@@cloudslut7 I'd have a different ranking but I agree that those 3 are the superior ones. That's not to say the rest isn't good, I think all the Harry Potter scores are somewhat great. But these 3 are the most unique to the characters and tone.
It annoys me that people think there is only romance. This film has so much to offer : soundtrack, the dark vibe and the photography. In This movie, people try to laugh ,love and forget the return of Voldemort. I love the mystery behind The Half Blood Prince Book and malfoy’s mission is so dark. The scene after Dumbledore’s death is the best scene of the saga for me... Please recognize This movie as its true value ( english is not my principal language so sorry for fault)
I have to talk about how great the Harry and hermione scene was: In that scene, hermione was with her best friend, Harry, and was crying. And right above her, as the camera moved, were Ron and lavender, snogging. So it showed two happy moments: hermione with her best friends shoulder, and Ron with his first love. And then, the camera moved from the happy scene, where people were TOGETHER, and went to Draco, standing alone, in the astronomy tower, depressed. It just shows a very subtle moment, which transition from people, to someone alone. From someone happy, to someone depressed. From someone with best friends to be with, to someone who has no friends. It says a lot without a word. And that is why I like the movie.
I've never understood why people dislike this movie as much as they do. It's very well done. The only problem I have with it and Deathly Hallows is that I can't see what's happening because it gets really dark. Other than that It's a very enjoyable film.
The screenplay imo is very cringey but the cinematography and soundtrack made up for it big time. Bruno DelBonnel, the cinematographer, has worked with several movies that are considered standards in modern cinematography.
I used to say Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite but strangely the more I rewatch the entire franchise, the more I appreciate Half Blood Prince and now it's my favorite film out of all of them.
This is my favourite film, like I know all the quotes from it and remember watching it on holiday with my dad, it’s become one of my comfort films for whenever I’m feeling sad
I remember not really liking this movie when I first saw in theaters, but I just recently rewatched it yesterday and realized that it's a lot better than I remembered, maybe because I got older I appreciated the darker tone it was going for
I didn't dislike it as a kid, but it just never stood out to me. When I rewatched it at 16 years old it just really effected me, both in it's immaculate filmmaking which I payed more attention to but also the darker themes of the film. I think it's a more subtle film, it's darkness lies mostly under the surface. And I'd say it's the most existential film in the franchise.
By far the most cinematic of all the films! My second favorite. I thought even though it left out some of Voldemort’s past the films already did a good job of showing how similar he was to Harry as a boy
The only thing I trully hate about this movie is the Ginny- Harry interaction (fake and awkward). I also kind of hated the orange- yellowish hue of the film ( I don't much like these colours, they make me uncomfortable), but now I realize the hue choice was perfect- it was supposed to make the viewer feel uncomfortable - evoking the last flickers of hot summer light before cold, grey, unpleasant autumn sets in. The last thing that upsets me about the movie is that Snape has so little time on screen, which is kind of unfair, since the title is ABOUT HIM, and every other movie gives the DADA teacher a prominent place in the story. Apart from all that, the movie is delightful, and certainly one of my favourite, second only to Prisoner of Azkaban, maybe.
I think you do very well when it comes down to constructive criticism. That's really great and your arguments are quite good. But from my point of view, there is one thing about the film that can't be justified: Ginny. The film made her look like some random girl and people who only watch the movies will just recognise her as "Harry's girlfriend", even though she has got such a strong, funny and - most of all - brave personality. And over the years she learned to stay normal - even when she was with Harry. That movie drew Ginny with the wrong brush. I love her in the books, but the Ginny one might know from the movies is unlike herself.
i completely agree. ginny was butchered in every movie, but i think steve kloves had the opportunity to make her something more in HBP, but he unfortunately didn’t take it.
@@waywardgranger so true! In the movies I found her terribly plain (slow in reactions, very boring in terms of dialogue... I guess it's not the actress' fault, but I somehow feel she didn't put too much heart into her role either- just learned the lines and delivered them) When I finally read the books- Ginny impressed me: clever, funny, pretty, talented, very very popular, brave and tough. Harry has every reason to like her. If the movie kept some Ginny scenes from the book ( ex the kiss after the Quidditch match) the H+G relationship would have unfolded much more naturally
3 yrs late to this but i genuinely feel for the people who dislike this movie. It is genuinely such a comforting movie and its my favorite one of out all the harry potter films. I've watched this movie so many times and i still watch it often. It's just so calm. I personally love this movie for 2 reasons, relationships between characters & draco's internal dilemma. I love that this movie focuses so much on their friendships and relationships (excluding harry and ginny, wtv that was). Their conversations are simple, cute and witty. The bond that harry and hermione have as real and honest best friends is SO beautiful and not only just hermione but Harry and Luna being cute cute side besties its just TOOO good. Its such a simple angsty teen film with angsty teen high school problems and i love the humanity and simplicity of it. Also, how it goes from Draco being proud and excited to have the dark mark and been chosen to do such a horrific act, and then to see him STRUGGLE and basically start internally crippling at his actual reality. Slowly and painfully realizing the reality of what his prejudices mean, and that he clearly does not like it, does not want to part take, does not want to kill, but that's all he's known and he can't really back out now is WILD and sad. That scene of him crying in the room of requirement in front of the vanishing cabinet, where u don't even actually see him but HEAR him crying, it's just sooo good and heartbreaking. Idk sometimes the other films feel like its always harry doing this and that but rarely interacting with his best friends. This movie feels the complete opposite of that. The cinematography is also just unreal. This is probably the only movie that sucks me into a specific imagery, nostalgia and aesthetic to hogwarts enough to create a pinterest board lol. Idk i just truly love this movie😭 -EDIT TO INCLUDE ALSO, THERES A DELETED SCENE I DID NOT KNOW EXISTED UNTIL THIS YEAR CRAZY, IK AFTER WATCHING IT SO MANY TIMES ANYWAY THIS SCENE WHERE THE VIBE SHIFTS and it pans to different characters getting this eerie feeling looking up and the sky before harry and dumbledore came back from getting the horcrux and it ends panning to draco on his bed wide awake waiting for the moment, getting up and ready to commit THE moment of killing dumbledore while IN NOCTEM plays in the back it gives me CHILLLSS. BREATHTAKING. JUST WOW. IDK WHY THEY CUT IT OFF ITS JUST SO GOOD OF A SCENE. Peacock added the deleted scenes into the final cuts of all the harry potter movies so that scene just blends in SO well and it drives me crazy that it didn't make the final cut it TRULY sets the tone for what's to come. The big shift that will change everything forever. OK SORRY I GOT CARRIED AWAY BUT THAT SCENE IS TRULY AMAZING
Yeah because they don’t care to understand it fully. I love the cinematography speaking from a filmmaker standpoint but the story and the romance does nothing for me. It’s crammed in and very out of character the way they react. I came out of film feeling more sad that lavender and Ron were split even though they were being all lovey dovey over each other because he was now back to being stuck in the arguementive toxic boring relationship that they had set up in the previous films. I can understand why they added more romance to this film so that it balances the darkness of the last two films but it didn’t achieve on writing a coherent story that justifies the characters action. I came out thinking how toxic Hermione was for threatening Ron just because he was in a happy relationship that had nothing to do with her and Harry’s sudden “I found my life partner” after barely speaking or even acknowledging her in the previous four films and I am speaking from the films standpoint. Read the book and you’ll notice the details are more heavily focused on his school life, bonding with Slughorn to steal his memory and delving into Voldemort’s memories for intriguing clues. There’s additional romance plots in the book but at no point we’re they weepy, dreary, toxic or boring
The best detail in the book, Voldemort asking for job and Defend agaisnt dark art teaching and Dumbledoor was not allowed it. Then he cursed all the teachers whoms want this class. Thats why dumbledor always let lame and spendable people to get this class. Also he let Lupin coz he is already Wolfbane curse. Also we all now when finally Snape get that class, his life ruined and he is also died. Best detail about entire series.
Also (just my opinion) but I think another reason the burrow being attacked was in the movie was to show how brave Ginny is. As soon as Harry goes to chase Bellatrix, without a second thought, In her bathrobe, she pulls out her wand and runs after Harry. I think this also shows just how much Ginny loves Harry and how much she’ll do for him. Since the movies didn’t give us enough time to show Ginnys bravery and fearlessness I think this was a good way of doing so.
The burrow scene is good, but it doesn’t make sense. In the half blood prince, it burns right? But then in the next movie, it as good as new. They don’t have enough money to get it repaired, not to mention it couldn’t get fixed that quickly
My favorite movie of franchise. This movie is so atmospheric.. and music and character's relationships and cinematography and dark tone.. I don't know more said about that.. That's a unreal magic this movie
I binged watched all the Harry Potter movies and I didn't even notice that half blood prince was one of them I thought it was just part of deathly hallows
Great analysis! One thing I’d add is Jim Broadbent’s performance as Slughorn. Strikes such a delicate balance of oddness, comedy, and pathos...his telling of the story of Lily’s present (and the composition of the shot, with Hagrid’s large furniture shrinking him) is devastating and one of the best acting showcases in the entire franchise.
YES! i completely agree. he is excellent in this role; one of the best actors in the series imo! that scene about lily in hagrid’s hut is one of my absolute favorites in the series! glad you brought it up
Wow, awesome analysis! Was caught off guard to see this made by the same person that made ‘Seamus finnigan being legendary’ and all of the other goofy edits. The video itself was great too, good editing and pacing made it seem super professional! I never really thought of this one much as worse than the rest, but I know people do. I think the point that JK prioritized staying true to the characters and their development the most is important. It’s really that and worldbuilding that make the series, and we get enough character of Voldemort shown in the movies to make the story work, and show his ambitions.
The movie was genius. All it messed up was some characters(especially Ginny). I think the film would've done incredibly well if they had added just one or two more Voldemort memories in the middle of the second act(that's where the movie gets sort of boring as there's little dark stuff and mainly comedy). I would've liked the Morfin memory as it shows Voldemort's abilities at that young age and we could've had a chamber of secrets reference. The movie excelled at bringing a silent yet thrilling story to the screen. The book was supposed to do this and it certainly did in the start but during the major chunk of the Hogwarts times very teeny. While the movie had more teeny scenes, it wasn't as teeny in magnitude as compared to the books. The book to me felt "noisy" sort of similar to OoTP and DH two books where the noise was the one that made them special. Whereas this was a silent tale. The movie artistically brought this and sadly it led to its downfall as the silent masterful scenes can easily be overshadowed by a couple of scenes they messed up. I think that's why people hate it. It's not a "fan" film, if this movie could've worked on its character development in just a handful of scenes, I would say that HBP film did what is right and not what is easy.
Maybe it’s because the 6th is one of my favourite of the books, but I think the movie is one of the better in the series. It’s artistically shot, the atmosphere is great, the score is wonderful and as usual, the cast all give excellent performances.
HBP is also one of my favourites though I wished that Ginny and Harry would have been given more time. But I think the movie gives us one of the best sequences which is the Felix Felicis part of the movie. The scene at Hagrids is so heartfelt and genuine Great essay btw!
I love The Half-Blood Prince because it gives us more depth to Voldemort, but most importantly, Draco. We see Draco break down a few times because deep down, he doesn’t want to be like his father/kill Dumbledore
I never ever understood why ppl hate this movie, they have it the worse HP, they even put it lower the Fantastic Beasts movies ( LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO NOOOOO COMMENT) NOT EVEN CLOSE They’re sooo many AMAZING SCENES in this movie that I LOVE 1 - THE CINEMATOGRAPHY IS GOLDEN, this & Prisoner Azkaban have the best cinematography, they just feel soo different from the rest 2 - IT HAS THE BEST HP OPENING 3 - The soundtrack ( again it feels so diff from the rest) 4 - Dumbledore’s speech about Voldemort 5 - Voldemort’s past 6 - Harry & Slughorns scenes 7 - THE BURROW idk why is everyone is bitching that scene is SOOO INTENSE 8 - Harry & Malfoy going at it 9 - Malfoy wasn’t a useless bitch 10 - The whole ending, Harry & Dumbledore going too the Cliff of Moher, Harry making Dumbledore drink that shit & Dumbledore is like EWWWW, Snape killing Dumbledore, Snape telling Harry he’s the Half Blood Prince & every one at Hogwarts pointing there wands at Voldemort Ok the relationship between Ron & Hermione was starting too get annoying but it wasn’t like that in Goblet of Fire too??? Ginny wasn’t wooden since day 1??? I LOVE ALL THE HP MOVIES THERE’S NOT A SINGLE BAD 1 but if you ask me which is my favorite one’s it’s a toss up between Prisoner of Azkaban
youre spot on in the first 30 seconds. I havent read the books and my favourite films are 5 & 6. Im not a film nerd but I understand movie language and what makes a film good, and yea i was super surprised when I found out this movie was ranked as one of the worst HP movies
This is my absolute favorite HP film, so this video makes me feel pretty damn vindicated. And your analysis of the cinematography and color palate of the film just made me love it 10x more which I didn’t even think was possible.
Yes!! that's why this is my favorite movie. in my opinion, it is the most comforting and relaxed movie, but has a lot of important scenes that happen to set you off for the next movies; which are increasingly more intense. It's the best movie, my favorite, I cant even understand when people say this is their least favorite. very well said
i love that you made this literally like a week ago haha i just rewatched this film like... maybe four days ago? and every TIME i watch it i'm like this is the BEST one.... if not for the cinematography alone. it truly is gorgeous and i love how you recognized and appreciated every single aspect of why i love this film. Symmetry in particular is so important and i love how they play with it in parallel to (especially) Draco's internal struggle with what he has been called upon. the black and white birds?? come on clear metaphorical devices!!!!!!! also i LOVE how how you mentioned that this is the most *calm* of all of the films. that's another reason i love it... even the score by Nicholas Hooper is very calming and how they managed to keep a sense of tranquility while also introducing the concept of Horcruxes was impressive in and of itself. this is the best Harry Potter film idc!!! idc!!!!!!
Beautiful vid. You made me realize why HP71-2 was so impactful when I was watching the fall of Hogwarts. Because HP6 took time to have me get even more attached to the students and the school.
Love is a big theme in Harry Potter, and this movie really establishes that along with more emotional context. It's the perfect precursor to the next films
I like the movie, but the scene where the death eathers destroy the Weasley's home was not necesary. That time could have been used for other things, for example they could have included more of Voldemort's past.
It's really good as a movie but not so good as an adaptation. I enjoy watching it but it's still my least favourite movie because I find it a little disappointing.
I really like how you explained how the visuals and the aesthetic experience of this movie add to the narrative. Especially with book to movie adaptations people tend to forget how much can be said without words and, personally speaking, I just love beautiful movies hahahaha
I always thought The Half-Blood Prince was by far the best. The closest to catching J.K. Rowling's magic. But then again, I absolutely loathe movies in general. So naturally, one that I favor will not likely draw the favor of your usual movie audience.
Finally! The book is my favorite in the series, and while the movie isn’t as faithful, it’s pretty darn good. Honestly I like the book for the stuff besides the memories-Slughorn’s character, the sudden sense of urgency with us hearing about these random kidnappings/killings (Florean Fortescue, Ollivander), and Harry’s rivalry with Draco, showing a massive flaw to his character. The movie gave us just about all of these, and the acting was, I’d say, the best in the series. Gambon’s performance in the cave scene left me speechless with how amazing it was.
Agreed. This is my favorite of the HP movies. I've always liked it the best. It's the last time the trio get to be kids/teenagers and have some love angst that isn't too serious. It both closes the Hogwarts school period of Harry's life and sets up Deathly Hallows.
I don’t like it bc they didn’t add Harry and Ginny’s first kiss because that’s when their relationship started and in the movies Harry and Ginny had the wrong first kiss that wasn’t even in the books!
This is my second favorite Potter film. I think it’s severely underrated, and this video does an excellent job explaining why it works. Also came across some of your music and it’s really good stuff! Keep up the good work!
This was a great video essay! I believe this is the definitive Golden Trio film! If you love watching a lot of Harry, Ron, and Hermione then this film is for you 😉.
I definitely am curious on your take of how the Half Blood Prince film focuses on Snape. Because the book was intricately woven that way, but the Half Blood Prince film feels like a last school year that builds up into Harry's responsibility in defeating Voldemort. While the book focuses on that, it also showed how Snape was woven into the story as a means to protect Draco and follow Dumbledore's orders. I get how the film wanted to show a yin yang kind of look of Harry following Dumbledore and Draco failing on following Voldemort, but Snape's reveal compared to the book wasn't as eye widening as the film's take.
this is so interesting! i did not previously think much of snape’s role in the film. i do agree that the reveal + snape’s presence was significantly downplayed in the movie. i do think the focus on harry/draco may have been more important for time sake, but it is a shame that snape didn’t get the focus he did in the book. his relationship with draco and with other characters was an interesting part of the book.
@@waywardgranger I just know when it comes to Harry Potter every title is very significant and not just a side subplot and so that's just really one of my criticisms overall is it didn't represent the title to the fullest. Otherwise your video really broadened my perspective of the movie in a whole. :)
So glad someone else agrees. Not only that but the acting a dialogue in this film is arguably the strongest. I love they way the film is shot with darker tones and some of the visuals are the best. It's literally my second favourite after the Prisoner Of Azakaban as that is just masterful imo.
Some simple changes could have made this movie great. Including a lighter color theme, an extra scene or two (literally, that's all we need) of voldemorts backstory, hopefully the gaunt family origins. And one or two less lavender/Ron scenes. So close to greatness
One comedic scene which I think could have still been kept if they were making a more faithful adaptation is the line ‘Why is it when something happens it’s always you three?’
I will say right up front that I didn't like the Half Blood Prince movie, but I always prefer to seek to understand before I'm understood and this video opened my eyes more to those who enjoy the film. Videos like these help me enjoy movies I didn't enjoy as much before. Keep up the good work :)
I always had a lot of problems with this films and still do, like how the relationships were WRITTEN (Especially Hinny) brcause it lowkey looks like a rom-con, but overall it did kind of a good job, i think its a masterpiece when it comes to cinematic.
I only didnt like how the battle of the astronomy tower was cut. I know they said it would become repetitive as next movies would also have fights like this but still if they had kept that scene then this movie would be one of the best.
I agree, but it's mainly three things i don't like. 1. Dumbledore asking if it's something more than friendship between Harry and Hermione. That very out of character. 2. Tom Riddle saying "I can make bad things happen to people who are MEAN to me." That makes it sound like he was bullied, when it was the complete opposite. 3. Sometimes it's so dark that i can't see what's happening.
I think you argued your point well: that being said I think that the relationships should have been cut down so we could see one or two more Voldemort memories and also the battle of the astronomy tower, and also they shouldn’t have done Harry as awkwardly as they did
Even though it’s my least favorite movie by far, I still think it’s a good movie but the book is my favorite and while I don’t 100% mind it focuses on relationship, it’s executed poorly imo
Ok, prepare yourself for a long comment based off my opinion. I think that this movie is great, but not compared to the book. The book will always be a million times better, and there's no changing that. However, if one of my friends says "Hey, wanna watch a Harry Potter film?" I will always say this movie. The cinematography is great, the music is PERFECT (I'm obsessed with film scores btw) and the characters are the best part. While I despise the Harry and Ginny romance in this film, I don't HATE Ginny's character in the films. I think that in the 2nd and 5th movies, she's a great character. I do wish that Ginny could be more confident and bold though because she still seems to be that shy girl she was before her teenage years. I said before that I'm obsessed with film music, so of course I'm gonna dedicate an entire section of this comment to this movie's music. "When Ginny Kissed Harry" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard, I can literally fall asleep in happiness to this music. It was also the only good thing about the otherwise awful Harry and Ginny kiss scene. "In Noctem" is so beautiful and THEY SHOULD'VE KEPT THAT DELETED SCENE IN BECAUSE IT WAS SO PERFECT, BUT NO, THEY HAD TO HAVE MORE SCENES OF LAVANDER AND WON-WON. Sorry, rant over. "Dumbledores Foreboding" is a hauntingly beautiful piece of music, and it makes that "I am the Half-Blood Prince" scene that little bit more watchable. "Dumbledores Farewell" makes me cry at Dumbledore's death scene so hard, it's so sad. I also love how this music comes back in Snape's memories. "Ron's Victory" makes the quidditch scene so fun to watch, and it's one of the few scenes in the film that shows of Ginny's skill in quidditch. Next, I'm gonna talk about the dialogue. Starting off with the good stuff, the scenes between the golden trio of perfect and natural, you can really see how far the actors have come together. In intense scenes, the dialogue mixed with the music can have a big impact on how powerful that scene is. The comedy is mostly on point. The scene where Harry in on liquid luck is so funny, like, how can you not laugh when Harry says "SiRRrrrrrRrrrrrRRrrrRr" to Slughorn. I also forgot how funny Ron Weasley is in this movie, especially when it comes to Harry and Ginny. Now for the bad stuff. Harry and Ginny's scenes are AWFUL. Like, what the actual hell was that shoelace scene?! Ron and Lavander was funny for a bit, but then it got annoying. Bonnie Wright didn't deserve to get hate because she was given a bad script! Bonnie is a gorgeous lady who is great at acting. Her scenes failed because of the bad script and the fact that she has no chemistry with Daniel Radcliffe, unlike the Ron and Hermione relationship which I think was done perfectly in both the books and the movies. Finally, I'm going to talk about characters. I think Harry was the best by far. His acting has become perfect, and his scenes with his friends (apart from the ones with Ginny) feel so natural. Snape is also really good in this movie. Even though he's better in both the Deathly Hallows movies, he's still really good in this one (RIP ALAN RICKMAN YOU WILL BE MISSED
I can relate to a lot here, but honestly Lavender Brown didn't annoy me much, I think the problem was just that the film should have been longer. I mean, how are you gonna make a 700 page novel into a 130 minute film, they should have added at least 20 minutes. I think some added detail into Voldemort's backstory of how he doesn't understand love would have been great, and then some more added detail to the build up of the line "I'm the Half Blood Prince" I don't really feel like I get the same emotional effect I should get, but what exactly do we learn by this? Yes it's interesting that Snape made the sectumsempra spell while in school, but not much unfortunately. The film isn't perfect, but none of the films are, and the fact that people seem to think Goblet of Fire is somehow even close to being as good as this, is laughable. You talked about the soundtrack, and I agree, it's the best in the series. It feels so personal to all the characters, I love the music that plays multiple times between conversations of Harry and Slughorn, there's this sense of them both relating the memory of Lily in a sweet but distant way, as Harry didn't know Lily. I also particularly love the piece "Dumbledore's Farewell" as opposed to something like "Death of Cedric" it isn't one note, although it's true that Cedric's death is emotional, and a good piece of music, it's not very nuanced, unlike "Dumbledore's Farewell" there's so much feeling in it, it works just wonderfully. I also love the opening track to the film, it starts with a rendition of Hedwig's Theme, until one note pushes it off, and it becomes a foreboding track to "Dumbledore's Farewell" I actually also disagree with you when you say there's nothing good besides the score when Harry and Ginny kisses, cause I absolutely love the camerawork in that scene, the lighting as well is beautiful. Anyway, sorry for my babbling.

I have to talk about how great the Harry and hermione scene was:
In that scene, hermione was with her best friend, Harry, and was crying.

I guess it's not the actress' fault, but I somehow feel she didn't put too much heart into her role either- just learned the lines and delivered them)
When I finally read the books- Ginny impressed me: clever, funny, pretty, talented, very very popular, brave and tough. Harry has every reason to like her.
If the movie kept some Ginny scenes from the book ( ex the kiss after the Quidditch match) the H+G relationship would have unfolded much more naturally
I think her character was done well in order of the Phoenix was done well
This is my favorite movie and book. People always look at me weird when I say that
Same
3 yrs late to this but i genuinely feel for the people who dislike this movie.
Idk i just truly love this movie😭
-EDIT TO INCLUDE ALSO, THERES A DELETED SCENE I DID NOT KNOW EXISTED UNTIL THIS YEAR CRAZY, IK AFTER WATCHING IT SO MANY TIMES ANYWAY
THIS SCENE WHERE THE VIBE SHIFTS and it pans to different characters getting this eerie feeling looking up and the sky before harry and dumbledore came back from getting the horcrux and it ends panning to draco on his bed wide awake waiting for the moment, getting up and ready to commit THE moment of killing dumbledore while IN NOCTEM plays in the back it gives me CHILLLSS.
People hate it only because they didn’t understand it fully
I also loved the scene between Slughorn and Harry, when he retrieves the Horcrux memory.
my FAVORITE scene
It’s really good in the book as well
Alternate title Harry can’t tie his shoe.
YES U R SO RIGHT
Also (just my opinion) but I think another reason the burrow being attacked was in the movie was to show how brave Ginny is. As soon as Harry goes to chase Bellatrix, without a second thought, In her bathrobe, she pulls out her wand and runs after Harry. I think this also shows just how much Ginny loves Harry and how much she’ll do for him. Since the movies didn’t give us enough time to show Ginnys bravery and fearlessness I think this was a good way of doing so.
good point!
When Ginny started tying Harry’s shoe. I was just like uhhhhhh what the heck kind of relationship is this.
I binged watched all the Harry Potter movies and I didn't even notice that half blood prince was one of them
I thought it was just part of deathly hallows
Great analysis! One thing I’d add is Jim Broadbent’s performance as Slughorn. Strikes such a delicate balance of oddness, comedy, and pathos...his telling of the story of Lily’s present (and the composition of the shot, with Hagrid’s large furniture shrinking him) is devastating and one of the best acting showcases in the entire franchise.
Yea, totally agree! There is so much good in this film. All of the performances in this one are spectacular, but even so, Jim’s really stands out.
YES! i completely agree. he is excellent in this role; one of the best actors in the series imo! that scene about lily in hagrid’s hut is one of my absolute favorites in the series! glad you brought it up
Wow, awesome analysis!
It’s really that and worldbuilding that make the series, and we get enough character of Voldemort shown in the movies to make the story work, and show his ambitions.
thank you so much! 😊
I always thought this was the worst movie ever out of the series but this video made me think differently 😳
The goblet of fire is the worst one in my opinion
zift it’s one of my favorites 😳
@@hannahbanana4901 oof
Goblet is
The goblet of Fire
HBP is also one of my favourites though I wished that Ginny and Harry would have been given more time. But I think the movie gives us one of the best sequences which is the Felix Felicis part of the movie. The scene at Hagrids is so heartfelt and genuine
Great essay btw!
I love The Half-Blood Prince because it gives us more depth to Voldemort, but most importantly, Draco. We see Draco break down a few times because deep down, he doesn’t want to be like his father/kill Dumbledore
I must live under a rock because I didn’t know it was hated, I actually like this one
I never ever understood why ppl hate this movie, they have it the worse HP, they even put it lower the Fantastic Beasts movies ( LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO NOOOOO COMMENT) NOT EVEN CLOSE
They’re sooo many AMAZING SCENES in this movie that I LOVE
1 - THE CINEMATOGRAPHY IS GOLDEN, this & Prisoner Azkaban have the best cinematography, they just feel soo different from the rest
2 - IT HAS THE BEST HP OPENING
3 - The soundtrack ( again it feels so diff from the rest)
4 - Dumbledore’s speech about Voldemort
5 - Voldemort’s past
6 - Harry & Slughorns scenes
7 - THE BURROW idk why is everyone is bitching that scene is SOOO INTENSE
8 - Harry & Malfoy going at it
9 - Malfoy wasn’t a useless bitch
10 - The whole ending, Harry & Dumbledore going too the Cliff of Moher, Harry making Dumbledore drink that shit & Dumbledore is like EWWWW, Snape killing Dumbledore, Snape telling Harry he’s the Half Blood Prince & every one at Hogwarts pointing there wands at Voldemort
Ok the relationship between Ron & Hermione was starting too get annoying but it wasn’t like that in Goblet of Fire too??? Ginny wasn’t wooden since day 1???
I LOVE ALL THE HP MOVIES THERE’S NOT A SINGLE BAD 1 but if you ask me which is my favorite one’s it’s a toss up between Prisoner of Azkaban
In "half-blood prince" Movie is my favourite draco scene and That's the biggest Reason why It's my favourite movie all of Harry Potter movies
youre spot on in the first 30 seconds. I havent read the books and my favourite films are 5 & 6. Im not a film nerd but I understand movie language and what makes a film good, and yea i was super surprised when I found out this movie was ranked as one of the worst HP movies
it has always been my favourite movie cuz it's funny
This is my absolute favorite HP film, so this video makes me feel pretty damn vindicated. And your analysis of the cinematography and color palate of the film just made me love it 10x more which I didn’t even think was possible.
Half-blood prince is my favourite film hehe
Yes!! that's why this is my favorite movie. in my opinion, it is the most comforting and relaxed movie, but has a lot of important scenes that happen to set you off for the next movies; which are increasingly more intense.
Symmetry in particular is so important and i love how they play with it in parallel to (especially) Draco's internal struggle with what he has been called upon. the black and white birds?? come on clear metaphorical devices!!!!!!! also i LOVE how how you mentioned that this is the most *calm* of all of the films. that's another reason i love it... even the score by Nicholas Hooper is very calming and how they managed to keep a sense of tranquility while also introducing the concept of Horcruxes was impressive in and of itself. this is the best Harry Potter film idc!!! idc!!!!!!
I just re watched them all and I will say they are all great films. Truly a fantastic franchise.
i agree with everything
Beautiful vid. You made me realize why HP71-2 was so impactful when I was watching the fall of Hogwarts. Because HP6 took time to have me get even more attached to the students and the school.
Kids love Sorcerers Stone
Men's love Prisoner Of Azkaban
Legends love Half Blood Prince
a wise saying

It's always gonna be my favourite movie of Harry Potter
This has always been my favorite Harry Potter movie!!
I love how when i'm watching this on the "up next" section i have a video called "What went wrong with the hald-blood prince film.
hahahah
Lol same
Its simultaneously the worst and the best Harry Potter movie.
Me, having the Half Blood Prince as a favorite movies of all: 👁👄👁
Love is a big theme in Harry Potter, and this movie really establishes that along with more emotional context. It's the perfect precursor to the next films
I like the movie, but the scene where the death eathers destroy the Weasley's home was not necesary. That time could have been used for other things, for example they could have included more of Voldemort's past.
My favorite book AND favorite movie.
i think you did a good job with highlighting the good parts of the movie!! good job and i can't wait for more harry potter meme videos!❤️
thank you! :)
It's really good as a movie but not so good as an adaptation. I enjoy watching it but it's still my least favourite movie because I find it a little disappointing.
Dont forget the beatifull music!
Why am I agreeing wit her ???
Aaaaaaahhhhhh-
very beautifully put into words!! amazing video, loved it!
thank you! 😊
I really like how you explained how the visuals and the aesthetic experience of this movie add to the narrative. Especially with book to movie adaptations people tend to forget how much can be said without words and, personally speaking, I just love beautiful movies hahahaha
totally agree!
one of my favorites
I always thought The Half-Blood Prince was by far the best. The closest to catching J.K. Rowling's magic. But then again, I absolutely loathe movies in general. So naturally, one that I favor will not likely draw the favor of your usual movie audience.
Best Harry Potter movie in my opinion
I never liked this film, but you made me like it more! Great video!
thank you!
The comedy in this film worked so well for me. Made me laugh at a lot of moments because it was light humour in a dark world
I don’t like it bc they didn’t add Harry and Ginny’s first kiss because that’s when their relationship started and in the movies Harry and Ginny had the wrong first kiss that wasn’t even in the books!
This is my second favorite Potter film. I think it’s severely underrated, and this video does an excellent job explaining why it works. Also came across some of your music and it’s really good stuff! Keep up the good work!
Its my favourite now
this movie's always been my fav ♡
The best movie IMO.
Some simple changes could have made this movie great. Including a lighter color theme, an extra scene or two (literally, that's all we need) of voldemorts backstory, hopefully the gaunt family origins. And one or two less lavender/Ron scenes. So close to greatness
No it's pretty perfect as it is
I just like all the movies and I don’t care if they are hated
The Half-Blood Prince is my favorite movie/book!!!
so I thought the title said 'Why "The Half-Blood Prince" Movie Is Better Than You'
hmm-
One comedic scene which I think could have still been kept if they were making a more faithful adaptation is the line ‘Why is it when something happens it’s always you three?’
Which ship is more popular??drarry, harmony, hinny, huna or charry
I will say right up front that I didn't like the Half Blood Prince movie, but I always prefer to seek to understand before I'm understood and this video opened my eyes more to those who enjoy the film. Videos like these help me enjoy movies I didn't enjoy as much before. Keep up the good work :)
thank you so much! that means a lot! :)
Definitely not the worst, probably in my top five. My lest fav would be the order of the Phoenix
It is one of the worst but the cinematography is top notch.
half_blood prince is my favorite BOOK
I love that movie so much. Best of saga also as a Film is still good without consider part of a saga. Even musics in that movie is something else.
My favorit part of Harry Patter is Harry Potter and Half blood prince
This is my favourite franchise of all time and star wars is second
I think you argued your point well: that being said I think that the relationships should have been cut down so we could see one or two more Voldemort memories and also the battle of the astronomy tower, and also they shouldn’t have done Harry as awkwardly as they did
Even though it’s my least favorite movie by far, I still think it’s a good movie but the book is my favorite and while I don’t 100% mind it focuses on relationship, it’s executed poorly imo
No it's execution is perfect
I prefer the book 📖 because it’s more about Draco and SNAPE who are favorites in this series 💜 oppose to the good guys
Harry Potter and the half blood Prince movie was my favourite before I watched this video
This one is my favourite and I’m sorry if that makes me an idiot I don’t care I really like this film
I also love the opening track to the film, it starts with a rendition of Hedwig's Theme, until one note pushes it off, and it becomes a foreboding track to "Dumbledore's Farewell"
I actually also disagree with you when you say there's nothing good besides the score when Harry and Ginny kisses, cause I absolutely love the camerawork in that scene, the lighting as well is beautiful. Anyway, sorry for my babbling.
@@crappymcdick wow thanks for actually reading it all
@@f_e_r_n1255 Well, hehe sure. It's was a joy.
