  • This is the second part of a four part presentation of Dr. Stephen Hicks' book, Nietzsche and the Nazis. The focus in this part is on the actions of the Nazi Party once they came to power in 1933.
Adolf Hitler and the Nazis claimed that the 19th century German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche(1844-1900), was one of their inspirations. Were they right to do so?
This video investigates the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche as well as the political ideas of the Nazi Party. To what extent did Nietzsche's philosophy provide a foundation for the horrors perpetrated by the Nazis?

Dr. Hicks is an excellent source for this matter.

Why is Wikipedia weighing in with “context”? I trust Dr. Hicks far more than them.

Professor Hicks, I am a fan of both Peter Boghossian and Helen Pluckrose, but I was somewhat surprised today to hear them both defend Rawls, whereas both Conservative James Orr and yourself agreed in your criticism of Rawls in your Triggernometry debate several months ago, I would like to request any future videos dealing with this general subject area, thanks.

I think this was more or less a video on the Nazis? I've seen the 'Nietzsche and the Nazis' video elsewhere and I want to say it was more about Nietzsche, the similarities vs the differences. Course its been years.. and perhaps there are more parts that haven't been released. Anyways, thanks for the vid, I've heard most of this but it was a good refresher who isn't constantly thinking about their ideology or philosophy heh.

Yes, the book goes more into Nietzsche's impact on the nazis far more than this short documentary. Some might say Nietzsche wouldn't have approved of the nazis, but they certainly approved of him and his worst ideas. I've read the book and its fascinating how distinct the German Counter-Enlightenment with its collectivist edge is to the English Enlightenment and its notions of individual liberty. In reality there is probably a lot more nuance in those distinctions, but I found it valuable to see it in high contrast, because it makes so much more sense in answering the question of why and how the nazis could emerge in a high culture like Germany.

The female voice was integral in the growth of National Socialism. There's a book which should be written.
