him what I want and how much I expect to pay.He finds it, gives me the price. Buy the time I actually go to the dealership the deal is done and a salesman has been assigned to process the paperwork with no additional sales BS and get me out ASAP. Easy.
I used to like to go to a dealership early on Sunday mornings because there weren’t any salesmen around. But now the slime balls are there all the time.
Elizabeth of course is amazing...but I think a better nickname would be a bit more poetic: The Extraordinary Elizabeth ! Thanks Kevin and Elizabeth for your invaluable advice !!!
I'm sure Elizabeth will like to hear that. We'll be sure to pass it along!
Not only have I been through the bull of over 50 Dealerships. I have been fair with every salesman. Had to stand or walk for Hours due to "No comfortable chair in the Dealership's" . Walk out the door many times, due to unchanging prices,no negotiation at all,or very little. I even was thrown off of the sales floor , because I Questioned the Financial person, who raised the price (That he already counter offered) ,even the Salesman got mad at him for ,"blowing the deal". And I was Blocked by that Dealership from giving a comment to others ,on CarGurus site. The Dealership advertised later,a $2010 higher price, and claimed the price was cut by iver $400 .. Dealership's in my 50- mile area all charge $300 doc fees and $990-$995 dealer fee for detailing and fixing any tires or battery that is needed. Even when nothing was done, car is still dirty . Wow !!! And many change the numbers in financing as much as $2590 .
Ouch. You've been through a lot. They banned you from the car dealership? Have you thought of exposing them publicly for their actions? Sorry you had to go through this.....
It is especially hard to walk backward when wearing extra high high heel shoes!! That takes even more practice than walking backwards in flats
That's funny. You can actually hear the "clop clop" of the heels as she attempts to demonstrate her walk.
@@KevinHunter The only other question is whether we should feel sorry for her if she falls down off her high perch and sprains her ankle
I did a new car sales about 15+ years ago. Didn't last there more than fee months. Not because I was a bad salesman as much I couldn't handle the management style. Boy oh boy if you let a customer walk off the lot. Your ass will be handed to you. Boy oh Boy if you don't do the song and dance with the customer. I can say 8 out of 10 sales people WANT to be good sales people and service the customer, but the management in ALL dealerships are bunch of A-Holes sitting in what they call the TOWER, grinding the sales staff to the ground, forcing us to do everything THEIR way. It's a game they can't get out of. This is the main reason for the high turn over in the field
At the mega-dealer with huge lots, the tower was a real.....tower. They used binoculars and radios to steer greeters and salespeople to customers in the lots.
The funny thing is that buying SHOULD be an enjoyable experience. I have gone to see high end stereo speakers for my turntable setup, or subwoofers for my home theater at places like Magnolia at Best Buy and independent shops. The best salespeople share your love of the gear, listen to what you are looking for, and show knowledge of the subject. These people make you feel comfortable and valued. I'm potentially spending thousands of dollars on this stuff and when I feel ready to make a purchase I could screw them and buy the same speakers online but if they spent a good deal of time with me, I'll buy at the store as I have built a relationship with them.
Car salespeople? No mercy whatsoever. I prefer to buy privately to not deal with them. Buying a new Toyota or Lexus or whatever you plan on driving for the next 10 years should be fun and enjoyable but instead it is like hanging out with con artists and thieves who lie constantly, make up figures etc to screw you over. This lady acknowledges this several times yet teach salespeople to keep doing the very same thing that earned them that reputation.
Do they really make that much more money by ripping people off, or are they so set in their ways that they can't imagine that doing business ethically is not only the right thing to do but can ultimately be more profitable?
Thank you for the education you provide in an industry where so many seem concerned with nickel, diming and quartering you. How can the average person know much things unless someone immersed in the industry can talk to you about it so you can learn what to expect? I have just repaired my 2005 GMC Jimmy 4 x 4 and I know well enough never to trade it in because the dealership would only offer me a dozen doughnuts for it and any cash or credit will be miles below what the market value of it is. I have lately been seduced by the BMW "bug" and have my eyes on two types. 1. The BMW x5 with an inline 6 engine, specifically the B58. I know I cannot afford it new, and they depreciate hard so I am thinking of a sweet spot of around 2019 model. Can you tell me what is a fair price for such a beautiful beast? I've done my research and just want to see how close my figures are to your assessment. 2. BMW x3 iDrive 40 with the same B58 inline 6 engine and I am in BC in the GVA.
Hello Kevin, good to see you looking so well. How about a new pitch to your viewers and start calling Elizabeth the 'Homework Gal' She is appearing on most of your videos now, so let's give her the title she deserves !

Unwanted optional equipment/accessories which cannot be removed/discounted because its a factory add-on, not a dealer add-on.
What a lunatic woman. Sounds like she got pushed around a lot as a kid.
There's definitely something a little off base about her presentation, that's for sure. I'm guessing somebody gave her talking points, and she fumbled the ball.
Video lesson summary. "Since you have a bad reputation because you are a salesperson, make it worse". 🤣
All of this is based on leverage. Right now, car dealers have all of the leverage. No matter how prepared and strong willed, if you venture into a car dealership today you will not come out winning. You will be surrendering….your money.
I wouldn't buy anything from that saleswoman.
Oh boy, Andy and Jacqueline. They deserve one another! Is she for real? It's almost as if she really wants to tell the truth, but then catches herself and can't resist spewing the usual shady vehicle salespersons' nonsense.
That was my impression too. They deserve each other. I guess that makes them happy to have someone around who won't ask them questions about ethics.
Salesman: can I help you?
Me: hey, Siri, set an alarm for 1 hour. Sure, you have me for an hour...
I think you guys are missing the point she's trying to convey in this training. She's saying, "You're not an order taker or a tour guide." to tell them to not provide customer service... she's telling sales people that to instill confidence in them to have a confident demeanor when in front of the customer. You cannot sell something you're not 100% sold on yourself. If you lack confidence in presenting a product the customer is going to lack confidence in purchasing. A sales process is basically a transfer of confidence from the seller to the buyer.
even with adny's wife, they have that cruddy music
They have interesting music taste, to be sure.. and then they overlay a poorly recorded video with it.
If you were a Hollywood casting director and needed someone to play a shifty saleswoman, this video would be the jackpot...
Andy Elliotts wife benefited from his crooked actions. As far as I'm concerned, they are cut from the same cloth.
@@KevinHunter In one of his videos he says: 'OK, here's the misdirection....'
How accurate is the auto-pro guy on the radio and arrangement with dealership owners or GMs! I’m considering trading in my 2009 Expedition King Ranch
I believe that customers just want a salesperson that communicates like a real person. The salesperson schtick and song and dance is a major turnoff.
Yes it is.
I think the point she was trying to make at first is if a salesperson just shows a customer everything cool and doesn’t help them narrow down their search and find a car that fits their needs, customers get frustrated and want to leave. It’s too many choices. What a customer says they want vs what they really want and need are two different things. I’ve had customers tell me they wanted a 3rd row suv and found out through narrowing it down that they just wanted a new van with more tech and really didn’t want a 3rd row suv.
Nothing wrong with helping a customer narrow down their choices. That's actually what a very good waitress or waiter does in a restaurant. You say you're looking for a burger, they tell you which options you have, and even what they recommend if you ask. That's very helpful, yet car dealers mock that style as being a weak "order taker." What are your thoughts? Doesn't that sound like a much friendlier style of dealing with people?

I dont think using overworked, poverty wage earning, and abused resturant workers who are quiting in mass should be the ideal worker for a sales profession. They get mistreated all day, beg for tips , and follow up dozens of times in a very short time peroid. Most US car shoppers would freak out at that kind of follow up.
The idea of an "order taker" is someone unable to build value/ find wants and needs to earn a sale. They aren't a consultant. It's not an insult saying "they aren't a shark killer closer" but just that they don't recognize that buyers have a process and don't have a process to do their job which is to help you find a car ! I want an active professional if I'm going to spend that much on the 2nd biggest financial decision of my life, a consultant. Not someone who is going to waste my time and not take the time to help me. It's all semantics anyway or maybe it's a regional insult . I've worked in a dealership for years and only really heard one guy called that once and it was because he would spend a lot of time with customers with a clipboard like a waiter and never seemed to have much luck and his customers didn't seem to thrilled either.
Ok Kevin first time I watched the outro. Nice shades man!
You noticed that, huh? Well done!
Another great video Kevin. I’ve been looking for a 2018 Honda Accord and doing my research on it, and in doing my research I’ve found out that there’s a shortage of cars at the moment. I was planning to take your advice from one of your previous videos and offering 5% plus a couple hundreds dollars over the kbb value. I was wondering if you would suggest bumping that percentage up a bit because of the car shortage? Thanks
Best advice yet :)
I can attest to being mocked if you show good customer service. That is until you sell cars. Then they stfu
You got that right. When the cream rises to the top, the skim milk stops claiming the cream is stupid. Provide great customer service, and kick some butt!
This crap has been in the industry for a very long time because of these trainers!
To be exact, since the late 1970's. Gallup does a poll every year on the most to least trusted professions, and this type of behavior has kept the car business on the bottom for 45 years. Pretty incredible.
@@KevinHunter I really wanted serve clients in this industry because of my love of cars and client service. I just could not do it because I felt dirty after each day.
She is scary! If I saw her in a dealership, I would run!
I buy my cars at GSA Auctions because I can`t stand walking in to a dealership or dealing with curbstoners.
That's a good way to do it. Buy from the auctions direct.
Also I just put it on a credit card and use a promotion like 0 interest for 18 months on a balance transfer. If you you buy from a dealer they want you to buy full coverage and use their bank to get a loan. I don`t buy full coverage on a 5.000dollar car because it is not worth it. I only buy what the state says I have to.
If a salesperson uses their skills and knowledge to increase profits, and push products for any company, then that company should be liable for the “salespersons” salary.
But they dont.
The company that the “salesperson” is working for, actually gets the bulk of their salaries paid by “commission”.
The actual “salaries” are very small, usually minimum wage…so they depend heavily on those “commisions” .
The average commission for a car sale is about $250. And the average salary for a salesman is about 40,000 a year. Not a hell of a lot.
What i usually do is pull the salesman to the side and tell him if he can get me this car or truck for this price, i will pay him $400 cash on the side. NO games. NO bullshit fees.
NO padding the deal.
Has worked great for me so far.
I think most people don't really care what the salesperson makes per car and would rather not have to personally tip them. Hence channels like this one. But if you've found a method that works for you, that's definitely good.
It's wild just how BLIND they are to their own words, "hey we have a bad rep, but here's how you continue to be a jerk by treating your customer like an ATM instead of a human being!!"
Right? Who says "We have such a bad reputation" and then fails to follow up with "so we need to make some big changes in how we treat people?" Pretty weird, but not surprising. There's something in the water at a car dealership.
REMEMBER: you are in control; you have what the dealership needs - money.
I wonder how often she trips and falls if she is dead set on walking backwards all day.
I absolutely Love the way you expose these tactics. Picking them apart. They literally sound like socialists. You obliterate these scammers. I have asked myself if they actually listen to themselves. Keep up the excellent analisis.
Thanks Joseph! We enjoy sharing their content, and giving our reviews. I'm sure they appreciate it as much as you do.. lol
You have 2 Truly care for them
Fake caring means nothing. Actually caring means everything. Super easy to sell cars to people when they know you are sincere. Super easy.
they almost always follow ... as i am walking out the door ... creepy
If you can squeeze a word in while I'm there.
Read yep reviews and restaurant get a bad one mainly because of the waitrs
Thanks for this video is easier for me to share it in social media if it has subtitles at least in English so I can translate to Spanish a few videos recently including this one the latest are shown by UA-cam without automatic subtitles but I suspect is UA-cam not any of you at the Homework Guy Channel thanks
It's definitely UA-cam doing it.
If this is your house, you pay the bills. I can rent time with someone else.
They are sneaky for sure
When I encounter these type of salespeople I just leave. This woman is deluded.
Kenvin would it be a good idea to ask a salesman what would be the difference in monthly payments for leasing or buying?
Yeah I actually bought a car I hate because they practiced good customer service and have me a great deal and worked with me when they didn't want to, this lady is totally crazy and when I have problems they talk to me like a human I mean come on now.
