Between Jesse Johnson and Eddie Hazel, I don't know who is the most underrated guitar player of all time ? Jesse Johnson is a blues player first and foremost before a R&B rhythm guitar player. #JesseTheGreatJohnson
So the debate (all this is) continues...I've seen Prince 13 times dating back to 1981. I've seen Jesse 3 times..2wice with the Time and 1nc with the Review. The reason I say Prince edges Jesse out and I'm a huugge Jesse fan is Prince flows between different styles in his playing. Both P&J have laid down and played some incredible shit but I have tip it to Prince. Jesse will tear shit up but he'll stay in a zone whereas Prince will tear shit up on multi levels more fluidly!!
Kelven Dyson Prince was ok guitarist, but did he scare anyone,no, and he never had a good tone, and don’t make me post that awful blues solo he did on red house! lol only none guitarist will get it, so I want even argue the point,
@@Kasper911band people who think prince is a great guitarist most likely never picked up a guitar themselves. Jesse is a God, prince was good. Jesse in 85 was better light years than Prince at death
It's all about the technique. Jesse had Prince's respect and a respectful fear from the beginning. That's why our Prince put our Jesse in the band.... But when our Jesse started to wail on his get fiddle..... Even Our Prince once and only once admitted way way back in the early days .. said that our Jesse was the only man he feared on the guitar. .. they both had a great respect and love for each other's ability. Prince is the dude with a smokin' hot deep funky Jesse right on his heels...
He was the original guitarist for The Time and had HUGE hits, including Jungle Love, which the band performed in the movie Purple Rain. He has always been an underappreciated musician and song writer. Though he is often labeled as one of the Minneapolis musicians that all rose to fame with Prince, Jesse and Morris Day are actually from Chicago.
Ok, don’t know why I am up watching this at 4:15 am. I have been a huge Jessie fan sense I was a teen in the early 80’s, I use to play guitar in church and around the house but went thru some personal issues where I didn’t play much for 20 years, I picked it up again a year or two ago. But after seeing this clip which made me cry like a little B--h. Wow just freaking wow! One of the most under rated guitar players of all time. When ever I read those …the top 20 or so guitar players and Jessie’s name is never even mentioned it pisses me off. One quick true story for you guys.. a friend of mine who worked for Prince, the Time and vanity 6 said that When Vanity 6 was performing the Time was their band behind the curtains but Prince would also be playing with them on occasions and he mentioned that Jessie and Prince would often battle each other’s guitar chops he would always say Jessie gave prince a run for his money.
Looooool you were a teen in the early 80s? 😂 You keep exposing yourself even more and more. Amazing, being a teen in the early 80s means you missed out on Marvin Gaye's What's Going on (which you were only what? 6 years old) and relying on your older relatives for their record or their radio to listen to the songs doesn't give the same experience. I'll be waiting for one of many fake memories you have from the age of 3 since you seem to be obsessed with that
Dude, your life story sounds almost like mine - except, I noticed I can't even get close to back where I was when I played 20 years ago. Now let me turn this youtube off cuz its 2:00am in the morning and why I am I still up watching this.
No disrespect to Prince at all. I live in the city of MPLS and give him all the credit due. But Jesse can play the blues straight from the gutter. This video shows it. Prince can't do this. Plus, Prince's style is repetitious. No matter what anyone else says, Jesse is a better soloist than Prince.
+David Wynn I have always agreed with that assessment. Jesse's blues is loose and somehow tight simultaneously. I wish I could get my blues like Jesse's.
One of the most underrated guitarists in modern history.

This guy is better than a bunch of guys who people claim to be the best. Thats some incredible guitar playing!

Kasper Rouser I’m calling you out. Post a video of Prince playing bad blues guitar.

Lot of respect for Prince but...there are a lot of guys way better then he was. Overall talent, no, but just guitar playing...yes.
Yessaah!

He plays the blues better than prince.

Bad ass Jess!!!!
Serious. You got more?
Jesse is a pure musical artist I still rock his "Crazy for you" video with Sly Stone every now and then.
Can't believe the video cuts as he starts singing!
What would it take to see this cat and Gary Clarke play together
He'd run Gary C off the stage, complete destruction!
Yes he would!!
Respect for GC but, Jesse and Eric Gales would be blue cookin.
Pmelon Speaking of that, Eric would run Jesse off the stage. Different league, altogether...
