So a couple of notes for people watching this video and looking for an exhaust. Before I start, IMO, the 2 best sounding exhausts for the 982 4.0 is JCR and Kline. As noted in the video, the JCR non-silenced exhaust isn't as quiet as the Kline exhaust when the valves are closed. The reason for this is that JCR was looking for a smaller delta between valves closed and open so that people who did NOT want to add a valve controller would be happier with the sound of the goofy factory valve programming. This was perfect for me since I didn't want to do the valve controller as I felt it was too invasive of a mod and not something I could reverse quickly before I took the car in for service. JCR has a silenced version that is quieter when the valves are closed and better suited for people looking for a quieter valves closed setup like the Kline, however, you may need a valve controller in this case to override the factory valve programming. Basically, you can't go wrong with JCR or Kline, they both sound fantastic. I think it would come down to price and availability on which one a 982 4.0 owner should choose. I have videos on my channel of the JCR in case you want to compare.
Just bought this exact system along with the caragraphic valve controller for my soon to arrive BGTS 4.0, I am so excited, thank you for the great video, this really sold it for me.
Thanks Kit!!! I am sold! Will be ordering mine tomorrow! I only have 150 miles on my new Spyder so not sure if I should get through break in before installing these. I will look into it.
Excellent review, really enjoy hearing a real owners point of view. Interesting info about the stock exhaust system going straight out, maybe that's why some people are seeing less Hp when they benched the JCR. I'm on the fence between cargraphics or the Kline. The Kline sounds brilliant better then the cargraphics but that could be the because of the opf delete. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for sharing your impression & experience with the Kline exhaust, really well done! I'm thinking of changing my 4.0L GT4's Akrapovic ship-on exhaust to the Kline. Initially went with Akrapovic & their OAP's with the stock manifolds. Car was loud, dull, & with too much base character. Akrapovic eventually "broke in" and improved somewhat, however still a boring sound for a GT car. Then I added Dundon Motorsports long tube headers with their catalyst included OAP. Car is now a monster (esp with the Dundon Protune), and even bit louder than previously. Still overall disappointing b/c bass quality predominates. Your Spyder's Kline sounds GREAT, just not sure how my Dundon GT4 would sound with a Kline ?? It sure would be nice to have the higher pitch frequency similar to your Spyder's. 😁
Hello there! I have Soul sport catted headers and Soul OAP. Thinking about getting Kline rear to complete it (and sell soul OAP). Did you notice any power gains especially after driving it for a while? I noticed Porsche takes couple hundred miles to adapt to new exhaust. Concerned that the Kline’s little mufflers/can on the OAP take away some power vs the straight throughs of other OAP’s like soul.
hm, the mufflers on the OAP pipes are completely straight through so they are not a flow restriction. I'd be willing to bet there is no power difference. I didn't notice any real power gains but I'm pretty numb as far as butt dyno goes. :)
@@KitsCars I wonder if it gets reasonable quieter with another set of resonators. In the meantime I am currently leaning to start with OAP delete link pipes w PSE.
Nice one Kit! To confirm this is just the back box replacement with stock OPF? Nice to hear that it catapults it as one of the best sounding of your cars, encouraging since so many people have bashed the stock sound. Is it SS or Inconel?
That’s what I read too… I was worried! But, I find this pretty livable. What I haven’t tried is driving with the top up… it’s possible it might be more droney in a GT4. Will report back once I have tried that. I know some people mention also blocking off the resonance tube that feeds sound into the cabin.
Kit nice video. I have a Spyder on order. Had an opportunity to drive one the other day and the exhaust note definitely leaves something to be desired. I have warranty concerns about adding an aftermarket exchaust. What are your thoughts on this? RWM
Thanks! Hmm - usually most dealerships are good with anything behind the cats. No guarantees if they get upset with the OPF filters but I doubt it will cause issues.
@@rWmyoutube it is illegal to deny a warranty claim unless it is directly related to the modification. See Moss-Magnusson act. But like Kit said, it would be a good idea to talk with your dealer. It's a perfectly valid question - why go from one of history's absolute best naturally aspirated motors to one that is... good maybe even great but not the best? 1. I missed having a convertible - the GT3 was amazing on track but on the street, especially twisty mountain roads, where you aren't easily able to use all of the power, the Spyder feels pretty good. 2. I am taking a break from doing track days to focus on work etc so the Spyder made sense. 3. I tend to cycle through cars pretty quickly and took some money off the table with the GT3 (I made a good amount from the time I bought to the time I sold... and I sold it a bit too early as pricing has continued skyward but am glad to take some profit while I could. The Spyder is great and the exhaust makes it way better to where it's more enjoyable on a twisty road and just as aurally exciting
Hello there!!!! can you tell me please what equipment are you using for this video? Do you use insta360 with external mic?? By the way, your car sounds perfect!!!
@@KitsCars thank you so much for your reply!!! Do you use the delkin mount?? Is it possible please to tell me which mic do you use? Because the sound quality is perfect!!!
Kit great review. I have a 2021 718 Spyder. I’m very interested in adding the car graphic controller as well as an updated exhaust. My Porsche dealer (Porsche Newport Beach) told me it would violate and void my warranty. Have you had that experience or been told the same thing from your dealer?
My dealer has been good about anything post cat, as long as I am not complaining about a directly associated part. But Porsche is getting stricter. The valve controller is a gray area since it's just electrical but can throw some (non-CEL) faults. I've run aftermarket exhausts on nearly all my cars and it hasn't been a problem but I'd certainly have a chat with your service advisor.
Hi, I don’t have part numbers, but Kline only makes 2 exhausts for the 718 GT4/Spyder, and they look identical. One is Stainless Steel, one is Iconel. I have the SS version, and just the back box/muffler section plus the OPF delete pipes, I left the headers and cats stock.
@@KitsCars Thanks for the reply. I am next in line for an allocation for a GT4. The sound you have in your car is what I am looking for. Thinks for the great review.
Well done vid. This is the first 982 I've heard that sounds good. ALL of the others are disappointing. You car has that legit race car snarl - very angry at the shift points. PDK right? Did you remove the opfs? Thanks for sharing. Hopefully other 982 owners will make this change. Perhaps it might even help the hapless 4 cylinder cars.

That sounds so much better than stock! I didn't expect that big of a difference. Good audio capture of it too!
Haha it makes a huge difference! I was surprised too but very pleased
this and the jcr seem to be the best sounding 718 gt4 exhausts!
You can't really go wrong with klien, jcr or soul performance they make this car sound like absolute sex... So far everyone els sounds like ass.

It sounds nearly identical. I wouldn't spend the extra $$$
@@KitsCars Thanks for the quick reply, you heard both in person, ya? Thanks
Yeah! I've heard it in person.
Have you considered the Soul Race system with resonators? It's a Single path X-pipe without valve control - It also offers considerable weight saving
I did! The problem with the Soul Race is that it doesn't shut up and can be a bit much on the highway. I am sort of getting old :)
