    The only thing wrong with "reviews" is that they belong to you, not everyone. Your experience is on show both riding style and ability to truly adapt. Personally having ridden for 55 years, owned bikes from the 60s till now, 50 of them, and now having 2 FZ1s and a Bonneville I can say the FZ 09 the the most sorted bike I have ever known. All bikes are a compromise, this bike is as perfect as one can get. Put all the pluses, minuses, in betweens and you've got yourself a world class machine here. One problem "reviewers" always have is the comparison cloud that does not allow any bikes uniqueness be felt to the full.

    Someone pointed out that I made a mistake in regards to the Penske Rear Shock. The base version of the shock is $650, the top tier version is around $1275. Sorry about that mistake. I recommend taking a look at www.stoltecmoto.com/product-category/yamaha/fz-09/ this company has put a great amount of effort into the FZ-09 it would be nice to support them in purchasing from them.

    Brilliant review, just watched parts 1 and 2 back to back, after first finding the bike at a dealers yesterday. Such detailed and enthusiastic bike knowledge is rare in reviews and you literally covered all the questions, I was asking myself about the machine. My last two bikes were a Honda CB1300 and Honda CB1000r. I switched to the latter after finding the 1300 just too cumbersome and heavy. This MT09 (it's name here in the UK) is JUST the bike I'm looking for and your reviews have sold me on it. Thanks again Dude!!

    Welcome to the club! I have the camchain tensioner noise too. Took it to the dealer to get it serviced, they fixed it, I rode for a week or two and the noise came back. I've ridden almost 300 miles since and it's not disappearing so I'll be taking it back to get fixed again.
    The dealer told me that apparently it's normal for Yamaha bikes to have this issue as they are afraid to overtighten bolts on new models and bikes, which I find a bit funny. Annoying when it's there all the time but at least it's still ridable.

    • @ridendrive
      @ridendrive  11 років тому

      Yea ive heard mixed things in regards to it, Id have to imagine with the level of complaints yamaha would have to release a TSB for the issue and offer a fix for those that have it.

    Hey man thanks for doing these video's. You actually go into very great detail and it's nice to see a review after many miles have been put on the bike. I am seriously considering getting this bike but color schemes and my belief Yamaha will deliver an R spec version in about 6 months is causing me to wait a bit. The dealer here won't let me test ride so I go off reviews and video's, but I trust the engine is insane.

    • @ridendrive
      @ridendrive  11 років тому

      Not a problem. If Yamaha is coming out with an R spec that will be fantastic, in regards to the bike I can assure you will love it.

    On a quick note on the rear shock: With little modification you can install a OEM ZX6R or ZX10R shock that will provide better adjustments over the stock one without breaking the bank.

    You have some good points. I just got my Blazing Orange beast! I weighed the good and the not so good, and the good definitely weighs more. Besides, the CCT can be replaced under the warranty, if needed.
    I think I am going to send in the ECU to Soltec. In my opinion, the throttle is too sensitive in gears 1-3. Gears 4-6 are completely awesome in all modes. The interesting thing is, if I'm not mistaken, only gears 1-3 have been reworked in the Soltec flash. Everyone that has had it done, say it makes it much more enjoyable to ride (much smoother), without a loss of power.
    Good job on your new exhaust. It looks and sounds awesome.

    Hello i have been watching your videos on the FZ-09 and i have a question for you. I am looking into this or the Triumph street triple R. I am a first time rider and i am a bit on the heavy side (250lbs+) I have also completed my 3 day riders course. The bike will be more of a weekend warrior or after work rider. I live in south Texas so there are not many twist and turns but i still would like something that could handle the hill country we have here. I also do not see myself going crazy with mods so i would like something ready to go from the dealership or only needing minor adjustments. Which do you think is right for me?

    • @ridendrive
      @ridendrive  10 років тому

      I say either way, you may find issue with the stock suspension with your build on the FZ09, if your ok with putting a different3 rear shock, id go FZ09 if not the Street Triple R, really both excellent bikes. Out of the box as I mentioned the street triple is better on the suspension end. Its the motor on the yamaha that makes it hard for me, I just love it.

    so true on the 2014 FZ09 I HAVE! good review! changed my headlight, throttle, full exhaust system titanium w/power commander and air flow. adjusted the front and rear (I'm a lightweight ). The bike is a beast for the price. great project bike to make into your own.

    BTW, I was lucky enough to get ahold of the Puig Sport Windscreen, model #6859F, for this bike. It deflects a lot of the wind that normally hits your body and helmet, while maintaining the naked look. I would highly recommend it.

    Gezz Ive got 2000k on my 09 now but its hard to get used to the snatchy throttle coming out of tight corners. If they used a little of the B mode map at the start of the A and STD mode you could get on the gas way sooner. As for the suspension, well Im still trying to sort that. Ive stopped trying to compare it with other bikes because it is what it is. At the end of the day it still gives me a stepped up heart rate when you fang the throttle hard and it gets a lot of looks and ppl asking what is it.

    Great review, thank you very much for those. If you're looking for improvements over the video itself - your camera does squeaky autofocus noise that I find distracting (listening on better than average headphones). Other than that - great!

    Great follow up review. So far ive also had cam chain noise intermitantly but not took back to the dealer yet.I find the seat much too hard , after about 50 miles I have a numb backside.Also going from 4 to 5th and 6th gear seems to take a very high lift of the foot to get it into gear.Overall still a cracking bike.

  • @jeffrt3893
    @jeffrt3893 10 років тому

    Ok, I have to update since my ride yesterday. I just rode 160 miles up and down a local mountain. OMG, the throttle has smoothed out, and mode A is "Awesome". I now feel comfortable going slow over gravel in mode A. Seriously, I think the fueling is just fine. When the bike is new, the throttle is quite sensitive. I think the ECU must have a learning mode, because it has smoothed out significantly. I now have approximately 260 miles on my bike.
    I, in fact, like the engine braking as it comes from the factory. That is another thing... the ECU flash removes that. Not sure if I would like having to use the breaks more often.
    This bike is serious fun. Much more fun than my '07 GSXR 600 was. If you are considering buying it, do it!!!

    • @ridendrive
      @ridendrive  10 років тому

      I have the ECU tune and the reduced engine braking is great, it prevents the unsettling of the chassis, but still leaves more then enough engine breaking. I find it to be perfect. If the fueling stock doesn't bother you, or you find it suits you best then keep it as is. Glad your enjoying it, its an awesome bike.

    Great videos! I am planning to buy a FZ-09 this spring and take it to the Tail off the Dragon on the NC/TN boarder. What did you run with your FZ-09 and Triumph Triple at the drag strip? Did you post your canyon video? After watching your videos I am really wanting the FZ-09 for the southeast.

  • @opmike343

    Very honest update on the bike. Browsing around some of the FZ forums, and many of the owners on there have an obvious emotional investment in their bikes and they take criticism (even valid) very personally. I have no time for that foolishness, especially since I'm in the market for one.

  • @robertkennedy9618
    @robertkennedy9618 10 років тому

    Hi there- Im in Australia and the 2015 MT09 as it is called over here (your FZ09) does come in an ABS version and is already released. I just purchased mine this week and the so called snatchy throttle is not even an issue due to the fact that our ADR rules dont require your harsher american design rules. The actual sensor coming off the exhaust on our models is actually blanked off also. This may have a lot to do with fuelling and my bike is smooth as silk on the throttle although in A mode YES it is aggressive but predictable and very rideable, but holy crap they ceertainly can grizzle when asked of it. Love it to pieces.

      The ECU on the 2015 FZ/MT 09 has a different flash than the 2014 models. The throttle snatch is what the flash fixed and is available for 2014 models as well. But I wont be getting mine flashed

      Adam Sikes Thanks for the reply Adam. I had a discussion with Yamaha dealer and he told me exactly what you said. I just fitted a 2 brothers S1R exhaust system and it's kinda loud but a nice tone. Our cops have more of the attitude that a loud bike is a safe bike. Our regs also aren't all that stringent regarding installing these systems for the road even if you are eliminating the catalytic converter. Lucky us.

    Hello..what about driving daily on an interstate At 70-75 mph? Would a gsxr 750 be better to commute or short trips since it has a fairing and windshield and more forward seating position ? My experience and what I have read others say is that one tends to get blown backward off the seat on upright naked bikes at those speeds and above?

    Hi, Loved your reviews of this bike super informative. a Question for you:
    Would you recomend this to a rider coming from a cruiser (few years experience but havent ridden in 2 years). Will be using it as a commuter mainly (30min ride to and from work) with a little bit of weekend warrior riding and even camping trips.
    cheers

    • @ZeGerman1984
      @ZeGerman1984 10 років тому

      Fluxx43 Ended up Buying a MT-09 (FZ-09), Awesome bike, "A" mode for someone coming from a cruiser background is quite intimidating, especially since all it does is make you do wheelies. but its a great ride like having 3 seperate bikes in one. Usually just stay on STD mode for the commute (if theres not too much traffic), but if it slows up and filtering is needed B mode is a lot better for it. Cheers for doing these reviews, i wouldent have even tried it if i hadent watched these (was going to get a honda nc750).

    Good reviews. Do you have any experience on the Aprilia Shiver? I'm really leaning toward the Shiver because Aprilia craftsmanship is amazing on their bikes, but I'm also a really big fan of Yamaha engines. So I'm really torn. I priced the Shiver at 8k and the FZ09 at $7,600 so the price point is pretty much the same

    Hey bro, VERY good reviews on your channel. You get int so much detail, that for a guy like me that doesn't have as much experience as you in riding, it's sometimes hard for me to follow 100%, but I like that because you make me aware of what I don't know and it forces me to learn more, so thank you!! I rode a Kawasaki Nina 250 for a while, and then bought the 2013 Kawasaki Nina ZX6-R 636 in December. Being that I live in NYC, I haven't been able to ride it much due to the cold weather we have been having. I'm just wondering if you've ever ridden my bike, plan on riding it, and plan on doing a review on it. Your input and opinion would hold a lot of weight, due to the fact that you know what you're talking about and not some 19 year old punk that's just embarrassing himself by hopping on a sports bike he knows nothing about, or how to even ride. I see that a lot, especially with kids buying liter bikes. I know it's a bit late since I bought the bike already, but for other riders looking into buying it i'm sure your input on a review would be greatly appreciated!

    So, I heard you comment that is good to drain the factory engine oil because is "cheap" and instead put a better oil? What is the oil that you said in the video?
    Also want say that I really enjoy your reviews on this awesome bike, I just purchase a '15 model and is a beast, I actually don't notice the problems with the suspension, maybe is because is a 2015 model and they adjust it better from factory I guess, anyways, I like seeing the California roads, canyons and coast lines, that is a great way to not have a chicken lines in the tires, as for me I don't have those kind of roads here so is pretty much straight roads and highways, so is gonna be hard to lean my bike at some point haha; Back to the oil thing, let me know if you remember the best oil to the bike.
    Keep enjoying those lovely Calif canyons and thank you!

    • @ridendrive

      Helmuth Alpizar My suggestion in a summary is to run the bike for the first warm up the bike completely. Then to run the bike through the gears hard, putting load on the motor and then allowing the engine to slow its self down without the use of the breaks, and do that. Do not sit on the highways as the wind resistance is to high and and you wont get enough pressure on the rings. After about 550-600 miles change the factory fill oil and swap to something like Motul 300v 10-40.
      I suggest you reference this site: www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

      I would not. Totally different animals. Only similarity is they are both "naked bikes"

    I´m thinking to buy one of those, but there´s many people talking about the small issues! I guess a lot of small issues can become a big issue and now i´m not sure! i still believe, for the price it´s a great bike to get, but i don´t want to go everyday running to the dealer! I don´t have much money to spend, so i´d like a bike which dont need much improvements, for the other hand i don´t like triple street at all...ugly as hell!!!! What is your advise?

    Sorry, but I'd have to disagree with opening the brake reservoir overnight. The brake fluid will suck in any moisture from the air, and you don't want that.

    This comment is pretty late so if they did make it where on the deceleration where they injectors pump fuel then your burning more gas and getting less mpg correct??

    You get what you pay for. Personally, I would be willing to pay an extra 1000 bucks for better suspension, better throttle response, and no CCT problem. Just my opinion. Why buy a new bike and have to replace a bunch of stuff on it, for it to work properly? Hopefully, Yamaha will make some positive changes to the 2015 model.

      @ridendrive  10 років тому

      I dont really agree in the entirety of the comment. The CCT problem first is a quick 10 minute fix that yamaha covers. Like a lot of bikes, especially the british, 1 or 2 issues on first year models is nothing to be surprised nor concerned about. Secondly the throttle response is an issue based more on emissions, its becoming common on a lot of new bikes and for 1-200 dollars I dont see it being a deal breaker. Lastly the suspension is for sure not the best, but honestly. for the 1-2k you will spend, you will get components far better then a bike for 1-2k more in MSRP. I wouldn't expect yamaha to change much if anything for 2015
