Sculpting Shadows with the Profoto Beauty Dish

- One of my favorite tools for creating portraits is the Profoto beauty dish, or Softlight Reflector White 65°. When I use the beauty dish, I'm able to sculpt the light on my model's face. It's a tool that allows me to embrace shadows, instead of trying to eliminate them.
1) No diffusers on the beauty dish.
2) It was white. The difference is in the specular highlights. For more on that check out my Understanding Light & Light Modifiers workshop at snapfactory
The portraits were gorgeous Mark great job. I`ve been on the fence for a while about using a beauty dish as I typically have been using an octo with this paramount setup but you`re starting persuade me a little. Your videos are excellent and I`m a very loyal fan. Now to check if Bowens makes a beauty dish or if I can get that profoto to fit my strobes with an adapter maybe?

1) Did you put any diffuses / grids on the Beauty Dish?
2) Inside the beauty dish the reflector is in white colour or silver? does it really difference a lot between this two colors by comparing softness?
Hi Mark, it would be great if you could make a comparison video between a beauty dish and a small umbrella. Using them just as you did this time, so that we could have a perception of the main diferences between them...
I'm looking for a scheme of lighting similar to one you used before, 2 side lights equal in power and modifier as a key light and a fill from front and above just as you used this time, but I still don't know if an umbrella will fit this scheme... tell me what you think...

Mark, did you stand on the apple box to shoot some scenes? Looks as if you did. You like that angle, higher up to shoot?
Mark do what do u suggest i do w a pair of ab1600s? i have one with a diffusion sock one w a relector....i want to achieve ur look. how would i adjust power to like 1/16th?

I don't understand this metering thing completely. If you are shooting with a iTTL trigger on the Profoto flash with the beauty dish why do you have to meter it then again? Are these very expensive pocket wizzards only for triggering and not to trigger it with iTTL?
What's the ratio between the key and the background light?

I plan on picking up a profoto B1 head for outdoor portraits primarily and maybe some indoor wedding stuff.What would be your recommendation for the light modifier.I don't have the luxury of an assistant.Would u suggest I use this dish as a modifier or pick up a 3 ' octabox from profoto considering that it is primarily outdoor portraiture

Question I bought a 16 inch beauty dish and I’m shooting on gray background paper
And I am getting bad shadow on the background so I need a second light

I am guessing that you are too close to the background. Put at least 8 feet between your model and the background if possible. The other issue could be that the beauty dish is too low. Take a look at the links I sent and see if that helps.
