I can confirm the issues with using paraffin and the pump related problems, pump works but goes silent after a random amount of time and stops feeding fuel. I ended up having to mix some diesel in order for reliably operation. The particular brand of paraffin I use cost roughly twice as much as red diesel but advertised on the container as "soot free, odor free, aromat free, purified paraffin" and has no smell when spilled - which is the main reason why I use it, even if you get in on your hands it does not feel "oily". Mixing with 2-stroke oil is a good tip, I'm going to try that. Thanks.

Hello, I bought the diesel heater to get rid of my old engine oil and at the same time to save gas on my heater in my house. Yes this works for me with a 50/50 mix but only a few days. After that start difficulties start and after some more time flame outs occur. The reason is that so many deposits have formed in the vortex chamber on the bottom that the combustion stops. Cleaning is a bit difficult (scribing needle and welding rod) and the inner paper seal broke immediately as i pull out the combustion chamber. I'm now trying to get at least a longer runtime with a lower mixing ratio.

I am in canada, i tried to run a 50/50 mix of diesel and 5w30 new engine oil (synthetic blend 60%) and I do believe it was due to the cold temps we are getting right now but my unit would not fire up after the oil was introduced.
I am using it in an old school bus I am converting and living in. With pure diesel I get no smell in the bus, but when I had oil mixed it smelled very strong of oil inside and I have since replaced the unit so I can dissemble my old unit and clean it. I cleaned it out today and found it was very sooty with some coking that had built up. I had only got one day out of the oil mix before it began to fail lighting, we are currently getting -15 to -20c so I believe it was too cold to pump the oil efficiently. @@londonjacks8371 any diesel engine will run on bio IE refined veg oil, you need to refine it and remove the free fatty acids and glycerol for it to be a direct replacement fuel or it will gum up the internals , especially on modern diesel engins, older and simple diesel engines and heaters will run unrefined cooking oil if it is thinned with say petrol but again if isn't refined clogging will happen eventually.
I've run many older diesel engines on new cooking oil but they all eventually gummed up (usually the fuel pump) it's a balancing act, refine and use or don't refine and repair when it clogs up and it will clog up.

It will work if you thin the cooking oil first with a bit of diesel. It's a good idea to have a second fuel tank with the cooking oil in and then start up on diesel, switch over when the engine is hot, then switch back again 10 mins before shutdown. Try to make the cooking oil as thin as possible (very low viscosity) diesel heater pump cannot cope with thick liquid, especially with the cheap green fuel line. Thinning can also be done by pre-warming the cooking oil. Always start and stop the heater whilst it is running on diesel.
