I recently got a couple tattoos: a lily with vertical geometric/small lines instead of the bottom half of the stem, between my boobs (so on the sternum). Everyone asked why a lily. The reason? I just think they look nice. the second was inspired by wandavision for the style but was a tattoo idea i had in mind before (I just didn't know what would inspire the style): it's a heart in the middle, one hand above and one under that don't touch it. it's levitating between the hands and red lines are intertwined. Again, everyone asked why this why that and again, I just like the design. I also have a giraffe with flowers around it just bc I liked the idea, loved the artist's drawing. I have 2 meaningful tattoos: one that was drawn by my best friend and I got it tattooed on the day I learnt she had passed from Ewing's sarcoma (cancer); one that I have with my sibling. I do want more tattoos though! I remember when I saw you had gotten your first tattoo and I remember being so happy for you! Also, I dye my hair on impulse bc it's hair, it grows, you can redye it to a natural colour if needed and it's fun. The other day, my best friend's mom told me that my hair looks really nice - chemo discoloured it from almost black to a weird mix of blond cendré/blonde/grey/grey-brown with now black roots since I'm finally off chemo - and it looked better than my red hair (not ginger, really red) and I just said that yes, it looks nice but I won't be able to get it done the same way. I got it because of the meaning behind it, and I thought I would always feel happy with the meaning behind it, but shortly after getting it, things changed, and I realized a tattoo's meaning could compile as time goes on. The tattoo was supposed to be for my younger siblings and my church. The tattoo itself is a tree and a circle from a church camp. The church group from that church was run by a friend named Joe, my high school boyfriend's dad. After I got it, that church kicked me out for living my life how I wanted, my boyfriend and I broke up, my siblings and I have had issues throughout the years, and worst of all, Joe/my ex’s dad, passed away. I don’t regret my tattoo but the meaning behind it changed, and more things got added to it. I’ll never forget Joe or the relationship I had with my siblings at that time, but I’ll also never forget how the church treated me or the experience I had with my ex.

I think tattoos reflect how people approach life, and them having meaning or no meaning depends on who you are. Its not bad if they do and not bad if they don't, for me my tattoos do have meaning. I'm conscious of space I have for tattoos, and while some tattoos the meaning is more something that I can't explain or changes over the years I don't regret them. Only thing I regret with any is back when I was new to getting tattoos was the specific design of things I got, or who I went to as first artist while recommended by good friends badly fucked it up. My second tattoo I just want to adjust the design of it, the rest can't say I have regrets really apart from I would have liked to use my own cat instead of a random one for my tattoo representing my grandma (it's a kitten with a pink bow looking like its about to whack someone, because she's cute and sweet but don't mess with her family and she LOVES pink while I hate it). I have a bunch of tattoos that probably look really random, like I have a hammer on my arm. A legit hammer that my tattoo artist photocopied to get the stencil (this was 10years ago), meaning behind it being a few things, one of my nicknames is hammer because I'm as subtle as a sledge hammer, I like hammers as a tool, and love DIY. I still LOVE my hammer. So for me they have meaning, if that meaning is that you just like the design and really wanted to see it on your skin everyday well thats a damn good meaning behind it. My first tattoo is a scarlet kingsnake, artist fucked it up and it's been fixed as best as it can be, but I got it at 18. I remember seeing a documentary program on snakes years earlier about coral snakes and scarlet kingsnakes, it stuck with me that many scarlet kingsnakes were killed because people assumed they were the venomous coral snake. So my first tattoo represents my love of snakes (despite living in a country that has none and having never had a chance to touch one), and to me literally means don't judge. Judging someone based off what you think you see can effect them to the point they could lose their life, and just because you think you know doesn't mean you do. As someone wrongly judged my entire life because of how I looked (reasons that have changed as I've gotten older), its a meaning I won't grow out of, and it reminds me to have strength and be kind because you never know what someone is going through. I also have a chameleon on my arm, mostly because I fucking think they are great and I love lizards (though we don't have chameleons here either lol). But I love chameleons because as a kid I wanted to be able to blend in like they could, thats where my love of them started. Is that why I got it, no, I got it because I wanted it and really love chameleons but I did think about it for years as I didn't know where I wanted to put it initially. My hair, well I do what I want. I'll try anything once, drastic haircuts take more for me to do as I don't want to hate my hair while it grows out. Colours I'll do whatever I want, though if I'm trying a new colour I do like to have a day after dying at home in case I hate it and want to dye over it 😂, but I also do my hair myself cut and colour. I'd rather I fuck it up than pay someone else too, and I had to fix every hair cut I paid for as an adult because it wasn't what I asked for or was done badly. I always tell every older lady that says they wish they were brave enough to dye their hair when they were young that its never too late and they should do it now. I like the skin I'm in now I have tattoos, I don't look like me with natural hair colour and definitely don't feel like me, my face with my piercings is just my face and would look weird without them. And I'm the only one in my family with lots of ink, piercings, and bright hair. I didn't know anyone like me when I started either, your look suits you. I was lucky my mums attitude has always been just let her know before I do something, she helped me dye my hair as a teenager and still does sometimes now. She was never the type of mum to tell me not to do something, hair was never a major as it grows back, tattoos she trusted me to know what I was doing and will actually offer design ideas these days.
i have 8 tattoos (at 20 years old) and most of them have no meaning. like literally one is a sunny side up egg. most of the time i just find cool artists and get their flash tattooed because it looks cool as hell. i just get cool art that speaks to me and i have not regretted a single one.

Because I’m no longer attached to the religion I grew up in. Other ones that were something I just like the look of and have a loose reason why I still love. Most of my tattoos have "meaning", they're family related. I have one relating to my major/profession/hobby, and I have another that is inspiration. They're all nice, I love them. Although the placements should have had more thought on them. I have one tattoo that was impulsive but its cool so yolo. Maybe at a conscious level there is no meaning but I think (is only my opinion) that there is a reason (an unconscious one) that you liked and choose those images. Mine kinda have a meaning, but it's very personal and not something I explain to anyone. My first one is just a tribal I've designed myself when I was 16 ish and got it when I was 18/19. I just wanted to be sure, I'd like it still. There is literally no meaning but it being my first tattoo 😂 My second one is on my back and probably has the most meaning, but also very personal about my family. The last one is a Moai from the Easter island, pointing to my roots. I'm half Chilean half Swiss living in Switzerland and this is me making a connection to the other half of my roots. Also it looks badass and I think its awesome👌😂 but not every tattoo needs to have some special meaning. Sometimes it just looks really cool and awesome on a person 👍🏼 my brother is almost covered from neck to toes and has like 3 with meaning, including his back piece

I’ve got 64 tattoos and only 3 of them mean something, I’ve got a side tattoo for my children, a spider on my left foot for my best friend (who is no longer with us&had the same tattoo in the same spot) and I’ve got a dancing bear on my chest because I’m a dead head!!

Maybe at a conscious level there is no meaning but I think (is only my opinion) that there is a reason (an unconscious one) that you liked and choose those images. Could be fun exploring that, i've done it with pictures I have felt drawn to with no reason apparently and I've discovered interesting things about my self and life story.

If I died tomorrow, I would be glad that I was responsible and reliable. That I tried to help make the world a better place and didn't give into my destructive impulses. The desire to destroy runs so strongly but I maintain control. Yolo but I appreciate my control and I am sure the others do as well.

tattoos don’t need to have meanings. personally most of mine do i think that like 1 or 2 don’t. i got my first tattoo at like 16 now i’m 19 but anyways i’m getting another tattoo in october (my 8th or 9th tattoo i think lmao) and its going to be my most meaningful tattoo and I’m really excited for it. you can just get a tattoo you like not because it has meaning. and technically you can get it removed its just very expensive and painful lol

Mine kinda have a meaning, but it's very personal and not something I explain to anyone. My first one is just a tribal I've designed myself when I was 16 ish and got it when I was 18/19. I just wanted to be sure, I'd like it still. There is literally no meaning but it being my first tattoo 😂 My second one is on my back and probably has the most meaning, but also very personal about my family. The last one is a Moai from the Easter island, pointing to my roots. I'm half Chilean half Swiss living in Switzerland and this is me making a connection to the other half of my roots. Also it looks badass and I think its awesome👌😂 but not every tattoo needs to have some special meaning. Sometimes it just looks really cool and awesome on a person 👍🏼 my brother is almost covered from neck to toes and has like 3 with meaning, including his back piece
