    You can do a test print from the dialogs on the printer itself see which colors are not printing on the test print... fyi ~ if it's telling you to replace the cartridge many times you don't need to. Simply reset the cartridge / page counter. Then shake the cartridge and put it back in.

    Thanks very much. I like you have been fed up wasting my time and money with ink jets and have decided to take the plunge to a more serious printer. You've made my printer shopping experience much easier with these videos. The other printer I was considering is a Fuji Xerox but your video has swung this decision in favour of the Brother. Sorry I can't help you out in return by using the Amazon link - the shipping costs to Australia would be as much as the printer.

    Hi Matthew, thanks for the insightful review; I really appreciate your candidness. I was wondering if you could elaborate or do a video on the pass-through feature with irregular (heavier) paper. You mention in the video that in the future you might try printing post cards. I would be curious to see it prints on heaver paper weight and double sided; perhaps if you were to pass through printing on paper bags (material that has a bit more thickness to it), would the printer be robust enough to accommodate this type of printing.

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  8 років тому +1

      +bigfishnerd I'm not sure about a paper bag. I have done quite a few post cards now. You have to use the bypass door on the back so it goes straight out and you cannot do duplex printing when you use the really heavy stock but other than that I've not had any trouble. However a paper bag is several folds of paper so I'm really not sure how it would take that. I'd probably do a sticker and transfer the print onto the bag that way.

    • @JamesTCap
      @JamesTCap 8 років тому +2

      *****, thanks for your response and I'll keep looking for alternatives. Its good to hear that the post cards go through the printer well. I think through your vids you demonstrate that this printer is a good overall printer for business and I might actually purchase one in the end for admin purposes as opposed to product creation printing.

    Did you ever get a chance to print off any photos? What was your impression? I am looking for a printer that can do photo cards. I don'tneed the photos to look like something in national geagraphic but I also want them to still look very nice. The scanning and copying features are a bonus, but I figure if I get something they may as well be built in.

    Questions: How toner cartriges bring? How many pages could you print? Is the Automatic documents feeder double sided?

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  9 років тому

      The MFC9330CDW is full duplex / prints on both sides. It takes 4 toner cartridges black, cyan, magenta, and blue. I've reloaded cartridges and bought a new set. Got nearly 10,000 prints out of the printer, drums, and waste toner bin so far without any trouble. I couldn't say exactly how many pages each cartridge can print. However, it's pretty decent, especially if you reset as the printer will tell you they are empty before they ever are. It's very cheap printer to operate. I also reload toner in the cartridges and get a couple reloads out of each cartridge before I have to throw them out.

    1 - I can't print multiple documents using PDF; I updated my Adobe and still it will only print one document. If I used WORD it will print multiple documents
    2 - If I download a document from email (GMAIL) it makes me save the document before I can print.

      R Elston here's the link goo.gl/pvxyyv (it's also in description if you scroll up). Little update, I'm confident I've printed over 20,000 pages with mine now cannot say exactly as the unit went out and brother helped me rebuild it. I'm a real estate agent and print constantly. Honestly, it's an indestructible office copy station but darn, it's seriously like the little train that could... It's still chugging along and printing even after resetting the drums a few times. I did have one blooper, I tried to pull a jammed paper out of the fuser and ripped it. Brother sent me a new unit (minus drums, cartridges and waste tray). They paid all shipping and turn around time was FAST. I've also reloaded cartridges many times and they seem to work with reasonable quality but best best it always new... I found these are VERY affordable, goo.gl/5HA5EU Long story short, some of the best office equipment I've bought yet.

    Hi, In the pictures of this printer (which you can see on Brother's website, for example), you can see a numpad on the right of the touch screen. In your video I can't see it. Is it there, and the video is just dark?

    Could you please check for me how it is "attached" to surface? Whether the whole of its bottom is attached to the surface or whether there are 4 attachments to get the machine laid flat on the surface?
    The reason i am asking is because this machine is 8 cm longer in depth than the area that is available to me. If the whole of its bottom could attach to the surface, that would still fit even though its depth exceeds a bit.
    Thank you!

      @matthewjeschke  9 років тому

      Wilson Wong I'm a little confused? Are you referring to how the printer rests on the table? I see 4 little rubber pads to keep it slightly elevated and from scratching the surface of your desk / counter top. Let me know if that answers your question :)

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  8 років тому +1

      +Gb Xx I honestly feel an inkjet would better serve you if you're looking to print photos. However, high volume acceptable (to good) quality color print is what this does. Laser isn't really meant to do photo prints. That said, I do have photos on my wall I printed with this printer. They look as good as anything I'd have printed by a print shop. However, the printer quickly runs out of toner doing that or you end up with small anomalies if you do it often enough. Really I don't feel this is a printer to do picture prints though. I use it to make flyers for my listings for which it does a decent enough job.

    • @gbxx6692
      @gbxx6692 8 років тому

      i understand that color pics may not exceed 600dpi.. but its not a deal breaker. most of my printing will be b&w, maybe with mixed color. ive noticed that as toner goes low or corona wires/drum wear issue regardless of which cartridge it pulls from, images get blurry.. this is with most laser printers, just their natutre... just a maintenance issue when you do volume prints

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  8 років тому

      It's a personal feeling but I don't feel as though printing much over 300DPI results in a higher quality image. Most professional printing is kept at around 300 dpi

    • @tmc8080
      @tmc8080 8 років тому

      There are no chips, the counters are all internal programming by page number. This is one selling point of the brother laser printer line. Nearly all the others have chips which can raise the cost of refilling. Oddly enough, I think the brother inkjets do have them-- but not lasers. (all inkjet mfg now chip their cartridges with FEW exceptions- but there are workarounds & 3rd party chips to refill)

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  9 років тому

      The MFC9330CDW as I reviewed printer uses an LED. I don't know how to tell which process a printer uses other than reviewing the manufacturers documentation. And I couldn't tell you which process is better LED or Laser. However, what I can tell you is I've had no issues with print quality using my printer which uses the LED print process. I've even printed 8x10 photographs and framed them. They looked fantastic. I have also printed over 10,000 pages with no major issues yet, until recently the fuser unit went out. I believe possibly because of a paper jam that broke off a roller and ripped the fuser unit. Brother is rush mailing me a new printer at no cost! I was amazed with their customer support!

    What is the cost by color printing of the printer?

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  7 років тому

      Excellent question. I couldn't say for sure. I get a complete set of toner now for about $80. It really depends on how much toner you use... how large the color prints are. eg. printing photos versus printing text. The tone seems to last a very long time. I'd imagine I've got it down to a very low cost but couldn't say exactly. I seldom change the toner... but I print less and less these days too. Sorry for the ambiguous answer, truth is, I'm not sure what it costs me to print.

    how to get a fax transmission report

    i just got one of these and there was no belt unit in it, nor do I see where the waste toner box is

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  9 років тому

      The waste toner I believe is under the cartridges between the cartridges, drums, and paper tray. I'm not sure what a belt unit it.

    • @tmc8080
      @tmc8080 8 років тому

      the belt unit is under the cartridges, it is wide and black with a green tab for removal. if your unit did NOT come with a belt unit it would NOT WORK! the waste toner box is underneath that... check out some videos on the waste toner extraction, they show what the belt unit looks like upon removal. youtube: brother waste toner removal.

      Tim Smith Thanks Tim. Since shooting this video I have become better antiquated with this printer. I've actually completely taken a couple of them apart now. If anybody is confused by my explanation in the video please see Tim's response above. Thanks!

    any problems with it

      I have printed quite a few boxes of printer paper... I had to replace the drums (I think I could have got more life out of them but cleaned them with 70% alcohol and left a residue). I accidentally ripped the fuser too. A paper got jammed and I pulled it out without releasing the tension. Other than that it's cranking away like a rock star yet.

    I can't get the printer to print Envelopes correctly????

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  7 років тому

      Do you use the manual feed tray? If you use that and then open the bypass door (on back) I think it should work... I have not printed envelopes before though.

    • @lisaengland9947
      @lisaengland9947 7 років тому

      Matthew Jeschke I do but the format is off it prints the mailing address at the top of the envelope and no return address

    • @matthewjeschke

      What software are you using? I wounder if it has your page size wrong? You could try passing 8.5x11 sheet through to see where it's applying the text in relation to the manual feed. Just a thought.

      +Tim Smith yeah they've really come down in price :) Almost cheaper to buy new cartridges than reload them anymore.

      +Matthew Jeschke Where do you buy the ink cartridges inexpensive?

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  8 років тому

      I've had the best luck with these right here goo.gl/5HA5EU I get most everything off Amazon :) Have ordered quite a few of the replacements now as I print many thousands of pages and tend to go through quite a bit of toner.

      +Matthew Jeschke Do you print property brochures? I need to print quite a few a month. They are double sided and my daughter and I cannot get it to work properly. Prints one side and slow!

    • @tmc8080
      @tmc8080 8 років тому

      double side printing is about half as fast, single side is faster, but only as a single job, once you send the printer multiple jobs it will be slower... almost any low to mid grade toner based system printer would under similar circumstance

    wondering how many pages, black and white or color you normally get?

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  9 років тому

      I don't really keep track. I do know I had to reset the cartridge a couple times though. I recently started using generic linkyo cartridges goo.gl/5HA5EU as well which seem to be lasting virtually forever. I print LOTS of full color picture flyers so even if I did keep count it probably would be far less than what you'd get :)

    i bought 2 epson printer and less than year both of them out and down.
    im frustrated i cant depend on this.
    in all i have 4 printer...none not good.
    now im consider to buy this brother printer

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  9 років тому

      Yeah, I had an epson that was the most expensive consumer grade inkjet they made. I bet it didn't even print a single 500 page stack of paper before it went south. I'll NEVER buy espon again. Then I had a Canon inkjet which actually worked VERY nicely. It was a great inkjet but I needed laser / led since I print such high volume now. The Brother has been very reliable. Reloading toner cartidges has been hit or miss but I've been able to reload quite a few with good results extending the life of some toner cartidges and saving a little more money yet. It's a very durable and good printer. I recommend it. (I've printed nearly 10,000 pages with it so far :)

      a next question.
      what is the difference between this and the MFCL8600CDW

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  9 років тому

      Excellent question... I thought maybe it was full duplex scanning but it doesn't do that either. At first glance looks like a newer version of the MFC-9330 CDW. Let me know if you're able to figure out the difference. May take a call to brother to ask.
