my baby is just 2 months old, one thing I learned is to trust my husband and compliment him on how well he is with the baby, it boost his confident on taking care of the baby and he is better than me now.
Susan is a rare combination of beautiful and successful, while also being extremely relatable and non-judgmental. She has an incredible, welcoming, kind energy.
I have to say, this is gold. I immediately shared this to my best friend who just became a first time mom the other day. This is exactly the stuff I learned with my daughter that I applied with my son. Especially the social life thing. Most of the time the first year, you just stay in your house and stick to your baby’s schedule because an overtired baby is a pissed off, not sleeping well baby. A year or two is a year or two. You have their whole lives to do all of this stuff, I totally believe in just giving them a schedule and sticking to it! Oh and my son was the same way, just kick kick kick at random times, he is a great sleeper, don’t worry!!!
I am currently expecting my first baby! 💛 I'm 10 weeks pregnant! So I'm trying to learn as much as I can! Thanks for the great video! Very informative! 🥰🥰
You are completely right about the social life never being the same! And we did the same about judging other parents before being parents ourselves! Our Friday nights are now spent putting our son to bed at 8pm and watching tv on the couch. We try to do what we can when we can. Also you are so right about trying to be by the book in the beginning. As a new time parent I was so anxious all the time about getting everything right so I wouldn’t mess up my baby for the future and I ended realizing I got to follow his lead and take things day by day and try to take some pressure off myself. Everything ends up working out in the end. ❤️
Great video. As a FTM I almost drove myself crazy trying to do everything by the book. I spent soo much time googling only to find 6 different answers to 1 question. It became much better when I finally just did what worked best for us and stopped trying to follow the "rules". I wish all FTM are told this and have it repeated often. Do what works best for you and your family!
You posted this on the day my little boy was born! I have to say that I was really good at letting my husband figure things out pretty early on. Now 7 weeks in and he is essential to my sanity. I’ll pump at night and he will care for our baby for 6 hours straight through at night so that I can rest without disturbance. If we let our partners be a part of it they can really step up and show us they ARE capable. ❤️
You saved me with your comment about letting go!! I thought it was only me! You’ve eased my mind and for that I adore you. I used to get angry that he’d sleep through her crying and seemingly didnt calm her like I did. It’s such a hard lesson to swallow as a mother and a woman. Thanks for this honesty 😌❤️
With my husband and I, it was the opposite. He was the one giving me anxiety. It drove me crazy whenever he would stand over me like a drill sergeant while I changed our son’s diaper or fix his hair, etc. I became very resentful towards him. And I definitely agree with the social life part too. Once I started saying no to invites, life became easier for me. Schedules are a must with my son.
I had a baby with reflux and I also had a very complicated C-section that got infected. Having all the baby clothes washed and ready to go, especially when my kid was going through 10 to 12 outfits a day, was a lifesaver for me. It was hard enough for me to walk back and forth to the nursery to change the baby's clothes, I can't imagine having to do laundry also.
100% agree, I just want to add for the New moms... you are the mom, it’s your body, it’s your baby, you are the one dealing with a new life 24/7, if you hava a vaginal delivery, csection, breast feed, formula... Gosh you are doing great 👍🏻 Don’t listen to the ones that “know everything” or it was better this or that way... your baby and your husband need a happy and stress free Mom! It took me 2 weeks PP to stop listening and those 2 weeks were hard... now 17 weeks pregnant of baby #2 😍 and Love all your videos Susan!!
As a first time mom, this was absolutely EXACTLY what I needed to watch right now. I found myself hovering over my husband, I finally learned to let it go and let him have his thing. Also breastfeeding! Just know it’s now as easy some people make it seem but don’t feel pressured either to feel like that’s how you have to feed your baby. I remember when we seen a lactation nurse she recommended to pump Atleast 8 times a day on top of nursing! Your sanity and health is very important. I put so much pressure on myself to do both I was not getting proper sleep.
For me the hardest part was the lack of sleep during the first month. My baby is pretty chill and was sleeping well, however I was not. I had terrible anxiety and I would just lay awake and worry about everything that could go wrong while he was sleeping. It was really bad and literally helpless. But like everything else it passes and I wish I could go back in time and tell myself that.
Thank you so much for being so honest about cosleeping and how you’ve done everything. It’s hard for people to be honest and share when others are so judgmental.
I agree with you 100%.. Being a first time mom is a journey with lots of hardships and also many overwhelming moments.. Being prepared for everything is the key sometimes..
The warmth thing! My ped said just to add one layer more than you'd wear. I see so many babies in the middle of summer in long sleeves with a heavy blanket and I just cringe. Also, for my child she was a little heater (still is). And I learned that she always felt warm no matter what but that her back near her neck was the perfect spot to reeeeally understand if she was too hot or too cold. Her hands were always freezing, her belly always super warm but her neck was a perfect indication.
my best friend has had a baby and im TTC, I can feel myself thinking 'I might do that differently' but I always just try to follow her lead with her baby, if we have lunch plans and I get there and things are abit much I will go out and get us lunch.... I bring dinner to her and just sit quietly and offer a wipe when shes having a mare of it all. I try so hard not to comment because I gather that's part of the fun..... figuring this all out and saying 'yes!!! we did it!!' I can imagine it wouldnt be the same when I have one, my friend will be my go to for every little thing to be sure I am trying everything to make our lives easier. I love this idea and cant wait till I can offer my tips.
I loved this video! I have a 17 month old and am 18 weeks pregnant with our 2nd. You reminded me of everything I worried about the first time around that I now look back on proud that I made it through. I’m nervous and excited for round 2! And everything you said really resonated with me as a first time, soon to be 2nd time, mom. 💗
excellent video and insight! My (first) baby is 7 months old and I totally agree with these...I still feel like I don't sleep at night thinking about my baby
Susan- you mention keeping tags on clothes and specific things you could buy or get from your shower that you won’t use, do you ask people to give receipts with everything you get to make returns easy? How do you go about that? It’s such a great point I never really thought of. I would rather return/exchange things I will use rather than getting things that will get no use and money going down the drain.
I'm expecting my first baby and I really appreciate all the info you provide but while watching all I can think about is "Oh my god! I love her make up & hair style" It's very fresh and minimalist. just beautiful
Very true, my husband got upset with me for telling him how to hold the baby and stuff, UH?!😳 imagine that! Men can be sensitive about these things so be gentle it’s true let them figure things out.
I just found out I was pregnant 4 days ago after trying for 2 months prior and we’re so excited!! This was really helpful : ) I love how calm you are and the quality of your videos is great!
Hey! I'm from the U.K. and I'm 5 months pregnant with my first child. I honestly don't know what to expect, and I like being mentally prepared. Your video has helped me soooo much! And I've subscribed. Thank you very much for the advice!
that was actually a really helpful video. I'm due in 9 weeks and i think this has really changed my expectations and feel a little more ready for this munchkin to come along. Thanks Susan :)
I will be a second time mom in a couple weeks! I wish someone told me all of this during my first pregnancy. And I wish I would have been more open to other mom’s SOUND advice. I can say the way I handled my first baby was completely unorganized and needless to say unstructured and messy. I had no direction. But I also realize how much more humble I am for pointers this second time around.. This is truly gold. And I will be using these tips. Thankyou
Yup. My husband and I argued most about me not letting him figure out how to be a parent without me micromanaging. I was also expecting to have a schedule for everything when my now 10 month old was born. He does not like a schedule, and that was tough thing to let go of.
aguadalupedo you will be a great mom! I watched lots of videos while I was pregnant too. Being a mom is hard but it will also be the best thing that ever happened to you. And remember it’s ok not to love every second of it. There is lots of ups and downs just like regular life.
I like that you pointed out that saying no to people is okay. It's soooo much better than flaking all the time. People start losing their confidence in you when that regularly happens. That being said flaking because your child is sick or extra fussy is completely understandable
Hi Susan! Love your videos, so informational! I noticed for this one you switch back and forth between up close back out to half torso a lot and it is very distracting. I don't normally make mention but just a thought for future videos. Lots of love!
I soooo agree about taking tags off clothing. Everyone thought because me and my husband are so tall, our baby was going to be big and long. Everyone told me to stock up on 3 mos size instead of newborn. She ended up being tiny when she was born, she stayed in NB size for a long time! And we ended up having to run out the week we brought her home to buy her more NB size PJs/sleep and plays. Luckily she also was in 3M for quite some time too. Overall, Great tips Susan! I agree 100% with everything you said because i had the same experiences. All new Moms need to see this video.
This video is great! My first is 6 weeks old and I wish I’d heard these words of wisdom before she got here. I definitely gave my husband anxiety but learned to back off quickly. Thankfully. Good job on the content!
I also think the weight of the baby at birth really helps and determines how well they will sleep. My little girl was 9lbs 8oz and was a good sleeper. I was so worried about not getting sleep but I would set alarms and wake her to feed her. So I really did not have a hard time with that even at the beginning which was a blessing. But I was talking with someone who have bigger babies as well and she said it was the same for her.. she said it’s to do with their digestive system being a little more mature and there stomach being bigger. I totally agree with you clothing statement , I will not take tags off with my second for sure !
I'm so glad I found this video. I was due December 17th, but now we are just hoping I can make it to be induced November 26th. That little shift in the timeline has kinda freaked us out and it's nice to get some reassurance.
#7 that was exactly me with my first kid!!!! I was literally hovering over my goodness! I have let go more with the second kid and my husband seems to spend more time chillin with the baby. Definitely the anxiety levels have reduced. #7 is so important to be aware.
SAME on babywearing. My son loves it now, but it would have made my maternity leave so much easier and getting through the 4th trimester a lot less exhausting had I stuck with it.
Letting go-couldn't agree more about the husband issue. Went through the same thing. I also think it takes men longer for their paternal instincts to kick in so it can be frustrating. It is tough to watch though. The other thing I would say to have on hand right away are things like baby tylenol, gripe water and gas drops. You never know when you'll need that and no one wants to run to the store in the middle of the night to help their baby feel better.
I wish this video came out sooner. My baby has cradle cap.. i used the calendula cream.. but no brush as i am too scared to brush his tiny head . All the best to you and all other new moms... you are all doing great job..
When my baby was in NICU, the nurse said that sometime people keep the room to a temp like they're going to bake bread. She said baby will get used to the normal temp the parents are in. My baby took after me, in that I'm always burning up...
My little Angel is now two month old and I went through a lot of up and downs and I am sure there will be more to come. I found your video very helpful and I can see myself in a lot of the points espescially the one with the husband. I guess I have to apologize to him for that.
I JUST overcame my sons Cradle Cap. He will be 5 months old tomorrow and I was a little anti-olive/coconut oil but the olive oil is what helped the most! Our Ped. prescribed a medicated shampoo but I felt that just made it worse. Love this video! Totally relate to some if not most of your content. :)
Thank you so much for your videos! I'm not a mom yet but I took your tips because some day I would like to be a good mom as you are! I have learned a lot with your videos! Kisses and hugs for you and your family from Cuba!
The cradle cap babies can get is so wild. I used one of those little baby combs and some coconut oil and I was covered in dandruff that day. lol. I hadn't thought about brushing preemptively.
This is great. The points are informative and yes nobody mentions stuffs about it in particular. I am glad you discussed them. Thanks and kudos to new mommies 👍😍
Hi, i have recently daignosed of hashimoto's disease and started my medication. In one of your videos I learned that you too have it. So Could you make a video on hashimoto disease for 1st time mothers. Thank you
Hey, I also have it and just know that you are not alone! I went on diagnosed for a year and believe me when I say it damaged my mental state and my life so much, I basically lived like a zombie for a year and finally was diagnosed when my symptoms of non-functioning depression were alarmingly intense. I hope the medication is working for you and you're feeling better, it did for me and I'm feeling much better
I want to add something.. people are going to give you crap no matter what you do. Weather it’s the recommended way or your own style, just remember that YOU are the parent and don’t give in to whatever pressure people put you under.
I was about to wash all of the clothes for my baby girl so glad i watched this firsts because it makes so much sense i don’t know how big or small she is going to be. Thanks for all the tips im a first time mom and i have no idea as to what im going to do when she gets here.
Susan could you do a video on how to look put together if you work from home and take care of baby, I see your outfits and love your style, any insight on that would be awesome, thank you!
Butt paste is great!! My kid slept through the night right away and I put the diaper cream on right before bed and if he got wet it would keep him from getting diaper rash even though he was sleeping for 4-8 hours. Great advice :)
Just wondering if you'll be making a video on what baby girl clothes you'll be getting? Curious to know which brands you recommend. I really like Carter's for baby boys but not too sure on their girls range.
In your opinion how long should you stay "in" and away from everyone as a new mom and new baby? I know everyone wants to come over and see the new baby but should there be a time of rest and adjustment for Mom, Dad and baby before the family and the friends and the camera's come in?
My social life will remain 99% the same because all my friends are overworked introverts so I only see them once a month when they come over for dinner as is! My life is sad.
My oldest brother did not like to be swaddled and held. Ever. He didn't want people in his face or holding him. Which my parents didn't figure out until two or three months after they had him. Once they realized that swaddling and cuddling upset him, he was a much happier baby. It's something I know is rare with babies, but it is also something that is good to be aware of--there's no one size fits all solution.
Don't agree with your opinion about the natural oils especially coconut oil. But everyone different, just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it's not great for the baby 🤷🏾♀️. Maybe I'm not an overthinker & learned as teen-adult yrs to be calm during situations I need to over come. Less stress/anxiety! as I suffer from anxiety. Other then that great video from your perspective! 💞 I'm having my first baby at 28 & Currently 7 months!
Agree so much with all of this. Lol. My first baby, first day home in the morning he would not sleep. My mom came over, put a baby hat on him, put him in his crib and he fell right to sleep! He was so new he needed his head covered. Mind = blown
I wish I had watched this earlier, I'm on baby#2 and JUST figured out most of these things a month in, the hard way 😅 I guess us moms really are much more chill with the second, because I've also done most of these things with my second!!
I can confirm the part where you shouldn’t over dress your baby!! I was born during June in L.A. and my mother used to overdress me a lot and then one day started developing a rash. She went to the pediatrician about it and it turns out that the rash was because I was overdressed!!!! So please, don’t over dress your baby. Heat is irritating for us all, even the little ones!!
my baby is just 2 months old, one thing I learned is to trust my husband and compliment him on how well he is with the baby, it boost his confident on taking care of the baby and he is better than me now.
Iris Li I’ve been trying to compliment my husband too, it helps me and it helps him 💕
This is a great suggestion. A complete game-changer.
Susan is a rare combination of beautiful and successful, while also being extremely relatable and non-judgmental. She has an incredible, welcoming, kind energy.

Daniele Amani congratulations on your pregnancy!
Congratulations!!! It's stressful at times but omg it's so rewarding your baby will love u so much and it'll all be worth it
“ I felt like I had to be there or my baby might not make it” 😂 same girl, same

100% agree, I just want to add for the New moms... you are the mom, it’s your body, it’s your baby, you are the one dealing with a new life 24/7, if you hava a vaginal delivery, csection, breast feed, formula... Honestly the best pregnancy video I’ve seen so far. Very helpful!
2 weeks till my due date and this video couldn’t be more perfect to watch
Nicole Nezbitt Truth About Vaccines Docu series 💯❤️

Good advice! As someone with anxiety and not being able to sleep sometimes I can see this totally being me 😂
I’m 23 weeks with my first baby, I needed this video! Thank you.
Thank you so much for being so honest about cosleeping and how you’ve done everything. It’s hard for people to be honest and share when others are so judgmental.
5 weeks and 3 days left till I have my daughter! 💖 Thanks for all the tips. Super helpful.
This was exactly what I needed to watch as a 39week pregnant first time mum, Thankyou for sharing all of your knowledge xx
I agree with you 100%.. Being a first time mom is a journey with lots of hardships and also many overwhelming moments.. Being prepared for everything is the key sometimes..

Susan 100% spot on. You are a great mama (first time and second time) 👍🏻💪🏻

That husband point you mentioned is hilarious because I can see myself doing that to my husband. I will avoid it =) Thank you!
Lampadas Horde oh gosh I did this hardcore and still am! So hard not to, it’s a learning experience lol
Same here.. I also do that..
Very true, my husband got upset with me for telling him how to hold the baby and stuff, UH?!😳 imagine that! Men can be sensitive about these things so be gentle it’s true let them figure things out.

Yup. My husband and I argued most about me not letting him figure out how to be a parent without me micromanaging. I was also expecting to have a schedule for everything when my now 10 month old was born. He does not like a schedule, and that was tough thing to let go of.
I’m currently 31 weeks and single. And I’m freaking out. This video helped a lot. Thank you.

Hi Susan! Love your videos, so informational! I noticed for this one you switch back and forth between up close back out to half torso a lot and it is very distracting. I don't normally make mention but just a thought for future videos. Lots of love!
This is hands down the best advice yet....🙌🏼
I soooo agree about taking tags off clothing. Everyone thought because me and my husband are so tall, our baby was going to be big and long. Everyone told me to stock up on 3 mos size instead of newborn. She ended up being tiny when she was born, she stayed in NB size for a long time! SAME on babywearing. My son loves it now, but it would have made my maternity leave so much easier and getting through the 4th trimester a lot less exhausting had I stuck with it.
I love that shirt! I can’t stop looking at it!

You never know when you'll need that and no one wants to run to the store in the middle of the night to help their baby feel better.
Totally agree with everything in this video. Especially the bit about anxiety and your hubby...Same thing happened with me!
This is the video I needed before my first baby! Agree 3000%!!! Love you
I wish this video came out sooner. My baby has cradle cap.. i used the calendula cream.. but no brush as i am too scared to brush his tiny head . All the best to you and all other new moms... you are all doing great job..
This is such an informative video for 1st time moms, thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for the advice about baby sleep!
I totally agree everything in this video... Very true to wat u said about’ How many of u love watching her videos?!
When my baby was in NICU, the nurse said that sometime people keep the room to a temp like they're going to bake bread. She said baby will get used to the normal temp the parents are in. My baby took after me, in that I'm always burning up...
You speek from the bottom of my heart!!! You are so right i completely agree with you! Thank u for this video
Thank you soooo much for these videos!🙏 As a new mom still learning this is so helpful. Thank you!
Irene Ortiz I used a organic cradle cap balm worked great
Susan, where did you get your long necklace from?!?! I NEED to know! It's so beautiful.
Wow....
I'm currently pregnant and this video really gave me some perspective. Thanks so much
Thank you so much for your videos!
This is so practical! Thank you for sharing. Especially lesson #7 about letting go...I can totally see myself doing the same to my husband. lol.
First time mam since 10months and absolutely agree with you on everything ! Thank you great video
Having a second baby in April, your video is amazing!!! First one I watched and I’m going to subscribe
I love how real this is!
Questions:
After globing the diaper rash cream on, how do you get it off?
At what point can babies sleep deeply without worry of SIDS?
thank you. great advice and realistic expectations
OMG 😍😍 i was just waiting for your video.. you are absolutely talented .. most adorable and genuine UA-camr ever .. who else think ??????? 🎥👍 Hit
I want to add something.. people are going to give you crap no matter what you do. Weather it’s the recommended way or your own style, just remember that YOU are the parent and don’t give in to whatever pressure people put you under.
This was absolutely helpful! Wow, so many things I can relate to. Thank you from a South African mommy :)
Love this video. Yes it took a lot to accept my new life and I couldn’t be the social butterfly I used to be!
Lavender oil diluted really works well as well.
I can watch your videos all day! I just love learning so much from you ☺️
Gonna save this video for future me when I get pregnant thanks ❤️✨
Why are these advices not given by the hospitals ? So great to have an honest youtuber tell you all you need to know.
I'll be a mom July next year ❤️ thanks for this video!
Is the baby here ?
@@crystalallen10 Yes he's here now ❤️
Just wondering if you'll be making a video on what baby girl clothes you'll be getting? Curious to know which brands you recommend. I really like Carter's for baby boys but not too sure on their girls range.
I love your baby videos! I’m so excited to see your baby girl
You're life is great ... that sounds peaceful
@@crystalallen10 I'm an extrovert. I'm going slowly insane.
@@adorabell4253 ohhh wow, so sorry... hope you find mom friends that you can spend time with often ... or eventually reunite with your old friends
New Mommy over here 👈 thank you so much these are great tips :) i am excited to see how my baby will be
My oldest brother did not like to be swaddled and held.
Thank you for being real
Don't agree with your opinion about the natural oils especially coconut oil. But everyone different, just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it's not great for the baby 🤷🏾♀️. Maybe I'm not an overthinker & learned as teen-adult yrs to be calm during situations I need to over come. Less stress/anxiety! as I suffer from anxiety. Other then that great video from your perspective! 💞 I'm having my first baby at 28 & Currently 7 months!
i love your channel! I used to watch you ALOT when i was expecing! xx
i appreciate very much your honesty. Nice talk. got a lot of good stuff!
These are great tips!! 🙏🏻😇
Seriously have to comment again because this video is SO ON POINT with all the tips ! Thank you for such great content * new subscriber *
