One of the best flash tutorials I have seen! Thank you for the excellent explanations and clarification on how the exposure settings work with the flash.
This is by far the most useful video you have done so far Mark!!!! Great job. I have just bought myself a westcott umbrella, stand, bracket and radio triggers. I had mostly worked out the settings in M mode on my 60d but it was just fantastic to hear a clear explanation on how to set it up.... Feeling more confident to do my first job taking photo's of children in a play school. Wish me luck!!
@tieman172 We used the SU800 to demonstrate the gear needed for the majority of photographers (Canon, Sony, Nikon, etc) who don't have a specific camera. We're trying to teach principles not specific gear.
Apparently I'm the only old guy on here. Sliding in the 'Les' reference at 1:18 was genius. However, I do live near Cincy and my father-in-law worked at WQRP in Dayton a long time ago. Thanks for the videos. Keep them coming.
What an awesome episode!!!! So full of creativity and very real! I've worked in 12X12 room with another photog and man what a challenge it was but, we both learned so much so I can attest to how "real world" this is….AND by no means I am discounting any other episode Mark has done. I'm simply expressing my experience in this situation. Thank you Mark!
Mr. Mark, i watched almost all of your videos, they are awesome and youre the best UA-cam presentator ever seen. I hope you will consider my request and do more of enterior and real estate shows, since i am struggling with real estate photography and panorama stiching. As you guess, exposure is the biggest problem i struggle with to get even exposure for photo stiching. Love your show, keep on and good luck!!! Love from Bosnia!
@snapfactory I appreciate your response. As the others have said this really is one of the best videos you have produced! Thanks again for all that you do!
wow…. one of the best tutorials I've seen on the many ways to shot on a budget. Thanx, I got a shoot coming up and this was really informative. Like to show you the shots when they are complete.
I often try to crunch in studio strobes in a similar space like in this video, and believe me, I break my legs over them. Maybe I should go back to my speedlights that collect dust these days, your pictures turned out great! Thanks for another informative video.
Just something that ran across my mind while watching this: can you imagine how much longer it must have taken people to learn things such as lighting back in the days of using only film? No "look at the LCD to see how your shot turned out instantly" stuff. It must have been a painstakingly long process learning the technical aspects of shooting.
Man; you make this look so easy! my garage = sutdio soon! to give an idea of costs: my setup: SPeedlight EX 580 II by Canon + 2 budget ones China made: Yongnuo Digital (ETTL II,IR sensor& Master/Slave too) all OK+. wireless set: 1 sender,3 receivers by Cactus( no ETTL here :( ) 3 stands and 3 umbrellas(as in this vid), shootthrough& silver/white bounce (Small modifiers I've built myself). all for +/- 300 €; excluding the Speedlight, off course. great vid as usual!!
The Nikons can remotely trigger the Speedlights without adding any additional equipment using the D90 and up. It's a built in feature. You only need wireless transmitters in direct sunlight or when you can get line of sight to the Speedlight.
Very nice Mark - there is a huge group of folks that will enjoy this - a budget studio - the way of photo studios is going down hill as the cameras get better for the main stream - so more and more folks will be doing just what you demonstrated - do bad for the trade -
D-7000 has a command flash inside the menu of camera customs settings for the sb-600,sb-800 and sb-900, and sb-910 and sb-700 speed light. You most likely won't need the Nikon su-800 . You can save save some money.
Hi Mark, love your tutorials, even though I am a knowledgeable photographer, with many years experience I learn something new almost daily, especially in my transition from manual film photography to the very automated digital stuff. Although a fairly old video, I don't understand why you used a SU-800, as the D7000 has Commander mode in the Bracketing/Flash menu?
on the nikon you have the cls system (creative lighting system) in the camera, so you don't need the su800. its free no need for remote comander. it works great and you can control each speed light independently increasing or decreasing the power.
The best channel ever seen. Mark thank you.
Mark thank once again for helping the new people.
that's exactly what i needed. looks like we are hand in hand. you with the lessons and I with the learning speed.
Mark thanks for all your time you share with us. As soon as I get some cash out of my photography work i will buy your products. Thanks again.

love my d7000. Inbuilt commander mode works with 40 quid neewer flashes.
amazing thank you so much
I can recomend using a pringles can instead of the snoot thingy. You could also build a grid by using straws in the can
