This video is a blessing. My 5 month baby just put herself to sleep tonight for the 1st time. Gave her a bath, fed her (was falling asleep so I woke her), held her for 5 mins and put her in bed. I decided on a 10 min interval for check ups. She fell asleep after 15 mins of crying so didn't need to go in for a 2nd check up (1st check up I just placed my hand on her chest for less than 30 secs)

Jen Corin It’s hard to say exactly what to do without knowing what else is going on as far as sleep training is concerned. If baby is healthy and safe, I would allow her to fall asleep on her own after physically checking in to make sure she’s okay.

Yay! I’ve been waiting for this video! I sleep trained my daughter at 6.5 months using the Ferber Method but she had a regression at 8 months then everything went out the window. She’s now 15 months and I need sleep! Super helpful!
Hi thanks for the video. I researched about the topic and found out that sleep training should be done before 8 months and after 15 months for the cosleeping babies because this is the age that they have separation anxiety. So if a baby is between 8 and 15 and cosleep, just putting them in the crib and leave the room is problematic because of that reason. I have bought Natalie’s book but I did not found a specific section for this.
Co sleeping isn’t bad as people make it seem like. If you’re a calm sleeper, go ahead and do it. I hardly move in my sleep and it was very convenient for me especially since I work a lot and do not want to be getting out the bed through out the night. I’ve done this with both of my kids up until 4/5 months old.

My 18 month girl's daytime nap is the time for me to get rest and do some work-from-home assignments. So if i reduce not just her naps but hours of naps during the day, i just don't see me getting time for anything that doesn't involve her. Whenever she sees me with mobile or laptop, she has to come, fiddle and just disturb till i close it all and play with her. If i go by the advises here, i have to wake her before 4:30pm and put her to sleep 7-8pm. So all my personal work begins at 7pm.
Who are these adults who could go to sleep in a big flat cold empty bed with no pillows, no sheet/duvet for comfort, just laying there with nothing? Genuine question because I couldn’t so I don’t know why we would expect a baby to fall asleep with zero comforts lol.
Exactly. I’m still confused about parents who sleep all cuddled together and expect the baby to be ok sleeping alone. I mean cuddling is top tier comfort
I'm due in a month and this is something I've been thinking about a lot, so this video is perfect timing! Thank you so much for sharing all the sleep training knowledge!
Me too...due in a month and been studying how would I sleep train my newborn. He will be my 2nd baby. My first was easy to sleep train, but I did that at later age ( around 9 months). For this one, I hope I can train him from 1 month...
Noor A while I don’t advocate formal sleep training for your baby until they are 16 weeks old from their due date, I do have a newborn sleep guide that can help you from day one! www.babysleeptrainer.com/purchase-newborn-program/
So I started sleep training my 4 month old on Friday. It was hard just letting him cry it out for the first day. Saturday naps and nighttime still a struggle but he slept through. I forgot the pump before you go to bed part though lol. Then come Sunday, two out of three naps he still cried it out but then at night, when I put him down for bedtime, he didn't even argue just fell right asleep. During the day, I make sure the windows have a block out curtain and blinds so room is dark. At night, I do a bath routine then alexa's pure white noise since I dont have a noise machine. It works!!! Thank you guys so much! I hope this is the start of many well rested nights for both baby and Mama!
I’m surprised no one asked about naps. My baby is sleep trained (followed the Pantley method). He didn’t cry at all at night, but any time it’s nap time he resists so much😪😅
The method outlined in my online program will address exactly how to get baby to fall asleep for naps 100% independently. Also, take a look at this: www.babysleeptrainer.com/when-to-start-nap-training/
It is surprising that no questions are about nap. I think naps are very tricky. E.g., when babies are upset and ask for attention and help at night, and if you stick to the rule, he would finally fall asleep. But for nap, sometimes it means the nap is over. And the day time routine is messed up. And if they fall back into the habit of short nap, it takes much much more effort to go back to a good napper.
Thanks! I ordered your book and it is on the way. My baby is able to fall asleep both daytime and nighttime in his crib, with me putting a hand on his chest, or patting if necessary, and singing a specific song. But I am considering going forward to wean these minimum assistances. Can I do this by also following your sleep training method? I am concerned if I move forwards and it gets worse instead....
Thanks, this is very helpful. Just one thing struck me as very dangerous, that is advising that it is okay to let a baby under 12 months old to sleep on his stomach. According to doctors, SIDS makes up about 80% of sudden and unexpected infant deaths (SUIDs), and is often linked to babies sleeping on their side or stomach. Maybe this should have been mentioned as a reason why not to let the baby sleep in that position?
Thank you so much for this video! But can anyone answer this question for me?? If my baby is supposed to sleep for an hour but wakes up and cries after 20 minutes of napping, do you keep them crying in the crib till 1 hour hits or do you just get them because 20 min is all they can do for a nap? Thank you in advance to anyone who can answer this for me! 💖🙏
Great info here-thank you so much. I had a hard time listening because I felt the conversation was competing with the music too much. Maybe lower the music volume you play along with your vids?
Hmmm this makes me wonder if Montessori floor beds really aren't all that logical... But at the same time, it's nice that your child can learn to go to bed when they feel tired
I just started to teach on my own, without following any method to teach my baby to sleep. She turned 1 year old and she was still waking up every hour or 2. She wouldn’t sleep but with a bottle in her mouth, she almost never cared for pacifiers, and i am pregnant on the 8th month, so exhausting, sleep deprived for so long , i can’t carry her in my arms either.
I am so sorry you have been sleep deprived do so long, that is SO hard! Especially when pregnant! Check out my programs! www.babysleeptrainer.com/my-program/
This was super helpful!! Having my 2nd child this September...we had successfully sleep trained our first child (mainly because he was a preemie then and was in NICU for 2.5 months till his due date before allowed to come home, they had already trained to wake every 3 hrs to eat). But we weren’t entirely sure of what we were doing, other than following friends advice/tips and googling certain sleep training methods on google as we were overseas then. You are incredibly informative!! And indirectly validated some of the things we instinctively decided to do with our child when met with out of the norm situations! Not sure what this 2nd child will be like🙈, but hoping to not be as anxious this time and take it easy and enjoy the process!!
Hey, I am so late to this party …. Just in case: dropping one feed per week overnight - any advice on which to start with? We have an 8 month old who feeds every 3 hours, so line 7 pm, 10 pm, 1 or 2, then 4 or 5. In what order should we drop them?
Wish I could get my wife to watch your video and listen to your method!! She thinks crying it out is harmful and cruel!!! However I believe in everything your method teaches.
For now I am sleeping with my baby, he is 5 weeks old. I know it might be premature to start thinking of sleep training, but I intend to start as soon as his age will allow it, so my question is how do I sleep train in order to transition from cosleeping to putting him to sleep in his own crib. It is possible to use the method cry it out as you described it? I also share a room with the baby because of spacing issue, we live in a one-bedroom apartment. I guess I will try the partition from IKEA. Thank you for any answer in advance.
Thanks for the videos on sleep training! Would you reset your baby back to the middle/lower part of thr crib when he's been crying for a few minutes and out of frustration, kicked it way up the crib to the point his head would bumb the crib?
I have been sleep training my 4 month girl for 2 weeks without success. The sleep at night is not bad but she really struggles with naps. Do you have any advice?
I have twice and they are 7 months and I have a big problem because they don't drink the bottle if they are not sleep so what can I do to tech team sleep turning
I want to ask, if the baby were sleeping all night and sudenly it stoped, and now he is waking up in the middel of night, and cry, what i need to do?? Thank you
You mention white noise a few times and I’ve heard a lot of sleep consultants suggest it recently, but I don’t understand how that is not considered a sleep prop or assistance.
I heard that there was something called sleep training. It is supposed to help your newborn to get on the right schedule when it comes to sleeping. I want to know if anyone has heard about this.
This was us 18 months ago, so I hear where you are coming from!! During the day, our 'nap' routine basically became: soothe for 30+ minutes (swaddling, rocking, running the water, white noise, dark room, sling, walks, lullabies - you name it), he'd finally fall asleep, he'd sleep in my arms (he wouldn't sleep in his bed at all) for 10-30 minutes, then he'd wake up screaming, and we'd go through it all again. I knew he was exhausted. No joy. After two months of things getting worse and worse (and Baby getting crabbier and crabbier), we all finally decided to give sleep training a try. This video about sleep training helped us a lot bit.ly/2Uda4tH
What do I do if after my son goes to sleep after all the process of the training but he only sleeps for 30 minutes and then is back up? He just turned 5 months old yesterday.
Hello..on first day of nap training if baby don't sleep on first attempt then we take a break of 30-60 minutes and try for second attempt but my didn't sleep in that second attempt also..so my question is we have to continue keep trying in that same day for third attempt or we try on next day.. please reply as soon as possible
I am dying here. My girl is 22 months and we are trying to sleep train. We have co-slept thus far. I guess better late than never. But we made so many mistakes already and we also converted from crib to toddler bed because she is a jumper and I do not feel it is safe. How do we sleep train an almost 2 year old in a toddler bed?
Of course no one knows that a baby feels that they have been abandoned but there are studies that show that baby is under deep distress. Please do some research before letting your baby cry it out. Here is a good article to start with: www.google.com/amp/s/www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/moral-landscapes/201112/dangers-crying-it-out%3famp
I'm so nervous for sleep training. My child is only 10weeks old but we can barely put her down without her crying, so we carry her in a sling a lot. This also means that she will not sleep at night without sleeping on us. So I'm nervous for the transition since she is to young to train.
Ashley Zieman Ashley Zieman please don't start sleeping training at 10 weeks! Your baby needs you... Do whatever it takes right now and work on sleep training when she is older. My baby was the same way, she started sleeping through the night at 5 1/2 months. Be patient and try to enjoy the closeness which won't last long.
Please don’t worry, almost all babies struggle with something similar to this as newborns. Here is a great article to read on transitioning. www.babysleeptrainer.com/myth-of-transitioning-away-from-sleep-props/
@@mper8364 oh I will absolutely wait with training her till she is older!! ❤ I am just nervous because she only sleeps on me at night. (Husband works nights). And it's a while till I can start to help her!
Ashley Zieman I know exactly how you feel! My baby was the same way till about 13 - 14 weeks. Swaddling helped so much! I found some swaddles from Target called SwaddleMe, the others she would just squirm out. Might be something worth a try? I never had her sleep on my chest swaddled though. Keep doing what you are doing. She WILL grow out of that and by no means are you 'spoiling' her. She just needs her mommy. ❤️
Ashley Zieman one tip on having your baby sleep on you at night.. I would put my baby on my chest and one pillow under each arm so that my arms would stay elevated and prevent her from rolling off. :)
Thankyou. This is very useful. Just a bit of constructive feedback. I think the background music made it very hard for me to understand what she is saying (on low volume) because of the background music. Also she speaks little fast I find it hard to follow. Apart from that thanks a lot for your time and efforts xx
CIO can harm baby and mother's bond. When the baby cries it is communicating, its the caregivers role to attend to the cry so the baby knows he/she is not alone and being cared for. CIO increases their cortisol level for days after the occurrence. They pass out from crying due to the high level of stress and basically their brain shuts down because they realize no one is coming to help them. In addition, while the baby is crying it out, the mothers cortisol level spikes, but evens off after the baby stops. Thats where the bond is harmed - mommy and baby are no longer in sync.
@@lilylebowsky5908 or maybe that sleep is a necessity not a luxury for both baby and mother and every mother should do whatever feels right for them in order to be the best version of themselves for their children! Not a zombie absent version 😊
I am so disturbed by how many people in these comments are on board with this. It's funny how people think their baby and themselves should be a walking spreadsheet. This is just sick. The ends don't justify the means. 4months? Are you kidding me? babies are so small and delicate....this really angers me....

Great video! Wish you answered questions about naps though!!
www.babysleeptrainer.com/when-to-start-nap-training/ :)
I bought the book and I’m trying to start good habits. My baby was premie so preparing for when we can train.
Thanks for sharing. Lots of good info. She talks too fast though. A little bit of pause helps with her points to be more comprehensible
Please do more research before committing to CIO. It can be very detrimental to your baby's physical and mental well-being.
Noor A while I don’t advocate formal sleep training for your baby until they are 16 weeks old from their due date, I do have a newborn sleep guide that can help you from day one! www.babysleeptrainer.com/purchase-newborn-program/
Thank you so much! Such a great video with so much good information. How not to watch it all!
Jean Navarro this is great! I’m so happy you’re getting the sleep you need!
This video is exactly what in needed to watch! I'm starting sleep training naw, thank you🙏
Sleep training is so worth it!!
Been waiting for this video!!
I just found your UA-cam channel. Thank you for the sleep training video.
I’m surprised no one asked about naps. My baby is sleep trained (followed the Pantley method). He didn’t cry at all at night, but any time it’s nap time he resists so much😪😅
Ugh me too I need nap advice!
The method outlined in my online program will address exactly how to get baby to fall asleep for naps 100% independently. Also, take a look at this: www.babysleeptrainer.com/when-to-start-nap-training/
Rapid extinction sleep training sounds like the cruelest thing I’ve ever heard of
Best.youtube.video.ever 👏👏👏 loved it. Thank you for this Susan . So informative.
ABSOULTEY!! Nap training is usually much harder than night training, and nap training is addressed in a lot of detail in my program.

:)
Very good! Thanks 🙏🏼
Helpful video! Background music was distracting though
This was AMAZINGLY helpful!!! Did you train nights and naps at the same time?
Thank you, this is very helpful 🥰
So thankful for this!!!
So what do you do before 16 weeks!? I’m drowning 😭😩😭
This was the best
Thanks, this is very helpful. Just one thing struck me as very dangerous, that is advising that it is okay to let a baby under 12 months old to sleep on his stomach. According to doctors, SIDS makes up about 80% of sudden and unexpected infant deaths (SUIDs), and is often linked to babies sleeping on their side or stomach. Maybe this should have been mentioned as a reason why not to let the baby sleep in that position?
Thank you!
Maybe lower the music volume you play along with your vids?
agh i love this video so much.
Hmmm this makes me wonder if Montessori floor beds really aren't all that logical... But at the same time, it's nice that your child can learn to go to bed when they feel tired
Pretty sure Montessori principles don't exactly align well w traditional sleep training methods
Please advise, should you start sleep trying with day naps or night sleep?
I just started to teach on my own, without following any method to teach my baby to sleep. She turned 1 year old and she was still waking up every hour or 2. She wouldn’t sleep but with a bottle in her mouth, she almost never cared for pacifiers, and i am pregnant on the 8th month, so exhausting, sleep deprived for so long , i can’t carry her in my arms either.
I am so sorry you have been sleep deprived do so long, that is SO hard! Especially when pregnant! Check out my programs! www.babysleeptrainer.com/my-program/
Oh yinz guy’s answered it ,thanks
My 5-month old usually gets gassy from crying too much. How do I prevent that while sleep training my baby? Thanks!
Very helpful thanku ❤️
What about diapers change in the middle of the night? What do you do?
Hey, I am so late to this party …. Just in case: dropping one feed per week overnight - any advice on which to start with? We have an 8 month old who feeds every 3 hours, so line 7 pm, 10 pm, 1 or 2, then 4 or 5. In what order should we drop them?
Ummm..what about parents of multiples? I have twins so how do you handle that component?
Thank you for any answer in advance.
guys please wait till your baby is 12 months old at least, so it won’t harm and effect child developmemt
Muzak a tad too loud .esp if its a convo no music if even necessarimy imo :) new fan of ur channel
Leah She actually said it was a sleep prop, but one that was acceptable to use in this case.
a-w-e-s-o-m-e!!
@emilycons5
Such great information!!! Moms can never have too much info that can help their babies sleep better!!
My son is 6 weeks, is that too early to start sleep training / Ferber method??
Thank you for this video!
Here is a good article to start with:
www.google.com/amp/s/www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/moral-landscapes/201112/dangers-crying-it-out%3famp
can we please get a vid on naps
That was a great video
Shoutout to moms that co-slept and sleep trained late because of survival mode.
This is TRULY heart breaking yet most of youtube is covered with let babies cry so you can still have a life like before you had a baby.
