The man who was told to speak to the judge was short-changed. He should have been able to speak to the devil that took his sons' mum. He took a child's mother, who does that? I pray this young man doesn't become a static in life later. If he does, it's the defendants fault for ruining this family. 35 years is an insult to everyone, ESPECIALLY this family and the children she had and any she may have had later.
35 years is what this community Marched And Protested for over the last 4 years! Bail Reform and Defunding The Police ... Protecting and Defending criminals against prosecution was this community's cry! They said "the system is racist".. Remember? I do.. And many of us knew this day would come. Well, I live in Michigan, and I know about the prison system. This crime made NO sense at all. So sad that another black person lost their life. This POS needs to rot in prison. He probably will start in a level IV prison. They are locked down for 23 hours a day. That is still going to be too good for him. Peace.

I can't understand WHY the judge told the young man "speak to me, the court" I was just watching the impact statements from the family whose son was beaten at the basketball court in Akron Ohio. One of the family members specifically asked the judge if she could speak DIRECTLY to the defendants and the judge allowed her, WHY was this young man NOT allowed to speak directly to this clown????????????
It all falls on the judge, some judges will get a case & if there were no errors during the case they will allow it…if there were errors they won’t allow it due to possible appeals.
Some think when he mentioned the 'wig' comment; some judges used-to wear a sheer-white wig w/curls centuries ago; that or the sensitivities surrounding the lgbtq + community.
The way he just says “it’s a shame it happened…” like it was just some unavoidable outcome bound to happen and he couldn’t prevent it infuriates me. No, his actions, his lack of self control, his low self esteem, his immature mentality and aggressive behavior are the ONLY reason this happened. It is no ones fault but his and he hasn’t taken any genuine accountability or a genuine apology. F him.

From the time this story went live when she was missing. I didn't stop praying even after they found her deceased. My heart was ripped in half and cried for her, her family and her baby boy. His family showing up at court was only to show support but with what he did I wouldn't showed up for his butt. He dressed up as a woman. He thought this out carefully and knew she wouldn't have gone willing if she knew it was him. He killed her because he didn't want to see her happy with anyone else. All the letters and words he typed out is NOTHING compared to that beautiful life he stole from her. He said TOXIC he was the one because she tried to get away from him. She didn't want him and he was a sorry loser and I don't believe nothing he says or care. I feel her families pain. I think of this young lady a lot and what she went through. These men get these GOOD women and don't know how to receive the LOVE we have from them. I praise God for allowing me to leave a relationship like this over 20 something years ago because this could have been my story. I'm sorry Patrice that you lived a horror story with a monster that couldn't let go. God keep her family and child up on their worst days because there will be many. I'll never forget this young lady

The family knows the killer so they attempted to destroy the ego that controlled him. They disgusted her strength and beauty and that she never feared him. So, he had no control over her. They also attacked his manhood which stroked his Ego. He will always be a cowardly killer that destroyed her, and his entire life to include families.
I wonder how former men in these situations feel? A woman usually has every intention on being with the father of her child. So often, the black family separates and women are left subject to these kind of men. It’s unfortunate that the father of her son and her weren’t able to make their family work. This could have been avoided had he upheld his original duty of her protector when he decided to make her a mother. The family unit is not taken seriously enough in the black community.

Why are they not giving the impact statements prior to his sentencing?? I thought the judge weighs the families concerns over the decision in his case. For the man to sit there and then be protected by the Judge during the fathers impact statement. I don’t believe they should have given him less than the 60 year’s in prison.
And that's a shame because that's one of the most heartfelt words I ever heard coming from a courtroom that was written by a murderer, maybe he'll be granted some redemption this is so sad
