Hi Noah. Thanks for the great show. I know I said this before but I really love seeing the nice relationships w your friends and Dad. I used to live in Niagara Wheatfield (moved when I was 14 in 1984)....loved the gorge/devils hole. I was a fishing addict like u guys. I don't know if your Dad remembers but somewhere around 1983 or 84...the salmon runs were like something I've only seen in Alaska. Like, it's not a fish-story. If u looked out over the water there were multiple fish in the air and endless backs porpoising out of the water anywhere u looked. But since then I watched the runs get less. Does anyone remember that? And on other shows I've seen, it seems as though the average size is getting smaller? Still some great ones, but on average? I even checked w the army Corp of engineers and they said something genetically was happening causing that. I just figured I'd ask your thoughts. And this isn't a fish story either.... I caught a 44" king that was almost right at 40 lbs. The mouth opened 11 1/2 inches... Tail spread was near the same. Biggest one I've ever caught or seen there. And I had a real hard time getting them to bite and one year me and my 2 friends used 'hot-n-tots' by "storm lures"..... And all of a sudden the fish were nailing them. It must b the super erratic action and deep dive that was probably bouncing off the rocks in their faces and made them aggressive. Nothing ever provoked strikes like those lures. I didn't know if u ever tried those. Sorry for the long message. I got excited when I saw the show today and a lot of memories came back. Thank u guys again for a great channel w nice people. Have a great day!
Wow that's very interesting, I wish I could expand on that but me and my dad both started fishing here 5 years ago, so can really compare the fishing now and back then. 40+ inch salmon is definitely the fish of a lifetime I couldn't imagine how good the fishing was back then... Definitely could be from a lot of factors pollution, stocking programs, or your guess is as good as mine!
