The problem with these 1 or 2 year warranties is that it doesn't cover the damage from updates to the firmware that can brick it after the warranty expires. An update killed my Xbox one past its warranty and Microsoft did nothing even though it's their fault. They should have a hardware warranty for 1 year at least than a lifetime firmware warranty if it's damaged from updates.
This makes me want to ask: What is the best strategy for buying an amp? new tube, new digital modeling, used tube, used digital modeling? This video makes me very leary of the life of these 'gadget' amps and updates. Now, I'm really interested in the the Spark 2.0, which is super feature rich, but what good is it if it dies after warranty and a firmware update? I ask this seriously because I'm in the market, and I want to know real-world experiences vs. just the show and tell 'new' YT demonstration videos. I can't bring myself to consider the Boss Katana Air Ex because of price. I'd rather lose $300 vs. $500 if one of these goes belly up.
I had an issue with a Spark 40. I installed a firmware update, restarted it and it worked fine. The very next time I turned it on - no sound. I contacted customer service and their solution was to reinstall the firmware - repeatedly - until things started to work. I messed with it for over an hour before it magically started working but there was that concern that it could happen at any time and I just didn’t want to deal with something unreliable so it became a paperweight. I ended up selling it to a sketch music instrument pawn shop just to get some money out of it If I had been within the 30 day trial period I would have returned it. I won’t buy another Positive Grid product ever again
In Australia they would have had to replace the amp by law at 2 years old if it was for private use. Manufacturers warranty goes for whatever a reasonable time is that a product should last. So if a similar product of that type and quality normally last 5 years - they have to provide a warranty of 5 years no matter what they specify themselves as the warranty period. If a company offers an extended warranty plan - You don't have to pay for it as you automatically get that extended warranty cover as by offering it the company has admitted the product should last that long. This only applies to consumer use and not business use. So if a working musician used an amp to gig - They only get the warranty specified by the manufacturer. It seems Positive Grid are doing the right thing even in countries with poor consumer protection like the US.
Positive Grid (Spark) replaced my Spark CAB and paid for shipping, both ways, after my baby Pitbull broke the XLR connector. Thank you Positive Grid for your most excellent Customer Service ❤ My Positive Grid experience, in every regard, has been very, very good. I do not have a UA-cam Channel. I’m just an average Customer.
This is honestly why I avoid modelling gear unless it's super dirt cheap. I know if an old tube or solid state amp problems and you take care of them they can be fixed and will outlast me as long as there's tubes and transistors available. When something digital breaks it's no different than a phone, it's just junk, and can fail randomly at any time. My buddy had a brand new headrush die on him after 8 months for no reason. Luckily the store was cool and gave him his money back
"We need to check your file" - he makes videos containing our products. Shame people selling "spares/repairs" ones, just after warranty, didn't get same level of customer service 🤣
I had an issue with connecting to Bluetooth not realizing I had left my phones Bluetooth on and was trying to connect to my tablet came up error once my phone was off it worked fine
I'm surprised they didn't allow you to upgrade to the Spark 2, with that, they're probably happy to offload some of the 4os! Still, excellent customer service!
Positive Grid is a piece of shit company. I kept seeing some update but never installed. After installing my update the amp became intermittent. It would start stuttering and just cut out while playing. They sent me the address of a third party repair company. The unit was literally just a month out of warranty. I'm sure these updates are timed with the expiration of the warranty. They have a serious problem.
They seem to me like a reliable company that is truly trying their best, BUT ... I also had to wait a while for their customer service to respond. I would say they want to work on being a bit more responsive in a timely manner, especially when opening a new support case, perhaps they need a bit more staffing. But overall, I like this company a lot.
They're shit. Mine turns off after a minute. Goes silent but stays lit as it's still operating. All different cables and about 20 different guitars . Doesn't matter what. Contacted positively shit and they said it's out of warranty.... No, Lets help or diagnose it,just it's out of warranty would you like to upgrade to new model?💩💩💩
The question is, did they do it because you have a channel? What if you were a "normal" customer?
I addressed this in the video. Really not sure. I don’t think so because I offered to collab and they pointed me in the AR direction
I'm a normal customer who was offered the opportunity to pay for my repair, which I haven't done, as it was like half the cost of a new amp.

You only got a replacement because you have 23k subs. When my Spark died IN WARRANTY they told me to go pound sand.

EU the same. 1 year of warranty suits to how the USA treats it’s own people ;)

My amp strap deteriorated on my spark just sitting on the shelf and they told me buy a new one. Glad you got a new amp though.
I've got a new amp too after my old one had some issues with the power supply cable. Just a couple of weeks ago.
I had an issue with connecting to Bluetooth not realizing I had left my phones Bluetooth on and was trying to connect to my tablet came up error once my phone was off it worked fine
Thx, now i know what amp i will never own
