What blew my mind was the dev saying "you can't get a sense of their personality from just a 10 minute trailer" when Valve's 'meet the team' shorts did that within 30 seconds for each of the classes.
If you can't give a sense of a character's personality in ten minutes, it doesn't mean the character is deep. It means the writer is bad at writing. Ten minutes is an eternity.
There is something to be said about *adding* to a character after their surface level personality is established (Which is what they "probably" meant by that 10 minute statement.) Of course, such only matters if people are interested enough to you know....*stick around and find out.* Obviously, they failed to follow through. Womp womp.
One of the few positive things I'll say about Overwatch is it's character designs. You can look at characters like Tracer, Widowmaker, and Winston for example, and instantly understand what their character personality and traits are solely based on their looks and poses. Not a single thing stood out from the cast of Concord and that killed the game.
Watched XQC play this on Kick and oh boy am I glad I didn’t purchase this XD To put things into perspective: Concord's death was the equivalent of walking to the bus stop and all of the sudden seeing a well dressed trapeze artist hit the pavement. I never even knew he was up there, I only ever noticed the spat.

@@awfulolaf It doesn't matter. Even if there's pictures on the site, the actual rule is "If it exists there is porn of it" and Concord NO LONGER EXISTS.

Before it launched SONY thought everyone would 'follow the crowd' to play it. Now they say 'Don't follow the crowd'. They think for some reason the majority of gamers have become the minority. They can enjoy it. Cost me nothing.
You know what's the worst part? Before financing Concord back in 2016, Sony turned down an Infamous/Prototype crossover cause they thought they could create a new Star Wars type of game. ;-;
The diversity was no doubt a contributing factor to the toxic positivity as well. There's absolutely no way anyone wanting to improve the designs would voice their opinion when they know that any criticism will be interpreted as a political attack.
My favorite part of the story is how the Concord team was saying “we did it” and “we’re so proud” only to have their game crash and burn almost immediately. “You get what you f*cking deserve”
Boycott ac shadows, Concord, sw outlaws, dragon age 4 veil guard, and upcoming ghost of yotei ONLY if the game is woke. The main character is a woman. Nothing against women, but so far is seems like a shadows without yasuke. We will see. Remember, it's Sony. So yotei is done by Concord and Ps5 pro guys kinda.
Sequels are a problem in the industry as well, though. People are just begging for sequels at this point, and it's because new IP suck, but that doesn't mean they have to. How about we ask for some new IPs that aren't political bullshit?
This game showed us exactly how large the "modern audience" actually is. Even when given free access to the beta, only 1.2k players turned out. And in terms of paying customers it was even worse. That was the return on a $400million investment.

Well yeah :P Because even if you're a black trans person that likes inclusion, what matters more if you're a gamer is the gameplay. If you tell me 'It is battlefield 2 but a lot more dull, but you can be a dumpy robot', I don't care about having a character that looks like me.
@@edgaraf9411 Did you really mentioned Overwatch as something positive? Cyberpunk have some small influences here and there (after all, transhumanism, it's the core of the genre) and BG3 have "pansexual" characters to a point of zoophilia. I honestly don't think "inclusion" is necessarily a bad thing, it becomes a bad thing when it's either forced in a unnatural way (like Venture in Overwatch, maybe the most hideous design in the whole game. Tracer and Soldier were gay all along, etc) or when they use established names to send "messages" like Suicide Squad, Dragon Age and so on. If it's something brand new, a creation of their own like Life is Strange or Dustborne, ok, that's fine
The funny thing is they wasted 4 years of their life and when they're looking for a job They either say they worked on concord or say they didn't work for 4 years
Make no mistake the reason Sony is offering full refunds and yoinking the digital download from peoples play stations isn’t out of a sense of shame, or concern for the customer. It’s because they didn’t realize until it was to late how much of a money sink this game was going to be and now their only hope of making even a fraction of the money they put into it is to make next to zero profit and claim a tax write off.
That's what's really damning for Sony and the developers about all of this, though. Almost everyone in the gaming community knew of Concord thanks to all of the marketing and spotlights Sony gave it... and it still only maxed out at 700 concurrent players at its peak. This wasn't some indie game nobody's ever heard of with a shoestring budget; this was a major "AAA" release which cost anywhere from 100 to 400 million U.S. dollars to make. There has never been a failure of this magnitude in the entire history of the industry. Books should be written and college classes should be structured examining everything surrounding this game, from conception to death, so that future generations of gamers and developers can look at it and think "Wow, at least at I didn't screw up THAT bad!"

Okay, I am going to reveal something crazy about _CONCORD._ _CONCORD_ had a Campaign, but it was cancelled because Firewalk Studios "failed to find the fun". This also happened with PROJECT TITAN. PROJECT TITAN was a Superhero PvE MMO where you had an ordinary job by day and fought crime at night. Sounds cool, right? Well the devs spent a ton of money on it and then told management that they "failed to find the fun", so they were told to salvage something from its carcass so the cost of its development wasn't a complete waste, and they took some of the characters and added a couple more, and scaled back to a taut Arena, not the big city they had as they didn't think they would have the server population for their MMO, but because there was no city there was no crime to fight, so this meant it had to go from PvE to PvP, and then as all the characters were different they had to ensure it was balanced regardless of who you picked so they worked on that, although it was a bit weird as your team of unique characters wasn't unique, as you could have two of the same in a game as the same character could be on the enemy team, and then they realised that they needed new lore so you cared about the characters as there wasn't this city you were trying to protect anymore, and to tell this lore they had to find even more money to make high quality cut-scenes about all characters and make them charming and funny so players would like playing these Superheros in this PvP Arena shooter, and so after $133 million (not including marketing), and nine years of development time, PROJECT TITAN turned into _OVERWATCH._ We will find out that the same thing happened to PROJECT CHAOS which was an interstellar MMO PvE shooter where a group of Mercenaries take on a variety of contracts for what are procedurally generated missions set on various exotic locations within its galaxy, some planets, some moons and some space stations. These missions varied in length from quick smash & grab thefts, to hostage extractions, and extermination of laboratory leaks (which got cut during the pandemic for obvious reasons), to escorting diplomats through dangerous regions of space whilst defending them from pirates who could board your ship (which was another location you could fight in), all of which had elimination rules so every character had one life during the mission and it was essential to bring a healer with your team and a tank to focus enemy fire on a resistant team mate. This was also where the idea of changing the map with walls came from, however it also had the ability to place teleports which could be used by either side Also the reason why there was a Galactic Map in _CONCORD_ was because you used it to choose where to fly the Northstar to, like _STARFIELD,_ where you have Hyperspace routes you have to follow so it becomes something of a network. However, unlike _STARFIELD_ you didn't land anywhere and walk around bored out of your mind, but auto land at where the mission had contracted you to arrive, although some planets had more than one landing location for the dropship animation to deploy you and your team mates. Sony executives thought this could compete with _Destiny_ and _OVERWATCH_ and that it had transmedia potential with them making tentative plans for a movie from Columbia Pictures, as well as a deal with AMAZON to include their characters within a standalone episode of their new mini-series _Secret Level._ This is why management thought they had the next _Guardians of the Galaxy_ or _Star Wars._ The money being spent on the IP was excused because it was seen as an investment in a PvE MMO which would have a lifetime of 10 years, and at minimum a trilogy of sci-fi movies and a potential for a spin-off TV series on AMAZON if it proved to be a success. One upper management person who has since been fired suggested that in terms of how much revenue it would make them it could be their next _Spider-Man._ The reasons it failed were that almost every good idea got cut along with the scope reduction from PvE MMO to PvP Arena shooter, the initial character designs by the Bungie artists were deemed to "embody the male gaze" by the team lead who insisted that everyone call them "The Professor" even though they had no such academic qualification. An infestation by HR led to an atmosphere of "toxic positivity" which prevented internal criticism improving the game for the gamer at the cost of hurting some staff's abnormally sensitive feelings. There were many sick days as some of them were taking substantial time off to undergo surgical transition and then not returning as expected from that surgery as there had been some bad complications which needed correction with additional surgeries. In one instance one of these individuals who was away on sick leave for this reason was the only person who knew Erlang, which meant the code for the multiplayer servers could not be changed as it was written in the same telecommunications language that _Call of Duty_ uses. The artstyle for the characters was reworked twice during its eight years in development, and as the original artist left due to the poor management making it apparent that the game was doomed years out from its release, those far less talented hangers on wanted to make a contribution and change what didn't need changing, such as the character models, and this is why they all ended up punchably smug. The pronoun thing would be tolerable if you didn't feel it in your bones that 80% of the characters ought to be villains, not heroes, and personality aside the appearance and silhouettes of the characters in _Dustborn_ actually ended up less repulsive and ambiguous. Finally, it didn't help that Bungie were involved as most of their real talent had left years earlier because they detested Jason Jones' sole interest in making money. They did a very good job of the "gun feel" and ensured the dynamical space of possibilities which were constrained by _CONCORD's_ orthogonal game mechanics (which were somewhat similar to _Halo 3_ in terms of its deployable traps), did mean that aside from all the "politics" and "LGBTQ+" stuff (which a Firewalk marketing employee unilaterally decided to make the two top tags for the game on Steam), it was a fun Arena shooter - even if it was very derivative of the original and sadly no longer available _OVERWATCH._ This was because the original _Halo_ (later renamed _Halo: Combat Evolved_ by Microsoft when they bought Bungie) took eight years to develop as they initially planned it to be a top-down RTS and then a 3rd Person Squad Shooter and then because of the difficulty in getting the chase cam to work inside installations, even though they tried making the ceiling higher as if the Forerunners were really tall, they still had an annoying clipping issue, so they tried putting the camera inside the helmet of the primary member of the Squad, and that is where the character of the Master Chief came from (camera issues). All of these abortive attempts to make it other genres persisted into the eventual game, with even some semblance of an RPG mechanic in evidence on the _Assault on the Control Room_ level, as you can have a UNSC Marine ride in the passenger seat of the Warthog you are driving who has a Sniper rifle, and if they survive you will see that they become more proficient over the course of the level, so it adds an extra tactical dimension to the gameplay so that you try to keep your Marines alive so that they become better shots who can really help you out later on. Consequently, this huge success off a project which had run for eight years, and the similar breaking of multiple final deadlines that _Destiny_ went through, when it was initially a sword and sorcery 3rd person action adventure set in a shared online world, with dungeons which had bosses similar to _Dark Souls_ and in which you had the ability to camp anywhere in the wilderness and go to sleep in your multicoloured Medieval style tent protected whilst you slept by your pet Siberian tiger, well that PROJECT TIGER got fully developed and then upper management got cold feet about it and ended up switching focus back to what most of the staff didn't want to be doing yet again, which was an FPS. And vestiges of the spells and 3rd person attacks are in evidence in the Supercharged abilities which are showcased in the far future post-apocalyptic sci-fi game which underwent this complete identity crisis mid development and cost the same studio as PROJECT TITAN a ton of money. This culture of tolerating extreme financial profligacy, and changes of genre mid development (which is HUGELY EXPENSIVE), has meant that ACTIVISION BLIZZARD KING infected those who worked on PROJECT TITAN and PROJECT TIGER and indirectly, through the Bungie connection: PROJECT CHAOS. You only have to see the ViDoc that Bungie put out to see that their staff are all about pandering to people's preferred pronouns and wearing prominent Trans Flag pins. The core talent of Jaime Griesemer and his repeated cycle of "30 seconds of fun" have long since left. Joseph Staten left _Destiny_ after they scrapped his linear story because Jason Jones thought he could make more money out of breaking it up into boss battles in dungeons similar to _Diablo III_ and then put aggressive Microtransactions into it through the Eververse, and deal with Mark Noseworthy dumbing down the gameplay in an attempt to appeal to a broader market of Free2Play gamers. All of which I purposely mention as I have severe doubts about Bungie's _MARATHON_ being any better than _CONCORD._
Instead of investing $400 million in a woke Guardians of the Galaxy knockoff hero shooter, Sony could have created multiple smaller games with the financial potential of Astro Bot. I’m glad the game flopped. DEI kills art indeed.
the price is likely higher since they bought the studio too... Just imagine that amount could've been bloodborne remake for pc or even socom... or even any other IP they had... And it would definitely sell great, yet we get Concord.
With the irony being that Astro Bot launched on the day Concord was shut down! The most frustrating part of Concord is that shareholders and CEOs are going to learn the exact opposite lessons from this that they should. Concord is a brand new IP, by a team with no experience working together prior, releasing with decent marketing and a big budget. What Concord primarily failed in, was a mixture of incredibly poor direction, a lacking identity, bad inspirations, and last but not least, ugly and uninspired characters. The people with the money behind all this will read this as a failure in creating a new IP. Prepare for their next attempt to keyjangle marvel or star wars or something else they can get a safe paycheck from through the whales.

To be fair, I have met human beings from whom I was able to detect no personality after ten minutes.
There is something to be said about *adding* to a character after their surface level personality is established (Which is what they "probably" meant by that 10 minute statement.) Of course, such only matters if people are interested enough to you know....*stick around and find out.*
Obviously, they failed to follow through.

Successful Chinese video game: lol, monke.
Honestly, it's not (just) the woke stuff injected into videogames. It's also the anti consumer practices, the worker unfriendly environments, the general triple & quadruple A slop, the gaslighting. The fallout surrounding the fails of big companies is of their own making and more entertaining then most of their releases.
I long for a day when DRM-free is the norm and client-side-anticheats are just in PvP games again. A day where content creators will call out such stuff the same they do with wokery now, instead of never even mentioning it.
Oh how I long for that magical time that will never come.
The scary part is that if the games were actually good and fun to play their agenda would be more easily accepted by the players. We're lucky they suck at this.
@@RafaelSantos-pi8py if we are to face evil, it is better for it to be braindead and disconnected. Else they may very well succeed.
@@RafaelSantos-pi8py Yep, it was bound to happen when education went from valuing merit and hard work to ideological conformity and activism.

Yes, they, were all in the same car 😔
I got a simple rule. If they tell me it's not made for me or to just not buy it, then I take them at their word and just don't buy it or care about the thing anymore. If it succeeds, nice. Good job. If it fails, I'll maybe watch a video or two about why it failed. I got like a thousand other games, anime, movies, books, and other stuff that I can watch/read/play that I don't really want to deal with things that weren't made for me.
Okay, I am going to reveal something crazy about _CONCORD._
_CONCORD_ had a Campaign, but it was cancelled because Firewalk Studios "failed to find the fun". This also happened with PROJECT TITAN.
PROJECT TITAN was a Superhero PvE MMO where you had an ordinary job by day and fought crime at night. Sounds cool, right? Well the devs spent a ton of money on it and then told management that they "failed to find the fun", so they were told to salvage something from its carcass so the cost of its development wasn't a complete waste, and they took some of the characters and added a couple more, and scaled back to a taut Arena, not the big city they had as they didn't think they would have the server population for their MMO, but because there was no city there was no crime to fight, so this meant it had to go from PvE to PvP, and then as all the characters were different they had to ensure it was balanced regardless of who you picked so they worked on that, although it was a bit weird as your team of unique characters wasn't unique, as you could have two of the same in a game as the same character could be on the enemy team, and then they realised that they needed new lore so you cared about the characters as there wasn't this city you were trying to protect anymore, and to tell this lore they had to find even more money to make high quality cut-scenes about all characters and make them charming and funny so players would like playing these Superheros in this PvP Arena shooter, and so after $133 million (not including marketing), and nine years of development time, PROJECT TITAN turned into _OVERWATCH._
We will find out that the same thing happened to PROJECT CHAOS which was an interstellar MMO PvE shooter where a group of Mercenaries take on a variety of contracts for what are procedurally generated missions set on various exotic locations within its galaxy, some planets, some moons and some space stations. This was also where the idea of changing the map with walls came from, however it also had the ability to place teleports which could be used by either side
Also the reason why there was a Galactic Map in _CONCORD_ was because you used it to choose where to fly the Northstar to, like _STARFIELD,_ where you have Hyperspace routes you have to follow so it becomes something of a network.
One upper management person who has since been fired suggested that in terms of how much revenue it would make them it could be their next _Spider-Man._
The reasons it failed were that almost every good idea got cut along with the scope reduction from PvE MMO to PvP Arena shooter, the initial character designs by the Bungie artists were deemed to "embody the male gaze" by the team lead who insisted that everyone call them "The Professor" even though they had no such academic qualification.
How long did you spend typing this?
Pretty good read
Wew. So, it was the usual: The "woke" are too incompetent at management and end up driving away the talent.
$400M was not enough money lost.
That is a disturbingly complete three examples of this happening in a single short essay.
Look, Astro Bot sadly doesn't have any accessibility features for the blind, but the let's plays and stuff have actually made my time enjoyable so much so I may actually get a sighted person to help me play through some of it, plus, I'd really like to get the soundtrack for that thing, it's awesome.

I think they've forgotten they aren't entitled to our money, but are supposed to convince us that the product is worth the money we would spend.
It's not about money to the activist types. They're happy to fly a company into the ground if it means forcing their ideology on unwilling people.
@@jackrogers5712 The problem is that 'money' is a proxy for 'people playing the game.' And if they don't play the game, you can't use the game to subject them to your ideology.

It still blows my mind that Sony thought this was going to be successful. They're so disconnected it's hilarious. 😂
It's hard to see the little people from their ivory tower
How can they not just grab some people off the street and talk to them.
Remember
Sony bought Bungie thinking they would get the rights to Halo.
Despite Microsoft and 343i (they still suck) owns Halo and Bungie had nothing to do with Halo for over a decade.
That showed how disconnected Sony actually is, which forced them to invest in Destiny 2 and failed
So pretentious 😂
I saw concord once and it was a interesting as watching a piece of meat decompose in real time on a table made of pure marble
A prototype sequel wouldve been better than Concord even if it sucked. 400mil on what? 😂🎉
Ultimately the devs have offered a poor product that no one wanted to buy or use. That's called the free market and no amount of moaning or complaining that rhe customers are wrong will change that fact
How could someone blame the majority of the consumers? If the majority didn't buy it, they should realize they are in the wrong and should take accountability.

ET was made in 5 months by a solo dev to meet the Christmas rush. ET sold over a million copies. The leadership produced more copies of ET than there were Atari consoles, in their infinite retardation.
I'm willing to bet ET sold more copies, and I don't think Atari ever had to give back the money they got for it either.
The mistake is thinking concord is a one and done. E3 2013. Microsoft and Sony both had consoles that were DRM, digital game only nightmares. Microsoft unveiled first. Games revolted. Sony backpedalled. Playstation 4 won that generation. Current gen consoles, disc drives are being taken away. Look at the PS5 Pro.
Sony says concord was the future of Playstation. When people tell you who they are, listen. They will find other ways to ram this content down your throat until you accept it.
Be fair gundum, everyone who worked on the game did their best. They put all their creativity and talent into this game.
Concord reminds me alot of the 2016 election: The State told us so much that the Progressive Product was the superior product and was going to win massively. But instead the opposite happened, where it FAILED massively, and The State was in such disbelief that (to this day) it cannot except that the product it was offering was of very poor quality, and so it can only blame the consumers for not choosing their inferior product.
True. Dem here. I feel like the same thing is happening again in 2024, like a freaky time loop. I wonder if we'll get a 2020 version along with the visit save gaming. 😂
Stop making games for people that don't play games. Stop making movies for people that don't buy movie tickets. They are too busy blocking intersections, throwing paint on art, and finding ways to make themselves unemployable.
