Water just gets slimy on fondant and tends to drip leaving a mess - while alcohol will eat a way a little of the fondant so the pigment can "soak" in then evaporate leaving the pigment behind without being too wet - clear vanilla, almond extract or cheap vodka are my go to for this.

Can do water color on buttercream?
When you want ti freeze cake before decorating, when would use the simple syrup on it. Before you freeze or when you decorate?
one it's thawed and leveled but before you frost
Her videos are soo informative! I always wondered why my white chocolate ganache never turned out!

awesome tutorial! you have a new sub!

hello i use a fine sand paper if colour gets on fondant and sand it away
nice tip!
What happens with the dowel Rods when you cut the cake? Do you hit them? Or give Someone a piece with a wooden rod in it?
I cut my cake from the top layer down so when the top layer is all gone you just pull the dowel rods out before you cut into the next layer
Can you use lemon extract instead of alcohol?
So far I have only tried with almond extract but lemon should have a similar effect
very nice ☺👍⚘
thank you so much!
Wat can we use instead of alcohol
nothing. I use vodka cause it's cheap aond you don't have to worry about allergies - but you can also use almond extract (which is also alcohol and be careful of people with nut allergies)
I loathe covering cakes in fondant. Lol. But I found adding crisco to the fondant stops the tearing and elephant skin. Your cake is so pretty. Love the watercolour painting. Wish I had the nerve to do it 😊 I would love to see different ways to do a bark/tree effect on fondant. Have a. Great day. Xx
good quality fondant doesn't have that problem - I use satin ice and love it - I don't buy cheap fondant that causes issues like elephant skin or ripples
I use Fondtastic over here in Australia. Our weather where we live is like 51oC in summer, which is now. Horrible weather for caking.
oh MAN that's HOT!!!! seriously insanely hot! I thought I had it bad last summer when my air conditioner broke and it was 105F (so like 40C) and my ganache was melting while filming with my hot lights and oven on... but not even close to 51c!

Can you make a brush embroidery design on a buttercream cake?
yes you can, I personallydon't have a tutorial on this but there are several others on you tube
I enjoyed your tutorial. Would it be possible to hand paint on a cake iced in buttercream? If so, do you offer tutorials on this? Thx
yes you can, I do not have a tutorial on it yet but I will add it to my list
Have you ever frozen a cake that you've done this technique on? I'm wanting to use it for a cake, but the client is taking it to another state, so I need to freeze it. I'm worried the design will be a mess with condensation.
I don't freeze a cake after it has fondant on it - if you do as the cake thaws it will condense and the water will run down the fondant and ruin the fondant and the paint
Can i paint on buttercream?
yes you can! just use a buttercream that develops a great crust - you need that crust to paint on. when the buttercream is wet the brush just gets stuck in the buttercream and it becomes a huge mess
I love your videos but my dad said it was OK but l love all your Videos
+Mary Susan Gibbs I'm so glad you enjoyed it! and it's okay that you dad just thinks it's okay, not everyone is cake obsessed 😬
Cake is very pretty. However, when you're charging a customer, they do not care if covering a double barrel cake is hard. I would not deliver a cake with a massive flaw like that. Instead, take some fondant and mix it with water to make a paste. Then you glue the seams together as much as you can, and rub the paste in until it creates a seamless cake. I can't imagine a customer being okay with that massive seam, regardless of whether it is on the back of the cake. People pay great money for 2 tiers, I would be upset if my cake arrived that way.
I have started over before to ensure a paying customer recieves a cake that is worth their money.
Ok thank you for the tip! I'm glad you are so committed to your customers :)
