- It is our hottest time of year.
A time for some things to slow down and rest, while others speed up and take advantage of the heat.
The pears had just finished. The avocados are dropping along with the muscadines and passion fruit. There was a treat of some Surinam Cherries as well. Very soon the Jujubes will be ripe along with the few pomegranates that have made it this far.
It is a long hot time, so it is good to remember that there are seasons, and that it will change.
Stay cool and stay hydrated.

Great video!
I love that the go pro acquired sentience as a result of being in Houston in August.
Nice, falsa
Any recs for kiwi varieties to grow in Houston?
Nah, I don't know much about them and just have these small ones.
I hear the name "Issai" often as a male pollinator. Also "Anna". But both of those are A. arguta(which is different than the A. chinensis seedlings I have.
A. deliciosa is the green flesh kind and apparently it might be worth giving them a try here in H-town.
A thing for all of them is that they are big vines that benefit from cross pollination so since we are marginal because of our heat it might be better to grow them naturally and into/under a canopy(ie. high filtered light)
Why hardy kiwi instead of tropical kiwi?
I got the seedlings for free.
They are Golden Kiwi(Actinida chinenses) so not the really hardy ones.
I think the green flesh ones freeze out in our hard winters.
I'm not expecting much because I don't think any of the Kiwi enjoy our heat/humidity enough to fruit well.
It was just a couple plants that needed to get out of their pots.
Inwood Eden cool, I’m excited to see how they do! I was shocked to find a guy in Dallas growing Vincent (tropical green kiwi) who never covers it in the winter and it is several years old. We are going to try some up here in Conroe and see what happens!
