Trust me not to read the description...WHAT...10 metres per second??? That's mad!! Wonder how the rapid difference in air pressure would affect people in a high rise!
I suppose any speed is safe when you're in a box, my comment really relates to air pressure of rising and decending so quickly, maybe it's fine I don't know. I remember watching a film on this subject. Otis were saying that they can make lifts go at whatever speed was neccessary, but it all depends on the effects of the human body.
A few years ago Harrods upped the speed of their main lifts from 2 m/s to 3m/s, but the glass doors passing at that speed make people feel sick, so they had to remove the glass from the inner doors.
Funtime Freddy According to Otis its 8 m/s in the down direction. But anyways the the first lift that exceeded the speed of 8m/s was the Sears Tower in 1971 if I am not wrong. The first lift to reach 10m/s was built in 1978 by Mitsubishi at The Sunshine 60 Building in Tokyo, with the shaft travel distance at about 232 meters. The world's fastest lifts currently can be found at the Shanghai Tower. They were manufactured by Mitsubishi and completed in 2016. The lifts travel at a speed of 18m/s. The next fastest lift in the World would be manufactured by Hitachi at a speed of 20m/s. *Twice* as fast as these lifts.
I remember when Kone was regarded as one of the worst brands. Now it's one of the best :-) I wish it had windows inside so you could see the shaft whizzing by!
It's too bad they got rid off the Toshiba fixtures, but it's still looks quite nice with the KSS buttons and the InfoScreen LCD. I prefer the old interior back when Hissen12 filmed (when it still had the Toshiba fixtures and chimes).
From 6:21 to 7:07 - the 300m trip.. These elevators move pretty fast! I saw a video a while back about the elevators in this mine, and I was wondering if they ever let outsiders in to ride them!
If this was a Japanese elevator it would be whisper-quiet. They say that the ropes should last at least twice as long as conventional steel ropes. I could see them lasting even longer.
Good evening. I am writing from Japan. What happened to the Toshiba/Kone double-deck elevator that used to be here...? The elevator at my workplace, the Toshiba double-deck elevator in the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower in Tokyo, Japan, travels at a speed of 6 meters per second, so 10 meters per second is incredibly fast... I am amazed by the overwhelming technological prowess of Kone.
I remember riding an Otis Series M2 Skyrise on July 11th this year, and holy crap. It was so fast, my ears were popping SO hard and bad that I almost couldn’t even hear the super loud motor. This must be worse lmao.
Relatively slower acceleration to compensate for the pressure changes with regards to the inner ear, I believe that the maximum recommended speed is 8m/s.
The reason why the acceleration is slow is becouse the lift is double deck so it weight more, If the lift is not double deck, the acceleration will be faster than it use to be.
That thing is in a mine? How and why?! It’s so beautiful that it should be in a mall or skyscraper somewhere. Thing probably cost 10x more than a regular elevator just from the aesthetics alone, not to mention those ropes, the depth, and the speed it travels...
It is Kone R&D center. They test new elevators and parts there constantly, including the carbon fiber robes. It's not open to public, while it is possible to get tours there.
3:06 If he puts the sound recorder on the floor, vibrations will ruin the audio. It would have been better if he had put it on a tripod wich is on some pillows or something soft to reduce the vibrations.
What is the floor indicator showing? It surely isn't meters... but it isn't floors either as 300 meters is roughly 985 feet... at the common 12 ft/floor, there would be approx. 80 floors.
Correct, Kone always has high quality standards using carbon fiber ropes instead of steel ropes for ultra-high rise applications because carbon fiber ropes are much more stronger and lighter than conventional steel ropes to with stand the stress of the heavily loaded elevator car and so called "KONE UltraRope".
Depends on the lift's speed. The door can be fast or slow if you insist. But if someone is entering the lift while these fast doors are closing, this might be DANGEROUS! Press the door open button before it's too late.
Lol no, terminal velocity is around 53 m/s. 9.8 m/s^2 is a measure of acceleration. In this case, the lift is only accelerating at a speed of 1 m/s^2, far from the “free falling speed”.
Dont really understand the purpose of it? I only can think of one reason to have a doubledecker, and that is if the building is secured, and 2 persons with different access credentials want to ride the elevator, and you want to separate the people so not somebody can exit at a location they are not authorized to enter - without requiring 2 separate elevator rides. But then you would need a destination dispatch system then, where you scan your access badge and enter floor, and the other person do that too - and then it must decide if one of them have access to a floor the other one hasnt, AND that floor is selected.
Now that was some experience. Liked the shots of the lift car at the start so you can see how fast.

mrmattandmrchay the fastest a elevator could possibly go is 25 meters per second due to air pressure

Nice to see video of the place! I remember them talking about testing the carbon fiber robes there years ago for Kingdom Tower.
I rode a Schindler elevator in NYC one time, and it felt like i was off my feet. THAT must be insane
im guessing it was the marriott marquis
Has to be at the top of of one of the most awesome elevators you have gotten to ride
1:32 That pre-door is wild! These elevators look actually epic, not gonna lie.
This is the best elevator and best ride ever!

Hungry Guy I used to be SOO scared to ride Kone brand elevators. Now I LOVE them
Indeed!
Hungry Guy ELEVATOR PEOPLE
How long back is this? Just curious.
+Hungry Guy: Even so, only in the US. The UK, thanks to Beno, regarded EcoDiscs as one of the best elevator types.
The lift went so fast

douro20 not.
If it would be japanese it would already have freefalled
Thanks for video. I’ve been two times in Kone factory in Hyvinkää, but not in Tytyri.
Orma?
Woild love to see the machine room!

Model is MiniSpace MX100, the model used on their extreme high speed lifts and double deck lifts.
Kone staff seem so welcoming and kind hearted. Defiantly will have to visit this test tower at some point. Like how do Kone make such beautiful lifts?
They are a great company.
Ibe always like kone but theyre not too common where I live
Thats actually really cool that they decorated their facility like an underground cave

This is beautiful buttons are Nice and elevators fast
kOnE best eLeVaToR👍
It was amazing
Is it possible to visit this test tower?
I like these elevators a lot
As i'm petrified of elevators, this would absolutely kill me. Lol.
I used to be as a kid, but once you understand how many safety systems there are, it becomes a lot easier.
This is sick!
Beauty cabinet of lift.
Wow speed and nice pre door
36km/hour. That's very fast for an elevator. It is faster than my car's travel to work during busy hours.
It has been tested 17m/s witch is 60km/h. Uncontrollable speed 21m/s.
That has gotta be a major head rush in that elevator. I get them in regular elevators sometimes.
240 Volts What does that mean?
PPSHY when you feel like all your blood is coming toward your head? :D
This is AWESOME!!!
My god, i got goosebumps just by hearing sound.
some office buildings have double deck elevators.
Awesome! I wish it was glass though.
It actually wouldn’t be worth making it glass. Well maybe glass doors. Hmmm
Smooth ride there
Imagine if the whole cab was glass. The sides, front, back, roof, floor, doors. You could see the shaft whizzing by like lightning.
Yeah that is cool BUT then the cab will be not strong to hold the speed
Very impressive. thank you 🍒
beno needs to surf this NOW!
This would definitely leave your stomach behind.
Wow super fast and so smooth. How do they handle vibrations? Despite the speed it seems reasonbly quite.
+dykodesigns2yt it was very smooth

How fast do these elevators go ?
9 meters per second

This looks somewhat familiar - Is that the same equipment and rope technology they were using for the Auckland Tower elevator modernization project?
What is the background music of this video?

why? 10 m/s is the limit.

Imagine there are 350 basement floors in this building :O
It’s actually 350 meters deep, which is equivalent to 116 floors.
22mph? Insane
So this elevator 10mts pers is faster than the Burj Khalifa Otis elevator which runs at 7mts per sec
Burj khalifa runs at 10 m/s as well.
Classic leveling! Seemed to be slow at leveling, though.
This is semi intelligent but with pre doors it basically stops in a controlled way
So, no more Kone/Toshiba ? I think this is where these were before...
Yep these are new. They change it out on a regular basis.
DieselDucy I like OTIS & KONE

yes
Is this test tower built underground ? It looks so cavernous
Yes, it goes 350 meters deep underground.
