If you guys plan on dipping down into NH , make sure to check out Mt. Washington and the Mt. Washing Valley , along with the Kancamagus Highway . You'll see some beautiful sights .
Scenic Driveways: Yes!! I worked at the Mount Washington Resort for five years. I'm so glad that a group of North Country families saved it from planned destruction, and lead the charge to have it added to the National Register of Historic Places! The Mount Wash is such a fine example of a grander, more genteel time in America. And the Kanc is a breathtakingly beautiful drive -- especially in autumn.
Very tru living there breathtaking views & friendly
Visited Arcadia and Bar Harbor two years ago the week before Memorial Day. Avoided the crowds and the insects apparently. No need for bug spray. Beautiful!
We lived and raised our family (for 25 years) in Northern New Hampshire, and spent every summer at Blackwoods Campground and Acadia National Park. Precious memories of God's beautiful country!
Such a nice vibe this video. Very relaxing. Thank you for posting!
Acadia and Portland are fabulous! You missed touring the islands of Casco Bay! Take a ferry tour, or just get a ticket to one of the islands and get off and explore. Black flies are generally bothersome in early summer, and mosquitos are not bad on the coast. They don’t like ocean breezes. Beware of browntail moth, however. Most folks will have an allergic reaction (similar to poison ivy) to the caterpillars, whose skins take 4 years to break down. It is a big enough problem that folks put up signs in areas where they have infested.
NICE VAN RV, SMALL BUT HAS IT ALL IN THERE, JUST PERFECT
Maine -- my favorite place in the world. I could have watched for an hour. Best time to travel in Maine, in my opinion, is early October. Beautiful color, and you avoid some of those pests! Good thing you had your repellent and gear.
Yess!!!!!! Van life!!!!!!!!the best episode ever!!!!!
We’re staying at Blackwoods in a couple weeks. Our third visit to Acadia. We love the place.Tea at Jordan Pond House is not to be missed! Lobster stew and popovers.....mmmmmmm can’t wait!
Cathy Smallwood ...and don't forget a Harbor Bar when you're craving and ice cream snack.
We were there early last September for 8 days before heading to Nova Scotia and then back again for 4 days at the end of Sept early Oct. NO BUGS! We stayed at the same place. Next time go to Jordon Pond Ice Cream (actually in Bar Harbor) for the best ice cream ever! Got soaking wet at Thunder Hole with 56 degree water! We love Maine and think it's the most beautiful state on the East coast.
Great video! One of my favorite states! We will be there all of August and the first 2 weeks of September staying a week in the Southern part, 3 weeks near Acadia and 2 weeks in the northern. My grandfather had a summer place in the Northeastern part which was so much fun when I was a kid and and I can’t wait to get back there.
Sunrise on Cadillac mountain is a must do, followed by blueberry pancakes at Jordan’s Breakfast.
Watch the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain and it makes you feel lucky to be alive. Such a beautiful area. We unfortunately missed out on the Thunder Hole experience but Im sure I will go back one day!
Living here, in Biddeford Maine, I get access to do much of what this State has to offer year round...! Come an enjoy...!...!
We stayed at Narrows last summer. Great location close to Acadia
You’re theme song sounds like this old house theme. Thanks for the great videos
Makes me miss home. I was 1hr from Acadia nat park. Good memories there
We are just planning a road trip to Maine. Thanks for showing us around. Those are some great tips for the bugs! My youngest has an allergy to several flying insects so we'll need to take all the precautions.
Take your trip! I live in NH, and Maine is beautiful
We just spent 5 months in Maine and 1 month was just around Acadia. Pick a place that has the free trolly service. It's so worth it.
Aw! I’m north of Portland, but from the Ellsworth area. You drove on by! (Technically RVs are not allowed on top of Cadillac. Just for other viewers with larger rigs. We also went up in our 19 1/2 foot Roadtrek and we weren’t told to leave...but as summer approaches they aren’t as lenient sometimes.)
Doing an east coast road trip in June, can’t wait to visit this park!
Welcome to Maine. I hope you are enjoying your stay here.
Great video...My wife and I love Acadia and have been there a few times. Looks like you had a blast!
I love this and love the amazing views, now Acadia is now on my list
We really enjoyed the Rangeley Lakes area of Maine in the White Mountains. We spent a week in a campground there in out travel trailer before we moved on to Bar Harbor/Mount Desert Island. This gave us two very different flavors of Maine. We had come through the Adirondacks, across Lake Champlain via ferry, Vermont, New Hampshire. That was a very interesting and rewarding trip. We also enjoyed driving along the coast of Maine stopping at some of the innumerable little white lobster shacks. We found out the purchasing what they called Lobster Roll gave us the Lobster meat without all of the work of digging it out of the shell. That was a great, memorable trip. It was fun to remember it while watching you enjoy yours. After my wife passed away, these are precious memories!! Thanks for sparking this memory!
W Carl Hepker I actually know 2 people that WONT eat shrimps (in shell), also won’t eat lobsters, as it is too much WORK ! I just laugh, as We eat both, we buy lobsters at least 6 times a year, and cook them myself , stay well.
Great to see someone traveling the east coast!! Wish more people blogging would show more of the eastern USA.
IKR
I'm about to myself! Leaving tonight!
Homesick and Westbound how’s it going one year in still going I hope?
Maine ... one of my favourite places to visit in the spring, summer and fall ... although fall is probably my favourite time. The colours are magnificent!!! But there is also a lot of traffic along Route 1 as well ... sometimes brutal. But so worth it because you're never in a hurray anyway. Just too much to see and do. I've been to Acadia National Park on several occasions as well. Bar Harbour also. One of my favourite places is Machias where I get the absolute BEST blueberry pie in the world. That's right ... Helen's Restaurant!! Yummy!!! The donuts looked interesting and definitely very yummy. Don't know how you could stop at just one. LOL
I love Kait's bug shirt. Something I will have to look into I think for my trip to Alaska and perhaps even Newfoundland. I generally have been very lucky with bugs and miss them most of the time.
Thanks guys for taking us along for the trip, beautiful!
Being New Hampshire natives, my wife and i go to Bar Harbor and Acadia once a year. Route 1 is a great ride! The rest of Maine is beautiful as well. I am not a drinker at all, but Atlantic brewing has an incredible bottled root beer....lol
Glad you enjoyed your trip to Maine. You picked a great way to get to Acadia, and you could have seen so much more on the way. Maybe a great reason for a return trip later on, right? Enjoy your videos and great photography.
Thanks for a wonderful video! We lived in N. Windham and just loved it in Maine. Thanks for making me miss it that much more.
love your videos,,,and thankyou for sharing everything you can,,I realy enjoy
what you film,,you guys rock! keep doing what your doing. Im a future class B traveler when I retire in a couple years and your videos has shown me alot,,,thankyou!
Man that was some beautiful scenery!
Having been born in Kittery and spending all of my childhood summers traipsing around Bangor & Bar Harbor (my family had a camp on Sebec Lake) you've brought back many pleasant memories right down the story my Grandmother used to tell me of when she was a young lass (somewhere around 1915-1920) she served the Rockefellers on the lawn one fine afternoon at the Jordan Pond House. I hope I can go back someday to revisit my birth state!
Two months from now is the state of Maine’s Lobster festival in Rockford. Put the event on your calendar for your next visit.
Rockland
Wow, wow and wow! Ive only been the the southern tip of Maine, next time we're out visiting family in New Hampshire we have to go there!!
Acadia National Park is amazing, being from Maine I always go after tourist season. Thank you for sharing I just Subscribed
i went to the holy donut in Portland... was so good! i have a big road trip next year and i was going to go straight home after visiting Niagara, but this video inspired me to add some more time to my trip
We just spent 5 months in Maine and 1 month was just around Acadia. Pick a place that has the free trolly service. It's so worth it.
Great to see you guys exploring a place I know and love. Definitely come back very early fall some year. No/less bugs, a little cool at night and early Sept should be less people.
Much enjoyed... Love Maine
"Spudnuts" was a franchise popular when I was a kid in the 1950's, donuts made with potato flour. They had one in Pipestone, Minnesota, my dad's hometown and when we traveled to visit gramma we always bought a dozen for the trip back home. They were the best!
Great video on Maine.. I did a bike ride up the coast to Portland..Plum Island to Peaks Island... took a ferry to Peaks Island.. The views are phenomenal... looks I just missed you guys.. I was there late June...Thanks for sharing..
Loved this video. So close to my home in New Hampshire. We have been to Acadia many times.
Beautiful park!! I'm so jealous!!! Safe travels!!!!
MDI is my favorite place in the northeast! I love acadia❤️
Love going to Maine. Especially buzzing down to Kennebunkport, the light house on Cape Elizabeth and a trip to Main just isn't complete without a stop to Freeport to check out L.L. Bean. Haven't been to Acadia yet but that is on my list of trips to take with my wife. Glad to see you are making it up to the Northeast. Love the videos.
we have been visiting Acadia national park and Mount desert Island for more than 15 years, many times a year! This is our second home away from home! We know the Island inside out! We travel from Quebec Canada and it takes us 7-8 hrs to get there, but this is the closest road to get to the ocean from here! It would take us 12 hrs to drive to the Canadian Maritimes.
oh and by teh way, we have been going for years and have not encountered the bug problems you are talking about... maybe it depends on the period. We always go down in August.
we were just there! And Scratch Bakery is amazing! ANP is beautiful!
Fabulous tour! I have the unique pleasure of living on MDI.... it is the jewel of Maine! Plan to stay at least a week... I have lived here for 19 years and still have not seen everything. The woods are where the bugs are, especially if there is no breeze. Also, wearing dark colors attracts them and bright colors (think flowers) can also attract the stinging ones - bees, etc. People ask the silliest things like "when do the deer turn into moose"! and "is it a law that the boats all have to face the same way?" Really???? Duh!
Wish we had known you were coming to Maine. We would have liked to hook up and show you the best places to go in Acadia and elsewhere in Maine. Your vids are inspiring and instructional. Thanks for all you guys do!
Great video!!! Loved this style of travel video. Keep them coming!
The sunset is so beautiful!
I took vitamin B 12 for 4-6 weeks before we traveled to sweden. It helped me a lot with the Moskitos.
B Vitamins are excreted in sweat and the pests don't like the smell. They are effective.
Great video! I just returned from a road trip up the Maine coast to Acadia and it is indeed beautiful!
Another excellent video, thank you both for the sharing the beautiful views.
Thanks for sharing. My hubs and I are heading that way in a few months and all of those places are on our itinerary...including Holy Donut. :-) I'm glad you alerted us to the bug situation.
I have been to Portland Maine very nice place. Maine has more light houses than any other state.
CHECK YOUR BELLY BUTTON AT NIGHT?!?!? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣OMG!!!!!! LOL!!!! I’ve never heard of that! 🤣🤣🤣 Beautiful video! So very nice!
Always wanted to visit Maine! Thank you for letting me share your experience. Maybe someday I'll get there myself.
Just added Maine to the list!!!
I'm so glad you pointed out the bug issue! Why was it different at the RV resort though?
Beautiful. Thank you. Saved and shared.
Great video. Was there last year and I had just as great of time.
👍🏻love this . Acadia is on my bucket list
Lol I love how happy Kait looked about the bread.
Great Video. Thank you for posting. This was informative and helpful.
Awesome video guys! Looks like we ended up hitting up most of the same places after all. :) Such a fun national park, have a good one and thanks for sharing the adventure! - Shane
Just accepted a job in Bar Harbor. Going to spend the next 6 months in Maine and get paid well to do it.
Awesome video. Thank you for the travel tips :)
Nice to see u guys came up into Canada 🇨🇦
The big hats come handy. To my surprise, the 99cent store had them, too. Now iam ready
Great video, too
Looks like you guys really enjoy yourselves... Here in Vermont the " Flying Teeth " can be problematic at different times of the day as well... They love to latch on, apply their magic formula around the wound so as to go undetected & before you know it, a nasty red welt! I live 3 hrs. due west of Portland & look forward to this road trip up the coast & eventually the $35.00 entry fee to Desert Island... The crowds may be the determining factor on how much I will be able enjoy it... Very well presented video, thank you...
Bill Farr @ WGF Studio53... :-)
It's a great place and a great ride (in the summer)!
This is so much fun! I just wanted to mention that on a boat forum I visit, someone recommended a battery-powered little gadget called Bite Away. I uses gentle heat to remove the histamine from a mosquito bite. I haven't used it, but am going to try it. They had an Amazon link. I liked that it was portable, for hikes.
Been there 3 times. Trying to go for a 4th time. Absolutely love it there.👍😉🙂🤗🙃🙏👌😊😀😄😀😁
Hey follks, come to the white mountains of New Hampshire . We’ll show you around
Mark Secord, Where in the Whites?
Hello Russos!
I'm new here, just want to thank you for making these videos I'm considering becoming a full time camper myself in the not so distant future!
OMG...that bread! Looked so good! You guys are awesome.
Lovely video and great sunset in action capture. Yum for those baked goods and lobster.
Rimona Gale:..Lob-sta! :D
I’m going to have to get me one of those bug outfits! Bugs love me too
Use to live about an hour north of Bar Harbor on Beals Island.
You're probably long gone by the time you posted this, but I saw a black Promaster in Ellsworth today and I thought it might be a Hymer and I thought of you guys too! Come in Sept/Oct to avoid the bugs.
Great video! Try to come back in September - no bugs and all the colors!
I think I picked the perect time. Was at Acadia in September this year and got through NH, Vermont and NY at the perfect time for the colour change.
Awesome video! Subscribed!
I really want a love button for this video. I live in Northeast Connecticut. Acadia NP is on my to do list. I can't wait to get there. Thanks so much for sharing. Safe travels. Definitely going to try a Holey Donut too!
Well done!
Thanks for sharing.. great stuff
Scratch Bakery is the best and we love Willard Beach! We’ve been to all the places you went. Will be returning in August but I’m gonna get me one of those bug shirts Kait was wearing! If you have a link of where to purchase it, can you link it please?
Best video yet...
We have spuds doughnuts where we live in Richland, Washington, yummy. We love Maine too. Keep on having fun..
I'm officially becoming a patreon. If I knew you were gonna be in Maine, I would have loved to try to meet you guys!!! I live in Maine and not far from Acadia!!
Nomadic Fanatic, Long Long Honeymoon, and We're the Russos have all done "Maine" episodes that passed right by my house. :-D
Have not been to Maine yet but we have it in our travel plans.
Thx for the info .
Cheers Toz
When were you there? I just got back from there! (as to the bug season late May-early June, you handled it great) NEXT TIME go to Wonderland / Schooner Bay the tip of the West side and The Valley Trail which is off the Beach Mountain trails head. Sand Beach has a back entrance through a woods path passing a fern glade that is amazing. On the East side, the Hadlock (upper and lower) Pond trails are like a museum of coastal New England 1000 years ago. Every hole in the mossy roots is, or was, a habitat. Outside the Park the Land and Garden Trust runs Asticu Garden and Thuya garden and terraces as well as the whole Little Long Pond area, the tip of the Eastern side (only if you like moss carpeted woods that look magical) ps Bar Harbor is not a beach town. It's a leisure boating tourist town with the fish and lobster men having moved elsewhere. 70% of it closes in Winta and residents are then just Mainers. Attached to Atlantic brewing you didn't mention Mainly Meat...try the 1/2 chicken it's to die for. There are 3 or 4 Great lobster pound/restaurants on the island that operated outside serving from the beginning, one is on the wooded banks of Sommes Sound) bealsablesundernewmanagementthurstons ps.. You don't need to capitalize "granite mountain". best bumper sticker I saw in Maine this year, saw quite a few, was "by by susan" which is witty win or loose.
ps I forgot to mention Sears Port on the way up rt 1, just before the Park. The flee market capital of Maine. I understand some people hate flee markets, but Maine specializes in them, they are interesting, if just to photograph
OMG that looks so good guys I love bread too and my God that looks so delicious makes my mouth water Maine is beautiful
I LOVE Maine...I am from Massachusetts living in Virginia...go Maine Lobstahs!!
Wow your in Maine? We're heading over to the coast this weekend! Are you going to have a New England meet up? It would be great to meet!
-Jon in NH
you have to experience Cabbage Island lobster and clam bake. The ride on the ferry is as great as the real lobster bake done in traditional Maine style🐬
Thanks for showing us Maine! Also, I don't know if anyone has mentioned this to you already, but great job on the video. Usually takes a whole camera crew to do what you just did. Professionally done! =)
